hey guys, i baught an old rc10gt at a yardsale and i am getting it back in working order. the only snag i have run into is the shocks. they dont have a diaphram or foam or anything like that. just the shaft, body, seals, and the cap. how much oil do i put in these? any tips? i experemented and noticed that if iput too much oil in, the piston wouldnt go up to the top, and if i put to little i wouldnt have any rebound. help! anything is greatly appriciated!

Make sure you are screwing the Shock Cap on with the Piston all the way to the top. The Oil should be "bubbled" over the top of the shock body. When you screw the Cap down it should force the piston down slowly to the bottom.
If the piston does not move at all then it sounds like you are using a Oil thats to thick for the piston. Either goto a thinner oil or put a piston with a bigger damping hole in them.

After you've filled the shocks and have bled all the air out that you can from the oil, fill the shock to the top with oil and then add about two more drops after you've reached the top. Now take the cap and place about three drops of oil into it. Screw the cap back on the shock body. Wipe away all the excess oil and slightly open the cap back up. Move the shaft up and down slowly to work some of the oil out. Then reseal the cap and check the rebound. Shoot for about 3/8" to 1/4". Keep working the oil out until you've reached the desired rebound. This doesnt take any special talent just some patience.

Few more things - As for the oil, I'd stick with 25 weight oil. You could try experimenting with oils from 25 to 35 but I wouldnt go much heavier than that. Try #2 pistons all the way around, but I doubt the piston is going to affect the performance much for what you plan on doing with the car. Stern mentioned you should have the piston all the way to the top when you screw the cap on - not the case leave the piston at the bottom of the shock body then screw the cap on the shock. The piston will move in any weight shock oil that you use (maybe not in 10,000weight), but again I recommend 25 weight oil. Hope this helps.
