View Full Version : Ofna 9.5 Pro

Just got one last night and after owning a Hyper 7 Pro I must say it is at least as good if not better at least on a few small things. I sold my hyper 7 pro because I wanted to build a Monster truck hybrid but figured out it would be too expensive and to much work for it. So since I was at the hobby shop I got the 9.5 pro for $399.99 . So far I like the wingmount better because its thicker and stronger. The shocks are nicer and the shafts are thicker. The pipe is better and the coupler is better. The gears are almost exactly the same as the Hyper 7. Only bad thing so far is one of the spider gears has a huge bur to where there is almost one tooth is missing. Other than that it is very similar . I must say the plastic seems better and stiffer but I will have to drive it to find out. I will post pics when finished.

I went to Ofna and they gave me a new set of spider gears no questions asked. Drove one tank throught it and it is awesome . Great acceleration, top end everything. The treaded shocks rule quick adjustments. I think it jump a little flatter than my old Hyper 7 too . Bth are great buggys but I think the 9.5 is a little better, especiallly a little more steering and the breaking is incredible. I will try to post some pics tonight.

I actually have only driven it for 5 tanks because I have had lots of stuff going on . I also got a Micro RS4 which I have been playing with. I will try to post some pics tomorrow . It is really nice.

Sorry tarvymoto, I always forget until I read it here to post pics. I will try to remember for you.
Does anyone know why the rear chassis brace has an oblongated hole where it attaches to the wingmount? It gives it about 1/16th of an inch of movement. Is it so if you take a really hard crash it flexes instead of bending the chassis?
ofnaman
04-03-2002, 02:35 PM
I called Ofna and they said it alows the chassis to flex a little instead of just bending.

Yep ,I go to either Ultimate Hobbirs in Orange or Nitro House in Aliso Hills. It came with All cerbon fiber stuff, all aluminum,Full CVD's,turnbucles,Pipe and Case for $395.

I like the pic man but I will be ordering it tomorrow and the reason why I'm getting an ofna I because my lhs carries parts for ofna buggys but they don't have the 9.5 and parts yet so I'm ordering it because I can't wait I hope its like you say it is because I can't wait to get it :D

is the pipe any good and have you heard of turnbuckles breaking because I seen it in the rc car action buggy battle they said that they broke a couple turnbuckles and I was wondering if any one else has broken any turnbuckles
tarvymoto
04-05-2002, 09:31 AM
I don't have one but I know that the 9.5 used in the battle was a pre-production car. I believe new plastic and turnbuckles are on the final version. Also the final version has all the woven graphite stuff on it , the test version had all aluminum.
ofnaman
04-05-2002, 11:25 AM
I comes with carbon fiber and aluminum. You can set it up either way you want. I have not broken anything yet on it . MY friend got one a couple of days ago and he is going to race it 2 times this weekend.

hardcoretmaxx

I would say the hyper 7 pro because you can get parts easier that's what I'm doing and maybe I will get the 9.5 pro for christmas
crazy9.5driver
04-09-2002, 07:52 PM
If ur L.H.S. can get hyper 7 parts they should be able to get 9.5 parts just as easy. They r pretty close to the same thing.I bought the 9.5 pro because it looked nicer and it was. 9.5 has has threaded shock bodies. That alone(in my opion) makes it better then the hyper.
Dont know about hyper 7 but my 9.5 pro come with a pipe and header( aint that good but great for a spare), fuel bottle, body scissors and a cool carrying bag that fits 2 cars.
hardcoretmaxx
04-09-2002, 07:57 PM
my lhs doesn't carry parts yet they can't even get It but they will get it latter along with the parts so I will get one latter but for know I'm getting a hyper 7 pro with cnc knuckles

Ignoring the spare parts thing...What are all of your opinions based upon what each kit includes on and off the buggy, and also the performance differences between each?
CTRallyRacer2
04-10-2002, 08:14 AM
On kit level quality, does the 9.5Pro compare well to the Mugen MBX and the Kyosho 7.5?
ofnaman
04-10-2002, 09:36 AM
Every time I go to the track all the kyosho and mugen guy cant believe it came with everything. My friend got one too and he has had a mugen and a kyosho and he said that it handles as good . He races more than I do and is better at tunning. Im a once in a while racer. I work right by Ofna and Nitro house so parts arent a problem for me. I have had both the Hyper 7 pro and now the
9.5 pro .Both are really nice buggys but in my opinion I think the 9.5 is more durable and has a few more little things that are nicer. Either way you cant go wrong though.

