Please email me at KennyVIP@msn.com

I really want an HPI NITRO RS4 MINI.
I would buy a Rolling chassis or an RTR NITRO MINI.
I also have an HPI NITRO MT with Lots of HOP-UP's that I might trade.

I just got my Nitro Mini on Ebay(for you guys who are lost),
and I want to know if HPI made a carbon fiber top deck for
the mini. I could have sworn I saw one. My LHS doesn't
know either(they sold very few nitro minis). Can someone in the know tell me if I am mistaken? you can email at
jose.reyes67@verizon.net

Don't worry about emailing people, Just today I found the holy grail of R/C, the RARE part. Although I had to spend almost three hours in traffic (I live in NYC)to get it.

COOL MAN!!! I'm glad to see minis are still floating around. I wish I had a camera to show off my own mini. But, R/C is really blowing a major hole in my pocket. No money, no camera, no pics. Although, I have NO problem spending for my MINI!!!:D

this guy hasnt been run for a while. I nearly totaled it a year ago so have slowly been tracking down after market parts to replace the ones i killed. It does run. Ran it a few weeks ago, and teh 2speed w/ the 12r SS motor twisted the dog bones like wet noodles. So...... For my birthday i told the wify to buy me mini parts. SO by then it should have full carbon, CVDs and the MIP 360 stinger exhaust

AKIRA 139

Good luck trying to get your hands on the carbon fiber upper deck.
The CVD's are easy to find, Ebay (of course) has them, the stinger too (you just have to keep checking EVERYDAY; man, it got boring). BTW you've got a great wife if she hooks you up for your B-day!!!

here she is, I wanted the super nitro rear tower because its longer. I think it will offer more support. Ill have to make some body mounts but that no biggie.

what mods do you have done? I am running the 12r SS withthe HD 2speed and man this thing eat up dog bones with the stock exhaust. Only real thing i have left to blow are belts, but i am sure once its all running those will go next.

i am still in search of a god damn chassis.

AKIRA 139

I also run the 12r ss, and your right about the power this BEAST puts out, I'll be honest and tell you that I can't handle it. Its got graphite upper deck, graphite y-brace, 2 speed, and the super chassis. I would have liked to put on ano'ed aluminum, but it makes the car too heavy, and the thought of scratching it put me off to it. Steering is twitchy because I put in a KO digital high speed servo (need to dial out some speed). I also modded the fuel tank with an exhaust nipple to get a right angle (I hated when the tubing used to rub against the body). Made a larger hole in the (disk?) that is in the can exhaust (to make the exhust more free flowing, still good back pressure). Glued the 5 cell pack to the upper deck(this thing's got LOW CG). So basically, I've got a beautiful, over-powered SHELF QUEEN. Lol

SUPER NITRO SHOCK TOWERS!?
gotta try that.

Hey <j!nx>, I just sent an Email to the guy who owns the shop that I got my chassis from. When I got my chassis, he said he was closing out of the item. So I'm hoping that he didn't sell me the last one he had, It looks like he has really small shop, and can't move discontinued items (if not for EBay) out of the store.
I'll keep you updated.

AHHHHHHHHH, I just(finally) got my nitro mini! MY LHS had one in the back stock room:eek: just sittin there! I've always wanted one but could never find them, no matter where I looked.

That brings me to my question, being hard to find the kit itself, how hard is it for you'll to find replacment parts for the mini (belts, arms, etc.)?? Does it share alot of the parts from the RS4 beltcar?? Anyone have anything custom or know of where to get custom parts made?

I am almost have tempted to built the kit (the best part of R/C, BTW) and sit it on a display shelf:rolleyes:

SHOW SOME PICS!!!!:D

what all does it have.. bearings, 2 speed, tamiya threaded aluminum dampners, cf radio tray/ y brace/ rear shock tower, os 15cv race engine...
needs: side brace and tensioner, front tensioner, sway bars, jr fm receiver to go with my jr xr3i radio  so 100$ more will get a fully hopped up nitro mini... not bad for 250$ inital investment.... at least the needed items are still mass produced for a rs4-2..

this is my 2nd one.. i had another i sold over the summer on ebay due to needign $ for the 2nd savage i got and wanted to hop up.. BUT this one is much cleaner with much much more upgrades than it had..

it has a still just broken in os 15 cv-x on it, but i got all kinds of other goodies liek the 12 cv with odonnal head, starter box, low cg motor mounts, small diameter flywheel (installed on the 15 at the moment) 360 MIP header, MIP clutch, and lots of spare parts.. the most unique thing is the VW golf/rabbit body that someone in england is reproducing.. i ordered alot fo them well 5.. but the bad thing is i need to sell this.. for as much as i love it and for how it has every hop up i know of besides CVDs, side belt tensioner/brace and for as scratch free it is it hurts to think of selling it..

everything but orange rabbit body in photos included for 500 shipped.. it has a new uncut one included though..

I just got one of these. Can anyone tell me what parts are interchangeable with the regular RS4?

PCC
01-05-2005, 07:57 PM
There are quite a few "regular" RS4s.

