Seeing as the other thread was getting so long, I thought it was time to start a new one. For any who don't know, Rosewood is in Goldsboro NC and as of right now, has an indoor offroad track. We use the latest AMBrc lap counting system along with the latest version of Autoscore eace management software.
Right now, we've gone back to running every other week, with the next race on the 23rd of March. Hope to see you all there!!!

Too Long? You Crazy? That's why they have pages! Not like lame Trinity that goes on and on til they delete your forums because they don't like/allow you to post local track chat! :p Anyways..... I was gonna rename it to being that Rosewood is suppose to have a new Asphalt Track built. So this will be both an OFF-ROAD and ON-ROAD RaceWay. Well for those who want a picture of the off-road indoor track here it is. Don't forget that the ROAR Region 3 race will be here at Rosewood Raceway come May 18th!
Here's the track....

WHAT HAPPENED TO IT?!?!?

That was before it was "hard packed." I dunno what they are gonna do for the Roar Regional in May, but I hope the rutts and bumps are fixed or I won't expect at Regional to be held back here again. Not knocking the hometown track. It's nice and all. People are great! Just needs some fixing for such a big race. Gonna be hard though with all the "cemet" in there hehe. :p But hey, the track is clean! Don't have to worry about muddy tires! :D Anyways, see yall next race!

The track is called off-road for a reason. If it's too bumpy for you why not race carpet. I think that the bumps are what makes it fun. You have to dial in your truck just right. It's not like the track is loose dirt. Like you said earlier it has concrete in it. The only changes in the surface that may need fixin' are the potholes before and after the table-top.:D

Hmmm, bumpy conditions,,, sounds like offroad to me too, but there are a few that need sprucing up. I for one though can hardly wait for the onroad track to get built. 2 touring cars, a Mini Z, a Micro, Legends, and 2 pan cars. I think just maybe there might be a class for me to run in,,,,

Jimmy, I'll be up in VA this weekend so let me know whats up with racing at the beach. Chris Johnson has shown an interest in going too. You might want to get ahold of him althogh, I can't seem to find his number. He lives in Mount Olive or out there somewhere,,,,
Anyhow, E-mail me at QJS2@msn.com before too long so I can get the directions from you.

Hey Tarheel, any word on sponsores or big names that might come to the regionals?
npresme
03-15-2002, 10:36 PM
The only big name ppl that will be there are the same guys you race with on a weekly basis! There maybe a few that you may not have seen before!
ROAR rules state that you can not run outside of your region unless you do not run the mains!! This means for someone to come from say region 2 they would pay Entry fee EX. $35 for three qualifiers then have to go home!!
So no FRANCIS, KINWALD or any of those guys!
ONLY TEAM HAMMER!!
Good luck to everyone!

I know it's offroad, and I DO race carpet. Just for a big race, the nice tracks seem to be the smooth ones with nice jumps. I'll be there regardless. Hmm and I was wondering about that Region deal. Kinda sucks, but I guess it's why we are in Regions. Too bad for the Viginia crew that comes down here.
Anyways, Ron, show up at Virginia Beach at 10am. Take exit 17a (Independence Blvd NORTH). Adress is 1067 and it's located within the HAYGOOD Shopping Center. Phone number is 757 464-4140. Racing starts at Noon! I'll be there!! If you have your own pit table, bring it!

When in May is the Roar Regionals? Is it a one or two day race? Will there be practice during the week before the Regionals? Sounds like it will be a great race. What tires are you guys running now that it is hard packed (truck). Does anybody out there have a 4wd (I have a XX4 I have been dying to run, lol). Thanks guys.

May 18th. So far it's just a 1 day race. I think there "might" be a practice during the week or the day before. We are racing this Saturday "hint hint." It will become a 2 day event if there are too many people signed in to race that Saturday. More info can be had by calling the track. The number is in the Track Directory on this Website (RCCA.) Oh yeah, as far as tires, hmmmm right now it's mostly Holeshots rear and whatever up front hehe. I run the Losi uhhh damn, forget what they were.. 8 rib thingies. Hmmmm I'll have to check see again Saturday. Come on out and Race!

Thanks Jimmy. Are they still racing every other Saturday? You are racing this weekend March 23rd, so the next race will be April 6th, then April 20th, etc? I have wanted to make it up there, but it is hard when you have to work most weekends. I have to plan things wayyyy in advance. The May 18th race is looking good for me. I see that they have a great stock truck turnout. Thanks again.

Yes, it is every other Saturday. I'll be there tomorrow. But more than likely I'll be putting my truck together again at the track like that last race. Just too busy at home ta do it. Oh well, who needs practice when you are Superman!! See yall there!