I just called my lhs and asked them again when they were going to get the 9.5 pro and they said some time this month and I asked them if they are going to carry parts for it and they said yes but not right a way about a month or two after they get it so what do you guys think get one or get the hyper 7 pro but the thing I really like about the 9.5 pro I the blue stuf, the carbon fiber and the threaded shock bodies but if you say the 9.5 is more durable then I will have to get one just one more thing do you have any better pics of it with better lighting or better yet a video

hardcoretmaxx

the hyper 7 pro is $439.99 at www.ace-hobbies.com and the 9.5 pro is $400 at www.nitrohouse.com but you will have to call because it is not on there web site
so what do you guys think should I get the 9.5 pro

AEAddict
04-11-2002, 07:38 PM
The 7 costs more because it's better.
It has a center torsen, better wheels (not tires), I like the purple better (personally), and it's all Graphite Decks. The 9.5 is like an exact copy of the 7.. without the graphite and the purple.
It's got different shocks.. but I personally hate bustin out the caliper to measure! Clip-on spacers take out the guess work and you get EXACT SAME SIZES where you want them...
I dunno.. I almost bought a 9.5 ... but all's I can say is have fun finding its parts.
Also.. my Diffs are stupidly strong. Ho Bao makes really good cars (never owned a Hong Nor one!)

hay what do you think a 9.5 pro or a hyper 7 pro with cnc steering knuckles
Scott H.
04-11-2002, 09:26 PM
I've been running the heck out of my H7 Pro with the V01b as well.
This thing is flat nasty-fast! Awesome on a short tight course, but I'd gear up for a long course. I had to add some expo into the throttle to keep things hooked up. I'm topping out about 80' into a 100' straight with stock gearing. The brakes are so good I can hold it on to the last 10'. I've had no clutch fade issues, or any other "non-self inflicted" failures.
here is a shot of the throttle return spring setup I use.
hardcoretmaxx
04-11-2002, 10:04 PM
what do you mean,"I'm topping out about 80' into a 100' straight with stock gearing". if you mean mph then you are crasy a buggy with stock gearing go 80 to 100 mph you are a little of if you ask me
Scott H.
04-11-2002, 10:17 PM
No, no, no!
It hits top speed in ~80' (that stands for aproximately 80 feet). If I were to guess I'd say the speed is somewhere between 35 & 40 mph. But I have no way to really tell.
To be honest I could care less what the top speed is. Just so long as I don't get passed on the straights :D My focus is on smooth fast lap times with no help from the corner marshals.
Scott H.
AEAddict
04-11-2002, 10:18 PM

I just ordered a 9.5 PRO and I can't wait to get it. I picked it over the H7 because it sounded to be "beefier" and it was less expensive than the H7 PRO (I paid $411.95 including shipping to Michigan from Nitro House). I kind of ordered blindly not knowing exactly what comes with the kit. Does it come with diff and shock fluid? Would you recommend using what they give? Any building tips? I can't wait! I will be out of town for a week, so the buggy should be home when I get back!
ofnaman
04-22-2002, 11:16 AM
It comes with 3000wt diff fluid and shock oil but noy sure of the wt. I got mine from the same place. I would suggest doing
3000 front,7000 center,1000 rear or 7000 front,10000 center, and 3000 rear. I drilled out my shock pistons and am using 30wt front and rear with the black springs. You will like all the extra stuff it comes with.

I ran the Kanai with an s7 worlds. A good friend of mine runs for OFNA, and he convinced me to make the switch. Right off the bat, it seems to go together faster than the 7.5. Im going to go with a modified V01 in this one. We'll see how it turns out... should be pretty good...

$150 on a motor?? If you want to RACE, you're going to be spending close to 300 if you want to run with expert class guys. If you want to race and be competive, it is usually not a good idea to buy a RTR. RTR's are usualy made just to bash around. Any experenced 8th scale racer will tell you that it costs $$$money$$$ to even keep up with the 'big dogs'. Disagree if you will, but try racing a RTR against guys like Degani....

