So are we talking the old gold tub RC10 here, or just the original design in general? I still have my RC10 Graphite that I bought back in 1990. It was the first serious RC that I ever had. The thing's been modded so much with parts such as Stealth tranny, composite arms, hard-anodized shocks, etc. that the only stock part now is the chassis. I've run it on the track a few times this year. Even though I have a B3 that I race instead, the sentimental value just won't allow me to part with it.

yeah, my original gold tub car circa 1984 is hardly original! i think the a-arms and hub carriers are the only original parts on it. it is still very fast, and even competitive!

MTN BKR - I still have one of those new in the box. I remember this version well because I tested the TQ10 from Horizon Hobby (which was baically an RC10) for the magazine years ago. I thought, "wow, cool car with 2-inch wheels and tires in the box, new body, and a graphite chassis." Then, just a few months later, Associated comes out with their RC10 Graphite, and it's got the new long arm suspension in addition to everything else the TQ10 had. The TQ10 basically fell off the face of the earth at that point.

I remember the TQ10. I still have the old issues with track reports on both that car and the RC10 Graphite. I don't think I've ever talked to or met anyone who ever owned one of those TQ10s. You ever come across any?

Anybody out there remember the transmission from MIP that we would modify to fit RC10 in like the early/mid 80s? I am trying to locate a case for one. I wonder if the Stealth Transmission case would work.

steve, i remember when the tq-10 came out it was about the same time the original jrx-2 came out. i ended up buying the jrx-2 and have been a losi addict ever since. i have almost every car they ever made including a jrx-2 and jrx-t still sealed in the box! and original rc-10 just sold on e-bay this week for $200 still sealed in the box! i am so pissed i missed it! it went via a buy it now! i almose have a perfect fully restored original rc-10 but one in the box would have been great!

So has anybody been driving their old RC10s lately? I haven't driven mine since I picked up a B3. I last drove my RC10 around the track about 2 months ago. It handled pretty well except that the rear end didn't stay planted over the bumps very well. Would a slightly heavier shock oil help with this? I'm still learning what effect certain changes have on the handling of a vehicle.

the rc10 is still competitive. i just got back into racing about 6 months ago after about 5 years. so of course i had to bust out an old ride. i ran in novice for about 5 races and swept that. moving up to stock i ran in the top 3. hell i tq'ed. i probably would still be driving it if i didn't buy a B3 for 40 bucks. i actually enjoy running the old car. i like the durability of the old pan cars and they were easier to dial in. i still got 2 of them. maybe there will be a vintage race class for rc10's, jr's, and any other car from the 80's. it should be manditory that all racers wear parachute pants.

Mtn Bkr & Steve P,
Wow! I havent posted here in a long time! Anyway, it just so happens that aside from a Tamiya Rough Rider, the Horizon Hobbies distributed, Team Associated TQ-10 was my first "real" hobby grade R/C. I loved that car and probably wasnt thinking straight when many moons ago I gave it to one of my good friends in an attempt to get him into the hobby, well it worked, but I was out of a car. Thinking I was going never going to see one again, while on my RC-10 hunt (circa 1984-85, which I have two of) I ran across a very, very clean TQ-10 with an instruction manual, You can guess the rest. Here is a picture of it, and another picture (of a polariod) of my original TQ-10 in 1992 with a 1st place novice B-main trophy from the famous Ranch Pit Shop. I was really exicted about finding another one and am looking foward to completing the restoration!:D
And here is the original one. I should have scanned it so I apoligize for the picture quality.

Anthony- I have the AE CD. Which car are you looking for part number for- I can look it up. Also- being new, what is the difference between the TQ-10 and the RC-10? I bought a used RC-10 graphite, but it looks much closer to the pic of the TQ-10 graphite posted a while ago. My chassis is completely smooth, with no logo or embossing. After rebuilding most of the tranny, add CVDs and a lot of E clips it runs with a friends nitro- until he hits second.

