Can somebody tell me what a white china marker is? Bob Hastings uses it to paint lightnings.

Mr. Painter..
It is like a colored pencil..very thick. You have to use the string that is attached to get more"lead" out of it.

they are sometimes referred to as "grease pencils" and come in red, black, orange, yellow and white (that's all I know of) there may be more colours. YOu can usually get them in stationary stores.

Skip the china marker technique, it blows. If you have an arts and craft store near you, pick up an Opaque Paint Marker with a medium or fine tip. The results are much smoother and much more realistic.

Couldn't I just use masking fluid and paint the lightning after I did the darker colors?

You mean paint lines of liquid mask? I think that would be very difficult. I'd choose the toothpick method instead. Just dip a tooth pick in white paint and scribble the lightening on the body.
