View Full Version : What's the GOOFIEST thing you've ever done to your RC?

AEAddict

Whats the zaniest add-ons, wheels, tires, bodies, jumps, duct tape, extra parts, extra stuff that you've ever put on or done to your rc vehicle(s) ?

Personally.. my craziest one was... I got really sick of raking leaves in my backyard... so I duct taped the handle of the rake to the roof of my RC10-T3. Then I drug the rake behind the T3 to get up all the leaves. Actually worked pretty well... took about a 1/3rd of the time to do it too. It was awesome.

hehe

Now, tell me yours! or show pictures if you wish!

puttin a Brushless in my rustler and went to a 15-20 foot pile of dirt, then I carved it with a shuvle (sp) so it had kick. Then launched my truck off it to see how far it would go went to far then smoked the side of a house and totaled the rustler:(

the wierdest add ons for me were, a dirt bike rack and a blower. i made a little rack to fit in the back of my truck for those little finger dirt bikes. then the blower came off a radio shack truck and i just screwed it on. thats all i can think of right now but im sure that theres way more. ill post them when i think of them.

dont slow down
03-01-2002, 04:00 PM
oh i remembered one. i was really bored so i descided to make a drag chute for my truck. you know the ones that the dragsters have to slow them down. well i couldnt get it to work so i pulled it off and attached the string to the a arms and threw it off the roof thinking it would float down as gentle as a feather. well it didnt work as planned and i broke the rear hub carriers. i guess i deserved it.

The stupidest thing I ever did, was run one of my cars when my Rottie was loose. Needless to say, after about a 2 min attack on my car, there was nothing left to repair. LMAO!!!! He will destroy anything that moves.... HAHA!

I made the ultimate ricer. I had a tc3 with a skyline body on it, then I put on a airplane for a rear wing (wing was off a .40 trainer I think). Then I put on a chrome lookin tip thing thats about 2 inch in diameter, and got all the stickers on it, it was funny. Car had a bad motor in it so it went slow as h e double hockey sticks like real ricers. *Note* I did this for the fun of it, I dont have anything really against ricers.

The dumbest thing I've done to my E-Maxx was while my friend and I were mudbogging our R/C's in a five inch deep mud/slop puddle in my backyard. When his radioshack Izuzu Amigo got submerged I got a little throtle happy and drove over it. The mud was a little deeper on the on the other side, and needless to say, It got submerged over its wheels. I hit the throttle instinctively and as it started to get out, it took off uncontrollably in second gear, no steering, brakes or anything straight into a tree. Its front end took a chunk out of the tree and the glued tire came straight off the rim, almost hitting my friend. The only damage, an unglued tire, cracked body and a wobbly bumper after letting the ESC dry off! That also explains my name....:D

Heheheh! You guys are hilarious...

Ever done something TO your car? Like a doofy modification like I did?

I've also put 1/10th scale BUGGY WHEELS on my T3 (all four corners were the THIN front buggy wheels) .. it was SOO FUNNY.. it'd spin the tires right off the rims..

When I was bashing my E-Maxx over some rather large rocks backwards, my steel turnbuckle met a rock and snapped right next to the chassis. Using my way of fixing things, (after driving around for awhile with 3-wheel steering) I just duct taped the turnbuckle to the back of the lower A-Arm and kept on driving for a few more packs. Later, being as stingy as I am, I JB-Welded the part back together and that worked mor a month or so...
I also added nerf bars to the side using brushed aluminum U-Shaped cabinet handles held on with 20lbs per square inch double sided tape. Works fine!:D

I use a program like Paint Shop Pro, or Photoshop 6.0 to make my pictures smaller. I also have a program from Sony called
"Picture Gear 4.1 Lite" it's awesome.. a QUICK way to take a picture, view it, and make "minor" adjustments to it. (clarity, brightness/contrast, sharpness, etc)

Just use a program like one of those... If you have ICQ.. I could "send you some goods" .. but only if U have a highspeed internet connection...

Umm.. and then just click "attach file" down below this box for "typing in your reply" .. to add them to your post..

First of all, NICE car and SWEET paint!! Now, i have Printmaster Platinum 11, The Photo Shop, and the like. Will they work?? And what do you mean by "make them smaller"? Click a corner and make it a little box?? :p Can you tell I'm new at this??

Thanks!

I'll try to help.

Go open up an image... once its on your screen, within your "editing software" they're will be a "resize" "change size" "edit size" etc somewhere within the top "task bar"

click on your "image resizer" up there.. and click the "custom" one.. now make it a bit smaller than the one you have.. like 20-40% smaller. Save it as a different file name, and then check to see how many Kilobytes it is in size by RIGHT clicking on it within the "my computer---> folders---> your picture"

I hope that helps! Sorry.. it's REALLY HARD to describe how do this over the net!

