Thanks for that info. :)
Personally, I am not really interested in the chassis and deck. However, the tires are looking hot
Is it still possible to find foam tires and the wider rear rims? I heard these foam tires for SuperTen are ridiculously scarce.

By the way, good luck with the auction. I bet there will to be at least three scary-last-second-bidders aiming at it. I look forward to see it on ebay.

I may be able to get foam front and rear tires. Found some a few days back but funds went for other parts. If you are still looking, e-mail me at gaf42@yahoo.com I will check tonite to see what is left.

There is a guy, (don't know if he's still selling on eBay), but I bought a set of foam tires (wider rears) for my F-Ten that will work on the FW03 too since the hubs are the same size. Its extremely rare to find some foams for an FW04 now though.

I never knew the "high ratio ring gear" was available with diff gears. (never saw it advertised) I've only seen it for a ball diff...hum

Finally found my viscous, and some one asked for the 2sp instructions too.

Hi Everyone,

First post here, please excuse noobness.

Let's just say a 'long' time ago on a trip to Japan, I picked up an FW04 kit, a bunch of hop-up parts, and an OS 15RX. It took some hacking but I did get the OS to fit, and work with the 2 speed. I got lots and lots of reliable fun out of the car, especially given the power the RX puts out. So much power that it eventually caused the 2speed to fail.

The car had been sitting dormant for about 3 years due to that 2 speed, until I decided to bring it back to life. I recently got a used FORM 2speed from eBay, and patcher her back up. On the second tank of gas, I finally shredded a rear tire to bits. Thankfully the wheel is still intact, but now I need a new FW04 rear tire,.. preferably a whole set.

Where oh where can I find new tires?? I would love a new set, and even a spare set of wheels.

Thanks in advance,

-mahlzeit

Few months ago I gave two UK websites that still carry a lot of the kyosho parts. Ben Racing was one of them.
I said I'd give Ben a try and I did. Unfortunatley, things turned nasty. It was like this:

Before I making my payment, I emailed Ben (yep, the owner) about the availabilities for the parts, and he readily replied to all the inquiries.
2 weeks after I made my payment I emailed him again regarding the order status and he never replied back. I tried 5 times and he just kept ignoring me.
Eventually I had to get my refund from paypal.

Maybe other people here would strongly disagree with this incident of mine. Perhaps it was just a bad luck. But either way I would never be able to trust Ben Racing again. However, being the one who posted the link, it is my responsibility to point out their questionable way of bussiness.

For now I would only order parts from Time Tunnel (http://www.goldstarstockists.com/tamiyaparts/tpx/kyosho.htm)or Kyosho America.

By the way, you can order viscous coupling and tires and many other things from Kyosho America (http://www.shopkyosho.com/), if you are in North America. Or from Time Tunnel, but they are more expensive.

I'm using FW04 wheels with HPI SNRS4 tires. You won't be able to run the staggered wider rear tires in the back but I find the FW04 already understeers plenty.

Dan: so you are running front sized wheels at all four corner?

CONTENDER: what are RJ's? You are running same sizes all the way around?

I found the K-Zeros on the Kyosho site, in both sizes :) They are listed in various compounds:

92684-30V K-ZERO WIDE SLICK TIRE #3 $22.00
92683-30V K-ZERO SLICK TIRE #30V $22.00
92684-40 K-ZERO WIDE SLICK TIRE#40 $22.00
92683-25 K-ZERO SLICK TIRE#25 $22.00
92683-40 K-ZERO SLICK TIRE#40 $22.00

What is softer? The higher number or the lower number???

Thanks guys, you're being extremely helpful!

-mahlzeit

SerraAvatar
12-01-2007, 11:13 AM
I don't know which is softer, but the smaller the number, the harder the grip.

pleaseletmeon34
12-01-2007, 12:54 PM
I believe RJ's are RJ Rides. Some people call them "Rides". The SNRS4 used the same width tire on all 4 corners.... so if they are using HPI wheels and tires, yes they are using all the same width.

The Kyosho tires... 25 is the softest (sticky, more grip but shorter life), 40 is the hardest (less grip but longer life).

:), you have a point there. The funny thing was, I was intent on winning that body, and was surprised it got that high, but whomever this mystery person was, they were not going to be out bid. That same day, there was a Porsche GT1 body unpainted, and guess who one it, the same person. Outbid everyone on that item as well.