I couldnt tell you exaclty what is done to my motors, i give them to my 'motor man' and hetakes care of the rest. All i know is that my motors run longer and faster. I can race the doors off these things, but wouldnt even think about doing any mods to them myself.

The RTR's would be great for you. The RTR cars have done such a great job of getting new people into our hobby. What i dont understand are the people who come into my store (Hobby People), and the first thing out of their mouth is "i want the fastest car you guys have"........ Speed comes with skill... what good is the speed if these guys dont even know the basics of RC Cars.... does this make sense to anyone?, hopeflly it came out the right way.

Hi,
How long you had it? I heard some people saying that 9.5 pro have some diff/gear issues. Do you have that problems?
Where did you get it and how much you paid?
I was just wondering is the picutre below are 9.5 pro?

yes that’s the right pic of the kit I haven't heard any problems with the new 9.5 pro and I haven’t had one problem with it yet I have had it for 1 month but have 1 ½ gallons through it and haven't broke a thing except a steering horn that like $ .55 and that all this thing is tough

Well, I just joined the club! I ordered my 9.5 last night and I should have it by the end of next week!
I had planned to get a Mugen XR but it's $70 more without a pipe and header. Also I've heard that even though the Mugen is a sweet buggy, it needs a few things right off - like expensive big bore shocks!
So, I went with the Ofna. It really seems like a sweet buggy. I will read through this entire thread as soon as I have time.
I will be racing against every high end buggy out there. My group gets together every Thursday night and there are Kanais, Mugens and plenty of Storms. As of right now, I'll have the only 9.5 there... I hope I can hang with the pack ;)

OK, I hope to have the 9.5 by the end of the week, and as a Father's Day present to myself, I plan to put a few hours into the build on Sunday ;)
I've ordered an OS RZ-VO1B (whoooo hooooo!!!!) and I have some nice servos to put in; Hitec 5925 for steering and a 5625 for throttle/brake.
I'd like to know a good starting set up for the buggy. I will be running on fairly rough tracks, nothing brutal but certainly not smooth. I have lots of oils laying around - I have 30, 35, and 40wt shock oils and I have 1000, 5000, 7000 and 10000wt diff oils. What do you all suggest to fill up the diffs and shocks with? It's probably a pipe dream, but I'd love to show up with the 9.5 for it's first race night and do a little damage to some Mugens and Kyoshos!!! :D
thanks

BUt i was wondeirng...duz the 9.5 even fit in the carrying case? all the box's i've seen have been fairly narrow...like..10 inches or so...buggys are usually over a foot wide...so...seems like it wouldn't fit...does it?

heh...surprised tho...something 13.5 inches or so in a 10 inch holder...are the suspension arms going up? is it on an angle? or it just go straight in? hehe...cool!
I'm wondering if they (OFNA) did anything different with the diffs on the 9.5.
I have a Worlds 2 that I would love to convert into a 9.5 Pro if it is possible. If not then I might just buy a Kanai 2 (my brother has a Kanai 1 and this will make him green with envy!). I'm wondering how interchangeable the parts are between the Worlds 2 and the 9.5.

PCC - you should have a peek here (http://www.cmc-versand.de/bilder/08/8-31271.jpg)
You may have already seen it, but it shows the accessories the Kanai 2 has over the Kanai, or Regular MP7.5.
IMO, there isn't very much at all, nice shocks, but not worth a huge pricerise. Personally, I would look at the price difference of getting a Kanai 1 and converting, and getting an outright K2. Get the cheaper option.
I am also a fan of seeing people turning green with envy, I cant wait to see one of my friends' face when I get a 7.5. (he has a stock TR15!)

Sorry its dirty but i just raced yesturday.Oh and by the way this car is bullet proof.I dont care what anyone tells you my car is proof.I cartwheeled it down the straightaway a fews time and didnt break a think, and trust me if there is a weak spot on the car i could find it during a race lol.The only problem i have had with it was the steering knuckles but that was my fault beacuse i tighten them way to much. And one more thing the car is fast.Fast as any of the other top buggies, and handles great too.