I dunno, the results look good to me... well not my results haha :D I had a terrible run! I don't know what's up tomorrow. Nothing on my schedule. Maybe I'll fiddle with my old Yokomo. Plus I guess I'm no longer XXX-Sexy... hehe. I'll have to thing of something different for a TC3. Hmmmmm I dunno. Depends if I wake up tomorrow during the day or not. hehe. Anyways, call me. I'll email my number to ya again. Time to scout out some TC3 setups.........

03-24-2002, 06:03 PM
Ron thanks for posting the results. Ok I have made a comment to Kilruf about the track surface and it being off-road and all. BUT I must agree after the condition of the track this weekend, WELL lets just say ?????????????????????? is it going to be a hard sticky surface or a softer loose surface? I don't think this hard loose thing works. Mybe its time to allow for some track prep time??? I wish I could help out but theres that wotk thing that always gets in the way. Can you say WWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDD exposure on the triple. OUCH:D
MrBill
03-25-2002, 07:09 PM
I would love to run on the track that is in those pictures.
Its a wonder someone hasn't broken a chassis on that exposed railroad tie in the triple.
But, I guess its more money in the shop owners pocket if someone does.
BTW, How many of the drivers want the outdoor track converted to asphalt? Everyone I've talked to at the track thinks its a shame to see the offroad go.
JimmyMac
03-25-2002, 07:48 PM
I can't wait to see the asphalt track come in. But who knows when that will happen. So much is goin on right now with indoor track (Regional). So I have no clue when it'll be done. I think that he just needs some help tearing down the track and it would be done soon. Plus he's selling alot of on-road cars at his shop with people asking where to race them. Doesn't really matter to me if he builds one there or not. I have plenty of places to race asphalt. Just would be nice to have something local. Plus you can race Any RC car on asphalt.
Oh, and about the off-road outdoors, alot of people that race at Rosewood indoors didn't race the outdoor track. Maybe a few here and there that raced every once and awhile. But it was pretty dead when I started racing there last year. Maybe 4-6 stock trucks, 4-6 1/8 gas, and 1-3 gas trucks. Sometimes the gas trucks would have to race with the stock electric trucks. But who knows. I don't own it. I just race there every race day. :D Indoors is pretty popular, but then again it's/was winter season.
Anyways, see yall out at Rosewood next, next weekend. Then at Chapel Hill that Sunday. 60+ racers there! XXX-S has been sold (money talks)... so it's time to start Shaften People!!

Hey everyone
I just wanted to pop in here and tell ya that the food is covered for the regional race mom is planning for lots of people and if you were at the Bash race you know just how good the eats were, she does plan on a little more variety too. Hope to see you all there bring your race cars and hungry selves out for the fun!!!!
Thanks Rodney

I for one am sort of sad to see the outdoor track go bye-bye, BUT, then again, I'd rather run my touring cars during the summer than the truck. Think of it, when Glenn would water the track, by the time he got finished, where he started out at was now dry. And if you water it enough for it to not dry out, your running in mud. It's a pain to keep up. I was out there pulling up weeds last year, thats a pain!. Not to mention the track surface itself. No more raking, filling in holes, muddy tires and trucks, dirt getting into my motors, all that sort of stuff. Cleaner cars, equipment, less hassles, why not do it? Yes, I do like offroad, but I have maybe a little more fun on road courses without jumps and ruts.
Ron Zee
03-28-2002, 09:12 PM
Okay, this is an off weekend so if anyone out there really wants to work on the track this weekend, call Glenn and tell him so. Or call him to find out when the next "repair" day might be. The more people willing to volenteer, the more likely it'll happen! One guy running a hobby shop and very few people willing to help out, makes it hard to get anything done.
Part-time
03-28-2002, 10:54 PM
I'm sure that alot of us would like to help, but lets face it time is money. Now if glenn wants to pay a days labor to work on the outdoor track lets talk. I'm out of ajob right now and volenteering doesn't put food in my families mouth.:D Please don't get me wrong I don't mind helping out with the maintenance on the indoor if I dont have anything lined up this wed. And I'm sure your asking your self whats the dif. Well out side will be alot of work and inside just a little.;) ;) :D :p

Hey Ron, ya ready for Chapel Hill next Sunday? My "shaft" is ready to roll! Superman is ready to fly! :D Hey, does your TC3 oneway still work or did you destroy it? Just wondering if you'd like to trade it for my new 300M body. My Stratus is done. Not as good as it could have been, but it's still done. Anyways, see yall at Rosewood Saturday! Oh yeah, and I think they race Mooresville Touring Car on Saturdays now with the Oval guys. Not sure yet. But I'll find out. Catch yall later!