I know eh!! To be honest, I had my eyes on that body (not the precut unpainted one tho, it was only available to the US) from the day it was listed. As soon as I saw the price exceeded $70 I thought oh well... might just well get HPI 280mm boides instead since they are about $30/ea, for the same price I could buy 4 or 5 of them.
These good superten parts have completely become collector's items. Feel good to own a FW04 here lol:D

Edit: yes! my 50th post! last time it got deleted due to the sever breakdown :)

I said the same thing. For now, I will have to stick with hpi bodies, and if I come across any Kyosho 280mm bodies for a good price, I will try to snatch them up. As for my quest for picking up a superten, I have to put that project on hold for a while. The couple that I have seen on ebay were really nice, but outside my budget for RCs this year.

ImpulseGTP, I'm not really sure. I have never tried to actually run Kyosho rims on my SN. Now if I recall correctly, I don't think the Kyosho wides will fit the SN when it's set at 280mm and will only fit if the car is set at 300mm (rubs the header at 280mm).

Nice chassis Gaf... as you can see by Contenders post what a nice body and wheels do for a car.

I have a Superten in need of some attention and will paint and post shortly. I took a belt sander to the dirty green foam bumber and it looks new.

Its kind of a mutant because I installed a larger gas tank on the drivers side, but it has a new chassis and top plate.

I also have a Picco RS-600 complete with the original electronics and engine. Its a little dusty but is going to clean up nice... will post too

Here is my SuperTen. As you can see it needs a lot of work. I ordered the low profile mesh rims from Kyosho America and I have the tires front and rear.

What I would like to add is an OS Lay Down engine or 4 stroke engine and a nice body ... McLaren if I can find it or my last resort is the one I have the HPI BMW V12 LMR.

I do have a new GT1 body from my Ften but not sure if it fits. I would also like a 2 speed Tranny if I can get one. The 2 speed that came with the care is stripped and you cant replace the gears on the housing (bad design)

Anyway any help on restoring and hopping it up would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like a great starting point.

Do you restore it as a shelf queen? lol. I know most do but I also know a few who occassionally use it for " exhibition run" lol

I believe that the engine will stick out a lot from the body and if you cannot find LD or 4 stroke, I think the OS CV series will be a good alternative which you should be able to get for cheap on the bay. A lot of the supertens in those days are on the OS CV series as well.

Looking good!!!!

Here are my before pictures of the Picco RS600. From what I understand this car was manufactured when Picco and Kyosho were working together. I will have to get some history on it.

It has everything from the original build... even some old electronics. All Im going to do is clean it and put a nice body on it. Its been used gently so I will start it and run it a little bit just to see how it handles.

The foams are in pretty good shape but the rims could use a little sanding and buffing.

The engine is a Picco .21 but not sure which model. This car came across the pond from Germany. I got it at a good price but shipping was almost as much as the car!!

How bout that air filter :p

As far as the tires are concerned im still trying to find a set of treaded tires but there are some slicks that will fit the front wheel from HPI super Nitro RS4 tires. But the rear wide wheel you will have to check on Ebay

Yeah the receiver goes right in that little cubby hole in front of the clutch bell. I have to make a reciever box or just attach a receiver box from another kit.

I did find an LD engine and a 4 stroke on ebay... watchin em now. Hopefully I wont have to sell the farm to get one of them.

My rims should be here any day then it will at least look drivable. Ive got a Cuda body for a TMaxx, I wonder if it will fit. I would love to get an original Kyosho Superten body but I know thats askin a lot. Who knows... might get lucky.

I have a FW04 shelf queen as well with a pristine castrol supra body I bought from Tower before they ran out of stock. I'm curious about the FZW56- does it include a pinion and clutch bell, or is it just the tranny? It looks like shopkyosho has it in stock, which is just about the only place I've found that does. Any thoughts on this? I don't race my FW04 (it is simply too beautiful to risk) but thought the 2-speed would be a nice addition.

Im gonna try some adhesive backed vinyl decal paper I found on the net that is printable on an ink jet.

I'm sure you have some kind of editing software in your puter (I think you can even do it with paint). I use ACDSee (came with my printer). Before I upload any pics I pick the ones I want to post and resize them (but I give them a new name so I still have the originals). I usually take them down to 850-900x because thats the limits on other forums.

With ACDSee, I click enhance, then resize. Then save it with a new name.

The thing I like about posting from my site is that there is no format restriction or size limit. For these I just print screened the photos in the email, saved them as jpegs and uploaded to my site. Then supplied the link and BAM!

