Kind of doubt you can use a car radio. slowflyers need really small radio gear.I like the gws flight packs. they come with a receiver, a speed control, two servos and a battery. As for making a plane it would probably be better to get an ARF (almost ready to fly) because while learning you'll probably bang it up alot. save building your own until you've got flying down. A good plane to learn on is the gws tiger moth. it comes with a motor, and can also take a beating pretty well (I saw one loose both wings on one side to a basket ball goal and was relaunches the same night using just tape and 5 min epoxy)

NMT Racer Boy,
Take a look at Al's Canned Heat R/C Page to learn how to use a cheap r/c car transmitter and receiver to make an indoor slowflyer.

Good luck :)

You might want to look at this. I made one, its cheap and fun. It could be modified with a larger span, and deeper chord to fly slower.

Look at E-Zone Magazine . com and search under micro racer. Obviously an ezone link wont post so look it, its a cool little cheap model. I've had a Hitech focus 3 for two years now, no trouble. It cost $100.00, and comes with all you need for rc aircraft at the beginner level. It can be swapped into othe 3 channel airplanes as this addiction takes effect. Have fun!

RCMICROFLIGHT has several beginner type aircraft plans.
Surprising, that I am the first to caution you that using your 75 mhz truck radio off the ground is unlawfull. ( unless you are on 27 mhz)

what kind of voltage do you guys suggest for the canned heat electronics? 4.8 or 3.6 or 2.4?
what are Cr2 batteries? http://www.radioshack.ca/eStore/category.aspx?language=en-CA&pagenum=1&category=Specialty+Batteries&catalog=RadioShack are they rechargable? what are their specs? (voltage and mah)

Frankenfoamy is right, you should get the right frenquency.
Also, if you are just starting out with aircraft, you may have quite an experience coming up. Anyway, this site, and the site I emailed you have many faq pages for batteries, and also a complete "how to" for the actuators. If you use the search engines in either site you will find much more info than you need.
CR-2 batteries are lithium, 3.6 volts, and NOT considered rechargable. AS far as voltage for the echarger motor, well that depends on prop size gearing and how long you wish it to last. DJ Aerotech uses similar in the "Road Kill" series they have for indoor flying, their site is in the vender list on this site. I've seen one of these fly, it very nice, and affordable, you may look into one rather than the route you are going. Just hate to see you disappointed. Good luck, email me anytime. MCrabby
