I'm looking for Titanium center dogbones. Who sells them? Unlimited Engineering has discontinued them.

Extra Spur Gears for OFNA CNC Center Diff.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Does anyone sell spur gears that fit the CNC center diff from OFNA? It comes with a 62t.

i'm using the hyper7 pro shocks on a JT mugen truck, what springs are you guys using on your dominators for rough tracks with moderate jumps? i ran the black springs on my dom last year and they worked alright, but i never really set anything up, i just drove it. i want to be a little more competitive this year, and want the best setup as far as shocks and fluid etc... most of the other people are using the 9.5 shocks, but they were too expensive and i had good luck with the hyper shocks last year.

thanks for any advice!

How is the dom doing scarab, have you filled the cnc gears up with silcone oil, mine are leaking pretty bad going to try the diff grease instead.

I had my first race at a major event last weekend with my newly built Dom. No track time before hand just best guess on setup and I TQ'ed the first qualifier and ended up 2nd in the A-Main for Unlimited Monster Truck class ( I could have had first place but I lost some time because my transponder fell out in the third lap - grrrrr). I was smoking the competition. Truly, the Dominator Dominated.

Yes, I have noticed that the CNC diffs leak, bad, but I'm just going to keep refilling them. They are nice diffs other than the leak factor. I ran 10K front, 30K center, and 3K rear, but I may tweak those viscosities in the future when I have some warm weather and more time for better testing. Also, those CNC diffs require a breakin period and then a good cleaning to get the metal shavings out. Tolerances are very tight at first so a breakin is necessary.

Here's my Dom before the race (not quite so clean now!). If you want a complete list of everything I bought, tweaked and did to my Dom, I can post it on this thread if you are interested.

The below link is without spaces but this forum won't let you type it together so i had to break it up.

Nope. No proline kit. Not planning on getting one either.

I bought mine used and it had the kit and then saw some unlimited eng stufff added the racer x kit to it and the put on in the center diff with rear brake. Waiting for the local track to reopen we are making it bigger by almost half should be fun,, not as nice as the track you have in the picture.

Hey guys, some awesome pics and info on this thread. so since I can't seem to find my answers anywhere else I'll ask them here. I have a dom hybrid. I modified my rpm shocktowers so that I could get as much suspension out of the a-arms that I could with slightly longer tmaxx shocks. Well I have as much suspension as I think I'm going to get now I'm trying to dial in the shocks. this thing is a tank and with that in mind what shock oil do you guys run? I'm testing out 100wt right now and that seems to be what I will be using. I want my truck to be able to handle large jumps without smashing the chassis everytime. But at the same time when I drop the truck I don't want it to bounce. I want it to stick like it should.

Here are some pics so you guys know what I'm working with. I'll post the modified rpm shocktower pics asap.

And if anyone is wondering what shocks those are they are duratrax maximu mt rear shocks. for 15.99 a set you can't go wrong. I had a set on my tmaxx and while everything else around them was breaking they held up fine.

pro-line bulkheads so that the tmaxx suspension can be used.

Do any of you run a Mach 26? I need to upgrade from the good old Hyper 21. Are there any other engines you would recommend for under $170? (Hyper 8-port, Outlaw 26, XTM 24.7 STD or Race)

Jackyl

Save yourself some money and get some more power. get the 8 port piston/sleeve from say tower or even ebay. and just put that in your existing .21 hyper block, Boom! now you have a 8 port hyper .21 enjoy.

Hey,
Im thinking about getting an Ofna Dominater this summer. Im looking for something very durable and something that I can leave mostly stock to. I have heard bad things about the diffs breaking/stripping and many things about the drive train failing. What are your thoughts on this and do you think a dominater is a good truck for me?

dgrobe2112
04-28-2004, 06:40 PM
depends on what your going to do with it.. it is a racing truck.. i like the way the truck handles.. but i dont like the diffs.. if you wait a while.. ofna is coming out with a new monster truck in the near future..

Jackyl
04-28-2004, 06:43 PM
The dom in stock form I do not like! That is why I have a hybird. But not to mention it is also cheaper to get a dominator hybrid than a JT hybrid.