Well, I'm looking to get a 1/8th buggy and need your guys help.
I am looking at the OFNA 9.5(both rtr and kit) and the Kyosho Inferno MP-7.5 Sport. I can get both the kits pretty cheap(MP7.5 for about $400 and the 9.5 for about $410), I'm looking at getting the 9.5(I havr seen them run at our local track and they seem pretty tough) more right now. I already have a radio and will get a nice servo for steering. But I do not know which kit to get. I will be pretty much racing it at my local track. I have 2 nitro's right now, so I know how to run and maintain a nitro. So, what do you guys think I should get? Thanks

Well considering you are on the 9.5 page.I think you should get the 9.5 lol.But you might get a diff. answer on the 7.5 page.
But seriously,i think the 7.5 sport is rtr? am i right or no. If it is then dont get it.RTR are junk( all rtr not just kyosho) ,the are more for bashing then racing. The engines they come with will get blown away at most any track.Im not sure if you were worried about price, but if you are not then get a 9.5 pro and buy a desent engine. It will cost a bit more but will be worth it when you see it on the track.

I guess it depends on what the track surface is like. Our track is really dry and loose.Almost everyone at my track runs crime fighters.i love mine and so far they seem to be lasting.I have 4 weekends on them.I tried dirty harrys and didnt really care for them. They didnt seem to hook up 4 me.

Yes I find crime fighters the best and I run on the same track as crazy9.5driver and the wear is very little after 4 weekends of racing plus some practising at the track. Cosmic tires work well in my dads car when they are turned around and they last a long time also. But our track is very rutted up and sometimes loose.
The best thing to do is go to your local track and see what everyone is running thats what I did and it worked.

I have a project I'm working on, and the last thing I need is to find is some 4wd steering uprights and knuckles that fit. I'd like to use the stock arm, shown below. The 3/4" (19mm) measurement is from the pin that mounts the upright. The width of the opening is 5/8" (15mm) . Sorry the picture's a little hard to make out.
http://pic5.picturetrail.com:80/VOL81/618619/1099421/12757010.jpg
I machined two custom arms from aluminum that increase the stock 5/8" opening to 3/4", and I'm not sure how much deeper the opening is. I tried Duratrax Axis uprights and arms, but I may get binding, as well as rubbing on the shocks.
It looks like the Ofna 9.5 parts might work, but I don't have access to any parts to measure. It would be a huge help if someone could measure their Ofna parts for me, to let me know if they'll work.
If at all possible, I'd really like to find parts that fit the stock arm shown here. The aluminum I used makes the front too heavy, and it's not a terribly strong grade. If you have any info on parts that will fit either arm, please post it here or email me at timba28@yahoo.com. Thanks a lot,
Tim

WHITESTER1 - I just built one a few weeks ago, it was pretty easy, just count the screws in the bag to find out what goes where. The instructions don't show the countersunk screw / washer combo that this kit uses a lot of. Just go with whatever is close.
The only thing that didn't fit perfectly was the electronics housing. The holes didn't line up with the chassis holes very well, I had to start all 4 screws, then take them all 1/2 way, then tighten them all down. It is fine though. better than any Ofna I've ever put together.

You know, I have to say that this kit has been the easiest and most enjoyabe kit to put together that i have ever bought! After building and racing my older OFNA car, i noticed that every flaw that i saw with my old car was fixed or changed in the 9.5. I cant wait to race it!
I havent really read though this thread yet, but i had lots of diff problems last season with my old OFNA car. Because of this i spent a lot of time making sure i got the 9.5's perfect. If anyone is having problems with getting smooth mesh use this shim setup:
One big shim behind the big gear inside the case, no small shims on the smaller gears, and the two big shims behind the big gear right on the bevel/spur gear.
I spent a good couple of hours testing all different shim combos, and this seemed to work the best.

