Hmm I have a Mountaineer I live in Istanbul-Turkey.I'm planning to re-paint the truck,I think I can post the pics when I do the painting job.
My truck doesn't have the rear shocks, those pink shocks from 1/14 truck models were mounted on it when I got the car last year.Have you ever heard about hobby stores holding new/old parts for the mountaineer in USA? (bumpers are also missing) I couldn't find them in Turkey.

I have posted some shots of my "Baja Bruiser" before, but I done a few mods to it so I figured thats all the excuse I need to pester ya'll with some more pix of it...;)
Its basically an old Tamiya Bruiser, that I have modified with coil-over shocks & 4-link suspension, and with some custom chassis and driveline parts.
It has custom (ie "home-made" :lol ) 7075 T6 battery tray, electronics tray, center support, shock/link mounts, steering servo mount and bumpers. Its powered by a Graupner 700 Turbo running at 14.4V powered by a EVX ESC, utilizing Traxxas slider shafts front & rear. Its all topped off with a ProLine F350 lid and a home made 7mm stainless steel rollbar.
One VERY important fact is that no "permanent" changes where made to the stock parts of the truck, so it can be returned back to "stock" configuration at any time.
And to top off all the shiney stuff, I added a set of VERY sweet "Trick" alu wheels from MThompson.

Fullbore & Thorbob,
Sweet lookin rides. Fullbore will that engine look good on my E-Maxx.
fulbore4x4
09-10-2002, 02:25 PM
Nitrorookie, you could use that engine...but one that I have seen that fits the scale better is off of a car that you can buy at walmart for like 14 dollars. Called like a hot machine or something similar. Take the engine out of that and you can actually attach it without having to hack a huge hole in the hood of your body. The engine even comes with braided line as well...nice bonus if you ask me!
NitroRookie
09-10-2002, 03:19 PM
Fulbore,
How is the engine mounted in your truck?
I need a new body for my E anyway. I was thinking of getting a Parma Pre-Painted Gravedigger body and the Parma engine and mount the engine in the back like the Real Gravedigger.
fulbore4x4
09-15-2002, 04:44 AM
When the hole was cut for the engine to be placed in, there was a piece of plastic that was glued to the inside of the body that goes all the way around the perimeter of the hole. Then there was a hole drilled in the back of the engine and then a hole drilled in the plastic perimeter. Just add a nut and bolt and you have your engine mounted.

I want to introduce everybody to Bruisernaut, this truck is one of the most amazing truck I have ever tested. This truck is originally owned by SleeperCivic (Richard, manager for Losi Racing Team). I really need to take this opportunity to say thanks to Richard, he is a super nice guy and his truck in the magazine is what made me into this whole 3-speed craze.
This is also the truck that appeared on the cover page of the May 2002 Issue of Hi-Torques R/C Car Magazine.
With JB welded front one ways for full time 4wd, this truck can go over literally anything. Tires are Proline Dirt Hawgs on M Thompsons amazing aluminum wheels and as well as M Thompsons Aluminum bell crank.
The suspension is huge improved from the original bruiser setup, with custom made front shock towers supported and Losi 1.2 shocks, articulation is just one word, outstanding!
Driving it, at first you will think wow, this thing is slow like a cow. Well, once you go over rocks and sand, that's where it shine.

My some what less experienced buddy who was the driving while I was taking picture created this roll over, which cause some of the paint to fall off. It was a very sad moment, but overall this truck is very stable on the ground as long as you drive with care and skill. I have no problem fixing the paint, but the window trim chrome was something that I don't know how to repair, since it seems like to be a decal sheet rather than a paint.

The chrome is a product called Bare Metal Foil. Any hobby shop that carries model cars should have it. Its very easy to apply, and you already know that it looks great :)

The Jeep body is from the Tamiya Jeep Wrangler kit, as of a month ago, you could still get the body, window, and headlight buckets direct from Tamiya, or you can get one from E-bay. You have to shorten the Bruiser frame to make it work though. Check out ****.NET in the Bruiser/Mountaineer section for some more Jeep Bruisers!

birdy233

Yes, those will fit fine, it's a bit tight, so I would lift the body up a bit or put a set of Juggernaut leaf springs for a suspension lift for the clearance.

