I just got the J3 stick the other day and everything went together well and I'm ready to go at 200 grams even but I can't get the CG right gosh darn it !! Would I be right in thinking that the rectangular spot on the undersides of the wings are the CG reference ? They are located about 30-35 mm back from the leading edge which I would think is about right. Anyway if they are the CG reference I cannot get the thing to balance with the IPS\wing mount dimensions given in the manual. The manual gives a distance, from the backside of the IPS to the center of the front wing mount, of 55mm which it is right now and it won't balance out at all. If I move everything backward and increase the 55mm to like 100mm it will balance but this can't be right...right ??

Moving the RX, speed control and 6 cell 150mAh pack around does not help at all when I use the 55mm dimension in the manual.

Any help would be appreciated :)

your cg is (I think, check manual) 100mm from the IPS.
Ignore the 55 for the leading edge. take a pen and mark off 100mm from the IPS on the wood. then move your wings back and forth untill it balances at that pen mark.

Hope this helps

I fly my stick with a cg range of between .5-1.0 inches back from the flat spots you mentioned on the underside of the wings. Those pads are for the strut mounts if you decide to use them. Further aft cg makes the plane more nimble but also more squirrely. Stock battery mount is a pain. I tossed it, use a piece of .125 ply on top of stick between the wings and velcro to hold pack. Using 7 cell 270 mah nicads the pack is about at the leading edge.