I won't be doing any serious racing....basically backyard bashing and running it at a local track now and then. I do like the option of upgrading the car to "Pro" versio status at a later date if I ever get biten by the racing bug.
Is the 9.5 RTR a good option for me? I'm mostly concerned about reliabilty of the car and engine, I've never owned a OFNA car before.

well i decide on getting the 9.5 after all it is the rtr version but im happy with my decision.Just wanted everyone to know that if you get a RTR version now they come with a .25 engine instead(at least Ace hardware is selling them this way) and they come with almost everything you need to get started except fuel and a glow plug wrench and batteries.you do got to trim the body abit but it is done up nicley and looks good to. I think that OFNA is listening to us or something because all the screws the I check were extreamly tight and had a blue substance that i would imagine is locktite.needless to say i took some out and redid them to make sure.checl all the postions of the shocks as one of mine was not in the same hole as the other one but the buggy was setup exactly the same as jay halsey on 1/9/02.and all the shocks had oil in them except one was a little low so i filled it back up and well ill post pictures after a while and let you all know how it is going with it. until later CYA

Well it looks like I'm the only one in here that will post in this topic.I know i dont have a pro version but it is a 9.5 and well I broke in the engine yesterday almost. I ran 4 tanks at idle and then 3 putting it around the local track and then 3 tanks with it being slow to mid range.but by the time I was going to start to lean it out with the help of a friend it was race time and we had to clear the track.I will say this that the ofna .25 engine is a Witch to break in.skinned 3 knuckles yesterday on the pull starter and have decided to go buy a starter box after using my friends for a while its a well worth it investment.i can say this for the buggy my friend has a crono and a mp7 kiani 2 edition and he said that it will probably keep up with his kyosho NP but his crono will blow it away but he did state that it does handle very well for being completely stock. he said with the right tires and with some spring and shock oil changes that it will be a very competitive vehicle to race and well he sold one to a kid next to me after he drove mine around the track once.so it cant be that bad and well my first impressions of it are just WOW!!!! the only thing that I have done is switched out the steering servo and added 20% blue thunder nitro to it and well adjusted the brakes a little to help the rear lockup first befor the front brakes do.ill keep anyone posted if they want to informed about anything on the RTR version.good luck in your racing

Nicely done website. Your track looks pretty nice! Unfortunately for me, we dont have an indoor trck here in Western NY. However one is in the works! In the summer we race at an outdoor track which is also called full throttle.. lol. I laughed when i saw your link and had to double check your location.. I thought mabye the track owners around here had built something and not told me for a sec! haha. Anyways, there is a placed a few of us from around here go to in columbus that has an indoor clay track. Pretty much everyone there runs a specailly made tire you may want to try to make. They take a losi tper pin 1/10th scale truck tire and cut it to work on an 1/8th scale rim. You may want to check their website for a procedure on how to make 'em. Down there they swear by them. You may want to check em out! www.crcrc.com

FYI, I've been paying close attention to your posts concerning your 9.5 RTR. It's been helpful and it's appericated from this end. I'm currently looking to get back in R/C after a 15 year layoff. I want to jump back into it with 1/8 scale gas....the whole electric thing just doesn't do it for me.
I've been up in the air about which car to get over the past month. I do want to get a Ofna car because I work very close by their US Office/Nitrohouse.com so getting parts shouldn't be much of a problem for me. I've boiled my choices down to the 9.5 Pro/RTR or the Hyper 7 Pro/RTR, maybe even a monster truck like the Dominator.
I noticed that you are running a .25 and not the box stock .21 Force that comes with the RTR kit, is it possible to give me a idea what kinda performance to expect from the stock .21? I need something to learn on and would upgrade the engine at a later time. And what are the differences between the Pro and RTR, 9.5?
The only difference I know of so far is the additional graphite peices included in the Pro kit, which I'm not really concerned about at this time.
Thanks for all the info so far and keep in updating the progress of your car, it doesn't go unnoticed.

i just bought a 9.5 pro about a month ago and this thing rocks. i matched it up with an os rz o1 and run 30% blue thunder. it handles very well with a set up i got off jammin racing site(they sponsor most of the ofna drivers also). for bumpy tracks i like the heavier set up though.