Where else do you run touring besides Va. and Chapel Hill? Any permanent courses around? I have a weeks vacation in a couple of weeks and I am not goinig anywhere so I thought I would find a new track to go visit.

Just wanted to chime in here and say I'll be at Chapel Hill this weekend. I've spent the last two days getting the cars changed over to the pavement setup and I'll be ready to run.
What do you think about the new "rules"? I think they are trying to be all things to all people by trying to run 11 classes! They also doubled the entry fee last week. Are you gonna participate in the points race? I'm concerned about people bending the rules with no tech to go through, however, Rosewood has no tech either.
Anyway, maybe we should start a Chapel Hill Forum here and talk further about it elsewhere.
See y'all on Sunday!!!

Last time I looked on their site, it said it was still 5 to enter 1 class but 10 to enter more than one. Since when I go there I'm running only one class, no probllem. Has this changed or is it still posted this way on the site?
No Jimmy, the one way is still in one piece in my "parts bag". Hey, it's worth at least 2 bodies?? no??
Anyhow, yes my TC3 is sort of road ready, seeing as it wasn't really carpet ready!!LOL
And, I've been meesing with that lap counter thingy,,, man, that suckers better than a stop watch!! And just a little more portable than a 'puter!!
I'll be back in Goldsboro tomorrow,, made a deal with Julie to give her a day off at the motel,,, I'm at the desk right now!!! Workin?? NOT!!!

Ron,
The main page has the new fees, $10 for one class $15.00 for multiple classes. The rules page has not been updated. Also starting 2nd or 3rd race Roar membership will be required. There will be more info at the first race. They also have a lap counting system now. See you Sunday.

04-01-2002, 11:46 PM
Well I don't know about them changing rules. Lineup still looks the same to me. I don't cheat and I win at Chapel Hill! :D Anyways, thats why I race mod. How can you cheat in mod? hehe. As for stock, well I'll see if there are cheaters. If they can beat my GM3, then they are cheating! :p Well I'll be there for sure this Sunday with my TC3. I'm thinking about running my RC10L2 Oval car for the pan car class. I think I can sorta get it set up and running for a road course. It'll be just for fun. Only thing is I don't have good tires for it. All mine are Blue Foams. But I'm sure I'll find a way to tune it to handle right. I'm thinking on 3 classes now for $15. Stock/Mod Electric and 1/10 Pan Car Class.
Quality, I only have run Touring at Chapel Hill, Hampton VA, VA Beach (hobbytown usa and debbies rcworld), and Race City (mooresville, nc.) I have yet to try out the tracks in S. Carolina. Race City is indoor carpet. Hampton VA is indoor carpet. Hobbytown USA and Debbies are now outdoor parking lot. S. Carolina is outdoor permanent track. I beleive there are at least 2 down there like that. Jacksonville is suppose to have the indoor carpet oval and road course track. Anyways, I'm sorta getting tired of running indoor carpet. So I'll be running either Chapel Hill and/or Debbies and Hobbytown for Touring Car. I'll be skipping Chapel Hill for Debbies Trophy Races this coming June. So this will give you guys a chance at the podium. :p I can't wait for the Asphalt track to be build here in Goldsboro/Rosewood. But I don't forsee that happening anytime soon. I'd like to help out, but I work during the week and race during the weekend. Plus when I show up on Wednesdays after work, no one is there. I wish there were more Asphalt or Parking lot tracks in North Carolina. But I only know of one... Chapel Hill!
Anyways, let me stop my b*#%hing. Had to work overtime at work and also arguing with my girlfriend. Blah!! Gotta put my Deans Connectors back on my Batteries for Chapel Hill. See yall there! Maybe I'll post a pic of my sorry Stratus Superman Body later on. Tomorrow I guess. Take it easy!

Jimmy,
Who brought up cheating? As for you sitting on the podium all season I think I may have a little to say about that!! I was going to run those same 3 classes but just traded my 10L for a NIB thundershot, SO.... I will just have to settle on beating you in mod with my Evo 2 and stock with my MR4TC pro. So watch out!!! I am looking forward to running against all of you it should be a blast. I wish there were more outdoor tracks too, and I was hoping you might have known of a permanent one within decent driving distance. Yall need to get busy down in Goldsboro on the new track! How is Debbies? Where in Va Beach is the shop? I lived there while I was in the Navy and at the time the only track I knew of was on base in Norfolk.
See ya,
Tom:)

Billy, No GT in my future, unless I pull the engine and transmission from my sprint car. I ran a few tanks through my 1/8 car at Stoney Point, had a ton-o-fun. I'm going to stick with buggies, if enough people show to run electric at Rosewood, other wise, I'll run 1/8 at Stoney Point.
Tiffany, if you run spec, most likely, you'll have to marshall stock buggy. There's only one important thing to know about, always marshall my car first! :)

