First race in Summer Series is April 7th at the University Mall parking lot outside Dillards. Races are every other week. I'm starting this board to keep Chapel Hill topics off the other track forums. See all the rules, dates, track layout, and pictures on their website.

Looking forward to a great summer of racing. :D

What time do they start? Last time i was out to Chapel Hill was like in September. What are the regestration cut offs, racing start etc? Thxs I plan on seeing you guys out there sunday. I'll be running T-Maxx and i'm bringing my 1/8 scale buggy. I don't think they have a class for it but..

If memory serves, we started racing about 1pm. The price has doubled in the past couple of days to $10 for 1 entry and $15 for as many as you want. I think they are also gonna make us be ROAR members. How LAME! Anyway, I would always try to get there between 10 and 11am and help them setup the track. I don't know when registration cut-off is. When they called... I went and paid.
I'll be there too on Sunday. However, my patience is running thin with these pre-season "rules" changes . But I WILL give them a chance to prove themselves. I hope they come through. I'll be running in 1/10 electric truck (stock or mod... I don't know yet) and 1/10 Nitro Truck. Both are Losi sleds. Stop by and say Hi.
Later doooooood,

Hey TarheelQ, in the Rosewood thread I mentioned cheating because Gonzo mentioned people bending rules. That's the only reason. I don't really know of anyone there that cheats. I think they thought I did when I ran stock there for the first time. They didn't even know what a P2K Pro was hehe. I just told them to go up on the pinion since it was a large track (compared to the indoor tracks I've been used to this winter :D ). Anyways, I don't think cheating will be a problem.
Well as stated in the Tarheel forum, I just finished my TC3 tonight. All wires now soldier on. I'll have my first chance at driving it this Sunday at the race. I'll post pics up hopefully tomorrow (gotta live'n up this forum). Now I just have some old motors to rebuild and get ready. Gotta get the carpet dust out of them. :D Anyone know if Hungates sells TC3 parts? Just looking to get some TC3 springs since all I have is the stock Racer kit springs (gold/silver). I hope this car really does it. I am starting to miss my XXX-S already hehe.
I guess I'll see yall there!

RonZ- I've not heard anything about 2 heats verses 1, but I doubt they will have any time to run 2 heats when they are trying to run 11 different classes of cars in 1 day. That's one of the problems I have with the new "rules". I do, however, think they will be dropping some of the classes due to the lack of entries on many weekends.
Novice?... DITCH IT! Stock Electric?... BYE-BYE! (The only reason I say to lose stock electric is that the stakes are much higher now with the points series. If they are gonna allow TC cars in with the trucks and not tech any of them they should just make it an open electric class and let us go at it... no-holes-barred.)
This answers some of the other concerns that I mentioned on the Rosewood Forum about bending the rules. Look, if they are gonna now stick us for $10/$15 and act like a real track they need to provide the same level of service that a real track has and give away some real prizes. I think they have bitten off more than they can chew. I said in an email to them that they might consider not participating in the racing themselves to concentrate on putting on a good show. They said no, of course. However, when I asked them to work out some kind of Tech system, even if it's just to tech the winners, they stated that they didn't have enough people to do that. Well, it seems they want to put on a real race, just don't what to have to do what it take to put on a premier event.
I don't want to sound ungrateful here because Chapel Hill is far-and-away my favorite racing venue, but all I want is to be given a fair shot. Also, if victorious, given the proper recognition for it. I feel bad about thinking these things... I have alot of free brain time to make this **** up.

Well, Chris did tell me that they're gonna be using Autoscore, something I'm pretty familiar with, so me helping them out is more than likely going to happen. But as far as 11 classes, at 5 minutes a run, plusmaybe say 5 minutes inbetween, thats actually less than 2 hours a round. Thats also assuminmg there gonna run 5 minutes,,not 4 like last year.
So,, start at 12, round 1 of heats,, ends at 2
Start round 2 at 2,, ends at 4
Set up mains, run mains starting at say 4:30,,mains end at 6:30
This is assuming they run for 5 and allowing time inbetween for goof-ups.
So, to me, it's at least doable if we can just keep things moving along.
As far as teching goes,, I know I don't cheat, you don't and for the most part, most drivers don't. But,, in defense of the hobby shop running this track, is it fair to the newbie that just bought a RTR TC3 and have him run in modified because the car comes with a motor thats not "ROAR STOCK"?? Make him buy a motor when the salesman just told him that all he needed to do was put batteries in the transmitter, and charge up a pack and race? I'm sure that his Mom would like that very much...NOT!!!
BUT,, I am in favor of at least teching the winners. How long does it take to look and see if the motors tag is in place, or if the end of the armature shaft is the correct one for that motor?
JimmyMac
04-04-2002, 01:42 AM
Hey whats up! Sorry, no pictures today. Pulled a 14 hour shift today/night. Maybe tomorrow. Anyways, I don't mind stock TC3 RTR kit motors running cuz they are slower than stock motors. At least mine when I ran up against one during a carpet race. So that doesn't bother me. RTR kit motors are cheap anyways. But I DO feel for the other NonTouring Cars in electric class. There is no way a well setup truck can out handle with a well setup Tourer. I think there should be the classes as follows..
Open Electric
Stock Sedan
Mod Sedan
T/E Maxx
Gas Trucks
Nitro Touring (any 1/10 Nitro Tourer)
Super Nitro (any 1/8)
As far as a Novice class. This will be what the B-Main is or C-Main.
C-Main (novice)
B-Main (intermediate)
A-Main (pro)
This way each class or main has it's winners. Kinda like how Hobbytown USA (Virginia Beach) does their races with each Main having a Winner with prizes or whatnot. You could go there at a trophy race and win the "E" main and still walk away with a Trophy. Everyones a winner!! Just the way I like it!
Anyways, I'll try and get some pictures up. I'll catch yall later. Take it easy!

We need to keep stock electric because it is a good dtarting point for people who do not have the money or skill to run mod. As for novice, I think what they should have done instead is have a stock gearbox class where people could run all their offroad stuff because that is what most beginners have. They can work out the schedule a little better by consolidating the gas classes a little, there is no need to have an intermediate and pro nitro class. Also I am sure every class will not run every race because of the lack of entrants.
As for the $10.00 fee, at first I thought that might be a bt much but when you think about it, 15 years ago hear in Durham we were spending $5.00 to enter and that was per class, so $10 for one class and $15 for as many as you want is not bad plus they are still letting under 12 race free to get them into the sport. That is not a bad deal guys! Also they are not being really sponsored by Hungates any more so all of their operating expenses and improvement cost come from entry fees. And if you think $10 is the cost for a premiere race then you need to look at the entry fees in RC Car Action, $35-45 is more likely. I have been looking at getting a track going here in Durham and between building materials, lap counter, and insurance, it s not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. And to expect these guys not to race themselves is stupid!! they are doing this primarily for their enjoyment first and the fact that the rest of us get to share in the fun without putting up with the hassels is an added bonus for us.
So give the guys a chance and just go out there and enjoy yourself. I am not saying that you can not criticise just make it constructive and think about what is involved first. The hobby will die out again in this area if we give these guys to much of a hard time because they will get fed up and quit and then we will not have a track to run on.
See yall on Sunday!
and have fun!!!

