Sometime back when dirt was new, I remember reading somewhere about the ability to increase the pulse rate on a 27 mhz Galloping Gost transmitter (Mattel) to get away from the flopping rudder of the old system. I've completed a light, 7 grm Bat Bi-plane, with co2 (brown GB-12) using a Fritz Muller no-cal receiver and a BIRD actuator. I would like to increase the pulse rate, and by using a digital to pulse board (cloud 9) attempt to get a smooth rudder, but, another .5 grm. of weight. Am I all wet, has somebody tried this before,is this article, or knowledge available. Or maby there's another method.

Hello Byron,
They were the good old days all right. The most likely person to have that info would be John Worth AKA Cloud 9 Micro R/C. He is listed in the vendor links in the RCMicroflight. There were several articles dealing with this in the old "Grid Leaks" publication that Ace R/C used to publish. I have long since lost my issue dealing with the Mattel, but I believe it was there.

Byron,
The RFFS-100 is essentially a Galloping ghost. The frequency is so high though you never see the pulsing.

I still have a mattel single channel (not working) as well as an Ace single channel, which works, I also have several baby ace single and twins acutators. I never predicted that r/c gear would get so small and I held on to these in hopes of using them again. are they of any use now? or should i just put them away for old times memories?

Hello Sportwin,
If that Ace receiver is a superhet (has a crystal) it is still useful. If it is a superegenative design I would put it away. The pulse controled rudder could be a bunch of fun, especially with clean electric power.

I have a copy of the original schematic for the Ace Pulse Commander TX but have no idea what component to change the pulse rate. Something constantly reverses the polarity from the reciever to get the actuator to move back and forth as there is no centering on the Adams actuator. I have a couple of the surerhet recievers and Adams baby actuators...they weigh a ton. Nostalgic, but of no practical use. If there was a way to modify the Ace tx to drive one of Fritz's micro albins to emit a reversing polarity voltage pulse....well, thats something different. Driving a coil actuator directly from the output transistor can supply quite a bit of power, 3 - 4.5 volts. Really makes those little buggers snap.

Hello Dow,
All of that reverse switching was done at the receiver end with an additional single transistor circuit. the ACE kit was called the AOSK, and it was intended for use with the Adams style actuator. Check your Grid Leaks issues from about mid 1965 and you will find the circuit:-)
