So do you like it

cool car

It isnt that bad after you get the machined bevel gears. The only problems I had was a broken arm stripped bevel gears [not anymore] and I blew a dogbone otherwise its a great truck after you get the gears and learn to control it.

i saw a video of it and it looks really overkill

im pretty interested in it , cuz of all the good looking parts and stuff

so i was wondering what is the top speed and is it stable when u turn at high speeds or is it t-maxx like and just a crazy ride

also whats a axis compare to it, and would the axis be a better choice for me since i want a more controlable and stable ride

Bullet 87
06-05-2002, 02:30 PM
The top speed of it is arund 40mph and it is noting like a t-maxx. When you turn at fulol speed it will not flip at all. It slides. i try to flip mine on asphault and it would not at all. if you are interested in one i am selling mine. if you are interested e-mail me at Bullet87@maxxtraxx.com and i will give all you the info on it.

How does this truck compare to the Stampede? Tower wants 60 bucks more for it, but I don't mind if its 60 bucks worth better.

nascar3
06-06-2002, 01:17 PM
For $60 more you get a .16 not a .15 aluminum tuned pipe, 2 speed tranny, full ball bearings, aluminum threaded shocks, aluminum steering bellcrank, threaded turnbuckles, aluminum steering knuckles, aluminum rear axle carriers, aluminum radio tray aluminum chassis, aluminum shock towers and a nitro starter kit complete with batteries for tx and rx. That is definately worth the $60

OrcSlayer

Good Point. :) You mention the MT Pro has an aluminum chassis. Is this implying the Stampede doesn't?

Edit: One more question, what about the standard Max. MT? I know the hop-ups included on the pro make it a better value, but I am really on a budget. However, I read that the standard MAX. MT had some durability problems that the Pro version fixed. Thanks again.

is the axis worth 40 $ more then the max mt pro
cuz im more into 4wd vehicles cuz of their complexity compared to 2wd and i want something that will hit 40mhp easy and in a small amount of space wich is y i am considering axis or any buggy based monster truck in the 500$ range not rtr

Bullet 87
06-07-2002, 11:17 PM
The max mt is only one speed and is all plastic parts but the mt pro is 2 speed and is mostly aluminun. I can hit 40mph in about a 75 yards that is if it is tuned right. Actually if i were you i would consider buying the axix instread of the mt pro mainly because it is a 4-wheel drive bugy with a .21 not a .16 which is always better. And it has more hop ups.

I was thinking about getting the mt Pro, but then I saw the terra crusher. The lack of size, 4wd and reverse led me away from the mt pro. I still am in the market for a truck, havent bought one yet, and was wondering what your thoughts on the two trucks, and if it is worth it for the extra $$$ for the terra crusher?

Bullet 87
06-19-2002, 12:09 PM
Yes i do think the extra money is worth it for the Terra crusher. The TC is a 1/8 scale 4wd monster truck which is very big. The TC would be much better because it is 4wd has reverse a .18 engine in it and in a little while it will have a lot of hop ups. There is already a .21 conversion kit for it so it will be a great truck and i hear a lot about it being a great truck.

hey i just got my mt today and only had enough time to break it in, i noticed that when i turn the inside tires seem to scrape along the ground as if being dragged and it seems really weird. is this because it's a monster truck and meant for dirt or is it that my camber and what-not is really fricked up.

I got a MT pro a week ago. I dont got it no more b/c I sent it back to Duratrax. I was able to break it in. I ran about 6 tanks thru it. The last tank was more like a combination of 2 half tanks over 2 days. After that it would not start no more. When it ran it was very fast. Top speed was great. I dont think mine shifted b/c I never heard a rpm change in the engine. So I tried to adjust the 2 speed w/ the 2 mm allen wrench like it says in the directions. Come to find out after disassembling the whole 2 speed that isn't even the right size! It's 5/64". I wonder if RCCA had the same problem b/c they said in the article they had to adjust their 2 speed.
The manual that come with the truck isn't good at all because it doesn't give directions on how to put the truck together if you ever have to take it apart.
I think Duratrax should consider changing the name of their Stress Tech plastic to Flex Tech. I can easy push the rear wheel inward from the top b/c the rear turnbuckles aren't supported to a sturdy mount.
I must say the anodized aluminum hubs are of great quality and the front hubs turn in the hub carriers on ball bearings. The whole truck uses ball bearings.
The large 1/8 scale shocks are also a strong point to this truck. They are threaded and smooth and look cool too :D .