I agree with all of the the class layouts except T/E-Maxx. DO u mean a class for T and a class for E? I think the E's should be put in stock electric but a decently tuned T Maxx will out run an e-maxx i'm pretty sure unless you have a someone like me behind the controls :) but other than that it all looks good. And i sent an e-mail asking wheere my 1/8 scale buggy would be put. Heres the quote from the e-mail.
Hi Dustin,
The 1/8th cars will be run with the 1/10th nitro
on road cars( Serpent style) but they will be prized
out seperate. We just have too many classes to
seperate them. Practice starts at 11:00am and the
races start at 1:00pm. See ya' there.
-Chapel Hill R/C
so i'm not sure when he said 1/8 scale cars, he was specifing just the buggy or 1/8scale onroads. Well find out soon enough. BC i had my first soldering job yesterday putting my starter box together. Man i'm glad i don't run alot of elec. :D :p And sunday is getting here to quick. with to much todo. Then we gotta figure out why the t-maxx 'launches' off the line then goes 2-3 mph
tarheelquality
04-04-2002, 09:54 AM
Dustin,
What they have done in the past is run all 1/8 together regardless of on or off road. I dont think there are too many 1/8 though.
Cosmo
04-04-2002, 12:18 PM
I sincerely hope that they don't allow the 1/8 buggies to run in that class. I have nothing against buggies, but they don't belong there. I know I don't want a 1/8 buggy slamming into my Impact or Veteq. I am bringing my new Impact this weekend, and if any buggies are running, I'll keep the Impact in the trailer. I don't have a problem with allowing off-road vehicles in the "beginner" classes, but once you step up to something like 1/10 on road car, since they do represent a significant monetary investment, I think they should be allowed to race with cars like them, not anything that doesn't fit into another class.
tarheelquality
04-04-2002, 01:08 PM
Cosmo, I cant remember, is the impact the onroad car or touring car? I can understand not wanting to run it with buggies and unfortunately I think they are getting to the point of needing to run nitro and electric on separate days or running on a Saturday and getting some lighting so they can run longer and later and get all the classes in. I do not know that there is a satisfactory solution to make everyone happy but I am sure the guys in Chapel Hill are doing their best.

Yeah, don't slam these guys. I'm sure they are doin their best. Plus it's one of the funnest places where I race. I'm sure with this lap counter system, they can now have more cars per heat to cut down on the long schedule. Anyways, here is my Car. If you see it at the track, try not to kick it tooo hard okay! :D

 ok,first of all welcome to rcca but second of all we already have a thread called "the tarheel state" that i might add has been around for quite some time and to come in and say "i am starting this board to keep chapel hill topics off the other forums" is crazy and rude. Why start this thread when we already have one that is well established and contains disussions about tracks all over this great state of ours?Makes no sence to me at all:confused: Want to talk racing at chapel hill?Do it on the tarheel state thread. Why start something that is going to take away from what we already have? Now i could understand if you started this to take talk about chapel hill away from threads it doesn't belong on but to take it away from our own thread is ridiculous.Am i wrong in what i am saying?? I really don't think so,we don't need "other" threads about racing in north carolina on this board. Now don't get me wrong,i can kind of understand the rosewood thread but to start this and say what you did was wrong. Not trying to start anything but it just makes me upset when as long as the tarheel state thread has been on here someone wants to come along and take away from it.Have you even been on the tarheel thread??You might want to take a look at it,i think it already has what we need.....just my 2 cents guys,no hard feelings;)

I think this thread is a good idea because it gives us a place to discuss Chapel Hill specificly while still being able to ramble on and provide a good starting point for others on the TarheelState thread.

I'm the one who started this thread. Sorry, kartrun, I didn't mean to step on your toes or anything. I didn't even know about the other forum going on, but since Rosewood and Stoneypoint had threads I figured Chapel Hill deserved no less. We had started oozing over Chapel Hill topics on the Rosewood forum so I just started one just for Chapel Hill. I really like a forum just for each track. It makes it easier to follow the topics that are only for racers at that track or event. I'll continue to post here as long as others will and I think you should too.
I've spent all week working on the trucks to get them ready and still need to break-in the electric motors for the XXXT/MF and I'll be ready. Weather will be nice, but cold in the morning with highs in the mid 60's. If anyone want to stop by and say HI I'll be either in a white 4Front Systems company truck or a green Ford Probe. More likely the truck. The friends that usually go with me to tracks (Buddy and Paul) both have other shuff to do and can't make it so I'll be the lonely guy with nobody to talk to. So stop by.

Okay, I'll be the first to comment on todays Race. It was fun I thought. Had a blast. Even though they DID start without me in the Micro class. hehehe. Plus they didn't let us run a Micro Main! What's up with that? They that scared of me in Micro Class?? haha. :p But anyways, I thought it was a bit unorganized. They have waaaaaayyyy tooooo many Nitro Classes. With a track THAT BIG, the heats should be packed full. This will cut down on the 25 or how many ever heats we had today. I think the track was TOOO Big. At least for the electric cars. Could be cut down to what they ran the Micros on. But anyways, it was the first race of the season. So I can understand them running around and learning the new lap counting system and stuff. So I won't blame them today. I'll just blame them if it's still like this in June. :D
Good thing I brought Ron out there (actually he brought me, he drove hehe.) My thanks to him for helping them out. Thanks to the Virginia boys for coming out. Nice meeting everyone there. A few faces from the internet. Sorry, can't remember everyones Screen names hehe. Just sooo many coming up to me. Should not have posted my Superman car pic... (just kidding.) But thanks to them for saying Hi. I'll definitly be back there in 2 weeks. So if I couldn't find ya today, I'll try next time. I know I couldn't find Kartrun, and a few others asked if I seen him/you. Maybe next time.
Anyways, had a blast. Took my new TC3 out and drove it for the first time today. Broke a rear ball cup the second time I drove the car (mod electric with only 1 lap hehe.) Luckily I had another one to go on and race Stock class. Of course they started the race in Micro class without me. Those brats. I dumped in the Mod Electric B-main. But I came back and won the Stock Electric A-main with TQ also. Not bad I guess. Anyone have any setups for a TC3 out there? Looking for one. Let me know. Will need one for next race if I want to be competitive. Blah blah blah.
Well you guys take it easy. See yall in 2. Gotta go to bed. Yuck, lost 1 hour of sleep. I hate when I loose sleep.... Okay, I'll go now, I'm just rambling on. Shows you how tired I am.... :o L8R