Yeah, knew I couldn't race today because I had to work to catch up on production. But I was gonna stop by and watch the racing. Well I did and as I was nearing the "Rosewood Raceway Sign" I noticed that there weren't any cars parked away from the building. As I got closer, no cars near the building. Pulled in and only one car sitting out there. Called Ron's place. Not home but they told me that Glenn had a class or something that day and he didn't show up til like 3pm. Anyways, heard from alot of people that they are pissed. Especially the out of towners. Hope no Virginia crowds came down. Hate to drive 3 hours for nothing. But let's not quit just yet. We should let him explain why or what before we make our judgements. I'm just glad I decided to work today instead of putting it off to race. :p Anyone goin to Chapel Hill Tomorrow? Ron, myself and maybe Chris J. will be heading out. See yall there!

Yeah the no show really SUCKED!!!!!!!! I drove 45min. to be there and other people over an hour. We all took a pole on saterday and decided that we need to be compensated. Concidering we waited for almost three hours. Can you say sucked.

Well, I was disappointed, I wanted to play with my little toy car too. I drove an hour and a half last Saturday in the rain and had a great day, I drove 20 minutes yesterday and didn't. Things don't always go the way we want, "s#!t happens".
It sure was nice having a place to race during the winter, remember that snow in January, the place was packed.
Where I come from "we all" means everyone, someone didn't ask me, my feelings are hurt.
While I'm at it, the idea of standing out on a slab of asphalt that's 200 degrees on a 100 degree day, in the sun, doesn't sound like a good idea to me, but that's just me.
While I was waiting Saturday I heard someone say something that, I feel, is worth repeating. Pave the front of the store, use it for the touring cars and a parking lot. It gets used year round that way. "IF" the touring car thing works out or not, the money wasn't wasted.
To me, that's a good idea, I wish I had thought of that. "IF" there is indoor offroad this coming winter, a paved parking lot sure would be nice.
Well...that's it, no, wait there's more...never mind, everyone will forget in a week anyway.
Oh well, back to the coloring book, my green crayon is about shot, does anyone have an extra?

OK, so Saturday sucked. Goof grief. Give it a rest. Glenn is only one person, he had no control over what happened Saturday. He was trying to do something that would help protect his business a little. I went to the same class and it did go longer than planned. This has never happened to you. An apology, I'm sure it is warranted. Compensation, I don't think so. I'm sorry you had to wait so long. Maybe Glenn should have just rescheduled the race???????????Then when no one showed up for the alternate day, could Glenn be pissed off? I say if you come every weekend and you support Glenn with all your purchases from his hobby store, then you have a right to complain about him being late once. But if you have ever missed a race day, then keep quiet. We have had some great racing, if you don't want to be a part of it, your loss.
Ron Zee
04-07-2002, 10:35 PM
Hey now, there's an idea Glenn, How about paving it in the front? It would take a lot less prep to do it there, and you could keep the offroad too. At the least, it's something to think about.?. I mean after today at Chapel Hill, you sure as heck don't "need" a 10foot tall drivers stand to see the track. Their track layout is absolutely huge and the drivers stand is about 1.5 feet tall. Darn 10th scale looks like a micro that far away anyhow, any higher than that and they'd look even smaller!! LOL
Hope to see everyone soon,,
Dustin

I third the idea of keeping the offroad in the back, and onroad up front...
JimmyMac
04-08-2002, 12:12 AM
Great Idea! I like that idea. Why? Because it can be done in like what.... one week? Or basically whenever the contractor has time to do it! Looking at Chapel Hill today (a tad unorganized but still a fun day) they had over 115 entries. Not individual people, but entries. Or translated to around 25 heats or something like that? What was it Ron. Anyways, it was fun there today. Had a blast. I think Rosewood would be alot more oganized. Plus I know alot of people would be interested in running it. Blah blah blah, let me go to bed. I hate loosing that damn hour.....

