I recently aquired a Pro2 sport, and am experiencing one huge problem.
I am using a Reedy Kryptonite 13X2, and when it is mounted up, the motor hits the belt and causes it to become un aligned. Apart from the belt being "bent", it has contact with the motor, and has a huge drag effect. Same as the front belt, but not nearly as severe. Is this motor can just too large?
I dont know what to do, i have been offroad for 12 years and this is my first onroad, and my first belt car.

Wow nobody has posted here for almost a year! Anyone still running their sport 2's? I bought rally springs and tires, so I change it back and fourth, its like a warewolf, but a warerally. But mine still runs great. I couldnt bother to read through 11 pages of text, and I bet there are some new ones, so what are the best hop-ups fot the sport 2? I hope there are still a few loyal sport 2er's.

Sorry to post again, but does anyone know if rs4 rally parts are interchangeable with the sport 2? I have just aquired quite a few parts fot the rally.
The Rally and the original Sport are based on the same car while the Sport2 is based on a longer version of the same design. They did this to straighten out the rear drive dogbones to make the drivetrain more efficient.
So, on the Sport2, the chassis, upper deck, and front belt are all longer. Putting the Rally suspension onto a Sport2 results in either a shorter wheelbase or a longer wheelbase, depending if you place the rear suspension arms facing forwards or backwards. This is as much as 10mm either way. The Rally suspension is 5mm longer per side: the Sport and Sport2 are both 190mm wide while the Rally is 200mm wide. The underbody is not a direct fit to the Sport2 and will require modifications to make fit.
The parts that are the same are the front bulkhead, rear bulkhead to the front bulkhead mount, top shaft, stickpack battery holders, and rear wheel uprights (AKA knuckles). Almost everything else is different. I can't recall if the Sport2 has gear diffs or balldiffs. If it has gear diffs then they're the same, too.

Thanks, I actually just cut up the rally inner-body a little to make it fit. So any ideas on the best/strongest upgrades?

Yep I still have mine and run it :D . I just ordered some new parts for it from Tower Hobbies. And I thought that I was the only one with a sport 2 who still drives it. :D

I think sport 2 is a great car to buy for beginners and to eventually modify... good for practicing driving skills and drifting ... i still have mine and are preparing it for some winter indoors racing.
By anychance any of you know what tire is best for carpet?

Still got my sport 2. Haven't run it in probably 2-3 years. Carved it up pretty good last xmas trying to make a very crude 540 powered mini-t. Lolz. Still have it sitting its original box under my bed. Think I might have a look around for a parts pro2 and get her back running again.

anyone can help me out with a drift setup for the sport 2...im planning on buying those new hpi drift wheels :D
those yokomo drift r/c make me want to make my r/c drift so badly...why cant hpi come out with a conversion thats works with most of their models...drifting is getting too popular not to in the near future

Yes, drifting is fun, I just got into it with my sport 2.
What upgrades do you have on your car right now? For suspension I am using 40wt shock oil all around. For springs you want stiff in the front and softer in the rear, but I am not exactly sure on that.
What motor are you running? If you are using a higher turn motor like me(around 15 turns to 8 or 9 turns) than I would suggest drift radials, they have more traction than PVC or ABS. The drift radials take a little more skill to master like counter steering and various throttle and brake manuvers, but in my opinion the drifts look alot better.
Right now I have some Pit Shimizu drift radials but I am going to get the new HPI ones : http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMRD5&P=7 ........unfortunately Tower Hobbies doesn't have them in stock yet.
Any other questions I will be happy to answer!
well im gonna try to upload some pics of my current setup so you can tell what i need to do to make it drift :) :D
here is my current setup (no mods towards drifting whatsoever) any suggestions