Overall I think this is a great "Bashing" truck. It is very fast and u get all the hop ups from the box. It also has a 2 speed and good warranty on the Stress Tech parts.

My son just got a Maximum MT Pro and it runs great with the exception of one small problem . When he applies the brakes it quits ? I think the throttle return spring is to strong . What do we do to fix this problem . We have a ST that is doing the same thing . This was money well spent and if I had to buy again I would buy the same two trucks . I also have a Nitro Quake and like it as well . Thanks for any help

i take my statement back its a piece of crap and i hate. first of all today and striped both my spur gears and it wouldn't move and then second my engine takes a long time to start and im even going into the engine. so anyone who wants to buy a mt pro don't because with a race with a piece of crap the crap would win.

Any tips or tricks I should know before I try to fire it up?

first off, right on! second, go to the max st pro forum, the max mt and max st are so similer, that youll learn the same stuff either way, plus that ones more populer. one good tip is to get new tires asap, the stockers dont have very good traction. youll find more information in the max st forum (http://www.radiocontrolzone.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=70689) .

Rellekndak

i had my mt pro for just over a year, the trucks chassis held up nice i didnt have problems with the chassis at all the main problems i ran into was the drive washers kept popen off and those adjustible shocks i wouldnt adjust them to make the truck higher it makes the dogbones at a bad angle to the point if you were to jump and land sideways or turn sharp they would pop right out. other problems the engine vibrates alot so make sure you put a good blob of thread lock on the 4 screws that hold the engine in place other wise you WILL strip one or both gears out.

also their is another problem i ran into with the motor vibrating so much is that the rich/lean adjustment screw tends to move its self after a few runs so you may think it is set right but it will adjust itself.

as far as tires go i never had problems with the stock tires

if your really into the mt pro and have the money ill give you some idears
first of all you should get rid of the motor and get the o.s .15 wich is a direct fit.

get an atomik body their awsome pre trimmed pre painted flames and all kind of cool designs they are very very strong

also get some sand paws this truck really throws sand in 2nd gear.

just to warn you you will be using that warrenty ALOT make full advantage of it

t-maxx bodies work great the only problem is that the wheel wheels dont match as close as a mtpro body would but it still looks good plus it makes the truck look even bigger

im here because people think these are really nice trucks before they buyt them thats the way i was i thought this truck would be awsome but after awile i started sending in parts i thought yea sure things break but they kept on breaking and after a wile when that warrenty was over it got way to expensive for me so i eventually sold it.

lol heres a story

before i bought this truck i watched this video about the tire chains you can make for these so they can drive in the snow better they were bashing this truck around jumping of of banks and doen all crazy stuff

guess what i did i went out and bought me a mt pro
i thought that was really cool and im going to make them also for my truck.

i got that truck never did make those chains and well last winter i hit second gear tried to slid into the driveway but turned to soon launch off my snow bank snapped my body in half did 4-5 cart wheels and perched up onto a tree that had to of been the best crash i ever saw with this truck it was great

the truck is great if your willing to put the money into it if i could have it bck now and i had the money id buy that o.s 15 engine and throw it in thier stop half the problems then

I had mine for about 3 weeks now and it is really nice.

I have broken some parts but it was all my fault

The parts I broke are:
Steering turnbuckle - hit a curb at 30 at 7 in the mourning
Striped Spur - putting the egine back in I missaligned the two
Rear wheel bearings - ran it on hard packed dirt from an old construction site that was brutal to walk on.... also it was 15 degrees outside.

The one way bearing had slipped and I went to take out the starter and pulled it out wrong and the coil came uncoiled and am now working on it.

All the parts are under warrenty so I don't have to pay a thing!:D

I just received my Max MT Pro, Have not had it running yet. I have been just looking it over good. I notices that the back tires are toed in pretty bad." I think any way but I am new to nitro"
If you would run a straight line through the middle of the back tires it would line up with the inside edge of the front wheels.
Is it supposed to be that way? I have tried to figure out how to get them to straighten out but I cannot find anything wrong. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem "if it is one"?
Thanks for all your help!!!

