I saw the ad in the new car action and realized that they clamed nitro speed with the emaxx and tested 30mph. They also have a star beside it and it saids that they used 7 cells. My question is that is it safe to run 7 cells on my evx speed controller?

Quite good speed from stock anyway on a Big & Heavy wheeler like this one ...

Concerning your ESC, sorry I don't know if it can handles twice 7cells ... Just note rare are the strong BECs on 14cells ...

A far more cheaper more reliable choice could be an airplane controler made for up to 30cells with 50A continuous current (say what Car ESC manufacturers call 500A Max ESCs ....)
Jeti does such stuff for less than 60US$ , as does Kontronik, Graupner, etc. for a few bucks more ...

Good luck !

Looks like they used 2, 7 cell battery packs to acheive that speed with the stock Emaxx motors. To be on the safe side only use 2, 6 cell packs with the EVX ESC.

He means 7 cells per pack, which are in series, for a total of 14 cells and 16.8 volts.

Oh man I'm tired. I thought someone said 'the EVX can run on 12 cells so 7 will be a peice of cake' or something to that effect

IM putting 8cells on my sedan, and gettin a mod motor with a bunch of delrin parts......Im sure that will definately cream a truck goin 30mph :D  Try using two evx esc....i've seen a custom made MOnster truck with 4 evx esc's, and about 4-5 matched packs...It went about 30mph, but can really tug heavy objects.

the astroflight controller does not have brakes.
it uses reverse to stop like the first version
speed controller that came with the emaxx that
everyone was burning up.

Here's an email I got from Traxxas when asking a similar question. 8.4 volts (7 cells) per side max:

Hello,

The max input voltage for either side of the EVX is 8.4 volts. 12 volts
will burn out the ESC. You can use a receiver pack along with the
EVX. You do not need to cut any wires on the EVX to do this. Simply plug
the receiver pack into the BATT slot on your receiver.

Does anybody sell straps for 7cells per side on emaxx then? How come car and driver trested top speed with 6 cell per side and went all that trouble to change motors to only achieve 25mph where as traxxas is saying that 7 cell per side will achieve 30mph stock!