Thanks Toad I like the Traxxas touch too... kinda gives it a one-of-a-kind look

Hi every one
I have some comment on the OS LD .12/.15 engine there good and strong. I know had both, then sold them. when I ran into a problem with the air filter it won't stay on unless you make a hole over where the filter sit's every time I ran I lost the filter and the another thing because the engine was so low the engine would get hot fast had to run it rich. I like speed

I always wondered how those LD engines ran. I heard they didnt have a lot of power... now I see why - probably because you had to run it rich to avoid
overheating.

They look cool tho

I like your car Nitro, it looks alot cleaner than before. i didnt think the t-maxx header and pipe would look right on an S10, but yours look kinda cool.

Hey Toad welcome to the forum, I m from Queens. :)

Thanks Impulse. Yeah I cleaned it up, found a set of new tires I have no idea where I got them or why, belt-sanded my foam bumper again and put the foam bumper posts in a drill and polished them.

I got this car from a guy at Castle Creations about 6 years ago and I only bought it because it originally came with a Collari .15 engine. When I saw this forum I dug out the car and started working on it.

Hi Nitronutz, and thanks for the compliments
I noticed that the Evo body is pretty hard to find, i guess the Kyosho europe still has, but is a bit expensive, something like 50 $ less or more.
I have senn on ebay time ago some hpi Mitsubishi bodies, but as they are 300mm , they dont fit.
Yeah i was still rich, as i was in the break in.
If you scroll the page down, i have posted a pic of the naked chassi and a video of the first full-trottle:)
Now, as i'm using 16% nitro, and as the os cvr 18 is designed for up 30% nitro, i have removed a 0,05 gasket from the head, and i really want to see now how it goes:))
As i learn how to post pics here, i'll do with more chassis pics!!!
See you all soon!!:)

I just picked up a gem on Ebay. It wasnt listed as a Superten but Im almost positve thats what it is. Its the GP 4WD model before the FW-03 and it has the lay down engine I have been searching for for months.

Hey guys,

Been awhile since I have been into the hobby and need your expertise in what a Kyosho F-Ten Formula Sports is worth. It is brand new and has not been assembled. I also have a bunch of spares for it (all in unopened packages) including

2 speed tranny
Knuckle arms - 2ea
Suspension Arm Set -3ea
Center Bulkhead
Rear Bulkhead
Muffler
Fuel Tank
Front Bulkhead
Rear wing
Upper Plate
Small Parts Set
Shock Spring Set - 2ea
Front Belt
Main Shaft
Counter Shaft

The box has been opened, but like I said never assembled. I do want to sell, but have no idea what it is worth these days. And to answer the main question now, I do not want to break it up/part it out, even the spares.

Any help or offers would be great.

Thanks

Brian

And yes I will ship anywhere.

PS I am not located in Germany anymore, unfortunetly, I am in Las Vegas.

nitronutz

Welcome Mun

I spent some time in Vegas on a project... loved it still considering moving there. As far as your F-Ten is concerned I would not accept any less than $350.00 for the car alone. Its rare to find one unassembled. For the parts probably $100+.

I bought mine on EBay several years ago and paid $300.00... the kit is even rarer now.

Since youre from Germany you must know they still have a version of the F-Ten the Kyosho F2004 only available there. See link below

http://www.f2004.de/de/html/modell/techdat.html

Theres a guy Ftam that sells one on EBay for about 800.00. I actually bought the wheels for that car from a guy in Germany. Apparently you can only get this car a part at a time with a subscription to some magazine there.

So don't worry if it wont sell... believe me it will. If I didn't already have one I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Do you have the F1 body or the GT1 body?

nitronutz
03-01-2008, 05:26 PM

I will buy your 2 speed tranny today if youre willing to sell it. Give me a price.

Much better pics Antonio... car looks great... nice and clean. You still never told me where you got the foam tires.

I bought a set a while ago but the hex opening and axle hole were too big although the guy claimed they would fit the Superten and the Super Nitro
RS4.

I ended up getting the wheel adapters from WolfPack Radicals that allow you to bolt on Serpent 1/8 scale foams. But they adapters would not fit my Superten so I put them on my Super Nitro RS4.

03-01-2008, 05:42 PM
Thanks for the reply. As for now I would like to just try and sell everything together first. If that doesnt pan out then it looks like I will be parting it out, for the spares at least.

Thanks

Hi nitronutz, and thanks.I found the foams tires on ebay a guy from hong kong was used to seel it, and he told are for the supernito hpi and the superten. They fit perfectly in the mine and in the supertens. Also i bougth rims without foams, that were produced for the superten and the gp10.As i'm not finding any foam, i'll try to see if the donut foams of the 1/8 on road will fit.Hope i'll be lucky!!!

