does anyone have 1??? is it any good for bashing and/or racing???? or is there a better one out there that doesnt cost a fortune?

I have one and they are good cars. AE has discontinued all of the Sport kits (bushings, aluminum shocks, dogbones, and canister muffler) and the Racer kits (bearings, aluminum shocks, universals, and a tuned pipe) for the Qualifier kit (bushings, plastic shocks, dogbones, and canister muffler). They are fun cars, plenty durable, but they are lacking a few simple hop-ups such as a tuned pipe and bearings. Once you get those, you'll be more than ready to go. Those will set you back about $75 probably.

good luck

my room mate has a nds and its set over the winter with fuel in the tank...went to start it yesterday and no go...am wondering if fresh fuel will be helpful, and what else could be wrong?? it has good batteries in it still, but need to know what hopups will be helpful too??

tadium54
04-01-2002, 11:08 AM
queen- absolutely. nitro fuel love moiisture and will pull it from wherever it can. tell your room mate to dump the fuel in the tank, and then pull the top latch of the tank back and forth until nothing comes out. the engine should be able to fire up by then. also, it could be your needles

ayk_driver
04-01-2002, 01:09 PM
its more than likely the fuel... if he didnt fiddle with needled after the last run then its the fuel definately

Duratarx Queen
04-01-2002, 10:01 PM
yep u were right, it was the fuel... he dumped and refilled, fired right up :D found receiver batts were dead, changed those too, now hes ready to rock and roll :)

Tell him to either move the lower mounting holes on the shock farther out on the arm or add some internal spacers inside the shock. I did this to my NDS (the spacers) and its handling was so much better. Granted I only have 1/4" of ground clearance, but the car is so much better.

Duratarx Queen
04-06-2002, 06:28 PM
like how much better?? also the inside edge of thr rear tires are worn out but the rest have tread, if yours did this, how can he fix it??

tadium54
04-06-2002, 07:24 PM
a tire truer copuld fix it if its foams, but if they are rubber, i think they have to go

atm92484_3
04-07-2002, 12:28 AM
While hes at it, tell him to get the 0 degree toe in mounts for the rear and readjust his camber. IMO, 6 degrees is too much for the rear of the NDS and causes too much tire wear. I'm running 0 degrees and the car is a little harder to handle, but tires last a lot longer.

Duratarx Queen

They mounts are part number 7364.

Has any one done the touring wheel conversion to their NDS? I'm thinking about doing it soon since I have a TC3 and NTC3 (so I have tires laying around), and tcs have a much wider selection of tires.

well, finally stripped a spur on my nds and didnt tighten the rear wheel on one side so its time for new rims also (opps) :( while its apart for maintence, thought id just get a few things for it too:) like bearings. heh heh heh

Hey that looks pretty sweet; how did you do it (self or pay someone)? May I suggest ordering gold aluminum bodies along with a pipe and manifold and having those powder coated? That canister muffler doesn't do anything good for the car.

Bright, try lowering the car and running a stiffer sway bar. I lowered my NDS to about 1/4" of ground clearance, 50wt in the rear, 40wt in the front (stock pistons for both), and sway bars set on max stiffness. The car handles a lot better but it is still easy to slide. Also, don't waste your money with aluminum; just get the Trinity tk1200 engine mount brace and you should be good.

A few questions:

What speeds is this things capable, like does it have a two speeed that can be put in and will it fly with that and a nice engine?

Is there a lot of hop ups for this?

Is it hrder to control being 2wd?

Is this a good basher car and can it be raced in touring car classes or is there to point because this thing cant contend?

How much does it cost to replace the chassis for a better one?

Is this durable?

What is the width on it? What bodies fit on this?

I like this because i could get it brand new not a lot of money and can choose my own engine and radio.

Any other info would be great.

TRX, http://www.hobbyetc.com has quite a few aluminum NDS parts. I would not reccomend aluminum in some places (arms especially) since they will only bend in a crash. Plus aluminum adds a lot of weight to the car.

Nikko, there are no 2 speeds available for this car, but with a single speed, decent engine, and some slight gearing changes, the car can reach 40 with no problem. There are not that many hop-ups available, but you can fit some parts from other cars onto the NDS (like TC3 threaded shocks for example; you just need to use a longer .56 shock shaft and the .56 springs). It isn't really that hard to control but it also will not handle anything like a 4wd nitro tc. It is defiently a good basher and parking lot racer, but I wouldn't put it against nitro tcs for the reasons previously mentioned unless they were sport ones (not pro cars). There is also no upgrade chassis for this car (the flat GT one will not work). I would reccomend getting a Trinity TK1200 brace; that does a lot in stiffening the rear end. Also, these cars are extremely durable. I've had mine for 4 years (almost 15 gallons of gas), and I have only needed to replace parts due to wear and tear. The car is 200mm so pretty much all 200mm bodies will fit. I've found you have to cut the wheel wells out a little more though since the rear tires have a larger diameter than standard touring car tires. If you do get this car, be sure to pick up a bearing kit, NDS manifold (not to be confused with either of the GT ones) and a tuned pipe. Bushings and canister mufflers get old really fast.

nIkKo
07-20-2002, 07:32 PM
Ok, well does anyone have pics of this car with a 200mm body on it and then a pic of the ar with the body off? How long would it take to get to 40 mph with this car since it doesnt have a two speed?

nIkKo
07-20-2002, 08:07 PM
Also would standard touring car tires and wheels work fine with this? I know that for a while i wont be doing any seriuos racing like at club races or anything, just with friends and draging or mostly bashing and stuff. So i think that i might just be better off getting the tc3 rtr, nitro one, and then putting a two speed in it because then when i wanted to race it i would be ready. Or would this car better suit me? For you people is it easy to find parts for this at your LHS? After getting the kit and replacing the pipe and putting bearings, how much woul it cost to get this car running great?

atm92484_3
07-20-2002, 08:37 PM
The NTC3 RTR is a really nice car with a lot of racing potential; the NDS is an inexpensive parking lot racer and basher. You can use standard touring car wheels and tires, but you need to convert the suspension using the instructions on AE's website (its pretty much a matter of buying parts and installing them).