Hi!
I couldn't find any Hilux forum and since it's somewhat related to the Bruiser and Mountaineer I thought I'd try here...
So, a Toyota Hilux pick up need its tires replaced. Is it a standard tire so whatever tire I like will fit or is it special for this model?

i ran into one prob i'm going have to find some long drive shafts. i'm using a kyosho transmission so that requires about another 1/4 inch on the drive shafts. the motor sits right on the bottom plate of the chassis for lower CG.

A few questions.
1. I need to flush out my tranny, what should I use? Motor spray okay?
2. What can I lube it with?
3. Is there a substitute that I can use for the tranny plugs?
Thanks.

Ok guys Im looking to get a bruiser for cheap. I dont need any of the hop-ups or anything. I need a project and I dont have a whole lot of money to spend. So if you guys could look out for one cheap I would so greatly appreciate it. I am only 14 and I think these trucks are awsome. I want to build 1 like a toyota I had.

WDguy,
Good luck finding one for cheap. The only way I have been able to afford one is to build it one piece at a time. And it's still not cheap. I have already put about $100 in it and I'm no where near a running truck. :D

i think that yellow hummer is back on ebay again...i just bought a bruiser today off of ebay, made a deal with the seller and he ended the auction early for $400...
also, could i use my hitec lynx 3d or jr xr3 for this or do i have to use a stick radio(too bad its illegal to use 72mhz radios for ground vehicles or id use the radio for my plane)
gots_a_sol
09-27-2003, 09:06 AM
looks like ill have to find out if the lynx will work myself then...it seems that it would, cuz i hooked all my electronics up and how its set up, it has 3 diff. positions that the 3rd channel can go to...
so if i press the up key for the 3rd chan. once(from 1st gear) that will put me into 2nd gear, press it again, then be in 3rd
if i press the the down key once, that puts me back into 2nd, and press it again, that puts me into 1st
hope it works...

bruiser came in today :D looks like im going to have to buy a new motor for it though
im using a lynx 3D and so far ive got it to shift between 1st and 2nd, still trying to get 3rd to work...
one thing that confused the crap out of me when i had all the electronics in was when i hit the gas, it would just sould like something was grinding in the transmission, so i though something horrible had happened, well i pull the first part of the case off(part the motor mounts to) and it appears there is a type of slipper clutch on the spur gear...well, after looking at it, i found out it was the cause of my truck not going anywhere
one of the plates(dont know what its really called) looks like it should have had dimples on it all the way around, well, it was smooth as a baby's ass...so i gotta figure out what to do to get power from the motor to the ground, probably just superglue the gear pieces together
ok, done rambling now...

since i don't have cash to get my front axle fixed i desided to build a two wheel drive pre runner and then convert it to four wheel drive when i have money. i going to use buggy front arms and still have a four link and rear axle. the best part is that i'll be able to use the chassis that i built before.

well, i am planning on driving mine, i didnt spend $ 700. , & some odd dollars 2 have it just sit on the shelf. :-) , I bought min off e-bay like 2 months ago. I didnt even test it yet, b/c the rechargeable batt in the controler is dead, i am short on funds, so i cant get another 1 for quite some time.
The 1st thing that i did is take the bruiser apart, and in my highschool shop class i polished all the parts :-) , thanks 2 my cool shop teacher MR. hebrock.
before i put it 2gether, i want 2 get full bearings for it, so it will keep wear 2 a minimum.
if i can get a friend with a camera, ill post some pics of it when its built.

Well looks like a am jumping on the Mountaneer band wagen. I had one a long while ago and due to the fact i buy and sell on e bay i sold it for a monster profit. This time around i found another that i pretty much paid 100.00 for. It is in prestine condition just missing body parts and body posts. Everything else is there. It has old school elctronics remote etc. I am however in need of some help! Im trying to figure out how the hole shifter thing works. The shifter plate on my remote is missing. So i go up left down rite and that does reverse and foreward but i thought these worked like real stick shift cars? I cant get into any other gears . Granted its just run around my living room . Will it auto shift when its gotten up to speed? I will post pics soon. I ALSO HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE LAST POST !! LETS GET SOME MORE PICTURES UP HERE AND STUFF!!