And yes is really a shame that i cannot find the foams from the kyosho, will be really great as so.Dont you all agree?
Also i know that in germany (i'm from italy)they have foams for the new f-ten f2004, but never saw them on ebay, just knew that local shop has.So i'm looking if there is some that ship abroad.

Yeah foams from Kyosho would be great but I think they are pushing their Inferno GT so dont look for any soon.

I will hunt for them, somebody has to be selling those foams somehere in the world. I would love to run my superten on foams since Ive never even broken in the Traxaas engine and pipe.

For my other ST, I will just use slicks from Kyosho. The HPI slicks for the Super RS4 will fit but they dont have much grip.

but on this forum i saw that the fw03 competition had foams from kyosho, them are discontinued?

These look like the same bogus wheels I bought. I just emailed KGarage and asked for the diameter of the hole and the width of the hex. We shall see...

(Unless I am a bit clueless and the hex and hole on the FW-04 IS that much bigger)

Hi guys, here my pics: 1rst and second the originals wheels and tyres, compared to the foams i have.the diameter of the hole and the hex is exactly the same, 4mm&12mm
The same for the whees that i'm going to use if i find the foams 4mm and 12mm.
The only i need are some washers to put on the hex (included with the foam and of the rigth shape, also 4 mm and 12 mm)

pleaseletmeon34
03-06-2008, 06:37 PM
The FW-03 had a 12mm hex and the wheels were held on with a nut. You can use HPI SNrs4 wheels on these.

The FW-04 had a larger hex and the wheels were held on with a bolt. These won't interchange with the earlier models or HPI.

pleaseletmeon34
03-07-2008, 12:19 AM
Ya I'd like to see pictures of what you have. I don't know of any super10's with a 3 or 4mm axle.

"Before" the FW-04, they had 5mm axles (part number OT-17 front, and OT-18 rear) that road on 5x10 bearings. It tapered down (used a tapered hex washer) to 4mm and uses a 4mm "nut" to hold the wheel on.

His ride one page back (post 1334) with the LD engine is an older one (you can see the wheel nuts).

The FW-04 is the only one that has 6mm axles, and is the only one that has "bolts" holding the wheels on.

nitronutz
03-07-2008, 01:15 AM
Thanks for the diagram Please!

So then the FW-04 wheels have a larger hex because of the larger hole... ok I get it now. The FW-04 is the one from another planet...

So I can either get the hex adapters for the FW-04 and a sleeve for the axle or sell my foam set and cut my losses.

Thanks for your input too Toad...

pleaseletmeon34
03-07-2008, 01:36 AM
I don't know if there is an adapter to allow for the 04 wheels to fit the older cars.... there might be? The car wasn't that popular here in the states, parts were hard to come by let alone hop-ups.

I don't think you will be able to use the 04 hexs... totally different setup. Its straight through 6mm where as yours is tapered 5 to 4mm.

You can still down load the 04 manual from Kyosho... give you a better idea whats different about the car.

nitronutz
03-07-2008, 09:34 AM
Thanks for the info Please. I'll just sell my foams. I'm not gonna really run my ST anyway, its just a shelf car.

It's kind of a hybrid I have some FW-04 wheel guards, Traxxas engine pipe and reciver box, a roll bar made from something from some car, a fuel tank and filter from an MP 777 and a carbon fiber shock tower brace froms Mugen

All I need to do is connect some electricity to the bolts on its neck and...

the 2 axles on the top are kyosho, the left one comes from the Special Option Version fw04 and comes with the black chassis 2speed . The one on the right comes from superten GP it don't come with the radio box , it's not fw04 series. the only way for you to swap axels is to swap the bearing and the housing for the axle of the fw04 series and MAYBE it will fit good luck hope this help's. :)

ok antonio77
i saw the pipes you told me to look at, very nice i like that JPL pipe looks like it will clear that tire the kyosho pipe looks good also but its in germany
and the last time i tryed to buy something from over sea's, i'm still waiting. your video looks cool you want more punch turn your low end needle in some till you get what you want but remember to bring the top out so your not so lean. was that the cvr.18 or the .15 i like the body your running its stable. and yes the weigth of the superten is just wright for the TZ LOL

03-15-2008, 09:36 AM
Hi Toad
is the cvr 18, yes i should do that, i was still a bit rich as the break-in was just ended. Also i think i should adjust the gears changing, but the spring of the 2 speed clutch seems too much soft.
About the pipes in my opinion the carbon look of the vantage is the best:D
but are all nice i think
i have the kyosho black, but still didnt tried, and on the contrary of the other 2, is an efra pipe, so the diameter of the hole is 5,2mm.
i was running another kyosho pipe , the TRW-05, that is built for the torque and have a 7mm diameter (the vsw-08 is for high rpm)
Maybe using the efra one, i'll save some fuel:D