I have a Maximum Mt and it is awesome. I raced my cousin last week (he has a T-Maxx), he beat me on the straight aways but i killed him up the hill. The only problem with the MT is that the pipe it comes with really sucks and I had to buy a new "tuned" pipe. I have recently been bashing around the snow and making a massive snow jump with a landing. I stopped and bought bearings because my truck desperatley needed them. I havent gotten it back together yet because I used some stuff to power our science project. We did a remote controlled Air Boat that works on fluid and pressure to move.

r/c car freak
01-22-2003, 06:48 PM
is the mt reg as bad as everyone says it is? Doesn't it only have a single speed? No bearings ouch that sucks!

The pro come factory with a tuned pipe, bearings, and a 2 speed. Not ta diss you or anything but for the cost are they really that good?

What about beating a tmaxx? If you only have a single speed and the maxx has a 2 how could you beat it?

tigger2
01-22-2003, 08:26 PM
The MT regular is definetley not bad. I didn't buy the pro because i didnt have the money. Yes it does have a single speed. For the cost yes i think its good because you can make more modifications to the MT regular than the MT pro because the MT pro already has most of the stuff. My MT can beat the T-Maxx because i have more low end power up the hills, he has pretty much al out speed. I think that you dont really need 2-speed that badly. 2-speed doesn't mean it is faster it just means that you have the power spread out more (I think).

my problem was that this car overheated constintly even when running rich so i checked all possble thing and it turns out that i had a rather large crack in the crankcase right under the right mount under the manifold(so if u have this check for this because it seems like a weak spot) so i sent the engine to duratrax and they send this new engine and a letter. Basically the letter said i did this on purpose. So i forgot about it and got a terra crusher and this truck is alsome. and the reason the spur gears stripped because i was trying to trash it and my engine mounts came loose and tore the crap out of the tranny. Thats my experience with it

Im sorry but the MT pro was the dumbest decition i ever made for a nitro truck........the truck is fast and all but jesus i had it running good for a week than all of a sudden the universals start slipping and not making the tires spin?***? so i try to titen the two rear wheel nut and the freakin bearing breaks.......why the hell didnt duratrax put PIN TYPE wheel adapters on this damn truck? i could never get the wheels tight anough to let the universals spin them? i told duratrax about this promblem and they ignored me?

But beside that MAJOR problem the truck was fun?

basicly i had to sell it....let someone else deal with that POS???

thanks:) also can anybody do a wheelie you mt pro?

Maxxmtpro
02-14-2003, 08:17 PM
the way i made it wheelie is by a root stiken out of the ground about 2-3 inchs
it knocks the front end up real high and the back tires come off the ground just enough for the wheels to spin real fast and when the back end touches the ground it tends to ride a wheelie pretty far.

Thanks for the info

megaman
03-01-2003, 02:38 PM
the only aluminum arms available are for the max st, youd have to buy st turnbuckles and steering links along with the arms to get everything working. you shouldnt need them anyways because those stock arms are so tough. and they weigh your truck down anyways. here (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSD51&P=K)

is it possible to fit maxx wheels to the mt pro?

are there bigger drive washers avaiable?

megaman
03-23-2003, 01:31 AM
sorry i couldnt find the page that told you how to do it, it was for the stampede but they both use 12mm hex's. what it said is to like, put rubber o-rings over the hex to fill the space between the bigger maxx hex and the smaller 10th scale hex, then super glue it. it sounds weird but understand? ill try to find it, but i cant so far.

how sure are you that you want to do this? youll find more disadvantages than advantages.

