View Full Version : Newbie Question
I am new to the touring/on-road scene...
I have an indoor carpet and outdoor oval and on-road course near my house. I would like to participate in as much as I can... If I get a TC3, can I use it on the carpet oval, asphalt oval, and road course? Would springs and tires be all I need to change?
Most guys around here run L3's on the carpet and asphalt oval.... Could I run a TC3?

mac, yes you can run your tc3 on carpet good but it WILL be very hard to beat pan cars, and for the oval it will run good but again it WILL be very hard to beat pan cars unless your a really good driver, the tc3 is an all around great performer, yes the springs and tires will be all you need to change
edit:spelling
have fun!!!!;)

The other thing to keep in mind if it's actual racing and not just practice or playing around then they have classes for different types of cars...pan cars and TCs run in separate classes so you wouldn't have to compete against pan cars as TCs are so much slower with the same class of motor. Check with the tracks and find out what classes they run. If they a TC class then your set with a TC3. If not you might want to consider getting a pan car.

I would get the TC3 because its a very good all around car. When your not at the track it better because it rides higher than an L3 would and its harder for debris to get in the chassis. The L3 is a direct drive car, which means that it has no transmission, so there is nothing between the spur and the ground.

Examples of pan cars are the RC10L3 and RC12L3. Pan cars are flat chassis cars with a straight rear axle that both rear wheels ride on. The cars are direct drive meaning the motor pinion directly drives the spur gear mounted on the rear axle. These cars are 1/3rd to 1/2 the weight of a TC and geared much higher because the weight allows them to. Typicaly a stock pan car turns in track laps about as fast as a TC running a 10T motor.

So when you say the pan cars are geared lower, you mean they are quicker off the line? Do they also have a higher top speed? I was looking into getting an RC10TC3 RTR. But i I want a quicker car should I get a pan car? Does the four wheel drive of the TC3 have any advange?

The TC3 will have major advantages on any track that isn't a smooth surface, such as the street or a parking lot. Pan cars don't perform that well on those surfaces since they are only 2wd.

If i am not mistaken pan cars are only really made for the oval tracks. Turning right wasnt one of the focus points. The TC3 is a great car. My friend had one and it was really nice on the street due to the 4wd.