The CVR is New then wait a lil more trust me that engine is sick you'll see what i mean when breakin is finish, break it in with the traxxas CD if don't have the CD then go to traxxas.com i use the the same breakin they use and my CVR is one sick ride on the rs4 super nitro. about the 2speed, take it out look at the spring in side you can change that the part #39014-2, it's sim spring set 8x16mm

OK LETS START WITH THE CVR .18, TO MUCH POWER THE CAR IS LIGHT.
I WOULD GO WITH AN .12 PRO TURBO SOMETHING WITH 3 TO 5 PORT. IT'S REALLY ALL UP TO YOU. WHERE YOU GOING TO RUN THIS CAR ON TRACK, I WOULD GO WITH THE .12 POR VEGA OR NOAROSSI JUST INCASE THEN YOUR LEGAL FOR THE TRACK , NOW IF IT'S GOING TO BE MROE OF A STREET CAR THE GO WITH THE .18

Hi Toad,
i have ball differentials, front and rear, but they arent working good, they dont have traction; when the engine is running high , the car isnt as fast as the engine rpm! actually the balls slips.
Also using the brake, they slips and the car is hard to stop.
i checked them, tight the screw, putted some new grease but was just a bit better.
Also a spring, in the front diff., and a Thrust Race, still in the front diff., were badly ruined.
I wonder what it is.:(
maybe the engine too much powerfull? with the old kyosho gs15 never had problems, but i dont think so becouse it slips not just accelerating, but braking also

Hi everyone it good to see you. I need help everyone??? I need to know more about my car and what upgrades i should do or can do. I have a SuperTen GP 4 WD that came with a Mclaren GTR body. I also bought at that time a OS.15CZ moter(not a pull start). The last time i ran this car was 2000 when i was in Greece. I just put the car togeather a couple weeks ago. I had in parts in a box for so many years. The reason why i put my car back together is because my friend and cuzin bought a hpi. And i miss the rc world. So just got back into it. I went to my local hobby shops 3 of them but they cant help me (no parts or body that would fit they said. And kyosho told me that they are discontinued...The only thing i am missing is the back black wheel that it came with i think i left it in greece>>>F_K... I would like to find a pair if anybody selling or know were i can get one.. or Mclaren GTR body that it came with..... I also would like to know what size body i could put on car and were can i find wheels and tires or what size can i use. I am lost People any help will be great. Thank you all i am so glad that i found this sight. I

04-04-2008, 03:27 PM
If yours is an FW03, you can slap on HPI Super Nitro tires and wheels on it with no problems. If you have an FW04, you will need the Kyosho or Cross wheels that are specific to the FW04. However, you can run HPI Super Nitro tires on those wheels (except the wider staggered setup.)

HPI 280mm bodies will work on the Supertens. You can run 300mm with some slight modification on the wheel cutouts.

Thanks Dan but how could i find out wich one it is. I bought this 1999 and kept it in the box after 2000 untill to weeks ago...

pleaseletmeon34
04-04-2008, 06:11 PM
If you still have the original box, and if its an FW-04, it'll probably say so on the box. I never heard or saw the name FW-03 on anything till the 04 came out.

But other then that, take a look at the wheels. The 03 has nuts holding them on, the 04 has bolts. (take a look back at page 55)

The 03 wheels were used on some later models (TR-15 series), so they might be easier to find.... if thats what you need.

04-05-2008, 03:08 AM
Hi Toad, you mean i should tight the screw of the differential?i think i did, but on the rear differential i have a normal screw, and i'm not able to tight it more.on the fron t i have an hex screw so is easier to tight.dont understand why kyosho made the same diff.with 2 different kind of screw.

For Yanny. Here is Europe Kyosho still have all replacement parts for the fw04, not for the fw03, from bodies to tires, check it up kyosho.it or kyosho.de into discontinued models or just searching for the number part.
they have all
If you have the fw03 you can buy tires of the ferrari f2004, and bodies of tr15 rally or of the hpi supernitro avaibles on towerhobby.com

Hi guys, haven't been here for a while and so happy to see the forum staying active. Nice to see all the new faces too!

