I have a Traxxas Villain IV electric boat. My ESC got so hot that one of the heat sinks melted th solder off, and I fixed it, but noe it runs at like half the speed. Are there any reasons for this? Also - How much faster would my boat go if I put two new 20 or less turn motors in it? It goes like 10 miles per hour before the melting, and like 5 right now.

Sounds like your ESC had a partial meltdown and needs to be sent in for repair.

Or, you could upgrade to a high quality ESC from an aftermarket company like www.rc-hydros.com

I have a traxxas villian that i put twin 17x1 motors in and after i gto it i figured out the i should have gotton a lot lower turn and more winds. I would suggest if you get better motors you should also get (or make) a water cooling kit to go around them.
Check out Jeepinators website, he has a villian that looks perdy darn fast.

Sounds like you cooked the ESC. As somebody else suggested get a controller from Andy at www.rc-hydros.com You will be happy. If you put bigger motor power in the villian remember you will need to water cool them. Also remember you will lose run time.

There might be a more scientific reason for this. You say that you solder melted off when the wires became too hot! well every seems to be telling you that the problem is your ESC however it is possible that the reason is very simple. Each differant solder serves a differant purpose, and some has differant resistance for differant jobs. your problem maybe that your solder has too high of a resistance rating, which means ALOT of heat is being produced from the electrons unable to cross your wires freely. by now yuo may have destroyed yuor ESC from still using it, however if you were to try something, take off the old solder, and use a specialy recomened low resistance solder from a hobby store to re solder your. The high resistance would also explain why your boat is slowing down because the power is not getting to the motor fast enough. Unfortunatly you may have fryed your ESC in the process and should get a new one.