As for the diffs I have heard both ways. Honestly if you want a truck and you want to keep it stock, get a savage. a dom isn't all that unless you stick alot of money into it and make it a hybrid and then even you still have to get it to take a good beating the suspension needs work to take 8'+ foot jumps without bottoming out.

krisI.925

What is the longeste cup that you can use on the dominator diff's? I need a cup that is longer than the long cups for the ofna diffs that ppl use on their dominators?

I'm after more suspension but I can't seem to keep the cvd in the cup with the suspension that I want to have so I need longer ones.

Someone please help me out.

do i need a 2 speed on my dominator or i really dont need i just bought an old dominator that came with 1 speed ..and can i just use stock tmaxx bulkheads instead of the pricey proline conversion

dgrobe2112
06-08-2004, 02:32 PM
it has been my experience.. that a 2 speed is not worth it. I had the single speed in my truck.. and loved it.. plenty of punch.. and low end grunt.. plus lots of top end. The truck handled great.

You will definilty need the pricey aluminum bulkheads in order to do the conversion. Stock tmaxx bulkheads will not work. the pricey proline conversion consist of everything you need to convert your truck. i had that on my dominator.. and loved it.. made the truck so much better.. but that is only needed if you are gonna race the truck.. if your gonna just bash.. then you dont need all that stuff.. the truck still races good without the proline conversion as well..

badboy2
06-09-2004, 01:47 AM
actually i might race the dominator so i really dont need those to race?i have either mach 26 or force25 for it ..do ineed to change the bulk heads too for the proline conversion or just the four parts where u put the tmaxx arms?

Jackyl
06-09-2004, 04:17 AM
You will either need to buy the pro-line blukheads or take tmaxx bulkheads and drill new holes in the chassis to mount the tmaxx bulkheads, it would be easier to buy the pro-line bulkheads.

If your going to race your dominator, it is night and day difference between the stock dominator setup and the hybrid dominator setup!!!

dgrobe2112
06-09-2004, 08:48 AM
if you do the conversion.. get the proline bulks for the dominator.. also... its not just a couple parts.. you need new turnbuckles.. steering knucks.. i highly reccommend the RPM knuckles for the bigger bearings.. you will need bearings.. wheel hexes.. CVD's.. wheels and tires.. new hinge pins.. i cant think of anything else right now.. but you got a list to get..

badboy2
06-09-2004, 12:56 PM
oh its not just the proline bulks?i have spare maxx arms and mine comes with the maxx tries already ..thanks guys

dgrobe2112
06-09-2004, 02:22 PM
you will need the arms.. all 8.. also.. the steering knuckles.. the bearings.. the CVD's.. basically everything on a Tmaxx from the tmaxx bulkheads out to the wheels.. every thing..

badboy2
07-05-2004, 11:10 AM

Any one running the Ofna 8 port race engine in there Doms? I really like these engines and was wondering if the stock diffs will be OK. The Race engine seems to produce a lot more power everywhere compared to the pull start 8 port. I havent had any problems with the diffs. so far and the 8 port race engines are well priced so it could be a good, cheap option to get the Dom screaming. Another question, could i run a taller clutch gear with the new engine? Like one tooth more? I know the race engine has higher rpm, which will equal a bit more speed, but any improvement would be great. Thanks.

I just finished reading the entire thread. Took me a couple days. After reading the above statement, I couldnt help but laugh, even though the quote made by Jackyl on page 41 is from months ago.

The doms, and any truggy for that matter, especially buggies, are DESIGNED to have the chassis bottom out on jumps. The shocks alone cannot support a large, heavy vehicle. They are designed to cushion the blow as much as possible before the chassis bottoms out. If truggies, buggies, and our MT's did not bottom out, we would be blowing shocks all over the place.

When I am jumping my savage, which often times involves 15ft+ verticals, I rely upon my truck to bottom out.

I dont know the relevance of what I just said, but I couldnt help my self from commenting on such a, well, an obviously un-informed statement.

