I just purchased and assembled my first electric R/C boat – a Kyosho BlueStreak. I took it to the lake for the first time this past weekend and was a little disappointed at the speed abilities of it. I NEED MORE SPEED!!!

Keeping my cheapo BlueStreak - how can I get more speed? I would like to replace the stock motor with a faster motor (but must be over 15T for work with my Novak Rooster ESC), as well to upgrading any other parts that will lead to an increase in speed.

Being new to boating, I just don't know what good choices are out there for faster motors. What would you guys recommend for a faster motor/pinion combination? I read an review of the Blue Streak that recommended a Trinity Speed Gems 2 Ruby (16T Triple) - any thoughts on that? Would a upgraded prop help (and what is the difference between 2 blade and 3 blade propellers)? I noticed I could get Control Tabs to help the handling - what are those about also. I plan to get a stronger battery pack - but any and all other advise you can give me as a boating newbie would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
fish

2 words..

JET PACK!

If you need speed, its the only way to go..

but seriously - almost any aftermarket other than a 540 or 05 motor will be faster than what you have (which is probably one of those 2). Keep in mind that the more power the motor has, the less battery life you will have. those 15 minute run times will be drastically dropped to under 10. But the speed will be very noticable.

The best speed improvements you can do are going to be motor, battery and prop.

For the motor good quality modified types like mentioned previously are good candidates. Be aware though the battery life will be greatly reduced and you will likely have to add water cooling for them to last.

As for batteries, larger capacities (2000ma cells vs. 1500ma cells) will not get you more speed, more cells will get you a bit more speed. (7 or 8 cells vs. 6 cells)

The correct prop can make all the difference in the world. Something like an Octura X437 would a good starting point. If you do not know how to sharpen and balance the prop be sure to buy one that is already done. An out of balance prop WILL destroy your driveline. Avoid plastic props if you can. Although for sport running they are usually ok.

The short of it is you have two choices. Long run time or speed. There is not inbetween.

Welcome to the world of Fast Electrics!

After the Kyosho can no longer satiate your need for speed you will find there are several top quality vendors of very fast electric boats about and a large and growing number of fast electric racers around as well.

I think I have a solution for your need for electric Speed. "Graupner" Its a German company. Youve already built a 540 class boat, and Graupner boats are Awesome I have 6 myself and each has outstanding speed and wasnt to hard to build. Do you have any idea what yuo might be looking for in a boat, because I have done extensive "GRAUPNER RESEARCH (NERD!) I have located many sites besides the American Hobby-lobby.com that sell FAST Graupner boats. Any idea yuo like, id be happy to match you up with a great boat