Have to bring the sun screen and overhead cover next time!:D Great meeting everyone. I hope to give you a little more competition next race (it has only been 12 years since I raced!lol!). Kilruf, just wanted to apologize for not introducing myself yesterday cause i was right beside you all day!I was soooo busy trying to get a few guys hooked up who had my motors i really didn't even think about so i do apologize.Anyways, for those of you who are interested there was three guys out there yesterday who were running Mindblown Modifieds.Quick update for you all. Tom Pearson was running stock(Tarheelquality)and, though undergeared, was leading his heat till he was hit by another driver which caused him to lose a few positions.Great job Tom,we'll get em next time;) Rob Blevins from virginia was running in 1/10th scale modified and qualified 4th in his heat.Missed his main but i'm sure he finished in the top 5.Chris Cash was running in 1/10th scale modified and managed to win his heat and qualify 2nd in the A-main.During his heat he managed to hit the boards and broke a steering hub and cvd.We didn't realize this till the start of the main.Looked like he had the car to beat but unfortunately because of the broken parts the car was a bit on the loose side:D Anyways,he managed to pick up a top 5 finish even with the broken parts.Great job Chris,I'm sure you'll get the win in mod next time as usual;) So what is my point?for the first official race my motors have ever been in if it wasn't for a few racing incidences it looked like i was on my way to a first time out, first situation. Great job to all the guys yesterday running Mindblown Modifieds, looks like trinity has a little competiton from the little man:D

Actually Rob DNF'ed. He had ESC problems. But he said the motor screamed for what he got to run it.
It was good to meet all of you. I was the one in the trailer from VA with the goatee. I ended up winning the Impact class. I hoped I could give Jimmy Mac a run in Stock, but in the heat I was running some Advans, which worked. Just before the main I noticed one of them was coming unglued. Since I didn't have time to glue it back, I switched to foams. That was a mistake. I was all over the place. Oh well, I hadn't intended to run any electric class so I could concentrate on my Impact, so I'm hapy with the way I did. This was my car, for those of you who saw it while it was still in one piece...

How'd you know I had a E-Maxx Ron?? :D It runs great! Chased my grandma's cats today! It was a blast! Even though I only had 2000's in it, I managed to get 20 minutes runtime! I wasn't all out with it though. Alot of... "can I drive or this?" But it's a blast. Can't wait to strap on my dad's infared "night vision" camera. See how that works. But it's a blast. Can you check your email up there in VA? We need to talk........
Anyways, I think I'll need to switch to a triple wind arm for Chapel Hill since it's sooo big. Last year I ran a 10 triple. Last race it was a 10 single. Even though it seemed to be one of the fastest cars on the straight, it wasn't enough for what it should have been with the gearing. I'll keep my 10 single for "smaller" tracks. Also don't use oneways till the track tightens up. Since I broke after the first lap in Mod qualifing, I went and put in a one-way for the mod main for a test run. Not a good idea. Took it out and put the diff back in for Stock main. As far as tires, I ran the kit tires during the whole day (except for the first heat in mod with only 1 lap on my 5 year old yokomo slicks :D ) The V-rages seemed pretty good. And even though they were S-2 compound, I consider them alreay worn out! I'll have to find something else....... Anyways, I'm giving too many pointers hehe. Chat with yall later.... I'll try and email ya Ron at Juno and Hotmail...

So, first race is over and now no-one is talking! I was just looking at Chapel Hill website and saw that the points are now listed up. Pictures are up too for A-main winners. Anyways, I saw that T-Maxx class is called Monster Truck class. Is this true? Can I now race my E-Maxx in that class? Pop in some mod motors and zoom zoom! Anyways, can't wait til next next weekend to race. See yall there!

Jimmy,
I'd try it. then again they may be afraid of etting embarrased by an electric. I asked them about that last year because I was thinking about an Emaxx and was told to bring it. I wanted to run my Stampede in that class but was told I would have to run it in electric mod.
Cosmo, Nice pic! Hopefully I will have one of mine posted there this year. Tryed to get over to meet you Sunday but everytime I went by your trailer you were on the track.
Have to start tonight on prepping for next week. I am going to try a P94 brush conversion with an 8 turn armature next time. Anybody have experince with the P94? RCCA reported big power and efficiency increase with the conversion.
See yall next week.

Well, Eddel was running a D4 12x1 motor with the P94 conversion, and you saw how well he did. He was running the low silver brushes. I ran the high silver brushes here a few weeks ago and it worked great. But I had to cut my comm after every run. With the regular brushes I could run 4 or 5 packs without cutting it.

Congratulations Kartrun! Sounds like a pretty good deal. Hey, do you think you can ask Tom about running an EMaxx in the T-Maxx/Monster Truck class? Or I can just email Chris Cash about the matter. I'm just curious if they are gonna make it a "MONSTER TRUCK" class now with all the other trucks coming out.
As for the P94 brush conversion, I ran one with my CoreTouring 10x1. Seem okay. But I wasn't sure what brushes I was using. It was the single shut ones, not the double. The conversion came with both types. I still have some work to do on the motor. The conversion wasn't made to fit the Orion motor. So I had to mod a few things to make it fit. It did up the power alittle according to my dyno. So I guess I'll keep it for now until I get a better mod built for Chapel Hill.
Anyways, like what Quality said, time to get started prepping for next week. Need to order some parts for my TC3 to get it running right. Plus I need a new bit for my lathe.... someday I'll get a diamond one hehe. Well see yall next weekend!

kartrun- I used that Schumacher dyno. Don't bother. If you're looking for one, get a Fantom Facts Machine or CE. For some reason, I couldn't get consistent results with the Schumacher. I could dyno the same motor 3 times and get very different results each time. I thought it was just me, but someone else tried it and had the same problem.

Thanks for the heads up again cosmo...twice in one day!You my guardian angel or something? lol now there's a funny thought:D Anyways,i'm not sure what i'll do for a dyno...don't really like them anyways for the simple fact of what you said.....anyways,i think the best dyno in the world is the track.Really all i need it for is to compare motors so i'm in no big hurry. The lathe is the first thing i need right now so i can do my business like i want and offer my services at the track.
JimmyMac
04-14-2002, 01:45 PM
Kartrun, you have no lathe? How do you do motors without a lathe?? :D Shocking. I have a Fantom dyno. It's pretty nice. I don't have a laptop so I have to hook it up to my desktop. I have a newer austrailian beta version of the Dos Program. It allows you to hook up your 3000HV pack instead of a car battery/charger combo. Should give more "realistic" results this way. But I haven't tried it. It also has a drag racing program inside that tells you what rpm, secs, you will have at 132feet (plus other feet as well.) Just type in your rear tire dia, gear ratio, weight, test voltage, number of cells. Anyways, there is also the windows version of Facts. I have the demo. Though it's limited, it's great. Lets you convert the 5volt dyno runs to 7.2volt. Blah blah blah. Anyways, as a test, I took one of my Fantom motors and ran it on my dyno. I got the exact same results on my dyno compared to the dyno printout that I got that came with the motor. Well not the exact same, maybe .01 off or so. Or XX,X01 rpm off. :p But still the same. Nice Dyno. But read up on others. I only know what this one does because I have one hehe. Hmmm someday I'll test out that dos one with use of my 3000HV.......
Anyways, back to charging up my E-Maxx. Gonna go jump it 5 feet in the air again today. This time I hope not to hit the corner of the house....