Gringo,
The TQ10 and RC10 graphite are very similar. I think the chassis you have is an aftermarket piece. Mine also has the AE logo. Yours is prolly a little wider than mine as well.
P.S. I love mine also. I spend more time w/ ot than my FTB3 and XXXT combined!
Anthony,
Do some shopping around the net for aftermarket units. You can find some ball bearing bellcranks that are super smooth and much more sturdy than the stock ones!...made by Robinson, Hot Trick, and Kimbrough, among others.

Hi all.
I have a origional rc10. I havent used it for years, but now i want to get back into it. The thing is that id really like to do onroad and not offroad, but i dont have the funds to get a onroad only car. Is there a way to make my car atleast decent for onroad? Ive figured atleast tires and rims but which ones can i use? If possible links or sources for this info is greatly appreciated
Also ive been looking around and i was wondering if there is a way to put a differnt body on it? and i know there are other buggy bodies out there but is there any way i can put a car body or something like that on it?
Any input is appreciated

Ok lets ask something different. What are some good mods i can do to it to start out? Suspension wise. Id like to still be able to go offroad, but have the option to go onraod.

Dude, if you want to on-road your RC10, buy the RC10DS conversion kit. They handle pretty well and will work with the 200mm touring bodies out there.
Plus you'll almost have enough parts to build another car, you'd just need a chassis plate, rear arm mounts, tranny and a battery box.
If you can't afford that, just buy a set of 2.0 or 2.2" wheels and Pro-Line Road Hawg tires. Unfortunately the rear engined RC10 isn't too competitive too much rear weight bias so it pushes badly in competition. If you were to build it as a mid-engined ride it might do a little better (just rotate the entire rear end 180 degrees and rotate the battery 90 degrees and add anothre battery box end)
Just some thoughts. I really like my RC10DS, now that I'm running wider the wider RC10 offroad arms on the DS front end it works pretty well just doesn't fit the body anymore so its a big tradeoff.

Thanks Everyone for your help. I just found that DS conversion kit i hadnt know about it until that post by leadfoot. Its just what i was lookin for, too bad its a little much ($130). I could buy a chassis for $20 more then swap over my electronics. deffinatley gonna have to think about it.
fiat22turbo: How does it perfom compared to the newer touring cars? (with similar electronics) Is it possible to switch back to the off-road setup? with some work of course. And of course what chassis mods can be done to it or more simply are there a decent amount of mods for it?
Thanks in advance
fiat22turbo

I actually got my conversion kit for closer to $50-75. The conversion is a complete bolt on so to switch back and forth just requires swapping the rear arms, axles and shock tower/bulkhead and the entire front end assembly.
I modified mine to use the stock wider arms (bolts-on in the rear and some slight mods for the front) That made it handle much better, but the narrow bodies won't fit too well.
They made a 2-speed transmission for the Stealth transmission in the RC10's and MIP used to make a 4WD conversion (MIP 4-10 Legend) kit for the RC10, but it ws meant for the off-road version so it may take a lot of mods to get it to work with the DS, not too mention it was a bit unreliable and parts are hard to come by. MIP makes CVD axles for the DS. the DS uses stock RC10 rear uprights to you can get better bearings for it from RPM, etc.
You can also check on E-bay as there are people selling complete RC10DS cars pretty cheap, not too mention the conversion kits.
The RC10DS is pretty fast in a straight line, but it can't compete with the AWD cars. With a good driver it should do okay, that's the key start out slow and work on driving the car and surviving the race. When I started road racing, everyone had RC10L's or Corally's and I had a Bolink Sport. With practice I was finishing mid pack most of the time, then I upgraded to the RC10L and started finishing in the top 5, then the racing dried up and I went to high school so now I'm so rusty its pathetic.
One of the things that's helped me is to buy a R/C Joystick to practice with on my computer. I especially love playing Re-Volt (acclaim made it a while back) InterAct made the UltraRacer Pro and Traxxas made a true pistol grip radio for the computer. Both help a lot. The Interact stick go for like $5 on eBay and the Traxxas unit was $50.
Good luck and have a gerat 4th!