SoCAPhun: All the new 9.5 RTR include the .25 now instead of the .21.I called to complain to ofna and if you dont like it then they said that they will extange for no cost other then shipping.Well as for speed all I can say is that its faster then a guy at my track with a .12 novarossi engine but slower then a good racing .21 engine .It has alot of torque in it and keep up on a tight track no problems at all but the top end kinda sucks about id say 5-10mph slower then my friends .21 collari engine.but he also runs 30% nitro and I run 20% nitro through mine.
As for the differnt kits 9.5 and the hyper.Well i can tell you this about Ofna the directions have alot to be desired to be honest with you.Ofna is suppose to be releasing a new hyper 7 kit that will included a new 8 port hyper .21 engine that will not be pull start and will be ready to run including a rumored starter box also and have a mbx suspension setup.also the 9.5 has a mbx version if you like that style of front end also.the differnces between the 9.5 rtr and the pro i think are the pro includes both type of suspensions and additional anti squat plates all cva's,graphite and aluminum shock towers, wing stay post, radio tray post and ball bearing steering. To be honest with you I love my rtr but i wish i would have bought the pro version.because you will want to upgrade some of the things that is included in the pro kit and the cost would have been the same dang near for the things i want to get.oh well live and learn right.if you need anything else let me know

Thanks for the response back.
Your another person that suggested getting the Pro version right off the bat, rather then the RTR. Personally, i'd much rather build a car then just opening a box and trusting the poor-old 10-year kid over seas that built for $1/day did it right the first time.
I'll think I'll go that route and get the Pro version. But I've been hearing alot about the Hyper 7 with Hyper 8-port combo. From my understanding, the 8-port is supposed to be a really decent engine in terms of power and performance at a rock-bottom price...there is a LHS that sells them for $120.00. This is also another possibility. Do you have idea how the Hyper Pro stands up against the 9.5?
The 9.5 is supposed to be Ofna flagship model, but from what I can tell, Ofna treats both the same by marketing them as top-dawg race buggies and have about the same options.
Hmmmm...choices I gotta make!!!

SoCAPhun,
both of the cars are made by two differnt car makers one is made by haboo and one is made by hung nor.both are imported here and is ditrubuted by Ofna racing.
this is a article that made me decide on the 9.5 from rcnitro http://www.rccaraction.com/articles/ofna95.asp it talks about the hyper also. hope this helps
I also got the 9.5 because of the treaded shocks and that cool factor that goes with it.i was wishing that it came with the .21 so i could race it but after seeing what a sport engine and a racing engine can do im glad i got the .25 instead and the guys at my track dont care if im running a .25 because they know they can beat me on the long streight aways and give them a run for there money on the tight parts of the course.
As for costs though I would get the new rtr version of the hyper if it included the starter box and the new 8 port .21 engine. If not then well I'd get the pro version of what ever one I like the looks of the most.

I haven't had any luck running my 9.5 as of yet. It is brand new, and I have only run a few tanks thru it. Was having engine problems, I new it was time for a rebuild, but I thought I could atleast keep it running for a few quailifiers. I don't bash my vehicles, I just race them. Being in the Northeastern part of the US, our outdoor season is well over. The closest indoor offroad is 5 hours away, so I only make it once a month. I plan on running the 9.5 the weekend of Thanksgiving.

Hmmmm...choices I gotta make!!!
I currently have both buggies. I raced the Hyper 7 Pro the entire outdoor season this past year. The buggy was great! It jumps like no other buggy I have ever driven. The response in the air was amazing. It was very durable, I only broke 1 part all year long, it was a shock shaft, and it was my fault the shaft broke. I ran the buggy with an OS '01. It accellerated great, and had good top speed. I used the stock pipe and header. I lost a few screws here and there, mostly due to my fault of not properly checking them all before a race. I ran on some very rough tracks, with some massive jumps.
Things I didn't like... PURPLE!!! The color purple is my least liked color. So I stripped the purple, and had it re-anodized BLUE! The break linkage.. terrible design, hard to adjust quickly. I hate to admit it, but the Kyosho break linkage is by far the best. The body... to low of a roof line. It would push down the OS air filter and cause the foam to push in so much that it would allow dirt to pass the outside plastic cover. The front steering knuckles... early on kits the knuckles weren't machined right, and the screws stripped out easily... I fixed that problem with the Kyoshos standard front knuckles... 12.99
I have yet to race the 9.5. It still sits brand new with only a few laps around the track. It seems nice and acellerated harder than the Hyper 7 Pro. Once I have a few races under my belt with it, I will give you my opinion. I do know that I like the threaded shocks, and the chassis. I don't like the throttle linkage.. it looks very flimsy with all off the 2mm screws that you are supposed to use. I just don't trust those little screws. I'm thinking about changing the whole linkage.