The Nitro Mini is closest to the NRS4, not NRS4-2, not RS4 Sport2, etc.

Compared to the NRS4, the Nitro Mini has everything the same except the chassis, upper deck, suspension arms, dogbones, and a few minor parts.

The wheelbase is listed as 225. Are there any other cars out there with this wheelbase that I could try to get bodies to fit the mini?

Hey man-

I'm a long time Nitro Mini owner and the only bodies that I knew of for it were the ones that HIP offered, Civic, Polo, Golf, etc... Where did you get the Skyline at??

ALSO, can someone give me some tips on what I need to do in order to get the steering tightened back up. This car is a BLAST to drive but my steering is soooo worn out that I really have to fight the car to keep it going straight.

Thanks guys and I'm stoked there are other Nitro Mini owners out there.

Take the steering system apart, replace or pinch any worn ball-cups so that they are tight again, replace the Z-link, and, if you haven't already done so, replace the plastic bushings in the right side (as you face the front of the car) steering linkage thingy. It's the one hanging off the upper deck that the Z-link attaches to. Also, try replacing the spring in the servo saver or double-up on the springs for stiffer steering action. Check for play in the steering knuckles as well as the wheel axles. Make sure the suspension arms, front and rear, don't have a lot of slop in them, too.

I got mine at www((((dot)))speedtechrc(((dot)))com/store/ebproduct.asp?catmainid=412, do keep in mine that they are a lil wider than the regular 165mm HPI bodies.....they are meant for using regular 1/10 touring wheels anyway. so i guess a +3 off-set wheel should work fine (havent tried mine yet)

about the steering problem, instead of using the wire thing to connect the two bellcranks.....i would just use two ball studs and a tie rod....i think that way it will be more stable, just my thought...good luck :)

Has anyone tried putting a .21 on a rs4 mini?

PCC
03-07-2005, 09:59 PM
Are you crazy? I ran a ported .15 CV Hyper in mines and it was uncontrollable. I have the NMT wide suspension on my car and it does not flip over because of it. If it wasn't for that the thing would roll over at the hint of trying to turn.

I've had a Nitro Mini for some time now and it's held up well, tough little car. It's mainly stock aside from a MIP stinger pipe, HPI hop up springs and sway bars.

There appears to be a very small hairline crack on the front upper shock mount, was there an aluminum version of this part ever available? If not aluminum, then something else stronger?

PCC
03-24-2005, 12:15 AM
I think Powerline made one out of aluminum. I can probably fab one out of 4mm thick 7075 but I have too many projects right now to be thinking of making something like this.

Sorry for waking up this thread, but i've just bought a Nitro RS4 Mini. :D

I know i paid well WELL over the odds, but what do people generally think of these cars?

I really wanted it, since it's the only one i could find on eBay at the time, and i'm from the UK.

Can someone please list all the hop ups available if you know of them.

Thanks in advance.

From HPI:
Super chassis, graphite upper deck, graphite shock towers, two-speed, fiber disk brake, aluminum side brace, CVDs, ball diffs, one-way front diff, aluminum hex hubs, racing clutch, composite graphite arms (I'm not positive these ever came out). There's probably a few mods that I missed.

From Wolfpack Radicals:
two-shoe two-speed.

I can't remember what else is out there but there are lots more.

hehe, thanks.

I wonder if many of those are actually available though?

Does anyone know how old the Mini RS4 Nitro is anyway? I think they have TWO versions of the mini nitro, not sure though.

I've just bought a Sanwa Gemini II for it. Also have a Novak XXL included. Will most probably be using the servo's the previous person has installed.

Has anyone actually got a mini nitro in here? And do you use it much? How hard is it to find/get/update/upgrade parts?

Most of the parts PCC mentioned are still available. except: Super chassis, CVD's...MIP used to make an upgraded exhaust pipe and CVD's for it, but they are both discontinued..... :( if you really want the pipe, there is one on ebay now....

I think the NRS4 mini came out at around 98-99?? I think there were two versions.....but the only difference between the two was the later version had a .15FE engine and the earlier one came with a .12E....

kapur85

Hey PCC, have PM'ed yourself, kindly check it.

On the same subject, is the Graphite Upper Deck the same as the Graphite Chassis?

I'd like every single hop up, but will start with the chassis, so have been looking for a carbon fibre or upgraded chassis.

Just posting to update people who have posted in this thread:-

Had received my car the other day. Was filthy as hell, so got down to work the same night (3hours of dismantling), and washed every single part properly. Car looks so much nicer now, appears new from above, shame about all the scratches under the chassis.

Well, i haven't raced the car today either, so the tx is on charge now, and will be trying that 2morra, and will post again.

To all the people who do have hop-ups available, kindly do PM myself, as i'm genuinely interested.

Will post photos of my car soon.

