I like to know what best ESC for TRF414M2? I use futaba radio set and saddle packs. Turn 11 limit will be fine with me.

Hey all,
I've owned a pair of Tamiya TA03 chassis for a little over a year, and now I'm also a proud owner of a TRF414M2. I know the TRF414M2 a couple years old, but man, this is one sweet car. It needs electronics though. I want to get into club racing with it. I can't wait to get it running.

About the only thing left I could get for the car would be the blue aluminum upper and lower spring retainers ... oh, and titanium axles. It has everything else made, and I mean everything! Is usually sits on blue aluminum Tamiya setting wheels, but put the staggered 26mm/30mm foams on for that mean look :)
If I want to race it, I have a new Peak Vantage 10x1, Novak GTX, and a fresh unassembled 3600 pack from Yokomo! That would rip ... also have some killer 19T and Stock motors and a couple SMC 1.18+ packs for those classes.
Now lets see pics of yours Ted, oh ... that's right :p

Of all the cars, I really think the RCLab has the most potential ... to bad nobody here runs them. They're amazing cars, and you can get them dirt cheap. The one in the pictures weighs about the same as my 414M2, and has a stiffer chassis. I really like the Yokomo CGM too, easily the best tub chassis car I've ever had my hands on. I also wish more people would run 4wd electric buggies, nothing is more fun to drive on a track than one of those with a hot modified motor in it.

i dont know, my front sway bar on both my m2's mount on the front of the bulk head, and i have 2 xtra tie rods that go from my c hubs to the top of the upper chassis and the screw goes through to the top of the steering arm shaafts. the sway bar setup on mine is the same as on my 415.

Balugz
04-21-2005, 12:29 PM
Try DH: 415 pulleys can be used on a 414? Does the 415 pulleys have the same number of teeth?
TRF Drive Hard
04-21-2005, 01:03 PM
No, the 414 has 32 like the 04, the 415 has 35 ;) i got the 415 center pulleys in it too... i had to compensate for the larger pulleys with a kyosho's tf-4 long belt and one of hpi's short belt for the rear... :)
TRF Drive Hard
04-21-2005, 11:44 PM
Well i fitted EVO4 front and rear shock towers on my M2... looks pretty cool... i just have to do a lil dremel work on the screw holes... i got only 2 installed and so the others are a bit offset... once i get dremeled to size i'll be able to mount in the other screws ;)
Balugz
04-22-2005, 01:21 AM
TRF DH: How about the center pulleys, are they similar in terms of number of teeth? It would be nice if you could post some pics of the Evo4 towers. I wanted to see how much material should be removed for it to fit.
TRF Drive Hard
04-22-2005, 03:05 PM
I got a digicam but i dont have the USB cable to connect, i need to obtain one... as for the holes on the shock towers, id say about 2mm needs to be shed... then the screws will mount perfectly... :) oh and the teeth on the center pulley is 16... its 1 up from a 15... ;)
Balugz
04-23-2005, 01:24 PM
TRF DH: I did saw a 414 last time equipped w/ a 415 shock towers. Looks really great in my opinion. Having a 415 kit yourself, are the holes on the 415 towers a bit more further apart compared to 414 and Evo4? Minor modification is necessary according to the owner but to how much material has to be shave off, i have no idea.
TRF Drive Hard
04-23-2005, 05:47 PM
Ya the rear is considerably wider than the front... so i would stick with the evo4 towers as they are the exact length with the exception of mount 2 of the holes...
TRF Drive Hard
04-24-2005, 05:48 PM
Well i just got done rewiring my M2... totally hard-wired throughout... replaced my Novak Explorer2 with my trusty Novak Atom :D and assembled a new set of batteries... now all i gotta do is mod my shock towers to fit the reat of the screws, give her a test run and she should be ready to race :) hopefully i can get pics soon... ;)
TRF Drive Hard
04-24-2005, 07:59 PM
OK OK OK, i couldnt wait to test her... wow she screams "grip me baby grip me!!!"
This thing flies!!! absolutely no front-one way, direct center pulley... fully direct drive!!! seems like the wcr specs hold up pretty well :D
Pics to come and the following mods made ;)

Well i converted my M2 with SSG upper and lower but kept the evo4 shock towers... the original M2 chassis was just a test to see how well the car handled with the 415 gears... so next was swapping the carbon chassis for ssg... first was to cut out holes for the front and rear to expose the pulleys... originally the pulleys had about .25mm clearance... which left it susceptable to debris chewing the belt and pulleys... but never came across that problem... but just to ensure the problem wont occur, i cut out using a circle template, almost an inch in diameter, 15/16th of an inch to be exact... nice perfect circles done by my trusty dremel and steady hand... the process didnt take long but the hole swapping took about an hour to finish... another mod i made was to the upper deck... since im using evo2 steering post they are a bit taller than the normal 414 post... so originally the upper deck stood about 2-3mm taller... i wanted to lower it back to its original hieght which i succeded... again using the dremel with semi-cone sand bit i expanded the hole where the screw mounts to the post... i fitted to size with the post's diameter... now it fits normal with a screw and washer holding it down... nifty work i did if i may say ;)

TRF DH: What tools should I use for modifying a 415 or Evo 4 towers for my 414? Do you think a 3mm carbide drill bit plus a dremel enough for the job?
TRF Drive Hard
05-04-2005, 03:34 PM
3mm sand bit is better... it can grind better than a metal bit which can leave carbon splinters...
415 rear shock tower wont fit, its too wide cause then you'll have to drill new holes... the evo4 shock towers are better and require little modifications ;)

makes the car roll less, handles bumps better, keeps the rear a little more planted.

I'm about to buy my 1st new set of tires and hopefully find out whether my old tires w/c I got from another driver is causing my car to understeer or the car itself has an understeering characteristics. That's why I'm curious if the DJ upgrade will makes the car turn more.
