How should I reduce slop in the steering?
I have the bearings in the bellcranks but is that to be expected for all cars?
The motor hold-down strap broke when I tried to put it on. I bought another one and it worked well. Should I get the aluminum motor hold down?
What do you think about the clicker assembly?
Full time 4WD sounds cool but is it really the hot setup?
How do you prevent glitching with low battery levels?
XX4 is the coolest car out team losi with the Rally Weapon and XXX-S close behind!

to reduce the slop in the steering, try putting an o-ring on each ball stud and then reattach the ball cups. i have found that the centre link is very prone to becoming sloppy, even when it's new. the o-ring fix seems to work the best so far. as for fullt time four wheel drive, all i can say is experiment. see if you like it and if you turn faster laps. also, the course layout will play a big part in whether or not full time 4wd will be beneficial.if the track is very tight, it might allow you to get farther into the turns (faster) under braking. if the track is very fast with a lot of sweepers then the full time 4wd might be a liability. do you have the slipper installed on your car? if so, try running with the street weapon non-slipper setup. better acceleration and slightly longer run times are usually the result of this mod. as for the motor hold down strap, i like the aluminum one for 2 reasons. 1, it's stronger and 2, it dissipates heat better than the plastic one. hope this helps,
adam

If your front end is really sloppy a lot of the time I will find a loose ball stud. Check everything out closley. If that is not the case then the 0-ring thing works well. If you can find the alum motor clamp get one but good luck finding one. They do not make them any more (who knows why they stopped.) but it might be a chore to get your hands on one. If you would like to try the non slipper setup check out my web site for more details and also I have some details on a B3 front brace mod that will help take the slop out of your front bulkhead.

You can't mod them to run stick packs. if you want to talk about XX4's though, please use the old forum

I would have to disagree. A stick pack fits nicely on the left side of the chassis behind the motor. I used to do this for practice. Unfortunately, this completely throws off the balance on the vehicle, and you break just about every suspension component on the left side.

Thought I would answer here, as the question is here.

Your best bet would be to pick up some battery bars (about $1.50 a piece) and a good sodering iron, and build saddle packs. Eventually, you will need these skills when you buy better cells. I would not suggest the XX4 as a basher, however.

why would you not suggest it as a basher is it to weak or something

I wouldn't call it a weak car, but it just isn't what a good basher is. It is a race car.
The parts are expensive, and the carbon stuff is stiff, but it can be easier to break than say, Tamiya parts.
The belts are also very race oriented.
If you want a 4wd Basher, Try a Tamiya, the shaft drive is a little more reliable. And they usually accept stick packs.

If you plan to race in the future, especially off road, i would advise the XX4 or XXX4. I might try 2wd first, but if your heart is set on 4wd, the Losi cars are the only real (practical) competitors in electric 4wd off road.

I LOVE my xx-4 (when it is not sidelined because of a broken front and/or rear bulkhead on every other run.) I got some carbon fiber shock tower braces from a company called Penguin r/c, that made the shock towers about 4 times as strong, and I have not broken one since. The front Penguin r/c brace makes it double sheer and the rear has a brace front and back, very cool! This is in no way a "basher" car, not even close. It is much too brittle in the suspension department. The xx-4 is a car I would only recommend to experienced drivers that rarely (or never) crash and only want to drive on well groomed tracks without huge jumps to flat landings. If you case a jump the motor mount cam bracket snaps in two and you strip the spur just before you are totally immoble. If you land upside down the shock towers break. If you land at too much of a down angle the front bulkhead or front arm will break. The only thing that has been problem free is the main chassis and the belt drive system. But I still love it, mabye i'm crazy but this car makes you become a good driver and rewards you when you do so.
Here's a link to the Penguin r/c braces I mentioned

For your XX-4 guys, the X-5 conversion is about to be released which will turn your 3 belt vehicle into a 1 belt missile.
check it out at www.4wdrc.com .

That kit looks like a total nightmare, and you have to be some kind of dremel genious to make it work, plus it's $229!?! just for the conversion!

dremal night mare? only if you've never use a dremal before.
They have put a tonn of time into R&D and have had a lot of mistakes but after this month there shouldn't any issues at all with the kit. Mines on its way to me now, I'll know how it does in a few weeks. Ive seen many X-5's run at my home track (CRCRC) and they have all been awsome. I cant wait to accel like a XXX4 and out handall them.
Ive seen them rebuild the car at the track too, it goes together like a XXX4 too, very simple.

I haven't seen one of these up close but the reports I have gotten is that its a good upgrade for your vehicle and they are being very standup about the problems and getting them corrected. There is even a newer body style someone came up with that i think they are going to sell on the site for 16 dollars and it looks pretty trick as its all aerodynamic.
I would say if you are a XX-4 diehard, this would be a good pickup. If you could have gotten in at the 169 price you got a great deal. The 229 thing I am not sure how well that will go over.