Just a quick question: how do I adapt the X312T Engine to my FW04? What clutch do you guys prefer? I'm also concerned about the engine mount, I heard Kyosho low height mount FZW63 works but FZW61 doesn't. I'm thinking about K-Factory one piece engine mount but not sure if that works either.

Could any of you brilliant and nice people out there give a newbie like me some suggestions :p, thanks and take care!

Dan H
04-05-2008, 09:38 PM
The F2004 tires won't really work well since you'll need the F2004 wheels and even then, it will look funky since its for an F1 car, not a touring car.

antonio77
04-06-2008, 09:13 AM
Hi again guys
For Dan h
yes is tru what you say, but i meant the tires for the f-ten, kyosho still produce them for the "new" f2004, so they are perfect for touring:)
Anyway, i repeat, in Europe are still avaiable from Kyosho, all the parts for the fw04 and the f-ten.

Toad, any news about ball diff.?

pleaseletmeon34
04-06-2008, 12:30 PM
Hi antonio,

F-ten wheels and tires "are" super 10 wheels and tires. These same wheels were used on the TR-15. The F2004-F2005 had a different wheel and tire. That tire won't fit on the super 10 wheel. But.... you could probably use the 2004-05 wheel "and" tire on the S10. But like Dan said.. not sure how it will look.

Other thing is, they are not available here in the US. I have a few, but they were hard to get and the shippng is BIG $$$$$.

antonio77
04-07-2008, 08:47 AM
Yes is true , but i meant the f-ten tires, that are still avaviable here in europe, as the fw04 tires.
of course the f1 look tires of th f2004 are a weird choice for the touring:D
another thing is that hpi supernitro tires are also easy to find, i guess more in the usa than here in europe

Yanni,

flip that motor over and take a pic of the other side. If there is a "z" on the case, its a CZ12Z... if not, its a CZR 12 with a "Z" head on it. OS never made a .15 in that stile block (car engine). But, It could/might have a cheater OFNA .15 P/S in it.

Ok, I've finally been getting around to rebuilding my other FW04 that I bought on eBay a while back. Its missing a few parts so I'm curious if anyone has engine mounts for sale. Also need an aftermarket clutch. Is anyone using an HPI racing clutch? I heard its the same size and will fit, but I'm not sure. Hey Dan,

The optional mount for the S10 to allow an OS engine was the FD-20. Thats the stock mount to a VoneR - RREvo. Also the mount 39648 was an option for both the S10 and VoneR will fit. Then there was a low profile mount for the VoneR (its not much...still used the same flywheel) VZW029...that should work if the other two do.

"Then", there is the even lower mounts that came on the FW-05R and VoneRRR....I would think they would work (same bolt pattern), I have them in my RREvo. But you will need one of the two smaller flywheels. (did someone say 3d clutch?? You would just have to find the pinions for a VoneR, RR as the pitch is different on the EVO and later) So if they work, you "should" be able to use the RRR one piece mount, as there is plenty of room on the S10.

Anybody tried any of those combinations?

When the FW-04 came out there was a couple of more mounts and flywheels too, I just don't have the numbers.

edit; tried to load pics of the mounts... but they are already here on in another thread.

hi pleaseletmeon34
is this the motor mount your talking about, KYOSHO V ONE RR EVO Engine Mount 4mm Screw Hole.

pleaseletmeon34

They look aftermarket, but very similar to the 39648.

http://www.shopkyosho.com/product/part_number=39648/410.0

The FD-20's and 39648's have been around a loooong time.

Take a look at the pictures in the link in post 1471 above. They are all Kyosho mounts, and all have 3mm screws

Hey Pleaseletmeon, Thanks for the link to the clutch thread! That was exactly what I needed.

I was having the same concern about the flywheels. Seems to me the flywheel for V-One RRR is exactly what I need for my FW04. I always have trouble with my recoil starting engines.

Has any of you tired K-Factory's UFO 3D Clutch (http://www.kfactoryracing.com/production.jsp?id=K1914&pageNum=1)? I'm not advertising it or anything, just wondering because I am planning on switching to the push-type clutches but don't want to waste money on something that wouldn't work on my FW04.

Edit: Hey Pleaseletmeon, if not too much trouble, could you confirm that the one-piece engine mount will work on the S10 please? A year ago I inquired about the dimensions of the mount but the data I received from the technical reps disagree with 39648. Sorry that I don't have the dimension anymore but I remember they are too large for S10

pleaseletmeon34

That I can not... I've never had a one piece mount. But..

S10 optional mount = FD-20, and 39648
VoneR - RREvo stock mount = FD-20
VoneR - RREvo optional mount = 39648, and low profile mount VZW029
FW-05 stock mount = VS-030
FW-05 optional mount = VSW-003, and the one piece #???