As long as it's not a pan and and it's eletric, you will beable to run it in the Stock or Mod Electric Class. Can't help you on the Solder though. I'd think... I'd think if it's 130watt gun, then you'd need 150watt supplyl. But I'm not too sure. The might draw alot to "reheat" or "regain" heat after a quick solder. They do have cheapo 300watt ones around. You might beable to pick up a DC soldering iron like me. Don't ask me where I got mine, I won mine at an RC Race in Japan. It's an old Kyosho ceramic iron. Works Great! As long as you give it time to heat up and don't have any wind blowing on it.
Anyways, uhhh, I'm still prepping my stuff. Waiting for a few items to arrive so that I can try another setup on my TC3. I should buy another TC3 Racer just for Stock class. Then I don't have to keep switching motors back and forth. Hmmmmmmm I test car... Hmmmmmmmm.... Hmmmmmmmmmm... :D So uhhh anyways, gotta get the pan car out. I might actually have time to toss in my radio gear from my T3. Already have my servo in it. Just gotta get my wires sorted out for my ESC and find a Male Deans plug for the ESC. I think it's gonna be made silly fast! I just don't think it'll handle in the turns with those Blue Compound tires. hehe. :p So off I go to work on the car(s). Got some more work to do on the TC3. I could probably get you a Brand new Racer kit for under $140. Rolling, I could build it and it'll be freeeee rolling. Hehe. But you'd have to paint the body. Oh, and glue your own damn tires... hehe. Hmmm still thinking on getting a new TC. I might get another TC3. One for Mod and one for Stock (and spare parts.) Hmmmmmmm Damn it Jim! got a hold on him 3 times today.First he broke a brush spring in his heat.....a brush spring!!! I couldn't believe it...i have never in the 14+ years i've been in R/C seen one break before! But there was a plus because before he broke he managed to turn the fastest lap of the day in 1/10th mod at a 15.9.Anyways,then there was the main.Started 8th cause of what happened in the heat and had worked his way up to second trying to run down Jimmy....great job Jimmy, awesome race....and got clipped by another car and it managed to damaged his right rear shock and knocked him out the race.I appologize again Jimmy for not introducing myself...i was soooo busy helping chris i really had no free time but i'll get up with you soon.again, great job Jimmy, the TC3 was flying.....well,time to do a tear down on the mod Chris was running.....we'll get em next time ;)

Now, if we can just get some of the Chapel Hill people to come up here....
Oh, by the way, there's a very good possibility there will be an indoor track here soon. I'm going to talk to the people Tuesday. It's big enough that we'll have a good sized road course, an oval, and a separate Micro track. Hopefully a hobby shop too. I'll keep everyone posted.

Hey Chris J, I'll email you his email address. But I don't know if he'll respond to your email... hehe. Good run though, I think your 10x2 was faster than my 8x2. Plus yours is hand wound. But I did have my timing waaay down. :D Your stock was fast too. I guess I had a lucky day. Won both Stock and Mod Electric. Wish Chris Cash would have had a better run. But there is always next time! He must of had the gremlins I had the race before in Mod class. :D Thanks Kartrun. I was wondering where you were or if you showed up at all. hehe. We'll see next time though. Still working on my setup. Had too much push still. But that just makes it easier to drive (but not as fast as I like.) Got a few more things to try next race. Actually, my stock car handled pretty good. It was my Mod that I was having trouble with.
Anyways, it was a fun day. They actually put a few more cars in the heats. Watch out for that red number 5 transponder. I got screw using that one in the mod class. I got it again for the Stock main. I wonder if it was switching it backwards that made it read all my laps this time?! I dunno, but the green 5 transponder works. Hmmmmm. Well I think they still have tooo many gas classes. They could at least eliminate one class.
Well I sit here all sun burnt.. :( But I had a blast. Can't wait til next race! Then I can get burnt again! See yall there! Oh, and congrats to all the other winners! Tiffany for her 2nd place in Novice and Todd for this 3 wheel victory in Gas Touring whatever class.. hehe. L8Rz!

04-23-2002, 07:27 AM
A lot of the problem is that you're running a T3. The tires on that are so big, that in order to make it accelerate you have to gear it down a lot. Of course that kills your top speed. But if you gear it up to increase your top end, you won't have any acceleration. Unfortunately, it's hard to get an off road car to run with on road cars on the road. Just like if I was to take a TC3 to an off road track - sure, it would get around the track, but not nearly as fast as the off road cars.
One option you have is to switch to buggy tires and wheels. They are smaller in diameter, and you can gear them easier.
JimmyMac

Hey Ron, you getting my emails ya big lunk! Wait... let me guess, you forgot your password again!! :p Let me know if you got it. Yeah, give up the T3 and get a TC3. It's the only way you'll compete against us Tourers... :p It would be like what Cosmo said about TC's running on offroad... although I think I'd still kill a T3 because 4wd offroaders can hehe. Just need the rally kit. :D Anyways, just imagine Nitro Trucks running against the Nitro Pro Touring or something. Still not too fair. I think they should though... They should run Nitro Trucks with Nitro Touring because Eletric Trucks have to run with Electric Touring Cars. hehe... But seriously, they should have a separate Touring Class and an Offroad Car/Truck Electric Class. Or just run them all in different heats than the Touring Cars but still under Electric Mod/Stock. I think it would make us both happy. But I doubt that will ever happen. Wanna compete? Get a TC3. I'll give you a setup for it once you get one up and running.

Hey, SBR, I took second last fall with my T3 against a few other touring cars. Of course, if you saw my chassis you'd know why it's soooo much LIGHTER than your T3. Lower the shocks, get some Striker tires, and gear the thing to the moon! You get that thing about 1/4 inch off the ground, put on a body with a light paint job to keep the weight lower on the chasssis, stiffen up the suspension, maybe even make your own sway bars, all that'll help. But, if you think about getting a TC3, or even maybe an older Street Weapon, let me know. Heck, the Street Weapon can go for around 50 or so just the rolling stuff, no electrics. You saw it Sunday, it was the Blue 300M that I broke in the heat, but hammerd Mareen in the B-main.

