I really want to do something with my rc cars, but what is there to do?????????
Im sick of driving them on the street where i dont do anything but watch it go back and forth up and down the street.
I've got a hpi e-rally or an emaxx that i can run, but ive done everything possible with them.

Does anyone else have this problem with there r/c's

Alla
04-27-2002, 04:10 PM
I alwase have that problem in the winter. Seeing as you live in Texas I dont see that as a problem. Do you race your Max? Thats alwase fun.:) Sometimes I do get bored with r/c though, I think it's not so much bordom as wanting to try something diffirent. I dunno, I guess I can't realy help you.

CK9887
04-27-2002, 04:14 PM
No i dont race my maxx, just bash.
I know what you mean though, its not that its really boring its just after being on this bb talking about rc it makes me want to do something with them.

sofast
04-27-2002, 04:20 PM
I do the same thing somtimes..... I got a couple people I know involved, and I drive/race them all the time! It makes it alot more fun when your not the only one with a truck.....

Alla
04-27-2002, 04:20 PM
Thats exactly how I sometimes feel after reading somethings other people write. Reading about exciting stuff that they did either makes you want to go out and try it, or, do something totaly diffirent so that you have something to write about. One time in the winter I just couldn't stop myself from taking my car out and driving it around. That didn't last very long.(snow+electricity=shortcircut & smoke):D

CK9887
04-27-2002, 04:23 PM
yea,
ok, lets sart a list of things to do with your rc.

ummmm

1. drive it down the street.

2.?
3.?
.............

Alla
04-27-2002, 04:35 PM
I know! Put them against each other in a demolution derby and see if some sucker bets $10000 on the hpi rally.:D :D :D

Seriously though, you should try racing your Max. It's a blast

Oh come on!! Your supposted to water proof the radio gear! This winter I took a plastic bag, cut 5 holes in it (4=wheels 1= exhaust) and taped it up nice and tight, and went and has some REAL fun!! ( I also have a baloon of the reciever at all times). Ive only gotten water in a servo 2 times. Even them I just had to take them apart and dry them off.

2. see how high you can jump
3. see how fast you can make it go
4. see how long you can make you maxx wheelie
5. do somthing wierd to your cars.
6. get a friend, and you race the maxx, and your friend races you with your rally. You dont even need to race. just mess around.....
7. see how far you can jump (alway fun)

Just think about it..... there is plenty to do!

CK9887
04-27-2002, 04:44 PM
yea, it will be a lot of fun after i move because im building a track, the only thing is im kinda afraid to jump it cause one time when i did jump it i broke 2 rear skids and a bulkhead in about 10 minutes. I need aluminum!!!!

Alla
04-27-2002, 04:46 PM
You said exhaust, that means it's a nitro. It's alot harder to waterproof an electric vehicle. Plus I'm so lazy.

CK9887
04-27-2002, 04:47 PM
yea i could jump it, but i dont have a jump or any wood to make one. !!!!!!!!!Im afraid to jump my maxx cause i cant jump it without breaking skidplates

Alla
04-27-2002, 04:49 PM
Invest in some aluminum.;)

CK9887
04-27-2002, 04:50 PM
Im going to look for stuff to make a jump with.

Whats a good jump that will make it go far but not land hard?
long with no lip on it?

CK9887
04-27-2002, 04:51 PM
aluminum wont break will it?

Alla
04-27-2002, 04:56 PM
Not unless you go off like a 15 foot cliff. The worst thing that I have had happen to an aluminum part is it bent a little, in which case I just straighten it out.

Dude..... go RC CAR Bowling !!!

Use pop cans as the pins....

RC car bowling huh? I'll have to try that sometime.

Alla

As for a jump, I just bought one of these for $10.
There adjustible too...

No lip. Ive always had good luck with just a big piece of plywood (about 3x5) and proping it up to about id say 2ft or so. If you want to go higher, just put more stuff under it to make the ramp taller.... (just make sure its sturdy, you dont want the ramp to collapse lol).

Yes, i was talking about nitro...... Hard? Man your too lazy!!:D j/k
Its not that much harder. Put the reciever in a baloon. Seal it. Put your esc in a balloon, and seal it. then for the servos, ive seen a couple different ways. Ive seent them put in balloons or small plastic bags.....hehe I just completely covered my car with the bag and went!:D

CK9887
04-27-2002, 05:02 PM
hey thats a good idea,
thanks man, i will try that
one problem, im here by myself and to set up like 10 cans after they all go probably 30ft it would take a while.

But thats a good idea, im going to try it when i get enough cans cause im sick of sitting around.
do you set up the cans like bowling pins or in a line

More ideas
its making me think about things to do.

