Working on rebuilding the Wespe I started out with three years ago. It suffered from a fall after hitting a wall in the hangar where I was flying it.
This one looks similar overall, but the fuselage is simplifed somewhat from the original version. Using a straight CF tube with everything hung on it instead of the boxed in layout it originally had. Also worked on getting rid of some of the weak areas that gave me problems. The cabane struts on the original were fragile and hard to deal with. Went with simple thin plywood brackets this time that carry the wing spars through via the original tubing in the wing and a CF rod through the bracket. I also managed to double up on the brackets, using the forward one to add support to the landing gear and to mount an m72 antenna, and the aft bracket serves as mounting plates for both servos. The balsa dowel landing gear failed the first time I flew the original, now it has standard CF rod struts supported by the orignal balsa wheels. Also pinned the tailfeathers to the fuselage with some thin CF rod. The original attachment was very flimsy.
For some reason, I can't locate my original set of plans. If someone has a set, could you please relay the suggested location of the CG aft of the wing LE? I've used the TLAR engineering method for most of the layout. At present, it has an all up weight of 4.7 oz with a GWS 7x150 pack installed. With the battery all the way forward, the CG is presently about 3.5" aft of the LE. (35% MAC). Might be a bit aft, I'm afraid.
Waiting for some new mylar, then she'll be ready to take to the air again.