NitroNB
03-23-2003, 02:43 PM
what are the disadvantages, would you not get greater overall grip and 'give' from large jumps, and woul cornering not improve?

i have the hitec 645 metal gear servo so i dont see any problems steering.

are there not more wheels and tires to choose from for the maxx?
plus i've never seen premounted tires/wheels for the maximum mt pro

whats the difference if any in offset like?

any other "non standard" mods that could be done.

aluminium or graphite shock towers would be great, especially for that we feeble bit os stress-tech that the rear camber rods connect to, massive amounts of flex!

cheers.

megaman
03-23-2003, 03:02 PM
your pretty bright, but stubborn, thats a good thing though. i dont know of anyother mods to fit maxx tires. but, will the drive line handle it? you may need steel bevels (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAEE2&P=7), and an aluminum idler (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVG88). if you want to eliminate flex, you could get aluminum suspension arms (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXSD50&P=V). the only solution to the shock towers is to make them yourself. youd also want to get any of the rmp stablemaxx rims, they have the most offset and would make it wider and prevent any binding. the only thing im scared of is that it wont be able to bottom out, and that would put ALOT of stress on the shock tower and shock mounts, along with the suspension arms and bulkheads themselves. plus with the extra bite/leverage of the bigger tires, youd be more likely to tear up the drive train (im not so sure though, im barely beginning to exploit the strengths or weaknesses of it myself), so you may need a slipper clutch, unless you already have it. plus the extra rotating mass would hurt acceleration, so youd need to gear down.

im not trying to discourage you from doing this (your on a mission anyways:rolleyes: ) but be prepared for the extra costs. however i would love to see how it looks when completed;) .

NitroNB
03-23-2003, 05:49 PM
yeah i've already got the hardend steel diffs and alu. idler.
with the two speed gearbox gearing shouldn't be too bad, could always adjust the clutch shoes for the engine to kick in in at a higher powerband (0.12 wasp drone 1.4hp)

gonna try making the shock towers/bulkheads out of graphite - or at least make graphite re-enforcing strips that could bolt on. the suspension arms are also really flexy - thats a good thing though as it does take some stress away from big jumps and bumps. for racing though they are too flexible, cant use the alu ones cause there shorter - for the st, so gonna re-enforce the stock ones.

the only thing that i could think of were the axels/dogbones not being thick (strong) enough or long enough (got the steel unis which dont go through the wheel as far as the stock cvs, can no longer use a 'lock' nut).
was thinking of thickening up the part after the joint that goes through the bearings and wheel - possibly making a hybrid from another vehicle that uses the same diameter as the maxx axles or creating a threaded 'sleeve' that would thread onto the axle and give another 1mm to the diameter of the axle.
dont know if you get 5x10 bearings with an inside diameter of 5 mm though, so would need to use drilled out bushes. would take some machining and the thin sleeve may be week, but i'm thinking of doing it.

yes your right i'm on a mission as there's very little after market support for the Duratrax Maximum MT pro - spares are easy enough to get thankfully.
shame because from what i've seen/experienced its perhaps one of the best 2wd trucks - just lacks aftermarket 3rd party hop ups.

luckily i'm studying mechatronics at uni and have access to the machine shop and parts cuboard.

and yes i'm very stubborn as my girlfriend keeps reminding me, thankfully though its just not my intelligence that she finds useful;)

I will have a seriously unique and cool truck once i'm finished - already beats the t-maxxes and savages, totally kicks hpi arse! :)

03-23-2003, 06:54 PM
oh well thats good that you know what you are doing. and im completely incompetant as i wasnt sure what truck you had, and were in the the max mt pro forum. that could help me narrow down my advise. (thats why i said the max st arms). what are you going to do with it? are you going for speed, or are you going to sky it? oh and how does the tranny hold up to that 1.4 hp engine? especially without a slipper. cause i want to get a high end engine (i have a max st pro) and i dont want to be stripping stuff.

NitroNB
03-24-2003, 08:15 AM
just lets say i got the hardend steel diffs through necessity after the engine.

also i have a healthy stock of spur gears - trying to get some made from alloy, but may revert to the single speed with stock steel spur gear.

so apart from the stock steel diffs and plastic spurs everything is ok and so far seems to be.

the truck is emensly fast with the wasp but has had a little drop in intial acceleration since the 0.12 has lower torque at low revs tahn the stock 0.16.
power at higher revs is unbeliveable, wheelies from 1/4 throttle on demand and crazy upright spinning doh-nuts are easily achieved.

the truck is pretty tuff, had raised the suspension to take big jumps but was tumble happy whenever i tried to turn. went through some full speed cartwheels and had a really long one - around 80m into a ditch and only broke the plastic ball end of a rear camber rod. the rear of th body is starting to fray frum all the wheelies too. it has been abused a bit, but then fun is the name of the game here.