Ron, forgot to mention that they didn't race Micros last weekend there. So maybe you shouldn't bring it. Anyways, the guy there was hoping that you could come. So I hope you can. Or I'll get stuck with all the questions about the AMB. Not sure if the P/T will work yet with it (guess it depends on what program they have) but mine is in my pit box. Anyways, see yall there! So how was the race last weekend? I was in Jamaica and couldn't make it. Thought about y'all on Sunday though. Anyway, did the club work out the logistical problems they had last time? My days are numbered if I'm gonna be there until 9p.m. again. How was the turnout? How many races with only one runner?
They need to PACK those heats... even if it means 10 or 12 racers in one and only 2 in another. Don't make it harder than it needs to be by trying to make all the heats even in size. You're racing the clock AND trying to have fun and races with more entries equals more fun. For both racer and spectator. Remember, when we are not racing, most of us are watching and don't want to see me (Gonzo) run around the track by myself looking doofy. With Ron Zee barking out funny-ass driving tips and slap-stick insults to me. How do I know how I'm doing with the setup if I can't size up against the competition?
Anyhoo, I hope it went better than the first R/C Week Of Chapel Hill Hell. Boy, it gets boring out there sometimes. I'll see everyone next weekend and hope that some more people start to post here.
Later dooooooods,
G

You should have saved you bitching till AFTER the the third race. :D They ran it much better although they did have some transponder problems with them not reading. The heats were more packed, and we got some of your Jamaican sun with alot of sunburns. I think there were something like 17 heats this time. I know I got out of there way before the sun went down last race. I don't think you'll have a problem Gonzo. How was Jamaica? Nice clear water, go SCUBA diving any?
Anyways, I think I've found a setup now for Chapel Hill. After yesterdays race at Virginia Beach, it gave me some idea's for setup. I did TQ for Stock up there and 2nd for Mod. But I ended up 3rd in both classes in the main. Much stiffer competition up there! We're talking guys that have run for over 20years! Anyways, I was hooked up during the day there. Then the temperature dropped down and out of the range of my tires. So I need to get another pair of tires for when that happenes. Pointer for newbies.... Soft Compound tires are for Cold/Warm track temperature. Medium Compound tires are for Warm/Hot track temp. Hard Compound is for Hot track temp.
Well let me head out. hope to see you guys this coming Sunday at Chapel Hill again!

I guess I wasn't really bitching too hard. Just stating what nobody else seems to want to admit. That's just me, I guess.
Jamaica was nice... as it always is (this was trip number 12). I'm not into SCUBA too much. Sure I'd like to, but snorkeling seems to suit me fine. This trip we stayed on the south coast and the water wasn't clear at all. It was alot like NC coastal water, but with no waves. It was, however, nice and warm. We basically spend seven wonderful days staring at the ocean. It was nice.
Your post rings a bell with me. Stock electric... we need to score the trucks seperately. The only chance I have of winning is if all the TC's that race either break or crash. With these big heavy trucks with big round wheels I just can't compete. It doesn't quite seem fair. I burn up motors trying to gear to a TC's speed. I'm close to just racing the Nitro Truck out there and going back to a dirt setup only for the electric to race at Rosewood and Hope Mills. Please, don't tell me I just need to buy a XXX-S or TC-3 because I'm not gonna do it. I'm in this hobby too deep to change vehicles now. I just can't afford it and just plain don't want to. I'm tooled-up for the two vehicles I have and don't want to start over.
Ron, we would love for you to hit the mic out there. This brings up another issue. WE CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING FROM THE PA. Not a new issue, mind you, but one that needs addressing. Someone needs to tell the club members I know what I'm talking about when it comes to sound. They didn't want to listen to me. The solution is so simple and yet Tom and Chris brushed me off.
JUST PUT THE DAMN SPEAKERS ON TOP OF THE RV!!! That's all. It gets the sound above any blockages and keeps them far enough away from the mic as to not cause feedback when you turn up the volume. Which, by-the-way, can be cranked up pretty loud with the speakers so far form the mic. Okay, I guess the fact that they are only stereo speaker doesn't help matters, but this solution will work WONDERS. I'm sure of it.
I'll be there Sunday and I think I'm gonna grab the umbrella of the deck so I don't ruin my all over tan with another farmer's tan from Chapel Hill.
Later doooooooods,

That's my old baby. She has a new home now. But I held it today. I like that car. Why I got rid of it I don't know. Looks af if some things might have been changed. Not sure. But I do know that one or two stickers were taken off and a couple added on. Anyways don't side swipe her. :D If you need some help setting it up (you know who you are) let me know. I ran Orions, compound depends on temp. Other good tires to run are Sorex or TakeOff. Can't go wrong with any of those 3. Just get the right compound. If you have a nitro, you should have a laser temp gun. If you do, aim it at the track and see what temp it is. Then use the compound that suits that temp. I use A compound. If the weather gets cool like it did for the mains in Virginia Beach, you car will loosen up alot. B compound would have been a better choice then. For TakeOffs try CS-27 and/or CS-32. Sorex 28R or 32R. More than likely 32R. Maybe even 36R if it gets super hot. But I imagine it won't til Summer time. So summer time use Sorex 36R, TakeOff CS32 or CS37, or Orion A or D compound. You could use foams. But with a dusty track, it doesn't help. Don't use traction compound. It'll eat away the tires more and will pick up alot of dust. Just clean them off with soap/water or simple green. Hope this helps! :D Hey Gonzo, if ya got it... flaunt it! :p Well at least for the women... ;) See yall Sunday. That's cool Kartrun. I'm sure we'll see alittle more competition come in here soon. I should have a few aces up my sleeve for this Sundays race as well. Hopefully my gremlins went out in the first race. By the way, does anyone know about the Gift Certificates? I have like $40 worth and was wondering if I can just hand them over and get myself a new Stock Motor at Hungates? Or do I have to actually purchase something? I'll have to find out I guess Sunday. Hopefully I can so I can have a new motor for the race. The one I race isn't really mine even though I tuned it. It's a GM3. If I can't get a new motor there, I'll have to run my high rpm MVP. We'll see.
Anyways, hey Ron! Steve coming this weekend or what? I heard someone got a new TC3? Was it Chris or Steve? Mine is still being put together. Ever sooo slowly... but correctly. I stopped by but you were gone. Saw your mom. I gave her your cam that I borrowed. Well let me head back out. L8Rz

No prob Billy. If you find TakeOFF's, they come with good inserts. Sorex and/or Orions you'd want to use firms. 24mm of course. Try for a nice hard rim/wheel. Nothing soft like prolines. Hard Plasitc is what you need. Yokomo ABS Dish are nice. That's what I use. The kit tires aren't tooo bad as long as you get some REAL inserts. Not 24mm, but 26mm foams. I made the mistake and put in 24mm for my first race at Chapel Hill. They did okay, but the wear was horrible. I might beable to let you borrow mine Orions Sunday. Not sure, we'll see. Just let me know if you found any of those tires. Welp, let me get back to my building my new TC3 Racer kit. See yall Sunday...

Whats going on everyone? Hope everybody is getting ready for this weekend. I will be pushing it since I wont get my new FT TC3 till Friday. I guess that means Ill be up late working on it.:D
Sorry about this past weekend Jimmy, I forgot you didnt have my number. I dont know what I was thinking, it must have been because it was so late when I got home. lol. Hey when I build my new car I need to take the seals out of one side of the bearings and motor spray the grease out right? What kind of oil do I need to put in? Also, I need to make sure the bearings in the transmission case arent too tight right? Anything else or is that about it? Sorrry about all the questions but I want this car to be right. This is going to be my stock car for now because maybe I wont break it as bad as in mod.