I agree. Here are a FEW things I can think of:

-drove my Outrage full speed under a parked car and got it wedged in there and had to push it out.

-chased people, moving cars, bikes, ect with RC's

-hit my dog a few times

-driven over coals and fire

-hit my toe at around 30 with a Tamiya car and sprained it

-tried to see how far I could drive across the schools lawn with my Tamiya car

-jumped my Tamiya car and my friends Tl01

-put 2.2 tires on the Tamiya car

-small buggy tires on front of my Evader

-accidently my Tamiya car slid into water and drenched my FM JR XR3 reciever.

-hit half of the jump as to roll my truck on purpose

-DEMOLITION DERBY! I won because it was against a crap rc like from walmart and broke his front wheel off

I'm sure there is a LOT more, but this is enough for now.

Oh, ya 2 foot aluminum chassis made from a streetsign, too bad I needed the aluminum for something else and had to cut it up before ever using it.

Yesterday I was jumping my Nitro Rustler and my friend who was just meeting the truck for the first time told me to try and hit him. I went for him when he was standing on the jump. He spread his legs because he thought It would go right under him.I tured right before hitting him tricking him into falling into a gymnast's split(AKA 180 degree angle). He is now afraid of the truck and wants one for himself. ;)

Not me, I still have it.

I also remember one time it was raining and I couldn't drive my buggy. Also my mom kept asking me to put my luandry away. So I thought, why not just tow it away? So I tied a Xerox box lid to my buggy with string and loaded some clothes in it. As it turns out, it would only tow a couple of pairs of socks (leave me alone, it was a sotkc Traxxas Bandit with 1500 batts).

I put a ramp on my roof, and i ran my nitro rush down the incline, into the ramp at full throttle and jumped onto my neighbors roof.. Car still ran..lol.. the roofs are only about 12 ft apart though.

Another time i tryed making a ramp to jump a creek and it missed and my car went down the creek i didnt even bother trying to run and get it, too fast flowing and it was far away by then.

Finally my car is alot faster than the speed limit on street so i tried going behind a truck doing down the street and go between the tires

I actually did it without hitting the truck..
I do this things because whats the point in having an RC vehicle if your not going to have some fun with it?

Dummest thing I ever did:

My first nitro gar was an old Kyosho GP Spider MkII with the dinky .10 engine. I was washing clothes one night and I had the car out. Running circles in the parking lot, I forgot to fully extend the radio antenna on my AM (nobody told me!) radio. The car shot forward like a bullet. I figure the worst that could happen was I crack the front bumper when it hits the curb it's screaming toward. Instead, the car bounces off the rubber bumper I just installed, rocketed 10 feet into the air, bounces off the trunk of someone's Cadillac, setting off the alarm, and lands upside down Total damage: bent cylinder head and cracked fuel tank. Too bad it got stolen...

I've got to remember not to run this thing in traffic.

I just finished rebuilding an old D2 motor and I figured why not see just how fast it will move the car. So I advanced the timing as far as I could, soldered in all my connections, made the car look nice and neat after about 2 hours.

Took my new XXX-S outside with fresh 2400s. The car shot forward, veered right and smashed into the left wheel of my Saturn. There went the spindle carrier and my servo saver. Less than 2 seconds of testing and it's back to the hobby shop.

Oh yeah, when I first got my OB4, I was so stoked that I could get the same rims I wanted on my real car, So I bought some Twisted Tuners and some HPI tires. Having never assembled tires before, they were a mess. They balloned off in the muddle of the street, smacking the curb, cracking the rim and letting the tire roll down the street, shile the foam was stuck on the rim. Too bad that one got stolen along with the GP Spider. Ah, Memories...

Oh, and if I do catch some kid with either one of them (I know my paint jobs), I will jump out and lay the smack down on sight!

I feel like reviving this thread, so why not.

I jumped my Rustler off a 30 foot tall park roof, TWICE. First time onto concrete, second to dirt.

AEAddict was there to witness it. And it cost less than 20 bucks to do. Bent shock shaft, cracked tranny/motor case which I also dented!!! Plus a cracked shock tower. I think that was it.

I love having a cheap RC, too bad I haven't run it in over a year, and sold my batts to AE for his starter box. Would anyone want to buy a pretty chewed up rustler with a bunch of pinions & spurs, losi springs, TORN UP BODY held togeter with tekin stickers, and an 80 dollar Tekin Rebel speed control? With my first Nitro truck (USED), T-Maxx

I first ran it with TOWER fuel (airplane) and melted the engine.