BTW< the arms and knuckles look good.

Oh and someone said that they need the posts cutting down, i havent cos they act like a rol cage and stop the car from getting badly damaged during high speed rolls.

Looks good i have 2 dom's myself and an gs sut pro that i race keep an eye on your front and rear diffs(stock torsen style)they blow up when theres to much power put thru them(savage diffs with g/h alloy cups fit the dom) use the savage pinion gear as well. They can take alot more power and are a lot less $ than cnc ofna upgrade diffs

I'd say half the cost of ofna's they will also give u a little more top end i run them on both my doms with rb 21w7 and modded picco 26 =wheelies n 45mph it's insane since putting in the sav diffs no problems at all.u should try and find some proline bulks so u can use maxx type arms make the dom into a crazy stable racing machine(HUGE DIFFERENCE) try www.nitrohouse.com they might have some. later

.I`ve started with gettin rid of the .21 lump n have stuck a force 25 in it,,(dont slate the engine that aint wot im after)
plus ive got rid of the single 62odd tooth spur gear n changed it for a single 52 tooth one,out of the twin speed kit.
now ,, its goes like mary hell now, it dont just wheel spin at take off it takes up the drive nicely, it does tend to balloon the tyres at flat out but aint blown any off yet..
Now the Q is
do i have to go down the route of a centre diff?
and whats this about changing diffs? as in the axle ones?
do others fit this model and are they stronger.(ive blown 2 fronts n one rear so far)

Dom has smaller wheels and tires (the wheels are compatible with T-Maxx tires). The spur gear is 62T to compensate for the smaller tires. The MP spur is 66T attached to a solid center spur gear holder. The Dom has a center slipper clutch. The Dom has a different front shock tower and the front shocks are the same as the rears. The MP has shorter front shocks with a shorter front shock tower.

I can't recall any other difference between the two.

its worth every penny.i have it in mine.it stops 10 times better than the front brakes and is needed if you put a center diff in it wich i HIGHLY recomend.

Mini Z . cool truck, how dose it handle high jumps? i was thinking of getting a savage but i like my dominator. i saw some video of savages jumping and really wanted to get one. your idea seems to be the best of both worlds.

That pic is from the RCRacer magazine available monthly here in the UK.

I have seen one of those dominators in person, and boy, they are cool! Aluminium all over it, and a very thick lexan shell, with a .21 Hyper powering all 4 wheels. Very nice, but there's not much info from it.

Remember - It's really an Ofna

just found this forum. i have 1 dominator with a wasp .26 and my son has a monster pirate thats stock for right now . we love our trucks and they are lots of fun for us.

I will be getting my dominator tomorrow. It has a purple head instead of the usual black...what's the difference? It also has a 2 speed but will change it to a center diff.

By the way, how do you guys overcome the problem with the rear shocks compressing all the way before the rear of the chassis bottoms out?

Wow its been ages since I've been in here. The Dom seems to be on life support these days. Still have mine although I'm thinking of selling it.

The DOM was released when the king of monsters was the TMAXX where bashing is the key to success. Now that truggies are on the spotlight, the DOM is just being seen as a true race bred monster for the track. Some even prefer it over the SUT

Noticed a big problem with the DOM. The steering knuckes hit the upper arms if the suspension is fully compressed adding stress on it and probably breaking it. I had to grind mine so it doesn't hit it.

Go the Dom. Its such a good truck. Once you get the lock tite through it, some cvds in the rear, there just great. Ive had mine for years and still flog it every week. I have a vid. i filmed of it about 2 months ago doing some decent jumps and this is an old truck which has seen a heap of use and abuse but just keeps on performing. There are quite a few truggys coming on to the market now and the dom still holds its own.

P.S Im sure someone will ask for the vid so send me your e-mail and ill send it.

I run mine on a regular basis. At least once a week. I was actually launching it over some nice sized rock piles this past weekend and it is still going strong with a Mach.26 in it.

Sure man. I love my Dom. I just gave the truck an overhaul. Totaly tore it down, cleaned everything with simple green. Rebuilt the diffs with 5k wt oil all around and plopped the mach .26 back in. I'm hoping to run a few tanks through it this weekend. How do you have your dom set up?