$50-75? did you get it on ebay? If you didnt where did you if you have a link? Im going to check out my lhs. looked on ebay and your right they do have the DS's really cheap. I couldnt find any conversion kits but im going to keep looking.
Also ive seen a 2speed tranny for the rc10, dont remember if the DS could use it or not. But id imagine so, its for on-road use only.
Its always about the driver. Its been proven with cars and the same applies to rc cars. Thats what i plan to do, drive the car for a while then start to modify it and make it go fast.
Ya i have that game too. Havent played it much. Never really got into it. thanks again

i have been off line for a week... wow... hello nukeith, and fiat22!
i have a ds conversion on one of my rc10s and i must say it handles like a riding lawnmower! but, what the hell, it is better than two plain rc10s.
if you realy want to enjoy your rc10 you should put road hawgs on the buggy and go crazy... maybe even adjust the suspension!
but if you want the conversion kit i have one (nib) i will sell for $50+shipping... or trade!
fiat22turbo
07-05-2002, 02:03 PM
I picked my DS conversion kit from my LHS (Tammies it was probbaly a closeout situation. It unfortunately came with bushings and the 20wt shock oil should be more like 35-40wt. The front shocks use teh same springs as the RC10L pan car so their easy to find.
I'm running silver springs up front which seems to help. it still understeers a bit so the home-built mid-engine conversion may happen sooner than later just gotta get a few bits and pieces. If you can get more of the weight moved towards the front of the car it should handle much better. Basically you take some of the traction from the rear tires to the front.
The only difference in the rear end between the DS and regular RC10 off-roader is the narrower control arms and shorter driveshaft. So all of the mods for the Stealth tranny will work including the 2-speed transmission, direct drive trannys, belt-drive trannys, etc.
You just gotta love how versatile the old RC10 is! MIP makes CVD axles for the DS and RPM makes heavier duty rear hubs with larger bearings and ball bearing steering. RPM also makes stealth tranny's in different ratios to better suite their use. they have a 1.95:1 for the DS or for smaller on-road tires and a 2.5:1 for the larger 2.2" truck tires instead of the standard 2.25:1 of the stealth.
Good luck with it!

Here's my confusion. Duratrax offers full bearing set of the old style rc10 buggy as "DTXC1115 RC10 old style (16)" 16 means # of bearings. Looking at my buggy and rc10.com parts catalog, I can only see where 8 are needed. 4-front tires, 2-rear arms/tires section(forgot the name), and perhaps two for inside the old style transmission, i.e. the replacement of the two bushings. THat makes a total of 8 bearings. Can any of you guys confirm 8 bearings needed and not 16?

Hello, I recently traded for an RC10 gold tub. Don't know much about this buggy. I have a few other cars including the RC10LSS. Since this RC10 is going to be a roller, does anyone know if there has ever been a successful conversion to make this a nitro setup? If anyone can give me some info, I'd appreciate it.

Dan,
I haven't seen or heard of someone converting a RC10 to nitro. BUT I have seen this...Check it out! (http://rc10.com/racerhub/racerspotlight/dave_crescenzi.htm). It's an article about the guy (Dave Crescenzi) that produces the Crescenzi GT brake system. He converted a GT to street. You can pick up an old GT tub for cheap and the part conversion should all work out. You may need some odds and ends, but I think it's well worth the effort.
Let us know if you're gonna try it!

Wow, that is a nice buggy! Anyways I just wanted to say that I will be joining in in this thread. I already have a T3, but soon enough I will be getting an original RC10 buggy with woven graphite chassis, rolling for 50$ from someone.
Talk later. :)

If I remember right they used to sell nitro converions for the rc10 and the old losi trucks also. The rc10ds nitro is basically an rc10/gt hybrid I think.

no, different bearings in every application you can think of. You can still find kits for the original version, though.

