This is one of the new Guillow laser cut kits (at least they're new to me). I've read several posts that recommend replacing all of the wood in the Guillow kits but I just couldn't resist all that laser cutting and I wanted to try the kit as is.
Equipment:
Radio: GWS R-4P
Servos: GWS Pico (rudder and elevator)
ESC: Castle pixie 7P
Motor: GWS DXA
Prop: 9x7
Battery: 7-cell 300mah nimh
Covering: Nelson LiteFILM
All up weight ready-to-fly is 8.4oz. The weight could be reduced alot by substituting some if not all of the wood that is supplied in the kit but I'm not sure it is necessary.
Test flight:
The first flight was a success.... The plane ROG'd in about 15' and required very little trimming. Since I didn't want to destroy it on the first flight I only fly some lazy circles and figure 8's to get the feel for her. The model is very stable and will maintain level flight at about 2/3 trottle. I'm not completely happy with the throttle response and felt the plane was a little sluggish so I think I will experiment with some differnent props on the next flight.
I did have a minor mishap when I brought her in for a landing. The glide was longer than I expected and when I tried to add power for a go-around the batteries were drained too much and I stalled her when I tried to climb over a fence at the edge of the field. The plane cartwheeled in the grass but luckily, the only damage was a couple of the wing struts had broken loose and a couple small holes in the covering. A little CA and some patches for the covering and she is good as new. Now if the weather would cooperate I'll be able to really wring her out. Oh well, this gives me time to finish putting the details on the plane.
