I have three of them. One that's new, ont that's slightly used and another that's very used. I actually did the original test on the car in 1986 for Car Action! :D

The car is incredibly fast because there's very little drag in the drivetrain, but it doesn't handle nearly as well as the newer buggies. The chain drive is also very suceptible to damage from debris getting caught up between the chain links and the sprockets. It's best to run the chain fairly loose to allow a pebble to pass without breaking the chain. Very fun car to drive, but parts are very hard to come by, so I wouldn't suggest running it too hard, because you may not be able to fix it if you break something.

ebay is probably your best bet for vanning/land jump parts, although for something as simple as a dogbone, there may be a burns or inferno piece you can use...how long is the dogbone from end to end?

OGLandJump
07-15-2002, 02:02 AM
Thanks for the quick respond....

the dog bone measures 7 and 7/10th of a cm, I figure anything over 7.5 cm will do...

Hope the others might have this part!

Unobjectionable
07-15-2002, 07:52 PM
well the front driveshaft from an inferno is about 83mm long, might be pushing it...the esprit/landmax dogbones are too short...there is a 75mm driveshaft "in the family" but it only comes with the GT-30 2 speed transmission for the inferno series cars

let me do some checking and see if any of the 7.5/landmax 2 stuff might fit

p.s. don't suppose you have the part number/manual? they may still make it

*edited to make sense

75mm driveshaft?

Ok, you say the outdrives are 83mm right? well I stuck an outdrive up against my middle to rear driveshaft on the inferno DX, and there is about a 5m difference..

so there you go.. 77mm?

Don`t have a ruler or measure handy to get an exct reading.. but seems though its pretty close.

no, the short one is 83mm, the long one is closer to 100...i think i was having a brainfart before...your rear driveshaft and outdrives should all be the same on the inferno though (BS-45), the short one goes in front (BS-117)

Hey Steve! You did the original testing of the Turbo Burns back in 89 of 90 am i right ? what did you think about it. I just bought a used Turbo Burns from my local hobby shop and in my opinion this has got to be the best car ever ! I am trying to add better parts to it to compete Mp 7.5's ! This car is great !
p.s you also did an article titled project Turbo Burns am I right ?
Do you know if I can still get that magazine I want to know more about the Turbo Burns .

Thanks,

The part number is CB-11.

Part LD-11 will also work, but it is a bit thinner (it's from the older Land Jump series).

I am new to this forum and couldn't believe what I found: People that have had and still have the old Kyosho 1/8 buggies! I have two of them, a Vanning and a Land Jump. Belong in museums? NO WAY! The Vanning still runs and the Land Jump is getting a "special" second life!

Star666
09-21-2002, 10:24 PM
Huh... haven't been on in a while...not a lotta peeps seeem to have been in the 80's. even if I am just a kid I still know my vintage cars. oh at the track I race at I took a few laps around with my old skool ride. some people were impressed. oh well I am really just wanna know more bout this car from people who have had it longer than I. oh yeah by the by, what's a land jump??

cmracing
09-21-2002, 10:34 PM
I have a Kyosho LandJump, it was the predecesor of the Kyosho Vanning/Integra/Burns. The Land Jump is 100% metal. The only plastic is the fuel tank, radio box and electronics, oh, the wheels too! :D It is chain-driven, 4wd 1/8 Nitro Buggy just like the later Vanning/Integra/Burns (which came in several versions that I did not know about until I saw this link!) I am currently rebuilding the Land Jump and putting a 4 stroke OS .40 buggy engine in it. The Vanning I have still runs fine! :)

What about the presto? even if it is the same as the vanning aside from the body...but does anyone have it? I kinda like the design of the presto better even if it did not have a roll cage. I want to see more old 8th scale buggy lovers aight!

cmracing:

There is another LandJump that is older than yours. It has aluminum 2 piece wheels that are held together by 8 small nuts & bolts each. The front wheels actually had one way bearings in them as well as a 'slipper clutch' instead of a differential.

The radio box was not as sturdy either. It was about 1mm thick and would bend if the servos went too far.

Also, the Burns series was not chain driven. The Burns was Kyosho's first pan chassis and shaft driven car. I think that it was out for about a year before the Inferno came out.

If anyone knows the history of these Kyosho 1/8 Nitro Buggies I would love to see it posted here. Include whatever you can, dates, names (of the cars) etc..... It is just kinda neat to see that this stuff is still around and running! I tried to post a picture of my Vanning but I got sooooo many error messages! At first the file was too large. I re-saved it in a lower resolution and then I had an error that the image was too large! I don't have a high-end digital camera but I guess I am using it in the best mode possible and need to shrink them down! A normal picture for me is about 800K. I shall try again............:(

Go to my link above. It has the first and second LandJump, in that order.

The first LandJump has the metal wheels with the front having one way bearings. The front diff was actually a 'slip-diff', not a gear typ diff. Also, the shocks were two separate pieces, the springs on one connection and the oil shock on another.

The second LandJump went with the plastic wheels and coil-over shocks. A gear type diff up front, but a solid axle in the rear.

Nest are the Mint Baja and the Integra Vanning. I don't have the lexan bodied versions of the Mint or the Vanning (Impacta Baja and Integra Presto). All were chain drive, ladder chassis cars.

The Baja models were a two wheel drive version of the Integra series and used a side exhaust engine as stock instead of a rear exhaust (the big can on the Mint is the muffler). While the Vanning used gear type diffs front and rear, the Mint used a solid axle in the rear.

After these came the Burns series (Burns, Turbo Burns, Burns DX). The Burns was Kyosho's first shaft drive, pan chassis car. Also, the rear wheels and tires were wider than the fronts by about 3/8".