I picked up some steering knuckles and axles today for when I get my buggy (one of them is supposedly missing) so that is good.
I really haven't driven these things, mine will have the 6 gear tranny, how do they handle anyways?
kdh77
07-30-2002, 09:36 PM
they definitely dont handle like the newer buggies, but they do handle well. the six gear tranny has a lot more internal resistance than the stealth and it has the diff made into the spur gear like a pan car. i own a gold tub w/ the pre stalth tranny and a rc-10 CE with the stealth let me know if you need any assistance with yours

make sure the car has bell crank steering. see if the chassis has holes for the stealth tranny, an update is worth it! you can also use a template and drill holes yourself... i did it and it wasn't so bad ;)

Well the man I am buying it from said that the front tires should be okay, and that the rear ones are mauled up, since I want to try it offroad I bought the right tires that we race with on our club track. I'll just rip the other tires off of the rims and mount these. :) Either that or get some new rims at the track, they are not too expensive.

I just figured out that I need a new rear bulkhead because when I was taking it apart a screw head snapped off and I cant get it out :( I don't think there is really anything else to get hmm...
a standard bearing for a front wheel (my friend may have one), standard front buggy rims, gear cover, front skid, ballstuds and ballcups, I think that is it, not too bad considering I could be driving it right now but chose to restor it a bit. :)

I don't think he ever said it was the tub chassis...just an "original" RC10. I think by that he meant that it was the original tranny.
DLF,
Did you ever gat the stock #'s for the wheels you were looking for?
I got these off RC10.com. I dunno which ones are correct, but I think they are the TQ ones...
6802B REAR TQ WHEELS, BLACK PR $5.50 RC10
6802Y REAR TQ WHEELS, YELLOW PR $5.50 RC10
6804 REAR RIMS, 3 PIECE PR $6.00 RC10
6804B REAR RIMS, 3 PIECE, BLACK PR $6.00 RC10
6804Y REAR RIMS, 3 PIECE, YELLOW PR $6.00 RC10
6805 REAR RIMS, 2.175" PR $6.00 RC10
6805B REAR RIMS, 2.175", BLACK PR $6.00 RC10
6805Y REAR RIMS, 2.175", YELLOW PR $6.00 RC10
6820M TIRES, REAR, MEDIUM TQ PR $1.50 RC10
6820S TIRES, REAR, SOFT TQ PR $1.50 RC10
6821H TIRES, REAR, HARD SPIKE PR $1.50 RC10
6852Y FRONT TQ WHEELS, YELLOW PR $4.00 RC10

6854B FRONT WHEELS, 2 PIECE, BLACK PR $4.50 RC10
6854Y FRONT WHEELS, 2 PIECE, YELLOW PR $4.50 RC10
...BTW tires are a steal at $1.50!:D
Believe it or not, I actual had a set. That's what's on it in the pic. I do however need a set of Associated ribbed fronts. I'll get it later though.
As for the names on the body, they are: Cliff Lett, Curtis Hustins (sp?), Mike Reedy, Butch Klober and J.D. (something...can't read or remember his last name).

I'm going to be using step pin tires on the rear, and original ones on the front. I will have to borrow mone y from my mom to get this one off. :( I got my parts list for what I need and it came to...
RPM bumper-$7.00
Blue Screw Kit-$19.00
rear bulkhead-$7.00
black RPM gear cover-$10.00
foam donuts for ballstuds-3$
package of 12 ballcups and ballstuds with nuts-$15.75
I have to add tax only on the last one
I am also getting a bearing for front rim and some standard buggy rims.
The original tires fit standard rims right?
Reason for needing the new bulkhead is a screw head snapped off, and the rest of the screw is stuck in there, not possible to drill out, it looks as though it was CA'd in there for some reason.
ronnieraygun-by Original I meant what leadfoot said, "original gearbox" and the first buggy Team Ass. put out.
RonnieRayGun
08-02-2002, 08:22 PM
so why are you buying foam donuts for the ball cups/studs? i mean i have never had them on my rc10 and everything has been fine... 15 years later!
and you really don't need a bumper, bumpers are for girls!
save your money and buy some real front tires!
pudder
08-02-2002, 08:28 PM
Bumpers are for girls huh? I hope yo uwere kidding. I know I want to have a bumper so I dont crack the front of my chassis if I happen to meet with anothers rear end! :)
Any of you know where I could find a 48 pitch spur for my RC10 for the 6 gear tranny?
RonnieRayGun
08-02-2002, 09:09 PM
i just used the associated 48 pitch spur from tower... it is supposed to be stock and has holes for the ball bearings. the stock spur that comes with the stealth, however the same size, has no holes and won't work with the old slipper.