when gunning it full throttle the front wheels do understeer quite a bit, gonna try and put some weight farther forward, but that may be because of the stock tyres, hence t-maxx wheels - getting mashers 2000 soon as stop gap.

compared to my friends, hpi rush, nitro mt, ultima, sandmaster, savage and t-maxx its a lot faster and tougher.
only let down/ weak point is taht it could really do with 4wd though - a possible futre project??? ....

yeah i'm getting a ball diff made to act like a LSD.

also fitted the shocks upside down and filled with 40 oil.

changing to sing speed as i think the 2 speed clutch is knackerd, was only using 2nd gear, didnt notice unitl it stipped and 1st started getting used and was phenominal at acc.
rocket!

theres a huge building site that my freinds and brother go to and i was screeming up a 15ft loose earth mound (like a huge table-top jump) and if i backed off halfway up it would soar into the air vertical and come back down like a skater, full throttle and it would clear the top (6-7ft) and land on the other side.

did this a few times and now i need a new body from some somersault landings!

how are you getting a ball diff made? you should probably try to find and fix the problem of the 2-speed before getting a one speed.

i think the set screw is out of adjustment or theres too much loctite everwhere gummning it all up, either that or the 1way bearing has gone/needs cleaned.

my brother has a rustler and the ball diff for that is near indentical to the diff housing of the Maximum's.

also gonna be making some gears at uni out of titanium, or if the technician gets upset about us going though to many tool bits again i'm gonna try and do graphite gears, not sure if they would machine though. we made some steel ones for my mates ultima coz he kept stripping his gears after he got a HB 0.18 and used high nitro (even melted his manifold!)

i've got pro-engineer drawings of the maximum chassis and will be making a new bigger one from grp/carbonfibre layers so that i can mount the new .26 wasp engine (hence wanting titanium gears). ;)

also been looking at the possibilites of belt drive, the go-kart that we made for our creative engineering class uses a belt as do the rc cars, that would eliminate a lot of friction and stripping problems.

why do the trucks use gears and the cars use belts anyway?

4wd is looking more possible with a larger chassis too, as that would allow puting another "rear" gear box (with body mounts) at the front to drive the wheels, just need to figure out how get the drive to the wheels

will try and convince my dad to lend me his video camera so we can shoot some of the cool bashing that were getting up to.

i want to make a similar recreation of the real bigfoot jumping the jumbo jet - gonna see how many cars we can jump the nitros over...

:D

hey nitro, you have the max mt right? can you do me a favor and give the width of the truck with the tires off, from the end of one arm to the other? also, i think that the max st and mt both use the same dogbones (or axles), does it seem like the ones for the st would work on the mt? and vice versa? thanks.

NitroNB

the st arms are shorter. (thats why the alu arms dont fit the mt)
the universals are the same for both trucks, the shiny silver ones have longer threads though, handy for offset wheels or using a second nut as a lock nut - bloody drive washers!
the black ones (shorter) are stronger in my expereince, they also feel marginaly smoother, but are a 'just enough' fit - literally measured to the thread!

a thought accured to me. you know that the hubs on the maximum series have two mounts, an "outer" one and an "inner" one, with a difference of two centimeters on the inside and outside. now, the max mt arms are two centimeters longer than the st, but sence it uses the outside mounts of the hubs(similer to how the bx uses the st arms, but use the outside mount of the hub), to make a total width of 25 centimeters, to the outside edge of the hub*. where as the st, which use the arms that are two centimeters shorter, mount the hubs on the inside, making a total outside width of 25 centimeters. so, if you were to switch the arms between the mt and st, but change the mounting location of the hub, youd have the same width with defferent arms. so you possibly can use the aluminum st arms on the mt, if you were to use the inside mount of the hub to make up for the difference.
i was curious about the width because i want to make my st wider, but i didnt see how the mt was wider until my little epiphany (above). but what i want to do, is get the mt arms, and use the inside hub mount, and get longer turnbuckles (i plan on replacing my turnbuckles anyway) and dogbones. to make a hypotheticle width of 29 centimeters from edge of hub to edge of hub.