Anyhow, I called Steve and he's not sure what'll happen this Sun, as his Grandmother is back in the Hospital again. He did say that he'll know more by Sat. as to his going or not.
Hey,, what about me?? I'm second in the points in stock!! Maybe this week I can get down to last!!! God, my driving sucks sometimes,,,,
After the Regionals in Rosewood, my T3 is going to get overhald and it's going to morph into ,,, X-Ray!! Yep, next time I go to Va. beach, I'm gonna show them how to run a truck!! Out there they separate the touring cars from the trucks. I'd run it in Chapel Hill, but not with touring cars.
Oh, Might have 2 new faces there this weekend. Chris Pinto and Tim Harrington both said their gonna run. Pinhead in stock and Tim in Nitro TC. Hey Jimmy, Tim needs you to get ahold of him to work on a setup for his Nitro TC3. Says it's pushing way to much off-power??
Also, should the Mnster make a showing this weekend? Been a long time since he's stretched his legs,,,,,

First of all, use the same oil that you would use on the bearings on a modified motor. You may have to take some sandpaper or an Xacto and remove a little material where the bearings go on the transmission cases. Also, (I'm assuming you're talking about a TC3) the support that holds the bearing in front of the spur gear should be just tight enough to keep the shaft from moving around. That is a big source of friction.
JimmyMac
05-02-2002, 10:10 PM
Do what he said Chris.... I use some funky watery oil in my bearings. I take off all the inner seals except the one that is infront of the spur. That bearing you do not take any seals off. I soak mine in Electric motor spray to get the packing oil out. Then I dump them out and resoak them again in the cleaner. Then let them dry while you start to build your kit. I only add one tiny drop of my super thin oil. This to me is still tooo much as the bearing won't spin as freely as without, but I guess we need oil in there if we don't want to change them out all the time. Remember when you are shaving out your bearing housing on your tranny cases.... when you put your diff in one half... flip it upside down and the diff should instantly fall out. It should not be stuck in there or hesitate falling out. I also don't run shims in mine. But that's just me. I might eat my gears someday... but til then......
Well my TC3 is build now. I just have to glue my new tires and toss in my electronics. I'm having a problem deciding if I should run my Quantum Sport ESC or my Tekin G10. I'm just scared I'll fry the Sport in Stock Class. Hmmmm that would put me down in points. But then again, I can always toss the race. Hmmmmm decisions decisions..... Well let me get back to work...... Damn... gotta paint my body too! Well I don't, I'll still be running my Superman bod.... but... uhhh I dunno..... drats.......

I'm almost there lol.Been up building motors all day today for sunday and i got some awesome numbers from a 10 turn quint.Talked with Chris today and i think thats what we'll run on sunday cause it sure was making some great RPMs and i think we all know the track is fast. Also we figured "ok,the track has gone to roar so why not run a 10 turn and see what she'll do within roar limits".So,Jimmy did you ever decide if you wanted to try one of my motors??Just let me know sometime cause i could use a strong runner in stock or another one in modified.Well, sundays almost here, better finish putting the "secret sauce" on my modifieds lol:D See you guys there!;)

Stock huh? Well I would either run an MVP or a GM3. I love my GM3's but my MVP has more rpms. So I'm thinking about giving that a try. What's your strong motor? I think I might try and run Stock for ya. We'll talk about it at the track if you want. Or email me. Let me know price and whatnot. Still looking to get a GM3 at Hungates with my Gift Certs if they have any. Hmmmmm As for Mod. I think I'll stick with what I got right now until I'm convinced otherwise. I tried 10t motor for my first race. It was fast, but not fast enough. My 8x2 was doin me plenty good, even with my timing way down. Although Chris J's hand wound 10x2 was bloody fast. Of course maybe it was his newer and better batteries. :D We'll see. Time to try some of my Aces. You guys are just lucky I couldn't find a handwound 7x2 arm for my Ti. Maybe next time? hahaha yeah right. Anywho, the TC3 is together. Gonna try out a Quantum Sport for Stock class. I'll let yall know if I fry it Sunday.
Well let me go now to cut out and paint my 300M body for the Racer. I'll save my "other" new Stratus body for some "chrome." Catch yall Sunday! Oh yeah, cool Chris... we can ride in luxury. Oh yeah, I have my own sway bars too. So I'll give you the one that I borrowed off ya. Oh yeah also, bring the FT TC3 to the track even if you don't finish it. Okie dokie Jimmy. My strong motor?Well for stock it would be a MVP.Mt latest MVPs have Reedy 767 brushes that have been narrowed down to a .140" face that really set it on fire. The brush hoods have been aligned, magnets zapped, armature shafts polished and the armature has been drill balanced. They are a little on the expensive side but you can't get motors like these from the factory. If you want one they are $45.We should be lucky you couldn't find a 7 turn arm huh??lol you trip me out Jimmy:D Ok,my turn lol Chris broke but he still turned the fastest lap of the day in mod at the last race.;) You turned 14 laps in 4:02 in qualifying and Chris turned 11 in 2:55 when he broke.Way i see it he was on his way to a 15 lap qualifier cause he was turning on an average of 16 second laps flat.Just some friendly competiton Jimmy,i mean no harm by it of course...just having fun. You're good Jimmy,i would love to have you on board.See ya sunday:)

southbornracer- go to www.competitionx.com. In the "R/C Tuning" section there are setup sheets. The guy that runs that site is one of Associated's team drivers. The setup I ran there last time came directly from there. I'd say it was pretty close. I ran the same number of laps as Jimmy in the heat, but I broke in the main.
JimmyMac
05-04-2002, 11:46 PM
Hey Kartrun, I was robbed in that Mod heat race because my transponder wasn't working. So I actually got TQ (but not credited with it) and it was a 15lap run, not 14 like the paper said. :D So I lost my 3 points. :( hehehe. Talk about a hot stock motor. We'll talk tomorrow.......
Hey Billy, my setup will be different than most because I run a different chassis (IRS chassis.) Flex is alittle different. I would run a setup close to the Worlds setup in the manual (without the oneway and 4degree caster blocks.) I'll let you know how mine runs tomorrow. I do have my springs on backwards though. Silver up front and golds rear. 40wt up front and 30wt in rear. Hmmm see me at the track if you have it.

Okay guys,, next time we all say we're going to meet at 9, lets make it 9 next time, not like yesterday!!! LOL!!
Good racing, Still need to work on my driving, but those tires I just got for my TC3,, Man, did they help out!! But,, the Street Weapon still likes the V-Rages!!
Ended up third in Stock, coulda been better, considering SBR's car and mine were turn marshalled by SBR himself!!! SORRY, SORRY turn marshalling this weekend. Hold off on giving out prizes untill after ALL racing is over, then at least some of the drivers will be there to marshall the last few races!!
Only other things are, if we had to join ROAR to run, and this track is ROAR sanctioned, why aren't the electrics allowed to run 5 minutes like in the rule book??
And only because I coulda finished second in stock, In the rule book it says that if the transponder falls out, you need to stop and put it back in. If you don't, laps are not counted. If it malfuntions, you'd count them, but if it falls out,,,, I know this would've cost a driver the win, but it is in the rule book. Why have one if it's not used?
Other than these nitpicking things,, I had a great time yesterday, and as long as it doen't rain next time,, I'll be there!!!!
P.S. Hey Maureen, you shoulda bought my Street Weapon!!!