Alright so it is basically stock.
What motor are you running?
What all do you want to do with it? Are you just looking for a good drift setup?
Once you have your tires, I would start with the suspension. Depending on the surface you will want different shock/spring setups. Like I said stiff springs in the front and softer or medium springs in the rear(this is good for an un-prepared surface such as parking lots, like what I run on, it will limit the amount of "hop" in the rear of the car). Try using a good 40wt or 45wt silicone shock oil all around.
Also I haven't gotten these sway bars yet but they will probably be my next hop-up......http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXM521&P=7 ......
Most of the time you will have to just try certain things and see what works best.
thanks ill find out the motor once i pop it of the car....i plan to both drift and grip drive(normal driving) with it...so i need shocks, tires, and sway bars anything else...does it need to become lighter or no?Thanks again Bunsincunsin for the help :D

Yeah, I do both drift and grip with the same setup aswell.
I saw another thread of yours where you said you were going to make a speed project aswell. I am not sure if you are still going to do this or not. But there are a few hop-ups to make it a little lighter. Like all of the carbon fiber parts, upper deck, main chassis, belt tensioner, front and rear shock towers. But these parts are optional. Also most of these parts are harder to find since the Sport 2 is discontinued, but I found a place that has all of them.
Here it is......http://www.sheldonshobbies.com/listing/hpi39.html .....you just go down the list and check off what you want.
Also look around on ebay, search for hpi sport 2, hpi pro 2 and hpi pro2.
Any other questions or concerns?

I would take a look at this if you like the look of carbon fiber parts.... :D
It is a killer deal for a $15-$16 part.

thanks so much for the link...people have been telling me its going to be nearly impossible for me to hop up my sport 2 :)

Why? Because parts are hard to find? You just have to keep an eye out for stuff on ebay and different sites!
It's good to here that some one else is still running a Sport 2, I was starting to get lonely.......... :(
Here are some more recent pics of my Sport 2 and drifter body.......

In those pictures I just have wheels on with no tires because I am waiting for Tower Hobbies to get HPI's new drift radials in stock. But right now I am running Pit Shimizu drift radials. They work really good with the Orion 9 turn motor I have.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e87/Bunsincunsin/ps0405.jpg
what type of tires should i get cuz ive been told not to get the drift radials and get the yokomo drift wheels
also should i continue running my stock motor or should i move up?
Bunsincunsin
06-09-2006, 07:22 PM
well for higher turn motors drift radials are good because they have more traction than anything else.
what turn motor are you using?
If you have around a 20 turn motor than maybe try using the hpi stage d slick drift tires or the yokomo drit tires.

also should i continue running my stock motor or should i move up?
Well depending on how fast you want to go than yes. And probably batteries aswell to increase run times.
If you upgrade your motor than you might also have to upgrade your esc. What esc are you running and how many turns can it handle?
im currently running a novak explorer...should i move up to a yokomo drift motor and batteries?

Sure, if those are the ones you like or can afford.
but will a modified motor and yokomo drift motor have the same benefits or differ?
but will a modified motor and yokomo drift motor have the same benefits or differ?
do yokomo tires require gluing even though they have rings?
what the difference between a stock motor and modified motor...are they harder to maintain?

but will a modified motor and yokomo drift motor have the same benefits or differ?
They will differ, and will also take different techniques to master drifting and they will also take different setups.
do yokomo tires require gluing even though they have rings?
The rings do not need to be glued, but the tires themselves I am not sure.
whats the difference between a stock motor and modified motor...are they harder to maintain?
Modified motors run at higher rpm's than stock motors. They are also alot faster than stock motors. But modified motors need a little more maitinence.
Are you looking to get a new motor? Is there anything specific you are looking for?
yeah im looking to get a new motor something less than 20 turns...like a yokomo drift motor

Are you having problems accessing the home page here????? Well, I am and it sucks!!!
Anyways, that sounds good. Team Orion also has some drift motors, in various turns. I think the lowest they have is an 11 turn, they also have 17 and 19 turns aswell I believe.

Actually they just have 11 and 18 turn drift motors. They look like very nice motors, maybe look into the 18 turn.
Here is the link.

I think the 11 turn motor will be my next for drifting!
