Has anyone been crazy like me, and put a custom fan & shroud on the EK-4???:D :D

what do you think??

hey Mike,
I think your work is innovative and very neat BUT is rather unnecessary for the EK-4, ESPECIALLY with the MSJ engine heat sink already installed.
That MSJ head already keeps the engine cool enough and besides, you're probably hurting yourself with the extra weight of that fan and shroud. If you start adding other aluminum parts such as arms, shock towers, battery holders, rollcage, etc you'll end up like one of those fin-fin/dexatrim needing-overweight-shiny-T-Maxxes negating all the power your potent .70 has to offer
:p
Keep up the ideas though...

Yeah I know it's a bit overkill, But I thought it would be a good idea in the summer time when the ground is the same temp that the truck sould be running at. As for the weight, I does add a little to the back half, but you cant tell a diff in performance. and when you catch some big air, it helps pull it through like a prop ....lol just kidding .......

I never said this in the other forum, great job man.

If you think about it this way.....you add a whole bunch of aluminum parts to your truck, it gets heavier, your .70 engine could surely handle it but will run hotter due to the extra load and performance will go down a bit due to the extra heat. So you flip the fan switch, the engine temp goes down, you gain more performance due to the cooler engine and your truck is stronger with the hop-ups. This works even better when hot, humid summer rolls around the corner, the fan would lower the engine temp by 50+ deg!!!! And your engine will last longer.

WOW!!!!! I pointed the temp gun @ it today and she is running @ 123F and yes the temp gun is accurate :D Oh yeah you guys need a radar temp gun? go to radio shack, I just got one for $40.00 its small & pocket sized!!!! it rocks.

Isn't that a little too cool?
Hey I do believe that 123 degrees is way too cool for any engine, you are talking of at least 120 degrees difference...

I checked it again.....it's 141f at the glo-plug & 123f at the MSJ cooling fins......she runs sweet:cool: I'll keep you guys posted on the performance specs. I have to give her some Cold/Flu pills in her fuel so she don't catch a cold......j/k

141 !! dude! that's not even allowing the engine to reach "operating temperature" ...
that's not "healthy" for ol' girl!
Let er' get around 200 !
When was the last time you saw a real car running that cold ? ... never? lol

Yea, listen to AE. Your engine is running way to cool or your temp gun is malfunctioning. Your either going to damage your engine or lose alot of power and fuel running that cool.

Read my post again, only turn it on if you put too much load on the engine!!!

with ouut the fan the engine would be running tht hot but if ya lean 'er out too much yer taking away the lube that this engine needs

i like the cooling fan idea and am thinking about trying it myself!

You guys are missing the potential here. Keep the fan on and lean the Beatch out, she will scream like a virgin but be cold enough for an Islamic fundamentalist.
Rock on

If you lean the beatch out to much, the virgin will scream from not enough lube.:)

Nice workmanship and good idea. Friend of mine who has flown Helicopters for years say the engine needs more cooling. Its got more than enough lube but needs the rich setting for help cooling. Going to let him see yours and maybe make some adjustments to get in operating temperature range. Like you he has the autohaus head;might niot be necessary with the fan,but loks better. Smaller fan anyone?

I took her to the city park, I am still keepin it rich enough that the smoke is still blue not grey. (but holly s@#T she will pull the front wheels up @ 20mph's and thats on 15% Cool-Power Heli fuel!!!
I dont think added weight is an issue anymore, If anything weight is what it needs to keep the front end on the ground. Oh yeah I have seen an auto engine run safely @ 140 F ( it's my boat ) I have a 235 horse power 302 ford engine in my boat and the MFG calls for a 140 F thermostat... and she purrs like a kitten at 55mph. Lets face it guys heat is our worst nightmare, It does'nt matter what it is, the cooler the engine will run the better performance you will get from it. Keep ya posted on the cold/flu pills I have been given her :D :D :D Thanks Mike S.

These are two cycle engines not car engines. But even real cars have operating temperature which thay wear and perform best at. Same here. That's one reason cold starts ( and lube) have been shown to cause 40% of wear on car engines. any way nise work.