I have the VSW-003 in my RREvo. Bolted right in, just had to change to the smaller flywheel.

The Kyosho one piece mount has to bolt in... all the bolt patterns are the same. The one piece mount "should" have the same bolt pattern as an LD engine. But will the 3d clutch work??? Thats what I was asking.

The problem you might have is the mount is to low. The slots might not be long enough to allow for proper gear mesh.

Other thing is, a lot of the aftermarket ones have 4mm bolts. You'd have to make the holes bigger.

Thanks a lot for the lecture on engine mounts :P

I have read from a Japanese FW04 website that the VZ090 3D clutch with FW04 low height engine mount (FZW63) is a working combination.

They also pointed out the issue with the flywheel not touching the starter when using regular-height engine mount. I suppose the only way that 3D clutch will work on S10 is to couple the larger diameter flywheel (VZ096) with a low height engine mount. That is, if using SG engine without the recoil starter, which is what I am planning on :)

Edit: Here is the website of this wonderful Japanese FW04 website (http://homepage2.nifty.com/shunyosi/rccar_list_superten_fw04.htm#SuperTen%20FW04:製作のポイ ント). The detail regarding the 3D clutch is written in the last section. I was relying on dictionary.com to do the translation for me, just hope I have interpreted the content correctly.

P.S: the one piece engine mount for FW05 and RRR is TSW27. You are absolutely right, the engine mounts are indeed interchangeable.

Hope it didn't sound like a lecture.... just trying to make it easy to understand LOL.

Strange about the flywheel reach problem... that combo works on the oneR... and I think the chassis is thicker. The VZW029 mount should help with that. It was listed in the oneRR instuctions as an optional "low profile mount". It "might" be 1mm lower (its not much), but there was no optional flywheel offered with it.

I don't think that mount was ever carried by GP/Tower. I found it while looking at one of the sites over seas (I think rcmart).

Hi Ed,

I have been doing researches about fitting SG Engines to S10 for few months without any breakthrough until I read your threads and the replies. They are very valuable to me. I considered them a very useful lecture/tutorial ;) They are very easy to understand, too:)

I guess the only way to find out is to actually build a 3D clutch S10. I am yet to finalize my shopping list and budget, I will definitely keep the forum up-to-date with my progress (if I ever get to start this project lol).

Thank you so much for the comprehensive information, sorry in the previous reply I neglected to acknowledge that.

Good luck and it's cool to see you guys remain active!

Hello guys!

Interesting threads as usual. Very usefull info about the clutch issue. Keep them coming!!

I have finally layed my hands on two FW04 NIB and just put together one of them. I had one FW04 body laying around so I put that body on that one who doesent came with a body in box.

Hey Yngwie, nice to have you back to the forum.

Wow! 2 NIB FW04's? That's insane man!!! I couldn't find any here.

So... how many SuperTen's do you own now? Enough to open an exhibition lol?

pleaseletmeon34, extremely informative posts!! I'll probably order the FD20 mounts since they are cheap and I think Kyosho America has them in stock. Still got to look a bit more into the flywheel/clutch setup because I plan to use a pullstart standard or SG crank engine. I should mention I have spacers for the engine mounts to raise the height for the pullstart clearance.

Also, has anyone purchased the expensive 2 speed set new? Kyosho America lists it at around $180+ and its in stock... but if it includes flywheel and clutch, then it may seem worth it.... Otherwise, if its just the 2 speed transmission and 2 speed clutchbell, then I probably won't buy it.

Serra,

The site looks interesting.... when I get a chance I translate it.

Dan,

I can tell you the 39666s 2sp set came complete. It came with a small flywheel, stainless clutch bell, and threaded gears.

I can scan the parts list for this.... just give me a few days.

Sometimes Kyosho sent a picture parts catalog with a kit....did they send them with the 04's? That might show if it has all the parts.

Anybody ever buy the 04 2sp? Can they scan the instuction sheet? If you are gonna try a 3d clutch, maybe you can just buy the parts you need.

Thanx nitronutz!!

That Mugen Castrol body is exactly that I have (found 2 FW04 NIBīs) and is in process of being put together. I think I pass the Castrol paintscheme and go for the Mobil1 instead and this one is like you mention a white base color with a few decals. I plan to try out the pureten decals for this body.