*based on estimated values/facts

sorry for the long post, but i was a bit proud of my little epiphany. if im wrong, dont tell me lol. jk, tell me so i know. if this makes no sence, and you need pics, pm me.

i would only use the outer holes and leave the length of the spar of the hub as renforcement against the suspension arm.
it twists enough as it is!

if you hit something hard something something would break more easily as that wee length of the hub gives added strength and support.

to see what i mean...

hold your truck up via the rear body post bar and let it dangle in front of your face, bottom of chassis facing you and pointing down.

now with your free hand give a wheel a shoogle (rhs is clearer) ...

now in a twisting motion...

see how that length rubs against the inside of the supension arm preventing too much movement

... now stand on 1 leg...

...now hop ....

... now bark like a dog.....

I'm running the stock tires and 2.5 wheels and was wondering what other tires are made with this odd inner diameter. I tried 2.2 tires(IMEX road hawgs) and they go on, but don't really fit(extreme sidewall deflection). I want about the same ouside diameter to keep my gearing the same for rock crawling

megaman
05-31-2003, 09:17 PM
i think that the road howgs would be a bit difficult to use on the "oversized" rims because of there low profile. you could probably go with something like masher 2000's and they wont mess up on the sidewall as much. and are super flexible. you could also go with pullers, same description put a different design and are about 1/2" smaller than maxx tires. there are no other tires that use that odd diameter. the cen mt2 tires are also quite big.

I got a couple questions

1)How is the durability/handling of the Mt pro (do you guys break much parts)
2)For racing which would be better Mt pro or St pro (1/10 stadium truck)
3)Do the single speed clutch bells fit over the 2-speed clutch
4)What parts are needed to convert it back to the single speed

Thank you for your time.

hmm,
1. tough, i only break things on my own faults, but i have trouble with the driveline...upgrade if your going to race, steel bevels and aluminum idler (if you dont get the pro).
2. thats a tuffy, if you want to race (like losi/AE/mugen) then your in the wrong place...but if its local, simple stuff....ehhh, id say the st, no, the mt... man, i dont know. sorry. LOL
3.i think so...it should.
4.umm, of the top of my head: topshaft for the slipper, the one speed gear, the brake adaptor, the slipper pads, this weird pin thing (i think). or...buy one off ebay.

i know i didnt help much, but hopefully i got you in the "ballpark of knowledge" lol. i dont know, later. i look into it

Is it possbile to put bigger wheels on the Maximum MT Pro? I am asking because there are no 2.5" tires for this other than the originals. Would it be possible to put tires/rims for a Tmaxx or other 3.0" wheels on the truck? If so, can I just bolt on a set of rims that are for a tmaxx?

Thanks,

Chris

You need 2.2 tires to 'slide' inside the clod rims, which can be secured w/ superglue. Then you drill out the center of the clod rim so you can slide the wheel nut on to the axle. I have done this on my Wild Dagger(with wild dagger stock 2.2 wheels- but any 2.2 wheels should work), on which I used to have MT wheels.

They have the same hex.

BTW-doing the above will make the truck much wider, so minimum sized hex spacers would be prefferable

So is it not possible to use any other wheels that the 2.2" or the 2.5" that came with it? I don't really want to cut out wheels and glue them together.

Chris

Janders

and adapters run about $45
all you have to drill is a pencil sized whole in the middle of the clod wheels(you can see it in the pics)

Can you tell me who makes the Hex adapters for the maximum, or a prt number?

Thanks,

stampede adapters should work
http://www.thundertechracing.com/adapters.htm

or Wild Dagger Adapters

http://www.maximizerproducts.com/Dagger.html

I have never used any of these , nor do I own a MT. Personally I'd go with the homemade adapter..it's just so easy to make

that where i get most of my stuff (even though im in the UK and postage is a killer)

- or i get some stuff from my LMS

daniel

also, most Max ST peeps use the Max St forum - there basicaly the same car, and there a lot more ST's - so its a better populated area (if you look, the post before yours was posted over 5 months ago!!)

i did a search on www.google.com and didn't find anything useful so i guess its tower after all i don't need much anyway just the 1st spur gear front wheel axle engine mounts and throttle brake linkage and some other stuff it comes out to about $28usd