Here are some pics of my NDS with a 200mm 1970 Boss Mustang body. I need to do another body.

Heres a pic with the body off. As you can see, I was fixing some stuff. Since the pic was taken, I've added a new heatsink (the MIP one). The version shown is actually the Nitro DS Sport. The Qualifier (only version made now), has plastic shocks, foam tires, the canister muffler, bushings, and no slipper clutch.

trxstr1961
07-22-2002, 05:24 AM
that is the version i own (qualifer)

GET THIS! emailed AE, and they said none of the "team" racers even run this car , so why did they come out with the "team Version:confused:

shouldnt be that hard, should it:confused:

atm92484_3
07-22-2002, 01:21 PM
When AE made this car, they were aiming at a whole new market. This car was meant for the parking lot racer (thats why is doesn't sit super low or have some of the fancy racing features). However, when many others followed, producing 4wd nitro touring cars, the NDS all but died since there wasn't really a class for it and they stood little chance against the nitro tcs. They are still fun cars though. I'm assuming the reason they called it the "Team" version is since it included equipment many other "Team" cars had (teflon shocks, universals, bearings, tuned pipe).

trxstr1961
07-29-2002, 08:01 AM

I was just looking through this thread and all I can say is, d*mn, these are some really cool vehicles. I wish my hobby shop carried them.

I own a TC3 powered by a brushless motor. My car is too powerful for any of the carpet tracks in my area so I have to run it on the local parking lots. The TC3 is not the best parking lot basher, it's too low to the ground and gets dirty way too quickly. Almost any slight bump in the pavement will send the car crashing out of control.

I could just get a buggy but they're too slow. The NDS looks like the perfect parking lot racer. Do they make an electric version of the NDS?

just buy a gt, thats the easiest way, plus it would be cheaper

I just saw this car at tower hobbies and im saving up for it since i have a big parking lot near my house. I have a tower .15x how much would i have to cut the crank to make it fit? I plan on getting bearings and the 0 degree rear suspension mounts. Wat other things do i have to look out for? thanks in advance

i dont know about crank cutting, but when you get it, make sure you add a TRS (throttle return spring) to your car.

GT .21 .26 conversion kit (http://www.neweramodels.com/cgi-bin/item.cgi?session_id=jpvibfucrbfqycoabjjftvqmwbthwv db&part_id=18)

has anyone tried doing this..., for my first rc nitro when i can afford it i was hoping to get a nds, this conversion kit and the o.s. .26 4 stroke...

Nitro 4 me
02-23-2004, 05:27 PM
That might be hard to do. The nds has been out of production for awhile. The RC10GT would be a better choice. 4 strokes are cool but not as fast as the 2 strokes.

ws6
02-24-2004, 07:53 AM
well the only reason i want 4 stroke is because they are bigger, most likely sound much better, better fuel mileage, and if i ever have to maybe even more fun to rebuild... even though the nds is out of production towwer hobbies still has them in stock, cheap too... i just hope they hold out until i get money...

Nitro 4 me

ws6

well... from what i hear they do... and i hate rice crap and that high reving sound, so since they rev lower it should sound much better in my opinion

edit: or were you talking about tower having them in stock..., because yeah they have them in stock for the low price of 110 dollars... heres the link (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LA2535&P=1)

I'm curious if regular 3/16" b3 wheels will work. I'm thinking of picking one of these up from Tower for a sprint car. Anyone know the axle sizes on these?
Also www.hobbyetc.com has alum arms, mounts and some other stuff for these on sale at almost nothing (like 10 bux a pr). My old gold tub RC10 sprinters were fun cars, hope this thread lives!!!

I still have mine. I had it out a few times over the summer but I didn't run it too hard since stock tires are no longer avaiable.

I doubt it would be worth making your 2nd one into a GT since the only parts you would use would be the tranny, fuel tank, and a few misc. plastic parts.

the main thing is to have fun.....I'll give you an example.....

I run an HPI r40.....and always do well with it(I'm usually in the top 5 out of 30 guys where we race......(we use road rail,transpnders,etc...)....just for laughs,at the end of the season last year,I ran the STOCK evo 3 I won the Ny HPI challenge with, against alll the pro cars....I still finished mid pack.....and had more fun doing it.....because I beat 'em with a stock car.....

thats what i'm talking about, having fun first :D . then raising a few eyebrows  . i switch my wheels to on road foam tires. the same found on pan cars, like the rc10l series. these tires are hard to find. but cheap when you do find them. car handles very good because the wide stance and looks great

they are the same wheels, used on the electric pan cars. like the aggresor, rc10l series, bolink cars of the 80's and 90's and some electric pan car, made by trinity. i use wheel adapters, install pan car wheels, on to rc10 series of cars

if the OFNA motor listed above is the one you are thinking of......remember,you need a short crankshaft for the DS....that ofna engine has a SG style crank...can't cut it..

you're better off with this motor...

Yes the DS was my favorite version of the RC10 series. Back in the day I ran "gearbox" class at my club. These were buggies converted to onroad. Parma made a fabulous 427 Cobra body that fit the RC10 perfectly. When AE came out with the DS it was like they read my thoughts. Only problem...like an idiot I traded it.