Hey guys and gals. Had fun yesterday. I too had Gremlins strike me as well. Luckily it wasn't mod class. But it happened in Stock. My motor came loose during the race and was eatting away my spur. I was fast too. I think I did a couple 16.9 second laps in Stock. Anyways, I'll settle for my B-main win. Wish I could of had another qualifier though! :D It's gonna be a close one to see if Ron got the edge on me in points!
Mod I seemed pretty ballistic fast as I blew by everyone on the straight. But I'm still pushing a tad more in the infield. I have a new chassis coming next week as a temporary fix for this until I can get my chassis stiffening kit. My car might be flexing tooo much. I'll have to see when I get it. Plus I have a few things I want to try out in Virginia Beach this Saturday. Anyways I enjoyed swapping paint at the start of the race with Steve Cummings. Just too bad his pinion let go. Too many Gremlins in Mod!
Nice meeting you too Kartrun. You should have at least one of your motors at the race so you can sell it to someone! Do you have a banner yet? Stick a big banner by your pit area and you might sell tons of your motors! I was looking to buy an MVP off ya yesterday!! Well I think I'll stick with my Green Machine 3 for now. It may not be the fastest on the straight. But it does me plenty good on the track.
I was hoping Chris Cash would of had a good run in Mod. Just seems like too many people were twitching that day. I didn't have any problems twitching with the exception when they had two of us in the same heat with the same frequency. Luckily I had a spare set of crystals in my pocket. Chris Johnson was having a good run until a turn marshall stepped right in front of his car on near the end of the straight. That caused his battery to become undone.
Tim had a very very very fast NTC3! Ballistic! I believe he had a 17 lap run in Intermediate Nitro. And that's with a pit stop in the middle of the race! With alittle more smoother driving, he could easily run on top with the Pro Nitro guys. Which they told him he had to run next race. :p Good win Tim!
Anyways, that was just alittle brief from the races yesterday. I enjoyed the day and can't wait til the next run! Oh yeah, a tip for some of you nitro guys. I noticed a couple of kids running their cars without a hole in the body. That's not good. Cut a nice hole in the windshield of the car right in front of the engine. I don't know if they read this website. But just in case.... Oh, and run foams not rubbers for Nitro! I forgot to mention that my tire tips were for Electric guys only hehe. Even though rubbers may work good. Foams will make it better. (someone here who knows I'm talking about them because they were running tires I said to use, but they had them on their nitro :D )
Well that's all the babbling I'll do before Gonzo hops on here and comments that I type alot for a guy who doesn't say much at the track. :p lol.... I believe that was a "quote" too! hahaha... Take it easy guys... and gals...

ps. Chris Johnson, let me know if you still want to go to VA Beach Saturday!

Jimmy- how come you run harder springs in the back than in front, but softer oil?
JimmyMac
05-07-2002, 10:06 PM
Hmmm you know, that's a good question. haha. I guess I never thought of that. I guess I should've just switched the shocks over instead of the springs. haha. Just been paying too much attention to other setups while trying to setup my own I guess. But I always run either equal wt. oil between front/rear or a "heavier" wt. oil up front than rear. Never have I run heavier rear than front. I think I'll run equal wt. next time. Gonna try 40wt all around. I think the main reason though is weight transfer entering a turn. Even though the spring controls stiffness of the shock, the oil controls the dampening/rebound. I think with lighter oil up front, the cars steering will become too twitchy and unpredictable. The spring will then be doin all the work. I dunno. I may be wrong, but uhhh sounds good to me! :D But anyways, I'll go with same all the way around. Thanks for pointing that out to me Cosmo. You gonna make it up next race? Hey Ron email me with my info. Chris J. you gonna race VA Beach Saturday? Let me know so I/we can plan the trip up. Gonna have to leave early if you want some practice! Bring your mod and stock TC3. L8Rs...

Ok Mr. Chris Cash,, the wwhat's upebsite says it was updated, but no new pics and no new points. What's up?? LOL
Had a good time other than what I said earlier, but next time, I think the Low Budget Team needs some kind of shade!!! 3 days later, and I'm still red!!
Hey Jimmy, good thing I gave Tim the foams huh??? Too bad he killed them!! Anyhow, I know he'll have some new ones to cook next time out.
Hey, almost 2 years out of racing, and Chris Pinto is getting a factory team car?? And to think he said he didn't miss racing,,,,
Me?? I'm still gonna run my 2 cars, but I need to practice more. Oh,,, X-Ray is almost alive!! He should return soon,, maybe even this weekend in Va. beach!! Let me know if you and Chris J are going, I'll meet you both there!! Unless you want to come here first to get me???

I know I'll be goin to VA Beach. The points are posted now and I'm leading Mod and Stock Classes. Ron you are under me in Stock by like 3 or 4 points! I just hope I don't have any Gremlins for the next race. :D I did dyno my GM3 and found that it's way under it's power by like 4 or 5 from what it used to be. I have a new GM3 though and dyno'd it. It's pretty good. Not my best, but about 3 points under what my other one used to pull. But the RPM's are WAY up. A good Chapel Hill motor. So Ron, uhhhh when you gonna EMAIL me about some things huh???
Anyways, back to VA Beach, I dunno if Chris J is gonna go or not. It's Thursday night and still no response from him about goin. I hope you have your foam tires just in case it rains. I believe last Saturday it rained so they went indoors to race the carpet track. So I'm assuming that's what they'll do again. I'll post Trinity just to make sure. Weekend is almost here and I still can't wait til next weekend for Chapel Hill. Oh yeah, forgot Rosewood as the ROAR Region 3 Offroad race next Saturday. Gonna be busy I guess. I'll just toss the T3 together and piece a few motors together for the race.
Well take it easy! Email me Chris J and Ron Zeeee

Anyhow, more later,,, OH,, Chris Cash e-mailed me,, said that STOCK is going to be a 5 minute race now, but mod will stay 4. At least it's something,,,
Hope to see everyone next race,, and yes Jimmy, I am hoping you have a messed up heat race!!! LOLOLOL Or at least finish behind me in the mains!!! LOLOL :D

Okay about my setup that I posted. It might give you tooo much push if you use it. You can try it, but if you do... I would go with the camber links on the lower inner hole both front/rear. If you get too much steering, take off the rear sway bar and put it up front.
Anyways, Virginia Beach was fun. Ended up 2nd in Stock and 3rd in Mod. My GM3 was pretty fast. I also learned that I like Chris J's stock setup better than mine. Too bad I didn't have time to switch to it. But I'll be using something very similar to it for Chapel Hill. Plus alittle ace up my sleeve for Stock.
As far as Mod goes, gonna try another chassis and setup. Just wish we had more practice time at the 'Hill. But with all those missing Freq clips, that's kinda hard ta do. Well see you guys and gals Sunday!