pudder, you really should dump that old steering/servo saver set up, it is bunk! go for the bellcrank steering upgrade, it comes with bushings so you can easily upgrade to bearings. it will make a HUGE difference!
i think bakerman posted a link a while back, it said bellcrank steering but was an underlined link.
it really sucks that you glued that on. check out jeepinator's rc10 pics, the black one has a turnbuckle with ballcups for a steering arm, instead of that budget wire thing! here is the link
http://www.theshreves.com/rc_stuff/6035.htm
just trying to help, you will figure this out sooner or later i guess!
RonnieRayGun
08-03-2002, 08:10 AM
p.s.
your set up may not be able to work quite like that, because of the mounting holes in your chassis. i had to bend the turnbuckle on mine in the same angle as the original wire.

08-03-2002, 10:56 AM
Thanks for the suggestions Ronnie, and now I atleast know someone is looking at the page. :)
When I was setting that up I wished I could have a turnbuckle instead, in the future I will get it, butright nowit will have to wait since I am going over my spending limit in one time. I think RPM has a ball bearing steering kitfor the RC10 too.
I will hopefully get in all of my parts by next weekend to finish it off. A new Viper body is only 22$ here, not much, but it will wait until another time since the previous owner said that it was in decent shape.

FYI, the B3 bodies will fit on the graphite chassis RC10. You just have to leave some of the lexan on the lower points, because they are not as low-profile.
I also have a tie-rod/ bell-crank setup right now on my project listed above.

I have 1 in the front like a normal, 1 on each side of the chassis, and it has a long back black plastic thing mounted over the gearbox, that has 2 body mounts on it. Im getting really confused about the wayback body mounts, i doubt the body reaches that far back to reach to the far back body mounts, is that the wings mount?

RPM has the steering upgrade and stealth conversion kits, although there is nothing wrong with the 6 gear tranny, just more rotating mass, I'll probably keep mine but in the future I might change to stealth, it still can almost keep up to my t3 with the setup I ave.
You could probably get ballbearings from duratrax, you might have to buy them separate though, check at an LHS to see about bearings or www.towerhobbies.com and search for rc10, or rc10 bearings.
www.rpmrcproducts.com has the steering kit and stealth conversion, you might have to drill new holes in the chassis for it though and get a new tranny brace, nothing big. :)
I finally got my buggy going sunday and everyone at the club was amazed at the handling of the thing and how stable it was in the air, especially me since it is a 12 year old buggy! It jumped stable and took the hits like a man, looked like a modern buggy outthere, when I get my body and wing for it I will probably race it a bit.

Lol, and i thought i was one of the only people who still actualy used an older rc10
about 4-5 years ago my unlce showed me his rc10 worlds buggy, i was so fascinated, about 1 ago he lent it to me to play with, and he has never gotten it back, i love it, it got me into the real r/c instead of the old radio shack stuff which i thought was top of the line, i used to run it every day but i broke a shock tower, i replaced it a week later and the very next day a broke it again, so its been sittin in its case for about 2 months, i recently looked into and realised that the shocks hadnt been rebuilt or tuned in about 10 years hehe, so im gonna start rebuilding them, i was hoping someone had some spare unwanted parts for the older rc10 buggy, such as a spare shock strut/tower, thats the only problem wrong with it, its pretty fast car to, just wish it was running
im 15 too, i own a e4tec, which im trying to sell, rc10gt, emaxx, and my worlds buggy that my unlce still hasnt came to get :p

thanks for the observation. My friend with the Kyosho posted the pic. I never realized how far back my wing was. I built the car about 10 yrs ago and it sat in a box until just recently. Kind of a shame that the RC10 never saw a track until about 2 weeks ago. I never had any friends with RC10's so I didn't know I put the wing on too far back. Anyway, I fixed it and here's the new and improved location for the wing.

