My friend gave me a Kyosho Buggy and I can't even figure what it is a Ultima what ? It has a Magnum Junior radio, a Futaba 75MHz BEC FP-R102JE AM 2 channel reciever, a Futaba speed control with reverse, 1 Dyna-1500 sport pack, and with a Super speed motor. It has a double deck chasis and the buggy style look. It has Road Hawgs on the back and bridgestone tires in the front (20-5). Can you tell me what kind of buggy it is Ultima what?
Thanks Jake

It's probably an Ultima. Is it 2wd or 4wd? Is the chassis aluminum or composite? More detail please! :D :D

RichyRich it looks just like that but with a corvette body (ulgy). It's 2WD and composite. It looks just like mine except the body and tires. How much is it worth and what does it have on it ?

Sounds like you have the electric Corvette from back in the early 90s. Or you have an Ultima with a aftermarket Corvette body. I'll see if I can find pictures.

Hey Richie Rich I need some help finding parts for my car just like yours do you know where to get the best performance parts?
Thanks

What kind of performance parts are you looking for? Shocks? Sway bars? Bearings? Let me know. Have you been able to take a picture of the car? I've found pictures of the corvette but I've recently moved and haven't unpacked my old r/c magazines yet. Hopefully, I'll find them soon and scan some pics. :)

Richie Rich I'm looking for sway bars, new shocks, new bearings, Tires, rims, motor, motor guard, just mostly performance parts for the buggy because I'm looking to race the buggy at my local track.
Thanks,
Jake

Jake - So, it's an Ultima Pro? I have a used sway bar set for the Ultima. I have some other stuff, but I'll have to check. Ultima parts can be real difficult to find. Do you already have bearings installed? You actually might be able to find some parts still at Tower Hobbies. Have you tried there?
Maxium_MT

RichieRich I've have the bearings installed. Have you unpacked your cars for that picture of that Ultima Pro Corvette body yet?
Do you think that Tower Hobbies would have performance parts for my Ultima? Yeah I've looked for some parts At Tower. . . None
Thanks,
Jake

My wife found them. Now I just have to find a scanner. Tower hobbies may have some parts. The old ultima platform has been discontinued for a while now. Most hobby shops don't even carry Kyosho parts let alone old ones. If you find some at your local hobby shop, BUY THEM.

Do you know what size the body is 190mm, 200mm and where can I find a Ultima body just like yours?
Burnout
05-04-2002, 04:21 AM
Heh, I used to have one. It was a Kyosho Raider. I don't mean to knock on it but its a crap buggy! I think it was Kyosho's cheapest buggy they ever came out with. I got rid of the buggy, but I still have the manual for it!
RichieRich
05-08-2002, 12:18 PM
MaxMT - Well, I've found most of my old catalogs but I'm still missing the one with the old corvette in it. So, I'm not sure what size it is.
As for the Ultima body like mine, I had to buy it on ebay. They're very difficult to find. If I remember correctly, i got mine for $50. I believe the Kyosho Outrage body will fit without modifications. It can still be purchased at Tower Hobbies. Click here. (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p.pgm?Q=1&I=LXT604&P=7)

Check out my Old Ultima my first real r/c car I bought it at a local auction for $20. It came with a sprint car body and a legends body. The top deck was gone so I had to make my own out of plexy-glass. I'm thinking about mounting a durango body on it with tamiya s-10 tires.

] HI- NEED TO KNOW WHY AFTER 35 TO 40 SEC.S RUNNING FULL BLAST. THIS THING SLOWS TO ONLY 3/4 POWER- AND HOW DO YOU FIX THIS PROBLEM? BRAND NEW BATTERY. IS IT THE RESITOR???
RichieRich
04-03-2004, 02:08 AM
Mechanical speed controls are not very reliable. I'm assuming you are using one of those since you mentioned the resistor. If the resistor gets cracked or the contact points in the speed control get damaged, it is usually because of excessive heat. I would suggest upgrading to an electronic speed control. You can still make the mechanical one work, but they will degrade faster after every repair.

TUCRACEMAN - I see you have the 2wd Pro X that The UK team Kyosho threw in the Bin at the first national event it was raced at, as it didnt work very well.
Mind you I have to admit that the car does look very nice, and yours is a work of art.