3rcman
08-04-2006, 04:13 AM
well it has an hyper 21 8 port, with the 13t vented clutch bell, stong clutch spring,2mm x 2 holes in the shoes, stock nikey tires, solid center diff with 25 thousand in the diffs,30 in the shocks...it rips around pretty good...no catwalks but jumps smooth and can hold its own on a bmx track with a mgt 4.6...only if i had a 2 speed it would never catch me...stong durable trucks...

Questions For Anyone outhere

I have had my Dominator since 03 and I really haven't used it much. Today I finally took it out and Re-Broke in the engine, ran a couple of tanks through to get it back to where it should be and then I got to really open it up. But Stupid me forgot to check all of the countersunk screws on the chassis and after about 3 tanks of hard running the screw that holds the lower portion of the servo saver to the chassis ejected and the truck went into a half speed full right hand tuern into a fence. The suspension arms are bent alittle and the upper plate is tweaked. I went through a few pages of this Thread but it got me nowhere fast. Has any one else had a problem like this??? I would really like to fix my truck and get it going like the bat outta he double toothpicks it is. Also I seem to only have rear wheel drive the truck has run like this for a couple of days now and I would like to know if any one has a good baseline for me to setup the diffs so I have 4wd like it's supposed to. The truck screams and I love it, it needs new rims though cuz the stock white Three spokes are kinda chewed. Any ideas on some good looking rims that'll fit???? The stock setup for the RTR was not what I expected for so much money. I had hoped it would be better. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as replacing the parts damaged from hitting the fence, your going to have to shop around a try to find what you need.
I'm almost 100% sure the reason you lost your front wheel drive is because of those little set screws in the outdrives(the part that the dogbone sits in coming out of the diff) loosened up. Your going to have to line up the end of the set screw with the flat spot on the shaft that the outdrive sits on and tighten it down good. You should thread lock it also so it dosen't loosen up again.

Thanks, for the info. As far as the busted front. I actually didn't wreck anything. I checked it out and the limiter on the right side steering knuckle was stuck on the lower arm and the screw for the servo saver had ejected. I replaced the screw and readjusted the steering and hopefully it's all set now. As far as the drive cup grub screws go I will have to check them another time, the truck is in my trunk and I have to watch my 9 month old son tonight. But thanks again for the help. I hope the 4WD is just that simple. I'll keep posting because this truck is probably my favorite R/C in my 15 years in the hobby.

Keep the Dom alive!!! lol

I'm actualy planning a nice rebuild. I haven't ran my Dominator in a couple of months. So I plan to rebuild all the diffs and shocks. Give it a good cleaning. Drop a new engine in (maybe an LRP .28). And paint a new body.

I won a like new 2 speed Dom tonight on eBay, should have it next week. Parts still seem to be easy to get. Will a Hitec 645MG (133oz) be enough for the steering duties?

RicMic
01-30-2007, 11:04 PM
I've been reading about the .32's for some time, when the Hyper 8 port runs its last, one of the new .32's will replace it.

ric, i dont think the 645 will do it for ya.. it will be very slow.. in monster trucks, you need to spend the money on the steering... i run a KO 2366ics servo.. the futaba 9350 is a good one also

Well, I'm going to try a Bluebird 630MG 190oz at .15sec/60 6v in both the Dom and my EK-4.

Nitrohouse (http://www.nitrohouse.com/ofna_dominator1.htm) is the best place to get OFNA parts online. They have great customer service and they are well stocked. After you click the link, you'll see two other links right above the truck. One is for stock parts, and the other is for option parts.

Yeah, Nitrohouse had better be the best place for OFNA parts here in the USA... since they are actually just an OFNA storefront. I have dealt with them in the past and they are good to their customers and should have just about everything in stock that you would need. I also just ordered parts for my Dom. Show Truck Special off of Tower and they had everything that I needed at the time. I was ordering some Traxxas stuff as well, so just bought everything on the same order.
