I am getting into scratch building airplanes, and was wondering how much care i should put towards strength. I'm not worried about crashing, but more of aerobatic stability. As long as my .40 size planes have plenty of strength in flight I am happy. What size of balsa sheeting would be best for the ribs, and what should i use for the spars? Oh, and does anyoine have any tips or reinforcing wings? they are my main concern. I want to keep it light.

Cheers

Hi a6m2,
First, 1/16" sheet should be ample for the ribs and surface sheeting. Try and pick some nice stiff stuff for the ribs, and a more flexible grade for the sheeting. I genarally use a 3/18"X3/8" spar full span top and bottom, with an extra layer extending from the center out 1/2 way. A layer of light fiberglass cloth around the centersection is always nice, and if you soak it with thin CA it will not bubble under the iron on covering. Do this number with good ventilation, the fumes are ferocious for a little bit.
