Whats breaking? The cord ?
On my first torq21 I replaced the string with mini-blind cord and it lasted the rest of the life of the engine (4 gallons)
I got another torq21 and now that I tune better the stock string has lasted over 2 gallons so far.
One thing I do is heat up the engine with a blow-dryer a bit befor I start it this helps on a newer engine to get it loosened up.
The head button. Did you strip the threads? Maybe from tighening the plug too tight.
There is also a little pin inside the engine that the pullstarter uses to turn the shaft over. This pin can wear (round off) and slip. You may think its the one-way bearing going but most likely its that pin. The pin only costs a dollar.
Try blow-drying the engine see it that helps the pullstarter life:)