I had 4 wheels and 3 tires, I had more stunts then than now. Top time on the two side wheels then 2.5 seconds It was hard to stay up there but it was fun. Also hard to say straight

My buggy.

I raced it with full sized cars in the streets. Someone was getting mad and triwed to run em over. I had more acceloration than him, luckly. no Damage, other than the fear in my eyes.

i hit a speed bump at full throttle. 15 feet jump straight then landed in a bed of leaves. nothing broken:)

Two days ago, I went up to a building near me where there is a gravel parking-lot extension. At the end of the gravel, it is piled up a little to make the perfect ramp that I could not resist! So I jumped my electric stampede off of it a few times. After the gravel, there is a down slope of the land that is covered with grass. So I would jump my pede a few feet in the air, but when it came down, it had to land on down sloping land, so it has a few extra feet that it has to fall before touching down (compared to jumping it onto a level surface). You know what I am trying to say. Anyway, after about ten jumps, I jumped it at near full speed and I will not lie and say that I got ten feet of air or something, but I got quite a bit. Then when it landed, the whole rear assembly just broke right off (from the rear shock tower back). The motor wires pulled the esc one way and the receiver and on/off switch wires pulled it the other way, and the bottom of the esc was taped to the rpm esc mount, so the bottom of the casing was ripped off. I don't know if anything else is damaged on the esc. The motor wires were the plug ones that require no soldering, so they gave a little and none of the wires were ripped off the speed controller. I do not consider myself to be one that abuses my RCs, but that day I think that I took it a little too far. Here is a pic that I drew to try to show what the jumping area looked like:

One time I brought my T3 (seems to be lotsa stories about em, eh?!) over to my freinds house. There was abou 10 people over and we were all sitting around the fire, I pulled out my T3 and everyone was of course egging me on to jump the fire pit. Of course I cracked under the pressure  And we set up this little piece of ply wood beside the fire. The first run I just came up and cleared it easy, then I had to try it again  Well it wasnt pretty, the grass was sorta tall for my step-pins, and the truck didnt track perfectly straight. I hit the ramp slow and on the side. the truck FELL IN THE FIRE! Man that was freaky! I got it out though so fast I couldnt even belive it. Nothing was harmed though, just a warmed corner of my cruddy body :p

It took about half an hour for everyone to stop laughing though. Not the smartest thing to do, eh?

Ok, since it's funny story time, let me explain to you the first week of my T-Maxx's life. My wife really doesn't find this story nearly as amusing as I do for some reason.

I think her exact words were, "You mean to tell me you just spent $700 (I'm Canadian) on this *%#$%&^ truck and you broke it again. What the (*&^ are you doing?"

Women for the most part just don't appreciate the joys of doing stuff that your dad wouldn't let you. God forbid I ever have kids. I'll cost myself a fortune.

Anyway, on with the story:
Hour 1- Gentle break in. I'm prepared to break plastic but don't want to blow up the engine through stupidity.
Hour 2 - Tuning. Ok, this thing is now screaming and I'm happy than a proverbial pig in ....
Hour 2.5 - Living in a brand new neighbourhood, there's all kinds of construction materials so my nephews and I build a ramp.
Hour 3 - The ramp is now a nice 8 foot sheet of plywood up to 3 feet.
Hour 3.25 - Broken rear body mounts. Zip tie the Ezstart plug in place.
Hour 3.5 - Broken rear shock tower. Zip tie some more.
Hour 4 - Wide open into a parked truck on the street. Don't stand with your back to a parked vehicle with your rc coming straight at you. By the time you turn around as it passes you, WHAM. Upper and lower a-arms, front shock tower.
Done for the day, lhs closed.

Day 2 - truck back together. Don't remember the total cost. Coincidence? I think not. Intentional blank so I can honestly tell my wife I can't remember. That's an amazing skill.
Took the truck to a local dirtbike track. Was doing ok until I decided to try for this big mound that isn't really part of the track. Stood on top of this 5 foot mound of dirt and launched the truck past myself. Learned a VERY important lesson.... Let off the throttle at the lip. Upside down, landed on the lid (from about 7 feet), broken rear tower, separated the shocks on one side, BENT the motor mount, stripped the spur gear.

Day 7 (approx) - had to actually go to work so didn't do anything stupid. I can't imagine the trouble we'd all get in if we didn't work or go to school.
Had the truck fixed but hadn't realized at this point the mount was bent and weak. Buddy's kid did another loop de loop and landed on the lid. This time the motor mount BROKE. Done for the day.

Ok, so that's the DUMB stuff. Now the goofy stuff?
My buddy and I both rigged plows for the front of our T-Maxx's. We get together occasionally (he's in a different city) and clear the neighbour's driveways from the front window.

