Hey i am new at micro. I have been wanting to build a little airplane that i could fly in a school gym or something like it. I have been debating on whether to buy a kit or to just try and make one all by my self. How hard is it to build a little airplane that flyes slow enough to handle? Are there any tricks to doing this? Oh yea has anyone ever tried using a servo motor for an airplane motor? Thanks alot

Hi rcairplane4life,
Let's take the last question first. I have tried working with a variety of servo motors for propulsion. The common problem is that they are wound for a higher voltage and lower currents, and many overheat when you try to put that much power through them.
One of the neatest ways to get into flying in a gym is to purchase one of the RFFS-100 systems and build the airplane that is on the free full size plan. Called the Skeeter, it is all sheet balsa, and plenty tough, yet it will still be easy to handle in a standard gym.

Hmmm well that sounds like an alright deal. I really wanted to start out by building one from scratch but I guess that would work. Ok also i want to know, for a 25 inch wing span airplane, what should the fuselage length be? I was thinking about 18 inches. sound good?
Thanks

Hi,
It is pretty normal for the fuselage to be 3/4 the lingth of the wing. 18" ought to work fine.