From an outsiders point of view and someone who didn't drive all the way to Rosewood to find a locked door. The major attitude of everyone I talked to at Chapel Hill yesterday was they are really pi$$ed-off about the whole thing. I mean they are REALLY pi$$ed! To the point of not going back to Rosewood for quite some time and then only to pay the entry fee and race. Leaving the parts purchasing to internet orders only.
Everyone seemed most upset about Glenn's posts here right after it happened. His seemingly indifference to Weekend's post about people not showing up for the regionals. It seemed that people just were looking for a simple apology for it and got a face full of attitude. However, Glenn's point of one miss in 12 years is a valid one but what's the reason that someone else doesn't have the keys to the place (like Ron)? Just keep the parts room locked seperately.
Glenn, you know I respect you for all that you've done for R/C in this state, but I think this one is gonna sting a little. I don't have any reason not to come because I didn't experience Saturday's event, but I think you may have lost some loyal customers (for a while anyway).
Later dooooooods,

Loosing customers---I don't think that is necsisary. Having a life ---OK. Better planning-- A MUST! How about an appoligy--- No crawling just an appoligy. Mistakes happen. Better planning --- A MUST !!! I'm sorry did I already say that. The asphalt in the front sure sounds good. Mybe altenate weekends. I know your only on person. Hey Weekend Racer, I don't think I said everyone was wrong, if it came across that way then I apologize. This has really gotten out of hand. OK Glenn should have planned better. But he thought he would be finished in time to get to the track and open at his usual time. It got screwed up, but not by him. Anyway, you have my apology and I know Glenn is going to make a face to face apology at the next race, he knows all of you are upset and he doesn't want that. I hope no-one will quit coming over this. So if you want an apology from Glenn then be at the next race. :(

Got a new motor from Glenn today for my Mini -Z. Hard to beleive somthing so darn small can go so fast! It's almost as fast as my STOCK Micro with a 5 cell pack!
Anyhow, I'll be there setting up the 'puter, so remember to register BEFORE Glenn has to tell you to do so, it cuts down on my load a whole lot more, and it makes it a lot easier to start on time. And another thing, If you have them, PLEASE give more than 1 frequency for your radio. 2 or more channels makes life so much easier up in that booth,,,,

Ron Zee
04-17-2002, 10:22 AM
Officially the track opens at 12 and you can register then. The registration cut off is 2:30 and hopefully, the racing starts at 3. There's 3 rounds of IFMAR style qualifying followed by the mains. The setting up of the pitspace will depend on how much stuff you bring. Me,, I got 1 toolbox with pretty much everything stuffed into it. Pull out the power supply and charger, hook 'em up, start cooking batteries.
Sometimes though, Glenn'll get there earlier than 12 and he'll open up as soon as he gets there, but like I said, OFFICIALLY, the place opens at 12.

Leadfoot, pit space is not a problem, you'll have room, even if it's after 1:00 before you get there. I might be wrong but, I don't think there will be enough buggies to make a class.

There's been a few changes in the Rosewood world. Go to the www.rosewoodrc.com site and see the new Schedule page for info. Basically, the track will be closed after this weekend for maintenance and then it will reopen for the practice days on May 16th and 17th, and then the Regional on the 18th. Then it will close the indoor track for the summer with work starting on the new outdoor onroad track with dates for opening and races to be determined.

Light turn out I see. Sorry I didn't run today. But my T3's are in pieces and I needed a last minute TC3 parts run. So since I was headed up to VA Beach, why not race! Well I did good I guess. 2nd in Mod Touring. And a 2nd (controversial) in Stock Touring. Why? That's what you get when they hand count hehe. They said 4th, Dave (who won) said I got 2nd. I was coming up to lap 3rd place at the end of the race. I think they got confused when I was bumped and spun out at the start of the race. But I caught back up and past everyone but the leader. I dunno. They should have a new AMBrc system within a week. So I won't get cheated out of any more races. :p Anyways, I let the others have their "ribbons." And continued on to Mod Class. It was a fun day with no rain. Didn't get all the stuff I needed for my TC3, but I picked up a few other things for Chapel Hill tomorrow.
Anyways, I guess Rosewood will be closed until the warm-up race for the Regional. I'll be back for that Race and the Regional as well. Can't wait! See you guys there! :D

Hey, you all better plan on running a few packs for practice!! Spent a few hours out there yesterday with Glenn, and while the layout is the same, the surface is as of right now quite different than it was before!! Holes have been fixed, the front straight is now a lot smoother, the big sweeper into the straight is now flat instead of off-camber, no more ruts on the tabletop, dirt added to the front straight to eliminate the bump right in front of the drivers stand, LOTS of work has been done by Glenn to get the track ready for the Regionals.
Hope to see you all there soon, and don't forget to visit www.rosewoodrc.com for info and race results.

Let's wait and see what happens tomorrow at the track before we make tire choices. :D

Bowties were working well. The track is still fast even when a bit damp. With the laptimes we were running, I expect it will take a 16 or at least fast 15 lap run to make the A in stock truck.
Stan, If you switch cars, what will be your excuse then?? LOL!! So you coming to Rosewood this weekend or what? How about Maggot racing? Big Al? Chris? Mike? .......where is everyone??

