View Full Version : Schumacher is going to make SteveP cry!

Why? Well, According to the new issue of RCCA (May 2002) Schuamcher is in the process of making a 1/10 scale touring car with a 3 speed tranny and a .21 engine called the Schumacher Fusion . According to Schumacher, they hope this car will be able to reach a top speed of 85MPH! I think it's going to be a production car too. Can you imagine? Here's SteveP blowing $4,000 on his 100MPH project car, and Schumacher is going to release a car that's probably going to be a lot less than $4,000. Probably with a couple gear ratio changes on that 3-Speed(Cool!) It will reach 100MPH. Will Steve cry?
Philip S:p
P.S. This is not relevant information, just a guess(except for the top speed of 85MPH)

I think thats kinda dumb of schumacher. There will be some serious liablity on a car that fast. Just think of the what it could do it if hit a person going 85mph??? Broken angles, legs...

I dont see how thats any different than a 1/10 with a .12. You hit someone with one of those and man are they going to be hurting. Thumbs up to Shumacher for going all out on this one.

Hopefully it will put an end to all those "my car does 65-75 mph" stories. We can just measure it up to the Fusion. But, I can't imagine some of our more ham-fisted fellow r/c-ers with a car capable of this kind of speed. That's a scary thought.

Geesh you would be outta range before you know it. That computes to like 125 feet/second. It still would be pretty cool
to watch.

you should get away from your computer sometime this year..
what do most 1/8buggies weigh.. much more than a 1.10th sedan.. think if one of those hit you going 50 or so..
most 1/8 onroad cars can reach 90 easily..
have you ever been to an RC boat race??
most .45 hydros tunnels can go 80 to 90..
out practicing my friends .45 wooden dumas hit a an alum row boat and went right out the other side and was hardly scratched after doing so..

I didn't even think about checking the "New Products" forum at all!:o :p . Still, I didn't see anything written about Steve P. Crying!
This will go up to: "Can a Man Cry"?

we must hand it to schumacher on this one, however there will be many broken parts/legs from this car. could you imagine just trying to drive a car on a track(or on the street) at speeds like taht?

I've got to agree with A Team here.
Now that Nitro is the mainstream R/c choice ("when I was a lad it was all electric, and you could buy a bar of chocolate for tuppence etc..."), we're putting more and more frankly lethal r/c vehicles in the hands of inexperienced/mechanically unsure drivers.
Things like the Thunder Tiger EK4 with the .70 engine, and this Schumacher Fusion (which I hope never goes into production), are accidents waiting to happen.
It's great fun running the car around the park on a sunny day, but that EK4 truck, if run by an inexperienced driver, without a failsafe say, or without being properly maintained, could literally kill a small child, and really mess up a grown up (4kg object at 50mph).
I've had a couple of sore ankles in my time from electric buggies - 1.6kg at 25mph - a fifth of the force.
I'm very worried that someone is going to get badly hurt or killed by an r/c car, and that the story will go public, leading to a battering down of the hobby (the need for vehicles to be licensed, or restricted to private land etc.)

i can't believe you ppl would fret so much over a TOY!!
do you ppl drive around on public streets??
ever been on a motorcycle?
ever live??
i would not worry so much about an RC car killing you from a solid blow to your foot, and worry more about the air you breath..

Ok then, you get on your knees and let my 11lb thunder quake hit you dead on @ 40mph and tell me you wouldnt hurt you, let alone a small child. A friggin baseball coming at ya @ 80mph will drop most people to the ground and that only weighs 5 to 5 Ľoz

i do believe that a speeding nitro could possibly kill a small child but so could a drunk driver behind the wheel of a car or a motorcycle. you gotta think that there are alot of other things that could kill a small child or mangle an adults leg. not just an R/C car.

i just hope that this rc car is in responcible hands. like steves or jeeps(ok jeep may not be he most responcable but hey) dragger man or someone responcible. not just some newbie that dosent know how to drive a rc car yet. not someone thats going to use 3 yr olds as track markers orsomone that enjoys driving there rc car to cause trouble i would love this rc car but im not going to get it becuse i dont think i could control it at 85 mph

I just wanna see a vid or review on it. Me testing one out, I;d have to follow it with a car on the highway to keep up, faster than highway speed!

Hey wisearse, how else should I explain being 3 foot shorter then a kid rather then saying put your kid out there and run into to him/herand see if they get hurt. Do yourself a favor and keep your stupid comments to yourself.

use some common sense..
when you do something dangerous you take precations..
when we run our boats that can blast through rowboats, we make sure everybody is out of the water and back away from the shore..
like i said, if they are dumb enough to get in front of it..
grow up, and get some sense..

Man, you really gotta keep your negative comments to yourself. People like you are what is tearing this board up, it really maddens me to be involved in a nice clean thread like this one was untill someone with their smart comments come in and tear it apart, I am just trying to help out here and never want to screw with people's enjoyment of this BB. Now if you could please stay on topic and just talk about the CAR itself and not of stupid people getting hit.

Everyone is talking about how stupid it is to think that an RC could kill someone, and talking about how fast their RC's are. Yes a rc boat could go through the hull of a row boat but you dont see many newbies with nitro boats. I think in the hands of an experianced driver it would be ok, but imagine trying to control an offroad truck, with soft suspension, and high CG at 80mph. Most people couldnt even control a 1/8th at 70 (applying to most bashers and newbie racers). Also tire wear would be attrocious, and it a car crashed doing 80 parts would DEFINENTLY break. I doubt a person would be killed, but there is always the chance, and could become public and make peole think RC is bad and dangerous. Which is not true, RC RUUUULLLEEEESSS. And neighbors would call the police and hassle you if a kid was out front with an RC doing 80 in their neighborhod. For an RC to stop at 80 it would roughly 140ft, so if a car pulled out they wouldnt have the time or reflexes to stop the car. A more importent fact that you guys are forgeting is, imagine if a kid was driving it in the street, lost radio control and the car took off onto a busy street, made REAL cars swerve to try and miss it, and therefore cause a huge pileup of cars and possibly some fatalities....

It's not the fault of the car or the car manufacturer. It's the fault of the driver. RC helicopters are way more dangerous then RC Cars, yet the Hobby of RC Helicopters is flourishing.

Ok about this discussion of an RC killing or hurting a person . Remember the fact section about the HPI from the nitro issue of SteveP testing the HPI? It said a car at that weight and speed has the power of a man swinging an ax at full force? So it could hurt someone, but doubtly because people who buy those cars are experinced. I bet that Schumacher will have an age license or something like that to buy this car.If your talking about danger, What about those 1/2 scale RC planes? If that thing loses control, it could fly into danger.

My point was, you dont see newbies flying 1/2 planes, helicopters, or nitro boats. The people who run those are very experianced and have been controling those types of RC's for years, and those RC's tend to be VERY expensive. But look at the tmaxx, its costs around 400$ and tons of newbies have it, so picture a nitro car under 400$ that can do 80..... Then newbies could afford it and would want to impress there friends with it cause it can go so fast.

There are newbies in every hobby, there are accidents in every hobby. The dangers are inherent, it's not going to affect the hobby at all, it may even help it grow. Don't worry about it.

i fully agree..
there are things far more dangerous in life than RC cars..
ppl dwell to much on the bad stuff that 'could' happen..
i try to focus on the enjoyment of the few things that i find enjoyment in.. if all we did was safeguard ourselves against what might or could happen, what would be the point of living..