Then I remember that they were priced at $99 for a while but I was too chicken to ask my dad to buy it for me. Ohhhh well....
I’ll be heading out to California this next weekend and there my Pro-X will get a coat of paint and hopefully some turnbuckles. Unfortunately, I do not have Original Decals. :(

Guys,
A word of advice. Dont be surprised if the car doesnt handle or steer very well.
Aparantly Rob Gammon and Jamie Booth and the rest of team Kyosho tried it at one of the UK's best clay tracks (where the Reedy race of champs was held), and they threw it away and went back to the Triumph.
Rob said it didnt steer no matter how well it was set up.
I have to say the cars looked terrible, and Jamie's car was like a bag of nails, it wouldnt handle at all, and he is and was one of the best in the world (he has finished third at a worlds and won numerous european chammpionships).
But dont let that get you down, as its such a rare car you will always make money on selling it one day.
RichieRich
04-20-2004, 11:28 AM
welshy40 - I think the reason for having the car is it's rarity and that it has some cool features.
Now, I've never driven the Pro-X but judging by how long this car lasted before it was taken off the market, I'd say that your observations are probably correct. But who knows, maybe it will handle better on a different type of track. By the way, the Triumph didn't last long either before it was heavily discounted and Kyosho stopped making buggies for a while.
welshy40
04-21-2004, 04:18 AM
Triumph lasted a long time in the UK, it won the British Nationals, but yes it did die rather quickly when it stopped winning. Kyosh never stopped making buggies, they just didnt sell in the US or most of Europe for some silly reason. The ZXR was discontinued and replaced with the ZX-S, which is still being built (but only in Japan). The 2wd cars have become more competitive since then, but yes I do think your car looks tidy, and having something that (lets be honest) is almost indestructable as Kyosho can build strong kits unlike other manufactures is and added bonus.

04-21-2004, 06:53 AM
My brother raced the truck version of the ProX here in Australia - it wasn't too good. It handled our tracks quite well but gearbox was a big problem - it just didn't work too well. We even tried putting the Triumph transmission on it to fix the problem! The suspension also became sloppy very quickly.
And of course there was no parts back-up over here (not that you needed it - it was very strong).
We never got the buggy version here, I would've got one, just to be different.
welshy40
04-21-2004, 07:29 AM
Well I had the only Kyosho Ultima Typr R in the UK, and have to say is the best 2wd they have made, however its pretty much a copy of the RC10 B2, with exception of the longer chassis. It worked well though.
RichieRich
04-21-2004, 01:53 PM
I also have an Ultima RB Type R and yes, it is the best 2wd buggy Kyosho has ever made. The shocks are awesome as I have said a thousand times on this board. I'm kind of disappointed Kyosho did not release the Evo version here in the states. That buggy could have been better. I think I took some pictures of it when I was at the hobby show last year.
I wonder why parts support is so bad everywhere. If you race a Kyosho, spares are not easy to come by.
There's an Ultima RB thread in the forum. And there's even a picture of mine somewhere in there.

I hated the shocks, they were and still are using cheap materials, they should have stuck with the option house shocks - I could break the Type R shocks easily. I use traxxas TRX1 shocks instead, as the quality is brilliant. The reason why you cant get spares is down to the importer - like over here they are rubbish, if I were running Kyosho I would make sure that all items were well stocked.
Nice picture - I have a 4wd Lazer, and have put them on the below site, my name is below a picture of a red Lazer zx-s, but the car is a ZX in reality as have made a lot of stuff for it. You want to check out the ZX/ZXR buggy thread on this site, from page 8 onwards.

Did you see the same shocks as us? I'm going to have to agree with Rich on the shocks. They were by far the best and amazingly, the Ultima is the fastest buggy around the track that I've ever had.
~Dave

I found that the equaliser shocks (or what ever they call them) are awful. Too much plastic. The best shocks that have ever been made are the TRX1 shocks when traxxas first started up - they are brilliant.
TUCRACEMAN
04-28-2004, 03:25 AM
Ours have the Twin-Cap Pro shocks. No plastic in these.
~Dave
welshy40
04-28-2004, 04:27 AM
I guess kyosho brought out the weird plastic parts on the later cars, as the metal caps are so much better - as your look like.
The newer evolution shocks had a plastic section that you pushed through the metal screw top - it was the plastic ball joint top.
I broke a few of those shocks so they went in the bin, and I had chats with Traxxas who supplied me with the TRX1 shocks - and I have to say they are the smoothest shocks ever made, and make the Associated shocks look behind.
