On the title page, coming in this morning, I saw mention of the Turkey Vulture. Anybody know anything about that, of know of, or how to best contact Bob Hoey, the designer?

I think you can only contact him through Model Airplane News. If you are interested in those, check out the gliding pterosaurs at www.randrmodelaircraft.com

David,

Thanks for the reply. I kind of hoped somebody would supply the M.A.N. e-mail address, or maybe Mr. Hoey's, which I haven't been able to find. I'll keep at it though.

I'm impressed by randr and working along similar lines with a full-scale design that's meant to emulate bird flight. Also, this is many many years ago, I was looking over Mark Smith's shoulder when he made those seagull models.

And way way before that I flew in the Madison Street Armory in Chicago - we're talkin' 1938, 39, 40 - with people about such as Ed Lidgard and Carl Goldberg, and if you know anything about the history of ornithopter models, you know who they were. Two fine fellows. Ed passed away in a nursing home in Georgia just a few weeks ago.

Hello,

I am also very interested in this special glider and would like to know more about how it maintains yaw stability without a vertical fin.

I will be grateful if someone could shed some light on this or guide me to some internet resources for an answer.

Thanks,

Y C Lui

The ornithopter uses it's tail to move up and down as well as contol the turning by moving it side to side. Check out the video on my website for more info.