I've also got matching servo's (Sanwa 102's), so the car looks tip top. :)

P.S. - The car comes with a Prafa engine. Has anyone heard of these? I asked at the hobby shop, but he wasn't aware of such a make. :o

nice!! another new nitro mini owner! well, badnews and good news for ya....bad news is: finding a counter sunk chassis is almost impossible, especially the nice HPI one, the ONLY one i have seen is from powerline racing (which is also the one i bought on ebay for about $30)

good news is the carbon upper deck from HPI is still available, so is the HD 2speed (part# 72516, Same as the Nitro RS4 one), about the bearings, you can easily match up with loose bearings or just buy the kit from duratrax (most hobby shops can still easily order these parts for u, just tell them to search for you)... check out my car on the earlier posts, i have most of the hop-ups on mine. anyway, happy parts hunting and good luck... :D

Well..

Bad news. I was playing with the car, and it was smoking wayyyy too much.

Anyhow, i've managed to burn out something. It's one of those round plastic black clogs, which is towards to near edge of the car, and it's the biggest one which doesn't have the belt.

What is this part?

I'm going to be taking the car to my hobby store for them to fix up themselves, and they'll charge me this service, to check it over and check everything is working and what not.

haha, thats what i was gonna do. i was going to JB weld two stock 2mm chassis (should still be available from HPIracing . com) together and use a countersunk bit to bevel the buttom end of the screw holes out. just when i was about to do it, i saw the 3mm chassis on ebay. hehehe :p

I've realised that it's the Spur Gear which has been stripped on my car, so am looking for a replacement one.

Have searched eBay, but can't find the specific one. So, i'm going to try and get the two speed version from my hobby centre (ask them to order it in).

Would anyone know whats the difference between a normal Spur Gear 44T and a carbon graphite version? Will the carbon graphite version be any stronger/less prone to damage?

On a side note:- What has caused my spur gear to strip? All comments/idea/help is appreciated, and thanks in advance. :)

your gear mesh was probably a little too tight, or too loose..i would stick with the single speed for now , its less complicated and much easier to understand..

i really miss my car looking at all these photos now.

If i remember correctly, i think the car was pre-fitted with a 2 speed spur gear (EDIT: oops, looking at the above photos, mine is a single speed). Anyhow, is their any stronger or universal gear i can use?

Also, my engine was smoking like hell.

Impulse, you've been very very helpful.

Thankyou very much. :)

Good News, my car is back on the road.

Thanks to all who have contributed.

The spur gear cost about £5.55 or something like that, and i got an adaptor to fit my K&N filter too.

P.S. - Have adjusted the needle, the person at the shop told me it was running way tooo lean, and thats what caused it to over-heat. So, i've turned it about half way anti clock-wise (richen it), and it's running much cooler, not as much smoke as their was before.

Another thing i've noticed is that theirs loads and loads of fuel or something leaking from around the engine area, and i'm finding it hard to find out wheres the source. Is their anyhow it could leak from behind the pullstart, because looking initially, it appears to be coming from their. The piping is all brand new, and has no tears or rips.. anyone got any idea???

Also, if people could please write down part numbers to upgraded parts for my car, since the shop can only order in by part numbers, and manufacturers.

I'm particularly interested in that purple GPM chassis, so if the person who pasted those links could kindly let me know if he has a part number for them.

That'll be very much appreciated.

P.S. - I found a list of ALL GPM parts made for the HPI Mini Nitro RS4, but can't find the chassis. Bit strange.

I have had a slew of offers via PM. I am willing to part out ALL of the aftermarket parts off the car(i have everything to put it back to stock). The GPM arms(front and rear) and the GPM chassis have never left my living room. The car has not even been fueled up sence they where installed.

Lets see here is a full list of mods on the car.

12R SS motor, only has 8 tanks threw it including break in
15FE with purple head only had break in tanks on it

Robinson Racing purple light weight fly wheel
Robinson Racing aluminum racing pullies

GPM air filter
GPM front aluminum arms
GPM rear aluminum arms
GPM bottom chassis

HPI belt tensioner
HPI typeSS fuel tank
HPI typeSS shocks
HPI ballbearing kit
HPI carbon Y brace
HPI carbon front shock tower
HPI carbon rear shock tower
HPI heavy duty 2 speed tranny
HPI super nitro side belt brace

Keep an eye on ebay, right now there is a nitro mini super chassis, rims and tires and some other things. Most of the rs4 parts fit the mini except a arms,c hubs, universals, rims and tires, and most header and pipes wont fit. Also check out tower hobbies and ehobbies.

im thinking about getting one of these. I was looking into the xray nt18, but the motor is tiny, and i think I could fit a 12ss into the rs4. any other motors that fit?

ImpulseGTP

any small block with a side exhaust port should fit into the mini rs4. if you want something more powerfl with a rear exhaust port(like the os 18 tz), you will need a special pipe..

...just chiming in. :) you will see I posted here a few years ago, over 4+ years (page 1)

well, I still have my rs4 nitro mini, built, never ran, sitting on a shelf. (shelf queen, not for sale...dont ask)

and over the years, I ve aquired a few parts, to make another mini out of my old rs4. i got an extra chassis, arms, etc. I just need the steering assembly and the upper deck.

anyone know of a place still selling parts? looking for extra belts (spares) and spur gears. hoping maybe I will run this one, thanks. :D