I haven't had problem with that thankfully but I have had a problem with the front drive coupling that goes from the center diff to the front one.I know that there is a flat spot on it and I have used loctite on it and wrenched on it big time and no its not stripped and made sure the bearing is pushed in all the way but after about 10 runs it comes loose so I'm going to install the cva's as soon as I can gather the money up.but other then that no problems other then have had to take car dang near apart to reloctite everything from the factory.but love it I just need a more powerful engine to keep up with my buddies collari engine that all.so I'm looking into the ws7 from RB

To be honest with you the ofna the kyosho and the gs storm and mugen are all capable of winning at any given race.what I would do if I was you is to goto the local hobby shop and see what they stock parts for.If all of them then look for what is cheaper in replacement parts or hop ups and so forth or just pick out what looks the best. personally I love my 9.5. I would go with the 9.5 pro though if I had to do it again.not that the rtr is not bad or anything but youll want to upgrade the engine fast if you want to be competitive against others.

I know a few people with the Hyper 7, including myself, had to tighten the screw in the lid to help the gasket seal better. I have even heard that some replaced the seal all together to correct the leakage. I dont know if it is the same with the 9.5 but you could check.

Hey i think my engine just got done fully breaking in on the last tank ran.The reason why i say this is because I was running the temps around 260-270F and was not getting much power out of it and then yesterday I was running it and the needle was the same as last week and i could not get the thing to run over 195F go figure but better performance then last week and then I leaned it out to raise the temps up to 220 and all my god this thing is fast .now i can keep up with my friends collari almost.
I was in the middle of a tank of fuel on the back streight away and all of a sudden got a burst of speed so i brought it in thinking that the tank was almost empty and that i needed to refuel it but low and behold i still had 1/2 tank left and temps were way down compared to last lap.is this normal when a engine breaks in fully?or is it about to blow the engine?

I hate to burst your bubble but the 9.5 rtr is now shipping with the .25 force engine as of mid October Ofna said the reason why i know this is because when i got mine i witched to them about it and they told me that all new kits in october on will have them included.but oh well its nice once it is broken in just takes a long time to do so 1/2 gallon and all of a sudden boom got instant power gain like someone flipped a switch or something
morfracerX
11-26-2002, 12:15 PM
About your motor, you don't want to run a .21 at anything less then 200. When running at that low of a temp you can cause extra wear on the sleeve and piston. Some of the .21 I have had did take as long as their first gallon to become fully broken in and really start showing their power. I had an OS RX-B that didn't peak until 1.5 galloons. Anyway it's a good idea to try and keep your temp around 255-270
.

yeah i got ya on the temp thing.what i was trying to say is that my engine temps were at @ 265F and then all of a sudden dropped to like @195F and no needle changes at all or temp changes and I had to lean it out quite a bit to get it to run at @220F.( dont worry didnt lean out to much hobby shop made sure of that for me)Im going to drive it on sunday at the local track again and see how it goes this time but i can tell you this im starting to think twice about buying another engine to go faster if this thing runs like it did last week.lets hope it does because thats what speed i wanted out of this thing in the first place just didn't know it took so long to break in one of these motors thats all .i thought 15 tanks would be more then enough to break it in.oh well live and learn right.

I've read a lot about that .25 cause I am thinking about getting one for my monster poirate/dom and my 9.5. From what I have read that temp drop was caused by the piston loosening up, the high temps before where due to a lot of extra friction. Now with the motor breaking in the friction is drooping with the temp going right along with it. keep me updated you get to be my ***** pig. lol j/k.

Dusted you must be running 27 MHz like me, that is the MHz that most RTR's come with. I found out the hard way when rod (hotrod hobbies owner) told me. You can fix this buy dropping by radio shack and picking up the 40 CB crystals (I think it's 40 band) that should help with the radio.
As for the kid i would have cut him no questions asked lol j/k. well one good thing you got to see how fast you .25 could go and you now have a great reason to upgrade parts.