Something with weights and my maxx is coming to my head.

sofast
04-27-2002, 05:06 PM
AEAddict, Im going to have to do that!! Thanks man:D

Alla, how do you like that ramp? I was looking at one of those..
Also, at some toy stores they sell these big plastic ramps for skateboards (about 3x3 id think) and those would be Perfect!

Alla
04-27-2002, 05:07 PM
Did I say lazy? I meant energy conservant.:D No, I just accidently drove the truck into this big snow bank and it collapsed right on it. By the time I dug it up it was totaly soaked.

sofast
04-27-2002, 05:08 PM
Hey, try to pull yourself with your maxx on say a skateboard or roller blades!! (just dont overheat anything).........

Alla
04-27-2002, 05:11 PM
The ramp is realy good. It can be kinda slipery for trucks but I just fixed that by putting on a few long strips of duct tape on it. Now it's awsome. I love how you can adjust it!

CK9887
04-27-2002, 05:17 PM
my dad took pictures of me getting pulled on my skateboard.
I only weigh about 100pds though cause im small and 14 years old. We sent the picture in RCCA but i guess it didnt make it.
Im going to do it with skates when my batterys get carged.

I heard the jump just moves when you try to jump it, is that what happens? If not im going to get one.
Do the cars jump nice off of it?

sofast
04-27-2002, 05:20 PM
What kind of distance and air do you get with it?? I like to fly HIGH and FAR!! LOL

Alla
04-27-2002, 05:29 PM
The jump moves slightly if you set it up on smooth surfices like cement and concreete, but on gravel, asphault, dirt, and packed sand its pretty stable. As for air, on the middle setting it goes pretty far and high. The lower you set it the bigger the distance gets and the smaller the air time(and vice versa). I'd say its a good deal.

Alla

Heres something I would do if I had a Maxx

step 1) cover it with dirt (and other things)

step 2) take it to the mall

step 3) drive it straight into the Victorias Secret department

step 4) get a goooood lawyer

sofast
04-27-2002, 06:03 PM
Now why would you want to do that?? eheh Ive driven my legend in a mall before! I was in an rc car show and they said "just dont start up those enginges" ( we had alot of nitro's with us). So I though.... They didnt say anything about the electrics huh lol.... Those foam tires got VERY good traction!!:D

sofast
04-27-2002, 06:04 PM
Take a mini-z.... Mount a one of those very small camera's to the top ( I think you know were this is going lol) and drive into the dressing room..... You know what im talkin about LOL:p

Alla
04-27-2002, 06:08 PM
:D :D :D

CK9887
04-27-2002, 06:08 PM
i have a mini-z but it needs a esc repair

Alla
04-27-2002, 06:08 PM
You know, I have one of those little cameras...

CK9887
04-27-2002, 06:10 PM
my batterys are almost done.
could my maxx pull more if the tires were turned around?

sofast
04-27-2002, 06:10 PM
:p :D hmm..... lol

Alla
04-27-2002, 06:11 PM
Yeah, those micro esc cost alot to buy/fix. The Mini-Z is a pretty good car though, I've driven one before and I realy liked it.

sofast
04-27-2002, 06:13 PM
Id leave them normall. You want alot of traction, and this will let them get alot of "bite". I think if you turned them around, It'd loose to much traction......

CK9887
04-27-2002, 06:13 PM
Theres a place that repairs the esc for 30$ and it makes it twice as fast, so im going to do that and everything will be working flawless cause they guarantee to fix all problems for 30$,
then im going to sell it probably.

Alla
04-27-2002, 06:14 PM
Darn it! How come I'm alwase behind you guys by one post?

I don't know about the tires though, it could help, but it could damage the tires. Why don't you try it. :D

CK9887
04-27-2002, 06:17 PM
I would if it was a t-maxx cause i only have one set of batts. that i use and pulling me will eat them up in like 5 min. so i got to get to the point of pulling me.

sofast
04-27-2002, 06:20 PM
Just go ahead and leave them normall...... If it doesnt work, youll know almost instantly, and you can shut it off and turn them around........

Alla
04-27-2002, 06:22 PM
What kind of battery conectors do you use on your Maxx?

CK9887
04-27-2002, 06:37 PM
i use tamiya connectors cause if you use deans then it voids the esc warranty, and i fried my esc once so i dont want to fry it again and it not be warrantied.

I found a better strap to use. I got it off my camera.

Madmann135
04-27-2002, 06:44 PM
I hardly get board with my nitro monster truck. Why because
when I am driving it and I get board of driving it on the streets I somply go to one of the lots that are covered in woodchips and drive like crazy.