If you hurry there is one right here (http://**************/ws/*******************************1924503346).
Hi guys. On an impulse I bought some RC cars off a guy in another city. I haven't seen them in the flesh yet yet and I can't work out exactly which model of RC10 they are from the pictures.
I've had a look at a lot of pictures online this evening and I don't know enough about them to tell them apart - the originals and the B2's and B3's look the same to me. Maybe someone can tell me which they are? :)
There's pictures here:
http://66.111.38.50/~agg/rc_cars/
His description of them:
TWO Team Associated rc10's. (not the latest model) both with aftermarket graphite chassis, both are fully working, both have electronic speed control and about 7 Battery Packs.
have about 5 shells, loads of spares (some still in packaging never used), includes all radio gear for both cars:
about 4 sets of crystals.
3 stock 540 motors
1 reedy 540 motor.
1 modified motor (damaged armature, can is fine tho)
lots of spare tyres, some never used.
Battery charger, runs of a car battery to charge the battery packs.
The cars come with two radios, a futaba magnum junior (wheel) and a futaba attack -sr (stick). Both are two channel.
Both cars are set up well and have been raced at competition level. These are not some kids R/C car, they are extremely fast and have been raced, mostly carbon fibre and high strength plastic components.
Some more info from emails:
They are the original RC10's with the graphite chassis upgrades, they are probably about 4 years old,
however nearly all parts have been upgraded/replaced over the time i have had the cars
Hmm, I thought "original RC10"s were a lot older than 4 years.. more like 15 years from what I've read.
Anyway, any info about these cars is very welcome. What are they, and are they any good? :) I'm sure I'll have a ball with them regardless, the last thing I had was 15 years ago, some cheapo Kyosho thing that wasn't very impressive. I bought these as a cheapish way of reliving my childhood and seeing if I want to get back into RC cars in a more serious way.
(BTW, apologies if I've posted in the wrong place.. the whole "no new threads" thing is a bit confusing.)

You're in the right place. That buggy is defiantly an origional RC10 Graphite buggy. If you look closely at the back, towards the motor mount, you can recognise the design, and the slipper pad to be of the orginal, also if you look at the shock towers, you can sort of make out that they are the white fiberglass material that they come stock with. I can also tell it is an original because the B2 and T2 vehicles came with metal tub chassis. :)
If the price is right, you should get that thing, those are really nice buggies to drive.

Both are the old original RC10’s that have to be older than 4 years. One of them has gold shocks in the back so I suppose it is a Champ edition with the graphite upgrades. The other looks the same with the upgrades, gray shocks and a B3 body, which looks pretty nice.
The original RC10's are great cars, (indestructible)I have had 5 of then in my life and I have 2 of them and a RC10T at the moment and I love them, I don’t race them any more because today’s cars like B3’s , XXX and soon the B4 are way more advance. But you could race them anyway the RC10 can be set up nicely for any track and I bet you could do good with it today. I am working on a project RC10 buggy with a RC10T front modified suspension and I am planning to race it on a dirt oval track. I’ll post some pics soon. Hope you have fun with the cars …

These buggies are still good for racing too, I had mine pretty dialed into the track, with a Trinity P2k 2 Pro, and a 2400 with an old Novak ESC, I beat 2 or 3 guys running low turn mod motors. :)

Anyone else here still working on their old RC10? I recently rescued my old one from my parents storage, and aside from having to replace old 4 pin deans plugs on the ancient Futaba ESC (still using the Mag Jr. that it was packaged with), it should be ready to rumble. I tore down the tranny and cleaned all the bearings, relubed them and the gears, and put it all back together (original AE stock motor and all), and once I get my tax return back, will be finishing off the job with some new powerpole connectors and maybe a new body, and then taking it out for a spin.

LanceS, I still drive my RC10 CE about once a week and race it about once a month at the local club races. It's the only offroad car that I have at the moment seeing as though I've been holding out to get the B4 as soon as it comes out.
After getting new batteries, new stock motor, new tires, and rebuilding the shocks the thing is in good working order and is at least a decent performer against the XXX crowd at my local track. Between my rusty driving and the heavier vehicle I don't plan on winning any races but its still a blast to drive!