Just came back the track is pretty good. the table top kicks and the jumps are tuned well. I was hooking up with fuzzie "Ts", but I'm sure it will change tomorrow. See ya'll there.
Southborn, I'm not sure about the capacitors bing in side so I added some to mine.

Street Spoec motors are of the old style meaning yes, you NEED TO PUT CAPACITORS ON IT!! There are NONE under the brush hoods.
Bowties on my Spec truck seem to be working fine,,, driver now needs help,,, LOLOL
Also, The track will open at 8AM but the racing will now start at 11AM to allow a few region 2 drivers who are coming a little practice time.
But please, come as early as you can so I can get everyone into the 'puter as soon as I can.

Boy, that looks like a pretty weak turn-out for a ROAR regional. Looks just like the average race with some new names in there once-and-a-while.
JIMMY? The B-Main? What happened?
I wanted to stop by today and check it out, but I got tied up polishing my motorcycle and time got away from me.
See ya' in Chapel Hill!

Yeah WEAK turn out is right. It's a shame, but lets face it being closed before a major race is not a good idea. Plus there are still alot of pissed off people out there yet over what had happened a few weeks ago. Or should I say how it was handled. But that was the past and I like to live in the future."present" So Ron the main was a little messy, why didn't you take third? That kid deserved to get bounced back. I deserved last in the main but got 5th. I need to learn to stay colmn. So Billy do you feel good winning? You drove well. Hopefully you'll keep running with us in spec so we can learn from you. I know you had every right to race in the class because its not a beginners class its a spec class. Sorry if I was a d-ckhead. In stead of wineing I should have been asking you pointers.

I'm not a soar looser I deserved last like I said. I am just not pleased about billy. Oh did you see his time? Its amazing how a spec motor can be faster that a stock isn't it???? Weekender you are deffinately right about the days events. The food, door prizes and staff were fantastic, a real standard setter for how a race day should go. Who won the 1/8th scale buggy anyway? Glenn the track was great!!! Thanxs:)

Well if anyone thinks that this was a "WEAK" turn out, then they are very WRONG!!! I will agree that it may not have been a big turn out, meaning number of people. But "WEAK" it was not! There were some of the fastest guys you will run against in region 3 there this weekend! Maybe the people that think those guys are "WEAK" should really watch them run and should take the time to ask them of there accomplishments in R/C! Then you may want to change your wording!!!
I would like to say thanks to the Rosewood staff for a great race and to Mike Russell for his professionalism as region director.

Hi everyone
I think the regionals went well, yeah there could have been more people but there were plenty of fast guys there congrats to all the winners. Just one thing about the spec motors and Billy, for one he is new to this sport and is a beginer ( am I right Billy) I think he has only been racing for a short while he is just a quick learner and listens to what the fast guys say and on the spec motors well stock truck qualified at 16 laps and spec only 15 by the way on the spec motors in oval last year at Rosewood they went 2 laps faster than stock they are modifieds ya know 21 turn 12 degrees of timing. Its a clean line around the track and being consistant. You are right about one thing though watch Billy because he doing it right!
Great Race Glenn!!!! cant wait for the Bash this fall!!

Haha, yeah, it was a weak turn out (meaning not as many people as should have been there.) But hey, I still came to support my local track. I had fun even though I wasn't concentrating on it. Anyways, I don't think Billy cheated. People have been on 15 lap paces before. Plus his motor was tore down right? I dunno, did you watch his driving? Was it that bad that he should not have won? Or was it that good that he did deserve to win? I mean Steve B was pulling my leg telling me my motor was screaming. But there was no way I could hang with him. My truck just wasn't setup and my mind wasn't in it. I drove horrible. Fast motors ain't everything. Especially in offroad! Driving counts most!
Anyways, I thought the race was run very well. Wish the turnout would have been better. But still we had most of fast guys there. I enjoyed it. Hope to see you guys sometime soon. Especially if Glenn builds an asphalt track. Well take it easy...

Kilruf- I didn't say he shouldn't have won. He ran GREAT, I just said that something might be a little funny. Yes I think they tore down the winners motors, but you can't tell if magenets have been zapped that way.

Whats up everyone? I really enjoyed this weekend. Even with the small turn out I thought it was a great race. Congradulations to all the winners.
Billy, dont worry about it. I have no doubt that you were legal. I have heard them announce that I was on a 15 lap pace a couple of times in spec(usually right before I have a spectacular wreck) and I suck so I know it is possible. Also, I dont see anything wrong with running spec if thats what you want to do. I guess sometimes people just get too frustrated or something. Oh well, it will be alright. Take care everyone.