If you have a off-road find some of the roughest terrain possible and have fun.

If you have a on-road...race cars in the street and/or go to the track and race the other on-roaders

Alla
04-27-2002, 06:44 PM
I was gonna say that if u use deans you waste less power on resistance but if you already had problems with the esc then its better to be on the safe side and just leave it alone.

Camera strap huh? Why not use the mouse from your computer?

Alla
04-27-2002, 06:56 PM
As much as I enjoyed this conversation, I found some better people to talk to. Nah, just kiddin. My mom has to use the computer, and after all, she give me money! So I guess this is goodby... :( :( :( :(

Hope we can talk again some day,

Heres the pics. from earlier. It doesnt look like it but my emaxx pulled me as fast as i wanted to go.
It was funny, It was pulling me and i was going really fast, so i let off the throttle on my maxx, and then i went flying by it on my skates and i yanked the emaxx and it flipped a few times.

CK9887

Hey thats pretty cool. I came back here just too see weather the pulling thing worked. Did the thing with the tires work out?

CK9887
04-28-2002, 12:37 AM
yea it actually had a lot of traction with the tires on straight.

Tommorow ill put weigths on a skateboard and see how much it will pull. I dont know if i have enough weights to where it wouldnt pull it.

CK9887
04-28-2002, 12:39 AM
oh yea, i forgot to mention that the strap was hooked up to my belt so i just held the controller.

sofast
04-28-2002, 10:24 AM
Look's like alot of fun!! I only wish my nitro pede would pull me:(
*uuhgg, I need a maxx* But I dont know if it could pull me. I wiegh just a "little" more than you lol....... Oh, well... I guess Ill just have to get an 1/4 scale!:p

04-28-2002, 11:22 AM
Another thing to do is take cones or soda cans and use them as corner markers and make your own racetrack.

sofast
04-28-2002, 11:54 AM
OMG!!! I cant believe I forgot about my 1/8 scale!!! I could pull my self with that if I put some mp tires/wheels on it lol!!!

Alla
04-28-2002, 12:30 PM
Hey CK9887, if you like doing that type of stuff with your truck(you know seeing how much it can pull and for how long), maybe you should enter a truck pulling contest instead of racing like I suggested earlier. Just a suggestion.;)

CK9887
04-28-2002, 01:15 PM
yea i would like to do that but my local track doesnt have a class for that, and i have never seen an emaxx at my track, just tmaxx's

Im going to do it my self though

04-28-2002, 01:32 PM
Put some thicker shock oil and hardersprings in your maxx and you wont land so hard, so then you can jump with out breaking the truck.

Do something like just over the hod of your parents cars....

CK9887
04-28-2002, 01:44 PM
cant i just put the c-clamps on it to make it stiffer
?

CK9887
04-28-2002, 02:28 PM
im about to go pull some weights with my e-maxx, and i can make a jump now because i went out to the lot where there building my house and i took some wood.

Alla
04-28-2002, 02:40 PM
You're not gonna try and jump the truck with weights on it are you? Cause I wouldn't.

CK9887
04-28-2002, 02:45 PM
no, i was gonna put the weights on a skateboard and pull it.
I was just saying i have the materials for a jump now.

I cant find my skateboard, so im going to jump it.

pics will be here in 20 minutes. I cant get the pics of it on the jump thought cause im here by myself and cant take the pic. and drive. Ill get still shots.

CK9887
04-28-2002, 03:09 PM
my longest jump was 13 feet. I didnt have much room to land and if i would of jumped further then i would have been into a flower bed. I didnt have much room to get up speed either.
heres the jump i used

CK9887
04-28-2002, 03:10 PM
one more

Alla
04-28-2002, 03:17 PM
I think 13 feet is good considering the room you had to get up to speed. Plus it proubably doesn't go as fast on grass as say on asphault or packed sand/dirt.

CK9887
04-28-2002, 03:23 PM
yea, i need to do it in the street when i get some aluminum skids. Or maybe set the jump in the street where its angled so ill land in the grass

Here is a pic of one of my ramps I use for my maxx(sorry it's not very good). It's a steep ramp but it is very strong and works well. I havn't broken anything with my T-Maxx on it.
http://www.printroom.com/_vti_bin/ViewImage.dll?userid=falcon247&album_id=47955&image_id=12&courtesy=1

If youre bored try racing or getting a friend into the hobby. Or let a friend borrow one of your other cars. Chase dogs, cats, ducks, squirrels, whatever you've got. Take your maxx in the sand, rocks, steep hills, stairs, ect.