Hey, you should take your Tmaxx to the Mid Canada offroad track. They have a Maxx Class. I race there Sundays. They have racing Wednesday and Sunday. Come down sometime. The website for it is http://www.geocities.com/midcanadarcautoracing

Hope t osee you there sometime.

Well, I put some chevrons on my T3 and did some jumping. :D

Hey pudder, I'm going to but there is always something that gets in the way. I was going to go last night but had some buddies in from Calgary and went out for dinner.

This weekend I'm going to Countryfest in Dauphin so it's gonna be next Wednesday at the earliest.

I should be there though. I'm fairly certain I'm going to make a fool of myself but everyone has to start somewhere right?

I took a bunch of old spare modified motor parts and wound my own 8x2 motor for my old LXT years ago. It screamed down the first straight away but when I hit that first jump and the tires left the ground,:D KABOOM. smoke out the back and wire all the way out the can and around the gears.:p But man, that motha moved while it lasted.

Darren-Wednesdays are the nights to make a fool of yourself because it is just for fun, no points or anything. Still some people make fools of themselves on Sundays :D The track has some great people there.

That was before there were digital cameras so no I don't have any pics. I would have taken some though if it had been recent. But I've seen the pics on Jeeps site of his blown motor and it looked a lot like that. But more wire came off of mine and the flattened wire that was around his arm, I had that all the way through my drive train, incuding around the top shaft of the Losi tranny.

I attached a digital video camera to my car in a speacially constructed aluminium box mounted to the front of my car.

You can see a pic of it HERE (http://groups.msn.com/teamrascal) and click on the link for Cam Car.

I have a few videos, but i havn't posted them yet. They should be up soon.

its not about glitching what happens if you go out of range thats what this is for it stops the car as soon as it loses radio signal

I haven't had my rustler running to do anything goofy lately, but I did some goofy driving in my real car today. AEAddict was in the passenger seat and couldn't stop laughing. I took it off road & left a HUGE cloud of dust... TWICE. Gravel roads at 35, sliding the back end around. Roundabout going 30 or so & floating it. Also went into a gravel parking lot & did some doughnuts. We drove away, and saw the cloud for a good distance.

1985 Subaru GL Wagon, I love four wheel drive. It can clear ANYTHING it wants to. AE saw how high it sits in the front... I can take it down a pretty steep slope.

This is embarrasing but funny, here goes.

I have a Nitro 21 XTR. It is scary fast and a great jumper. I decided one day to show off the huge air the truck is capable of.

My house is a basement house. On the backside the edge of the roof is only 2 feet off the ground. The front looks like a normal house. It is surrounded by maple trees.

I took a 8 foot piece of plywood and laid it on the roof in back so I could get the truck on the roof. (see where this is going?)

I figured I would hit the plywood, run up the roof, jump the farside of the roof and land in a huge pile of leaves that I had raked into the "landing zone".

Those of you that are familiar with the Schumacher XTR already know it will run 0 to 40 mph in less than 2 seconds stock. I have the three speed in mine and figured to hit second about halfway up the roof and be doing 50 or so at the launch.

D-day. I positioned the truck then backed over to the side of the house where I could see the take off and landing. I hit the ramp at at least 40mph, shifted and went freaking ballistic over the crest of the roof. I guess due to positioning I did'nt notice that the truck left the crest of the roof at a slight angle. I also realized that what goes up does not always come down!

The dang truck hit a maple tree at least 15 feet off the ground and stuck there!

I called a friend at our local cable TV office and he brought his bucket truck over to get the truck down.

Absolutely no damage to anything but the body. I considered a second attempt but decided not to push my luck! Below is a quick sketch.

The only thing I have ever done wierd to my truck was to put B3 buggy wheels on my RC10GT. I was driving it in the street trying to make sure it was all tuned good before the race that night when I decided to do it. When I punched the throttle those tires would spin out for about 50ft. It was so hard to control because it was slipping and sliding all over the street. The tires would balloon out until they were bigger than a 2.2" tire! I tried it again at the track and those little wheels gave me so much more steering!

The worst crash:

I was racing my .21 T-Maxx right after I bought a (what I thought to be good chassis) custom chassis for it. What I didn't know about the chassis is it flexs worse than the old RC10GTs and it is very weak. It was the second to last race of the night and I was doing pretty good for my first time(not counting the second spur gear I stripped that night) until my engine lost power, the tires lost traction, and I didn't have enough time to stop from hitting the table top. So I punched the throttle and the engine died. It flew over the table top and SMACK strait into the boards on the other side that hold the other side of the table top up. I can say my truck went home in 5 peices that night. My chassis was bent up at a 15 degree angle causing a few other parts to break.

New conversion!:D