Thanks Wayne for doing an outstanding tech job. Ron, good calling once again. Thanks for the help in the parts room Bo. I hope everyone had a great time. We will keep you posted on the next race. I would like to comment on everyone that is saying Billy "dropped" a class!! I do not know Billy, this was the first time I had seen him race. The reason I want to comment is this same thing happened at our local track before it closed last year! First, the class is called spec, corrcet, not novice so therefor if anyone wanted to run they could! There are guys that are running in that class that have been racing for a number of years and no one says they zapped motors or anything else when they win! At our local track we had guys that had made it through novice and stock truck all the way to pro truck! Well when they figured out that they could not win or run in the top 2 or 3 everyweek. They went to the track owner and started there on class 4 cell off-road truck! This took about 10 to 15 people out of the other classes and when some of the pro drivers got together and decided to run four cell then there was this "big problem". So if this class is going to be called spec and not novice then anyone should be able to run in it!!! If this class was intended to be for begginners then call it novice! But either way Billy would still be in it, he said he had only been racing for 5 months!!! That is just my 2 1/2 cents worth!!!!
chiromaster
05-21-2002, 08:25 AM
Well here's my comment for what it's worth. As has already been said, spec class is NOT novice class. Anyone who want's to run the spec equipment can run in the class. Second, Billy has a very simple dynamite charger and no fancy equipment. Third, Billy has been racing for a much shorter time than most of you spec class drivers, so if he has gotten faster than you in that period of time, what does that tell you?? Maybe you need to work on your driving skills!! I see some guys out there who NEVER learn from their mistakes and won't listen to any constructive advice.
I see spec drivers take a line on the track that causes them to end up on their lid and have to wait for the turn marshalls. Amazingly, they will take the same line EVERY lap and somehow think that something different will happen. If you guys would just ease off a little and concentrate on taking a good line, you would have fast laps too. You can take that track without making ANY of the jumps and turn 21 or 22 second laps. That's faster than most of you spec guys are going. Once you can do that, then try to make the jumps and you will be turning 19 second laps like Billy was.
I say congrat's to Billy for a good weekend. He raced well and had good results with very marginal equipment. He beat me and I have all the dynos and turbo 35's and lathes, etc, etc. He doesn't have any of that stuff.

AS one of the poeple who set up the spec class, and the last original founding racer in this class, as well as being a race announcer, I have indeed seen others run their SPEC trucks on a 15 lap pace before,, but like Chris said, it's before the big wreck.
Billy missed all the major mishaps in that main. He turned consistant laps, He ran a good line, and kept his concentration. All that adds up to a really good run.
As for Spec motors going fast,,, they should. After all, they are modifieds. In fact, If I had been thinking right,(and not calling races,,) I would've just run my truck in Mod. with nothing more than a battery change. Spec motors with a good battery can fly!!
Billy just proves that in racing there are the wanna haves, and the gotta haves. You gotta have a charger, but you wanna T35, not the low budget one. All that expensive stuff is really nothing more than eye candy.
Yeah, I know I have some of it,, but most of mine was bought used!!! Heck, the last new racing vehical I've bought other than the Micro, was my T3,, 3 years ago.:)
So, congates to the winners and to all that came, and I hope to see you soon!!!

Since everyone else has put in there 2 cents I thought mybe 2 more wouldn't hert. I know both billy and rob from racing at rosewood and stoney. They're both nice guys. I talked with both of them on sat. and....Rob was disappointed because he knew he most likely couldn't beat billy. So look at it from his point of view. Your all excited to race and in robs case (if he had a good day), would have done much better. So right off the bat with billy in the class chances are slim. Then I know rob thought billy had been racing for a while (because of his skill level) and he thought spec was for beginner class drivers. Billy also told him he entered the class because he most likely would win it. Add all that up plus how BAD rob drove and you get someone who needs to vent somehow.
Now look at it from billys point of view. He wanted to have a full day of racing and wanted to have as much oppertunity to win as possible, so he ran in spec too, because he knows that thats were all the beginner/ok drivers run. And him being a pretty good driver upped is chances of a win. So there is my 2 cents.
We all hve bad days and don't always handle it right so don't give rob a hard time about it. And don't pick on billy obout racing with the kids. Yes Ron your a big(very big) kid.
Ok new subject....Ron what kind of lathe did you get?

Billy,
Don't know about this weekend. The watermelon doesn't have it's own website, it is run by ORA atomic racers. They haven't had a working website in a while.
They do keep an active thread on the sgrid forums. If you have an account there then go to the entrance, then list all forums, select offroad forum and list all items. You should see a thread for the race. I can also tell you anything you need to know. I can fax you a copy of the entry, or I might even have it in MS Word format, I could e-mail it to you.
Did you get my messages about the 1/8? Shoot me an e-mail at chiro972@aol.com.