The value depends very much on the exact model of the car and the condition. A primo original RC-10 #6016 kit (it was the first) is worth upwards of $400 for a clean, new-in-the-box version, though prices have been coming down a little bit lately. The later versions are not worth as much.

StevePond

It doesn't sound like a bad deal. I don't think you could turn around and make money on it, but if you listed each item separately, they might bring that much on eBay. Again - a HUGE part of the value is the condition of the cars. If they're race weary and require a lot of TLC, they're not worth as much as very clean, very low wear vehicles. Only you can be the judge of the value because you're the only one that can put their hands on them.

WRONG! The RC10CE came with the gold chassis. The Team Car and World's Cars came with the black tub.
Man, I remember that 410 kit. The original MIP 4WD conversion actually used a bicycle speedometer cable to get power to the front wheels. I have some old R/C book from those grade school book fairs, and there's a shot of an MIP RC10 4WD conversion.

I'm sorry, you are mistaken. To give you some RC10 history, the RC10 CE was the first buggy to have both the stealth transmission and black tub chassis. It also came with white suspension parts (not black like the worlds car). I've attached a picture I just took of my RC10CE.
As you can see I swapped the black chassis for the blue one, but I still have the stock black nose plate and white suspension arms. As a side note: if anyone has a blue nose plate they'd be interested in selling, please let me know. :)

Get this http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX2892&P=7 if you need all the hardware, or http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LX2894&P=V if you have the tie-rods and a couple extra 8-32 screws like in the front bulkhead, and want to use bearings. You need some 1/4-3/8" flanged bearings, which will cost about $12 for 4. The bushings included in the first kit should work fine if you want to save money. RPM makes a complete bellcrank kit, with bearings, for $24, but I prefer the Associated set, and it's cheaper too.
There also was the Lightspeed plate, in blue and black at various times. If somebody really wants a blue plate, you can have your aluminum stuff anodized from various sources.

I believe MIP used to make some very nice aluminum bellcranks. I believe RPM also made some molded ones. You might have to track them down in the "for sale" section or check eBay.
SteveK
03-02-2003, 05:01 PM
Steve Pond-
Those bellcranks were made by a bunch of sources, but they were essentially all the same. Houge, Composite Craft, and several other companies sold them, probably all the exact same things. Sassy Chassis uses (Used) them as the cantilever arms on their Clod and USA chassis. The Associated molded ones are essentially the same thing, just plastic. I have a set in my DS, and they are very nice.
Factory Works still sells the older A&L bellcranks that used a steering bar rather than a drag-link.
RPM's bellcranks are very nice, bearings included, but too flexible for my taste. At least my RC10T cranks are: The shorter RC10 bellcranks will logically be stiffer.
Based on cost and availability, get the Associated bellcranks.

03-03-2003, 09:26 AM
I don't think RPM makes the steering anymore which is a shame because I wanted one for my buggy, but I don't think I'll look around. My stock one is extremely smooth, but it will eventually develop some play.
Right now I'm working on getting my RC10 setup for the carpet track. I have already figured out a way to adapt my T3 gearbox to the chassis (mine was pre-stealth) and am working on the suspension setup.
Maybe I'll get some pics soon!
SteveK

RPM still lists the parts on their site, so I'm sure it's still available. There are enough old-timey RC10s and 10Ts out there that it's still worth their time to produce them. The T2 and GT can use the buggy bellcranks as well.
The Associated bearing'd bellcranks are some nice pieces, I highly recommend them.

