I just installed a pair of Hitec digital servos in my GT, and they keep making these beeping and crackling noises when they're on, moving or not. Is this normal? The servos work great, I'm just not sure if the servos might have something wrong with them. Thanks.

They might be to close to the esc or motor (I might be wrong never had a digi servo before)

Digital servos do make sounds when not moving unlike non-digital servos. I don't exactly know what it sounds like, but if it works fine I wouldn't worry about it.

It's normal to hear those types of noises from a digital servo. I don't know the exact technical explanation, but when the servo is even slightly loaded, the extra current flowing through an internal FET causes the whining sound. It's perfectly normal. Even though the car or truck may be sitting still, there can be a slight load on the servo that causes these sounds.

That's good to hear. My Digital Airtronics made those noises. I thought something might be wrong. But I paid no mind to them because the servos worked flawlessly. Then my friend got some Hitec Digital ones that made them exact noices. So I figured it was normal. Glad to see Steve step in to clarify this. Thanks!

i always thought that it was the servo motor moving to keep the servo centered perfectly =)

Thanks for clearing this up. I'm glad nothing's wrong with my servos. :D
Yeah, I always knew that Digital servos were loud compared to the standard analog, but i never really cared about the difference untill i accually went digital. I was surprised, but i knew it was normal. ;)

Hmm, My jr 8450 digital is quiet so maybe it is just a HITEC thing??
I dont really know but I love my 8450.

It might be unique to Hitec servos.. we have 3 different types of digital Hitecs (5625/5925/5945) and they ALL make that popcorn/crackling noise.. I know I've heard several people swear by Airtronics servos but we haven't had any problems with our Hitecs (and they're cheaper)...

Ya know, KilRuf just said that his Airtronics digital servo made the same noise, and Steve said it's a digital thing...yeesh, you guys just hate Hitec, doncha?

Yeah, my Airtronics 94757 makes it when there is just a tiny bit of load on it. I can wiggle the servo horn a tad and then it'll stop making the noise. Of course this was when I ran it with one setup. I switch it from one TC3 to my other TC3 and I don't think it makes as much noise anymore. Only when I turn the wheel side to side. Other than that it's dead quiet at rest. My T3 on the other hand was bad with it. So I put in my Airtronics 94257 to remedy this. I dunno. Could be an ESC thing as well. 3 different ESCs.

I have 2 JR 8450's for my steering in my 1/8th scales. They both make the noises described here. Also I have 2 5945's in my Losis'
and they make the same noise, just not as audible.
My take, its just a normal noise associated with digital servos.

Well that is weird cause mine is pretty dang quit! Maybe it has to do with the 1/8 scale? More load on it? I run 1/10 offroad.