In a week or two I'll move into second place in Nitro Truck. Right now, if you drop the lowest two points of all the competitors, I'm about third or so. With you backing out I've now got a decent shot at it.
All of this is tongue-in-cheek. I REALLY enjoy you being there. You and Tiffany will be sorely missed. We all think it sucks to have to sit and roast all day for two lousy races per class. But you and I have had some pretty good fights with our trucks. We all hope you are not quitting cold turkey and will join us every now and then for a little more truck bashing. We'll still be seeing y'all at Hope Mills? Right? And once Glenn gets the asphalt track up I'll be there too... I think.
Give Tiff a hug for all of us and we'll miss y'all this weekend.
Later doooooood,

i wouldn't give this sport up for nothin.:D i really enjoy passing i mean racing you to.lol:) i won't miss a weekend once glen gets the track together.i like racing the croud there at rosewood.they after all are the ones who got me going.finally figured out why tif's truck was so slow.i had her esc set all the way down.we are going to the warm up race in aikens this weekend and i can't wait to see how she does in novice class now that she has got some speed on her side.:)
wonder if glen is going to set up all the same class that they are running at chapel hill.would like to see a novice class and a spec class if there are enough people to do it.i'm sure everybody knows why(part-time)
gonzof1, see you in a couple of weeks at stoney point.that was a great stock truck race last time...chance,hopfully you will be in it next time.:) well, talk to ya'll later................billy

Spred the word throughout the land, Rosewood will rise again. Wait, i'm getting carried away again. Maybe i got to much sun today. Maybe i should see a doctor or something. Billy,
Your not still on that kick are you? I appologized and made it known that I had a big bug up my but that day and made an a$$ out of myself (must of had pms or something). And that I thought that spec was for beginner/novice drivers like my self. I didn't know that people with a good driving ability (like you) were aloud in the class. (no offence to the other drivers in spec)
Now I know different. Plus you probably won't have to worry about seeing me until the winter. I don't have the $$ to get a car for asphalt.

part-time no hard feeling just giving you a hard time;) you can still run off-road at stoney point.it's in hope mills,so don't know how far of a trip that would be for you.definetly worth it though, it is a awsome track.you can also run trucks in chapel hill, but ask gonzof1 they can't touch the touring cars.talk to ya'll later ................billy

HEY! That's not funny! :p I can hold my own there. I finished forth in the A-Main last month because Jimmy broke his TC3 and ended up in the B-Main. Trucks are tough... touring cars are fragile... problem is they are fast

Hey, come on now,, not all those big wheeled trucks are slow!!! In fact, X-Ray, (asI call it) will be coming with me this weekend to C.H. Now, I may not race it, but I am going out to see what it'll do this year. It didn't do all that bad last year when it was set-up for oval,,,,,, and it's won every race it's been in out at Va. Beach,, I'd like to see what'll do now,,,, and no,, not all the drivers out there at Va Beach in the truck class were kids.
Anyhow, Rosewood is going to be open for indoor offroad on June 15th, so tell your freinds. For more info, call Glenn at the hobby store, or go to www.rosewoodrc.com
See Ya!!!

Easy? hehe, actually it's alot of work! But then again, I've been racing Touring Cars since 96. Of course I started RC back in 86. But I know it doesn't show in off road. lol :D Well, maybe on the outdoor track. I suck on the indoor. Maybe someday I'll try Stoney Point again. Haven't been there since I started back up in RC last year. I dunno, I just don't do too good with indoor tracks. Anyways, I might make the 15th, I might not. Not sure. They will more than likely have me work that Saturday since I'm off this weekend and I'll be on vacation next weekend. Who knows, but I'll try. I haven't put up my truck just yet! Hey Glenn, if I bring an EMaxx, can I try it on the indoor track for fun? :D Well guys and gals... see you on the flip side!

He pretty much did. But then again I was just getting back into RC last year. First time actually racing offroad since 89. I've love to give it a go again out there, but uhhhh it's kinda tore down now. :D Not that I'm complaining about that. :p Hmmm you bring your monster truck, I'll bring mine.. and Wayne with the other one... anyone else?? That would be cool...

Well, it is called Spec Trucks,, but the person who has final say is Glenn, so that's the one you need to ask. There is a big weight difference between buggys and trucks though. Lighter rotating mass too in the tire area also would mean better acceleration than the trucks have. On the down side though is that the buggies are narrower and a little shorter than the trucks, so they don't seem to handle as stable as the trucks do. You really need to get him to say yes or no on this one. Nothing against anyone, but me for one, it's been trucks from the start of this class, lets keep it trucks.
Anyhow,, it's 90+ up here in Va. as I type this and there's a pool outside,,, guess where I'm headed???