Ok, I ordered a few parts today. Ordered the FD20 mounts and the VS057 flywheel. Hopefully they will work on a standard crank pullstart engine just fine. All I have left is to order the right Vespel clutch if its still available, or try to see if an HPI Racing clutch works. Then I'll slap on the tallest clutchbell that will work for high speed runs. :)

Hi everybody!
I have been following this cool forum for a while now and just bought a used Superten FW03. This one is a rolling chassis and before I get started with it I am realizing that I will need a manual for it. So does anyone know where to find on the web the manual for the FW03? I just downloaded the Kyosho FW04 PDF manual and that is close but wont do it for me.

So far my Google searches have come up with nothing and so it seems like the FW03 release came before PDF files were popular. I am hoping that someone out there has scanned their FW03 manual into a PDF file. If not, I would like to buy a FW03 manual from someone and make a PDF file out of it and share it online so that others can have access to it.

Try looking for Kyosho Super Ten (10). FW-03 is just a made up name that people came up with when the FW-04 came out. I've never seen it anywhere on anything from Kyosho.

I believe it was out.... but when I first came into the computer world, I didn't know I could "save" things. Now I save them all! LOL

This might help.

Between that and the 04 manual.... you should get by.... till you can find an original.

Thanks for your reply pleaseletmeon34. That exploded diagram should really help me. I did not know about the name FW03 not originally coming from Kyosho and it will help in my searches and generally to refrain from using that name when looking for older info on the web. Hopefully, a superten GP manual will come up for sale on ebay soon. I did find that Japanese web site which has some extensive info on the superten GP and I am trying to get the translation to understand what they are talking about.

Thanks GAF42! I really appreciate your effort.
I have the single speed transmission and can anyone tell me what my options are in terms of gearing? Ya know, like what gear combination would give me the most speed or what is best if you have just the standard transmission package? I want a 2 speed but they are ridiculously expensive and for the price some of the reports of them breaking down under heavy loads is scary!

Hi Trajan
I stumbled onto most of my books, there's at least one I haven't found yet, saw it about a week ago where it didn't belong and left it. I found Superten and Fw-04 along with a lot of option parts instructions. The Superten book is about 30 pages so I will scan it into computer. E-mail me at gaf42@yahoo.com and let me know exactly what you would like and I'll send it when I get in tnis evening.

Hi Trajan
this is what your looking for. yes for the price it's hi i just got one from japan for $145.00 and as long as you don't go higher then an .18 your good with gears and put a good pair of hard springs on the clucth shoe so they ingage with higher RPM trust me you get me power then you need on that car.

trajan
04-23-2008, 11:31 PM
Thanks for the pic. Will that 2 speed fit in the SuperTen GP cars? That is the car that I have so I am not sure if that 2 speed will fit. I initially wanted to put a 21 engine in my Superten but after having read some of the post about stripping gears I am having second thoughts about that and ended up puting a Kyosho GS15 from my FW05t in myS10.
I was thinking that the SuperTen was a 1/8 scale car and would take any 1/8 scale engines. I have some serpent 1/8 scale cars and I switch engines around a lot in those cars. What I am finding is that the stock Superten(like the one I have) cannot handle the power of a 21 engine so I need to find the right hop ups. My next question would be what is the race legal options for the Superten class?

Hi Trajan
OK I UNDERSTAND YOU HAVE THE STANDARD SUPERTEN THAT THATS NOT THE FW04 SERIES. OK THEN YOU NEED THIS TRANNY NOW THIS TRANNY IS SOMETHING ELSE LET ME TELL YOU I HAVE THE O.S V-SPEC TURBO .21 ON MY STANDARD SUPERTEN AND IT HALLS A.. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN ANY WAY THIS TRANNY WILL TAKE THE POWER THE PROBLEM IS THAT ON TAKE OFF YOU HAVE TO GO SLOW, OR YOU CAN ADD A CENTAX CLUTH AND ADJUST WHEN YOU WANT IT TO ANGAGE. :teacher:

trajan
04-24-2008, 10:07 PM
Yea, I have a centax clutch system so I can control the power of the engine much better. Well that is good news. Now I only have to find one of those trannies. Toad, what engine mounts are you using for your OS 21 and does your engine have a pull start?

Toad
04-25-2008, 06:38 PM
Hi Trajan
i have one on the way from france i don't know how long it will take to get to me. i'v been waiting a long time for it now anyway i'll sell it to you when and if i get it. the engine mounts that i use are the wolfpack mounts and no pull start all bump start the only pull start that i have is the GS .15 from kyosho. the wolfpack mounts lets you mount from a .12 to .21 oh sorry i made a mistake its not the v spec turbo in my car its the VZR .21 from OS.