Looks like you have a real project on your hands. LOL I did get her running in the yard today a bit but i think only in 1 gear. And reverse. I cant figure out how to get it into second?? I try mimicing the movement i have seen on the remotes with the shifter patern but mines is totally off either that or something is wrong w the trannis. I hope its just something stupid. Does anyone know if i can just toss an esc on and will i get full speed that way? I am also having another problem. I really want to trick this truck out a bit. Put clod style suspension on it and really rock crawl it because i heard these trannis are awesome. But the damn truck is in such great condition . The rims dont have a scratch. hmmm well guess i have to get the bugs out first lol. I will try and post some pics tomorrow.

hey, I have a bruiser.....its almost mint, but it needed a new coat of paint, so I stripped it recently and is awaiting a fresh paintjob(as soon as I have some free time lol)
for it to shift properly it does have to be setup properly to start with the servo must literally shift it from full lock to centre to opposite lock for each change. also for best driving you need a H style gearshift thing for your transmitter.....you can get one from rc4wd.com: http://www.rcrock.com/shopx/go.cgi?&shop=city&cart=43782907x7227&session=409577281c3b12fb&L=eng&P=4x4-B006
also the collet thing that the gear lever attaches to must be in exactly the right place otherwise the sahft will not move the right amount when the servo shifts.
there is a thing in the manual about setting it - got to www.tamiyaclub.com if you dont have the manual already.
also make sure that if the tranny has been upgraded to ball bearings that it has enough 5x8mm shims to take up the slack(modern flange 8x5mm BB's are thinner than the stock bushings....)
;)

The way the tranny works is 4w low -4w high-2w high the speed control handles forward & reverse I use a controler from a t-maxx that was lying around & replaced the thumb switch for a 3possition switch from radio shack works perfect :D

thats cool how u modified the t-maxx controller 2 work, because the old style controlers is like trying to hold a shoe box to operate your vehical. Well....looks like im no going to put my bruiser back together for quite a while , because i stripped a lot of the screws while getting them out. And i wont have money for a new screw set anytime soon because my boss told me to start lookin for a new job. And that is soooo horrible, because i graduate from high school next month, and finding a job is gonna be hard, alot of the places i went to said that they already laid people off till christmas......all in all, im gonna have to put my hobby of rc on hold for quite some time. even though i dont like the idea, priorities come first.

It would be really expenseive to build a mountaineer from parts. , in the USA, we have www.ebay.com , wich is an on-line auction site, so that we can bid on rc vehicales, if you can bid on this site that would be great. if not , you could try a search engine on-line , and just start clicking, your bound to find some on-line auctions that you can join in. if you have anymore questions , just leave a post...........hope this helps you. :D

decent runs about 500 to 700. folks with hops ups etc... run higher probably max in my opinion only 1200 like new condition though. of course NIB runs 2k plus gaurenteed.

Well I'm a proud owner of a project Bruiser. Traded off my micro helicopter plus more stuff for a truck in a box in pieces. No shell though or tires but you gotta start somewhere huh?

yup. i agree, some people even "assemble" a bruiser by parts as they come along on ebay.
recently, a running bruiser complete with radio and body never go below the $450 mark. now a mint type fetch $700 and above. with the like new category, we are seeing $1000++ and as you can see on ebay, a NIB is $2000 and above.

So is there any member here who does tranny's? I'm having a shifting problem with mine. I got alloy lower shock mounts and dual upper mounts and now I need 8 4 inch shocks, anyone got some?

Well I'm doing the crazy. I'm going to cut my frame and make a one off truck. Don't hate me because I'm doing it but I'm getting a frame made so don't worry. A 3 speed monster truck like us americans always do. 8 shocks + 3 speeds = old busted hotness lol

what kind of shifting problems are you having? post them & see what happens= they aren't too complicated . I've had mine apart a number of times

Well I haven't mounted the tranny to the chassis but when I try to shift it by hand it seems it doesn't want to go into 4 wheel drive low.

the linkage won't go? or the front output shaft just doesn't spin? are you spinning the tranny by hand or are you using the motor to drive it?

Does anyone know if you can get roll cages for the Bruiser?
Also, does anyone know if the F350 body on the new truck fits the old bruiser?
Cheers