Thanks Steve. It's posted on ebay and looking further into it, it turns out it's a Team kit which actually debut in 1993. Do you know what the difference was between the original that first came out 2 years prior in 1991?
SteveK
03-11-2003, 11:10 PM
The later Team kit had a new body, 1-piece wheels, universals, graphite tranny brace, thicker shock towers with more mounting holes, and stronger, more rigid suspension arms. Sounds like a lot, but basically they were the same truck.
StevePond
03-11-2003, 11:42 PM
In terms of value to someone who wants a first-issue truck for whatever reason, it's not as desireable. The suspension geometry is more similar to the T2 than the original 10T, and I believe all the suspension parts are molded in black plastic. The most desireable kits are the ones that have the white molded parts - same for the RC10 kits. The car or truck is always worth more with the white parts - less if they're black, even less if someone dyed the parts any other color. I would suggest changing your listing to include more information. Check the parts bags and if the suspension parts are molded in black and are different in configuration than the original truck, I would add something like "Team Edition with 2nd generation suspension molded in black." You may end up finding someone that wants it anyway, but the listing as its written may draw someone that wants an original issue kit and that's not what they're going to get from the sounds of it. Check the parts and be sure of what you're selling is the best advice I can offer. You can't get rid of bad feedback on eBay.

Thanks for the advice Steve P. I'll add more to my description. Yes, all the parts are molded in White and the only item that is black is the chassis or tub chassis as it was called. Back when I started racing in 1990 and on, I started with a Losi JRXT. I would pay top dollar to get a JRXT still in kit form and keeping an eye on ebay for one. The RC10T was what I was racing against and a freind of mine that I raced with every weekend had one but from what I remember it had the gold tub which was the original first RC10T. But again, like I said I have the Black tub chassis and I'm assuming that was one of the attributes of the "Team Kit".

I have two RC10T trucks, one built and one kit. They both have the black tub chassis. Check to see if you have the three-piece wheels. You might just have an earlier kit than you thought. Also, a solid sign that you have a truck from the first production run is the inclusion of the narrow front tires and wheels. They were only included in the first production run of trucks.

Here's a shot of the built chassis with what I believe to be the original suspension. I also have a 7035 kit that came with the skinny tires in the box, so it appears the competition kit was available right from the start. The black chassis was common to the RC10T - they all came with it. The gold tub was a buggy thing.

I have the one piece wheels and it has the fatter front tires. I am so tempted to build this and just put it up for display.

I wouldn't pay 'top dollar', but I'd love an old JG SRT. It was basically an RC10 Team Car with a graphite chassis, long front shocks, and JG's special longer suspension arms. I just loved those old buggy-conversion-like trucks, with the long almost verticle front shocks, massively offset wheels, and truck bodies with no big hood scoops or lumps in the bed for shock clearance.
Baring that, I'd like an Outlaw Raider.

The very first 10T had:
- 3-piece wheels, with a set of wide and skinnies for the front.
- Green Team shocks.
- Fairly thin shock towers, with only two shock mounting holes front and rear.
- All white nylon.
There were actually running improvements in the 10T series. The thicker shock towers with more holes are seen on Steve Pond's truck, and the new arms were phased in as well (Those are probably them if it has the new towers: There's a second shock mounting hole up front). Unless I'm mistaken, that's also an upgraded rear bulkhead: The original from the 1980's RC10 had little tabs with a ton of useless camber-rod mounting holes on it. Either Steve cut them off or it's a new bulkhead.
That's actually an RC10ST, which had bushings, dogbones, gold shocks, a motor, and MSC, and was actually available up through the middle of the RC10T2's run. Over time, the ST got the black suspension arms, which were basically the same as the upgraded Team arms, but molded from a different material. The GT had these as well, until it got the arms from the RC10T2 (I have all three sets, the originals, the white upgraded ones, and the T2 arms, as well as a set of RPM arms).

Skool - that's what one of my chassis will be for - just to have for display.
K - I see those pretty often on eBay. If you want to know a little trick that I find helpful - Most of the serious sellers of classic RC gear have the items listed in an eBay store instead of out in the general public. eBay in their infinite wisdom  , does not search the inventory of any "stores" when you do a standard search. Once you've searched the regular listings, you need to go to the advanced search and select "search stores."

K - good info. I could actually do something silly and go look at OLD COPIES OF THE MAGAZINE from the late 80's and see the truck for myself, but that would make too much sense. :D

Wow, more than I ever wanted to know about these trucks here!
I think I'm going to put my RC10 on my wall for display from now on. I found out I'll be getting a B3 around the end of the month, and well I would rather not wear out my RC10.
I had some good times winning races with it. :)