Don't get aluminum skids(at least not front) because they break or bend if you hit something hard. Buy titanium skids, like hardcore's or rockhoundz. They do cost more money but you will only have to buy them once.

Yeah, well, I'm sure anything will break if you hit something hard enough. Like maybe purposly drill a curb head on at full speed. However I never had an aluminum part break before. If it does bend a little after an accident you can straighten it out, I did.

Yeah, most aluminum parts are good I just don't like front skids to be aluminum.

That pulling thing is funny... I used my stock E-maxx this weekend to pull the kids around in a big wagon... I just tied a skipping rope on the rear skid, slowly accelerated and whipped them around....LOL... We all had quite a blast.....

If you're looking for more traction, what I did was 'cut' the treads with diagonal cutters by just making two slits into each 'tread'.

This basically makes each 'long' tread on the tire turn into 3 smaller 'blocks' of rubber. It really increases traction, cornering and they still 'wear' like the originals... (will last forever...LOL...

sees ya...

So, what kinds of things do you do with your r/c when you go out in your front yard.

this may sound stupid, but it can be fun when you are boared. I will go up into my bonus room and put obsticles in the way of the truck and see what it can climb over. i mainly go slow, b/c my mom would kill me if i hit a wall. it is cool to watch the suspension working. i also make videos with friends of my cars

rcnitropro1
05-07-2002, 05:35 AM
normally i would race my friend, but he drives like crap. i had just finished painting a body for my car and said "hey, let's race!" we started with a drag race and drove over my car. i got a kyosho rally car and he was driving an evader. then when we went to wendy's down the raod to do some laps around the lamp posts, he collided with my car head on and ripped the mesh i put on the front for the grills and the headlights that i just put in are dead too now. anyone wanna race me in the meadville, pa area?

by the way, all that happened last night, so i'm still a little irritated.

you could also modify your car if you want to make it unique.

R/Cbum4life
05-09-2002, 03:28 PM
if you all are really that bored get a huge ramp go to a steep ling hill put the ramp half way down it and get on the gas. See who can jump the farthest and not break any parts! that will always entertain you or if you want to be crazy have someone try to catch your car in the air.

Go here to see the stuff I did with my stock tl01. :) Nothing was waterproofed. Got snow over almost every part of the car.
http://thercfinatic11203.tripod.com/BertramL/id10.html
Did some other stuff with it, like drive in in the dirt, grass, jump it, all in stock form. :D This is a tamiya car, so i dont suggest you try it other cars like a tc3, or an hpi sedan, unless you make it into a rally car. jmo

I've just got a very entertaining idea! If you can find an old 6 inch or so action figure that you don't want any more you can find many fun things to do it. Try setting it the back of your e maxx and giving him the no seat belt acceleration test.:D I've also found it interesting to tie a string to one of thier legs and a golf ball on the other end of the string and having a good whack. The one I tried this with always had his leg dislocated. You could try this with one of your cars too. (sorry if I've offended anyone with my slightly twisted sence of fun)

lol well one thing you could do is make it into a battle bot!!:D
me and my friends converted a 2wd Kyosho into a battle bot for a class we had in Gr.10 called Manufacturing Technology... it was pretty cool, we had CNC machines, torches saws, and all the works! our tires were alos crazy! we put chains on them so they would sparkup the floor depending on what type of surface we drove on... but it was a B#$|-| to handle.
we wooped every body during the Tournement

Cool! I always wanted to do something kinda like that if I got a cheap offroad vehicle that I didn't need, but I've been having money problems lately so... Thats pretty cool. If you want, can you give some more info on it?

well since this was a class assignment/project, basicly we bought NOTHING :D ... the old 2wd car was one that i nevever used, i had a coulple of spare servo's and a cheap mechanical speedcontroer, and just used my own radio & reciver, as well as an old paradox 27turn motor. the blue plexy glass was supplied in the class awell as the hinges and screws. The black blades were found in a trash can as a huge sheet of metal lol

A good tip if you are on a budget is just took go "garbage picking" hehehe;) , look for junk that you may think can be use full i.e Metal, alluminum and stuff like that.

you are also going to need some nice power tools :p
i think a hacksaw, drill, and the basic tools you have for your r/c car will be fine
from what i can remember we used a CNC machine, bandsaw, stationary drill press, metal lathe, angle grinder, and a badsaw all huge factory tools that i doubt some one would have at home.

a good idea you could use, although this is eatreamly dangorus :p
is to add a Cordless Beautane Soldering iron/ torch on to the front bumper of you car abd start melting things

the only problem that i can see you running into is having anybody wanting to compete with you:p

IF you are bored you can always mount a metal spike and go people hunting.
