Night Moves what kind of hull is the black mono? Its very striking on, I would hate to have to keep track of that on water.

My highly modified wavemaster. It's been modified more since... but I haven't gotten any shots of it.

EDIT: What's with HTML and IMG code being turned off here? That royally bites.

Hey Frankw;
I just bought a Wave Master on ebay! Although the one I got has a K&B 3.5ss. I think it might be a bit much for the hull. Have you seen one that is gas powered? I haven't received mine yet , I bought it from a guy in Canada. You gotta love the Internet!

LOL, I commented about it on the bulletin boards on www.rumrunnerracing.com I thought it looked like a pregnant guppy.

Wavemasters aren't ment to be gas powered, and I will bet that that boat will be majorly tail heavy. When you get it, make sure that the Center of Gravity is about 30% of the hull length, forward of the transom (when the gas tank is empty).

Also, when I read the auction I realised that the guy didn't know how to set up a boat motor. With nitro boats, you have to set up the engine very rich while out of the water. It will lean out when it's in the water. It's best to adjust the engine needle valves while it's in the water.

You might have better luck with buying a new hull ($55 dollar part from tower hobbies) and then converting the K&B over to electric. But that would be a major task, LOL. Either way, I hope you have fun with it and enjoy yourself... watch out for those turtles.

Hey Frank;
This is actualy my third boat. The first one is pictured in this forum and has a 7.5cc K&B, the next is a 48" Scarrab with a weedeater engine(I got that one on the for sale forum), Then I got another 31" hull, and another 7.5, and then the Wave Master. I might need professional help! Anyways, I have been having trouble keeping the 7.5 nitro idleing in water. It idles fine on the stand with a gravity feed water thing I made, but wont stay running on a teather in my proving tank.(That would be an old hot tub.)I talked with K&B tech support and he said to lean out the high rpm needle. Which I did and It really screams on the stand now, and will idle effortlessly. But still the same problem when I try to put it in the tank. Once the prop gets deep enough in the water to send water througth the pee-tube, it gets a strong pull and stalls the engine. I've put on a new prop and a new K&B glow plug, I'm wondering if the flex shaft or flex tube might be worn or damaged causing excess drag under load. From reading your last post you have been able to idle a nitro engine in a tub. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks
Capt Vic

I once bought a nitro tunnel hull from my hobby shop that I work at. The owner, a good friend of mine, is a big boat guy who's won races and has the trophies to prove it. The boat I had was a small nitro boat with a K&B 3.5cc engine on it. The first thing he told me was to set the fuel mixture so that when it's out of the water, the engine was running rich, as it will lean out once in the water. If you have it at the "correct" fuel mixture out of the water, then once you put it into the water it'll lean out too much and die. During the time that I owned that boat I had never had any troubles with running it because of that advice. When I sold the boat I was sure to pass on that bit of information.

Hey Frank;
It sounds like good advise to me! I'll try it this evening in my proving tank. I'm taking it that by running rich on the stand you mean the high rpm mixture needle and not the Idle mixture needle. And that rich would be turning the high rpm mixture needle ccw(loosening). How much would you suggest, 1/4 turn?

Thanks

Pagemaster, the black hull is Aeromarine's Titan 40. It's harder to to keep it ON the water than keeping track of it. :D

Yeah, the high end needle.

I would open it by 1/4 turn and then try it out, and if it still doesn't work right, try another 1/4 turn, until it does work right. However, in the world of R/C boats, it is hard to idle on water, due to the fact that there is no clutch, and there's a constant strain on the engine. When I ran my boat I usually hit full throttle right when I put it into the water. It was a racing boat, so with me it was WOT and turn right. Some people, with hydroplanes throw thier boats into the water at a good speed to help it get on plane faster and keep the engine from dieing.
