Hello class, welcome to Crashing your Tiger Moth 101. I have taken the liberty of testing this theory this very afternoon, so rest assured it works. :)

#1- mount your loosest li-on pack in the nose of your TM and secure it with a toothpick stuck in the foam (hey, worked on the other 30 flights )

#2- fly lazily along until you get some good altitude

#3- do a loop because you're getting bored :)

#4- watch and wonder what the small object was that looked like it just came off of your plane

#5- stare in horror as you realize the object was your battery pack and the plane is no longer reacting to your control inputs

#6- wave your arms helplessly in the air, add some colorful language if you're so inclined :)

#7- look on in disbelief as the TM slowly goes into gentle nose up attitude followed by a gentle stall, then repeats; drifting down like a leaf

#8- watch it settle gently into the tall grass, walk 30' from your original position, pick it up and wonder at the fact that there's not a scratch on it :) :D

#9- count yourself lucky that you are -only- out one battery pack:p

Hi,
It seems you have been lucky!
In a crash I stripped two of my HS-50 hitec servos; I have purchased replacement gears from sheldon. But could not figure out how to install them.
There are now screws to open on the plastic case.
1) has anyone done this, and could guied me?
2) or is there a website that shows how to do it?
3) how can I prevent stripping in the future?
thanks to all the experts,
ed...

Hi Ed,
The HS-50 case is press fitted together with a thin little plastic pin at each corner to provide alignment. If you look close in good light, you will see a thin line dividing the case. I use a razor blade pushed into this line to wedge the case apart. The output arm must be removed to take the top section off and access the gears. Work over a clean smooth surface, and note how the gears go together, and which ones are stripped. The metal shaft in the center will readily pull out of the case bottom to change those gears, and the output gear can be pulled of the change these. Go slow, and put the kids to bed first, and you can do it.
Regards, Dave

Hi,
Thank you for giving me directions; I shall try this very late in the night; actually this is the first time I have stripped gears.
And think it would be a good learning experience,

Hey ED,

Where do you fly?