Seems Glenn has his T-Maxx almost ready to roll, I think he's gonna try to come out this Sun. to run at C.H. Lots of eye candy on this thing,, if it goes half as fast as it looks like it could,,, look out!!!

hello everyone.looking foward to racing this sunday.bought some foams i'm going to try on the tc3.maybe won't slide so much in the turns.tiffany will be sporting a new car to run in novice this weekend.hopefullly i have got her glitching problem fixed.
i've got a ?,,,,before they put that metal bridge up i wasn't having that much of a problem glitching.last time with the metal bridge up i was glitching right there at it every time.so were alot of other people.could the bridge being metal cause a problem with interference?well, hope to see everyone there........................billy

05-15-2002, 09:26 PM
The bridge is metal? I never had a glitching problem. So I dunno. But it's a great possiblity. They should dump the bridge and use a rubber mat on the ground. It's what they do up in Virginia Beach at Debbies and at Hobbytown USA. No problems with doin it like that at all! Plus you don't have to listen to them telling you that you have to mount the transponders up high BS. Anyways, see yall there. Hope the foams do good for you Billy. I slid around too much when I used mine. Hope you have traction compound!!

Naw,,, I'm pretty sure that bridge is wood,,, but ya never know,,, I think that the biggest glitching problem out there is people not really knowing what channel they are on to begin with. Being over at the table and hearing so many drivers saying, it's on 85,, I think,,, That's a big thing out there,, happens all the time at sign in. Watch when you sign up this weekend.
Hey,, Chris Cash,, you out there?? E- mail me about Autoscore.
Weather is supposed to be ok,,, I just hope the Regionals don't last more than 1 day. That'd really mess me up.

Thanks Kartrun. I felt the pinch in both Stock and Mod. Qualified 2nd in both, but took home the wins in both! :D The weather got cooler. So my tires were out of range. I went and put on some foams for the mains. Worked great! Didn't have that tragic mod start that I did in qualifying when my car spun into the barrier at the start tone! I have some new rubber tires now though for when the temperature drops. We should start calling you Backrun or something. :p Remember, Pos + is to the Left of the timing mark! Anyways, I had a great setup for Stock class which I was very please with. Mod setup needs some work still. Perhaps I'll try my Stock setup on my Mod car. If anyone wants it, I can post it.
Well it was a fun day and can't wait til next race. I'd love to see them run 2 heats and a main. Or even bump up heats where if you win Bmain, then you bump up to Amain. This will give others a chance who might break in the qualifying run a chance to be in the Main where they would have been. Its very simple to do and I'm sure their program supports it. I know Chris Cash or even myself could of used a bump up system. They do it here at Rosewood and I beleive they might still do it at Stoney Point. All that is needed is an extra charged battery laying around or some extra gas. Hell, as long as they take getting the gas cars running there will be enough time TO charge a battery!! :D I just wish they'd cut down on the classes and pack in 10 cars a race whether it's qualifying or mains. But with 17 heats (and 5 minutes between each) that equals to almost 3 hours to finish one round. Then add another 3 hours to finish the mains. Starting at 1pm... we would "in theory" get out by 7pm. Not bad... but add a 2nd qualifying... thats 10pm! Thats not bad either.... if it was a Saturday night. :D
I think I've blabbed too much... gotta look up some part numbers... Take it easy..... anyone up for Virginia Beach Saturday?? I might beable to make up!

Hey Ron and Chris J, there is a Trophy Touring car race at RaceCity (Mooresville) on June 1st (Saturday.) I'll be heading out there. Just wondering if you guys would like to go as well. Waiting on more details. Carpet of course. Need those Plaids/Purples! Of course I already have a set from RaceCity before. If yall do go, we'll need some white springs up front and purple springs rear. Might need to get them from Virginia Beach or when we get to RaceCity. I only plan on racing Stock Class. So only one car is need (maybe two, one for back up!) Anyways, let me know!

P.S. Let Pinhead (that's what yall call him) and Steve D know too. :p

Hello everyone-
I had a great time on Sunday. My XXX-NT went to $hit just as the track opened (threw a rod bearing), but Jamie (Buddy's friend) drove up with his GT and let me race it to 4th in the A-Main. Happy me!
The XXX-T/MF is starting to really $uck. I mean it handles well, but just isn't fast enough to keep up with the touring cars. I have been pushing them to score the trucks away from the other stock electric classes and it keeps falling on deaf ears. Ida know, I want to compete with you guys, but I think I'm gonna have to find a way to spring for a touring car rig.
With all that said, I want to field a few topics for us all to talk about:
First, Paul, Buddy, and I are all thinking of going with touring car rigs. I've been a Losi fan since the get-go, but the TC3 seems hard to pass up. I like the shaft driven 4WD. It just seems way more efficient than a belt would be. And lower maintenance too. I hate to dump $300+ dollars into it, but I will if I have to. Which kit should I look for? Team or Factory Team? Help us decide because I think we are all three gonna get the same thing at the same time. Where should we look to get the best deal for buying three cars at once? Or should we be looking at the XXX-S? Jeeeez--- I HATE decisions like this... I mean, I'm already tooled-up for Losi and to go with an Associated seems like a lot of my Losi stuff will not be useable.
Second, what do ya'll think about the club wanting to drop the truck classes? Ya' know it figures that I now own two trucks and since one is not competitive and the other is in a class that might be struck from next year's schedule, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Seems to me that the 1/10th Nitro truck class is pretty popular. Why drop it just because it is primarily an off-road vehicle? T-Maxx/Monster Trucks I can't comment on (and won't pretend I know what their deal is), but it also seems to always have an ok turn out.
I would rather see the club try and combine some classes and try and shave time by packing the heats slam full and sticking to their guns with start times. There was no reason to have two Novice stock classes last week with only 10 entries. However, I don't know enough about the other classes to try and expertly find places to combine classes. I'll leave that to ya'll.
Third, I talked to Tom and Will about doing a pit-man start for all nitro classes and we are going to talk about it at the next drivers meeting. They have talked about it before and are ready to implement it. All this jockeying for start position like it was a sailboat race or something is stupid and unfair. It negates half of the reason for qualifying. What the point of TQing if someone from the back of the field get the jump on you because you are driving around in circles making sure you car is still running? I saw one race where the TQ was at the #1 position and when the tone sounded the #8 driver was already around on the straightaway. It's stupid. The plan is to have a pit-buddy and start along the wall. With +/- 75 people out there everyone will be able to find a pit-buddy. If not then I'll do it for 10 people if I have to. I mean, half of this sport is social. Right?
Boy, when I get on a roll I'll talk forever. Sorry- Thanks for your time.
Later dooooooods,
Gonzo-
