if your going to get the hyper, wait a bit for this:

smart design by coleman. sideways steering servo ensures zero rub on servo body, better balance and lower center of G. even the gas tank is thought out for 20-30 minute A-mains. i saw my pitman reaching in looking for the fuel lid. lost about 5 seconds of time on that with the traditional tank design. had to pit 3 times. keep that in mind.
the hyper, when racing or bashing, is sturdy and hardly ever breaks. the kyosho on the other hand unless upgraded with $200 worth of fioroni or after market components, is built to be light for racing. the shock towers will bend. if you don't get the sp1-2 kits, the chassis will bend as well.
when test driving the 9.5 pro i found the kit heavy, and slow on turning. even with some serious tow out on the front with a 200oz steering servo. i wasn't impressed. some footage of the 9.5 in the middle. first orange car is a kyosho kanai 1. http://www.unethkl.com/rctrack/Aliso9.wmv the 9.5 comes with the force .25 engine i believe. that engine weighs about twice that of the C5 rody seen on the kyosho. weight is key when jumping, going into turns and coming out of turns. momentum will put push your car to the outside of the track on turns. look how tight colemans kit turns.
the kyosho is great for serious racing. by serious i mean you plan on spending upwards of $2000 for your kit (sp2), servos (aitronics 94358, or new hitech titanium series, 333oz.), radio (mx3 and up), modified engine and pipe (WS7 II, C5 BB or nova rosi p5 modified - 086 pipe or jammin), starter box and accessories. the kit componenets are refined, well though out and superbly machined. you can see the difference in sensitivity between kits on the track. the kyosho takes a bit longer to learn to control than other kits. (very sensitive).
if you go with the hyper, be sure to get the PCR pro kit. the upgrades are worth it. as soon as this one comes out i will buy one and run both kyosho and ofna, and see what's up.

fix to the broken link. ofna's servers are case sensitive.

hey does anyone know anything about these three buggies?gs racing 1/8 storm rtr plus, ofna 1/8 ultra mbx competition rtr, ofna ultra copetition lx rtr w/.26 engine.
i want to know if they are bashers or racers and are they even a good buy?

the storm will be your best bet for racing. but the diffs will have to be upgraded to hardened steel diffs and shimmed accordingly. swap the servos with 200oz and up, should be enough to get you on the track. i'd also suggest tacking the kit apart and locktighting everything to assure a seemles build.
anything above .21 will consume too much fuel and you'll most likey come in last cause of it.
in main finals your run from 20-30 minutes.
i'd suggest going to a track nearby and checking out the finals of a race.
the other 2 kits are bashers. they won't turn as tight on the track.

yeah i heard the storm is a good buggy but it breaks pretty easily. and only 14 years old and the local track is pretty small and is sort of hard to get my mammoth st to get tite on the turns on the throttle. but i want something with a large enough engine to gain the momentum i need to clear the jumps and to catch up to the other cars if i have trouble on the turns. what about ofna's Ofna 1/8 Ultra MBX Competition RTR w/Powerstart. looks good but i have not head anything about the quality of ofna unlike the poor quality of xtm!!!!!

the ofna mbx will do. at 14 and this most likely being an entry way to the 1/8th scale class go for it. it's affordable, tuff, and will do the job.
who knows, maybe you'll beat the local pro weenie at that track one day. he'd love that! ha! :D

There is nothing really worth mentioning.
The 9.5 is just...average, but a good average. I've never had any major problems with my old 9.5
I'm getting a new RTR to rebuild my old brushless buggy.

What's the difference between the torsion diff and a normal diff? Pros/Cons?
Thanks
AreCee

First of all it's a TORSEN diff which is an abreviation of Torque Sensing. A normal diff will send all the power to the unloaded wheel whereas a torsen diff sends it to both. This make make the end the torsen is on a bit squirrelly in loose, bumpy and low traction surfaces but it will sure pull hard on high tack surfaces.

Alright. If I can find one, do you think it would slip right in my ofna comp II? I would think they would be the same size.
Do you reccommend one or not?

Don't know. Why not ask on the OFNA board?

i cant be 100% sure, but i would say it would fit, cause 9.5 and ultras share many parts, and its very nice upgrades, i liked running torsen very much

What are the pros/cons of running the torsen diff?
AreCee
03-22-2006, 06:22 PM
I told you before. In loose or bumpy dirt it will feel twitchy and hard to hold a line. On hard high traction surfaces it will give you better acceleration if you use a center torsen because it transfers more power to the front wheels rather than unloading like a reg diff.
I'll sell you mine because IMHO it's useless for any of the tracks I race on and I retired my Pro two years ago when the Kyosho MP777 came out.

hey all, Im a noob to this but after doing some research I picked up a 9.5 Violator RTR. I put a stronger steering servo in it and a Spektrum radio. Im gonna be racing at the local track once I get some practice with it. Anyone who owns one, any necessary mods besides what Ive done so far? Any tips?
Oh, if Im not in the right section let me know where to post. I figure I belong here since its a 9.5 but if Im wrong let me know. thx.

Just replace the parts you break while racing but there shouldn't be much breakage. These are strong buggies. Have fun and forget about upgrading until you can replace a broken part with an upgraded part.

has anyone made the stance on the 9.5 narrower to comply with race rules? It looks easy but will I need to get shorter dogbones? It looks like they will be too long if I just cut it.

Yes, occasionally.

Has anyone narrowed the width on the Violator down to 310mm? OFNA says to just cut the arms down to the inside hole, but it looks like the axles will be too long. Do I need to replace those too?

I just received my Ofna 9.5 Violator, I heard that the 9.5 pro hop-ups can be used on this buggy, does anybody know if this is true?

Yes, if you can find them. Most will work.