Then it was the Inferno series (Inferno, Turbo Inferno, Inferno DX 1 and 2). The front and rear wheels and tires are now the same width.

The Inferno MP series came next with the MP5, then MP6, then the MP7.5 series.

I am not sure of the dates of release of any of these, but I think that the approx dates are (Steve P would probably give a better idea of this):

- LandJump 1 about 1980, maybe earlier;
- LandJump 2, early 80's (81 or 82);
- Vanning and Mint, mid 80's (84 or 85). I bough my first Vanning in 1987;
- The Burns was released in the late 1980's (89). I bought mine in 1990;
- Inferno, early 90's (91);
- Inferno MP5, about 1994;
- Inferno MP6, about 1997;
- Inferno MP7.5, about 2000.

NitroOffRoader: Thanks for the info! :D I looked at your pictures and from them I see that I have the 2nd version of the Land Jump and my other buggy is the Integra Vanning (what a strange name!). I plan on getting the piston and sleeve "squeezed" for the Vanning so I can keep running it. It starts right up but will die (flame out) when I go to accelerate after it is warm. :( It runs fine when stone cold. I have looked all over and couldn't find any NOS OS parts anywhere. The Land Jump has a seized engine so it is getting a 4-stroke OS (hopefully!)

I have a great story about this car in the USA-1 Forum - Check it out! (http://www.radiocontrolzone.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=773208#post773208) . I'm wondering what the heck this car is?!?!?! I know it's a kyosho from the old skool days of the late 80's early 90's, but not sure if its the Kyosho Sandmaster or Stinger or what it is. Read that story! Give me some feedback please!

StevePond
12-29-2002, 09:55 AM
It's too bad you guys trashed it. Those cars sell for pretty good money on ebay because they're so rare. It's a Kyosho Assault.

This brings up another point; I don't mean it as a flame of your buddy, but it just reminded me. Why do so many people continue to run their cars when there's an obvious radio problem?! It's like testing the trigger on a bear trap - your only going to know you've pushed it too far when it's too late! :p ;) :D

Back on subject, I just picked my fourth Vanning. I have two that have never been run, and two that are used; one that's pretty well beaten and the other that's in good shape. I'm going to make a running out of the two that are used so I can get some video.

I have 2 Silver Fox here.
Both of them are not in running condition for the moment but I'm working on it.

They were purchase in 1985.

Really fast buggies!!

But still had to try installing a 3 speed Team Associated RC-500 gearbox in 1989. It was EXTREMELY fast but not durable. The plastic gears was not meant for off-road use and weared out too fast.

Anyway, stock Silver Fox are fast enough. Even with the stock 12 tooth clutch bell. Faster than my stock Storm RTR that comes with a 14 tooth clutch bell. :)

How do you connect to the internet? If you are still using a dial-up, it will be horribly slow:o :o :o :o

There was an upgraded front steel disc system sold at the time of the Burns production, but I have not seen one in many years.

If you want used perfect condition items I have all of the items you are looking for. If you want new, I have the following and also suggest some of these items to correct the worn suspention problem.

NEEDED Suspension parts
Kyosho Suspension Holder Set Burns/Turbo Burns NEW $20
Kyosho Shaft Set Burns/Turbo Burns (I imagine these are all bent to some degree) $30
Tie-Rod Set $20
Shock Towers USED perfect condition $25, high polished $45
Front/Rear braces USED perfect condition FREE with everything else.
Other recommended parts
Kyosho Main Gear Steel 53T Burns (Looks like yours is worn) $40
Kyosho Brake Set Burns/Turbo Burns (2) $20

Hello

I have a Silver Fox Gold Edition in ok condition bought second hand. I wanted to restore it and worked on it for a few nights - that's more than 5 years ago! I think it runs but I'm not sure. The rims and tires are in mint condition and the engine hasn't been runned for more than ½ an hour.

Would anyone be interested in buying?

Do you still have your buggy?

Xamirp
05-14-2005, 05:43 AM
Hello Hdcchrome

Yes, I still have it. I took it apart recently and as far as I can tell, most parts are original except from one of the shock absorbers, which has been fixed with a bolt. The plastic cover is also missing and a new front has been added.

I didn't know much about this stuff when I started and left it with fuel inside. I took the engine apart as well and cleaned it. I think it will run, but it will need a new screw thread as I overscrewed one of the bolts.

Xamirp,

I have 99% of the parts to restore the Silver Fox. The only itme I don't have is the lexan body to cover the radio box.

Let me know what you need.

I also have all the parts for Landjump, Vanning, Presto, Mint Las Vegas and Impacta Baja.

Take Care,

The Chassis and other red and orange parts were painted. I took the parts to an automobile painting shop and did it. :cool:

ld-25 is the lowest i have seen

I think FM-221 is the lowest, although it was not made for Presto / Vanning (it was made originally for 1/8 Fantom .21 in the mid 80's) but to fit that you need a larger clutch bell. I'll try to get a photo for better comparison.

Hi,

Check out those lanjump one piece wheels ! those are new vintage wheels from early 80's, they were made I think as a hob up for landjump and Presto/Vanning at that time (check out the wheel drive nut size, exactly matching landjump / Vanning drive nut !!).

There are 2 colors white and yellow the white part number is 92656W and the yellow is 92656KY all kyosho part numbers.

there is a silver color also but need slight modification to the front dish to accommodate the nylon nut, part number 92656MS.

you can check also part number TRH001BK the same but with black color.

the tires I used are Pro-Line Trac-Ta-Gator 2.2 see them here:

Hi Marwankw, I managed to get the 92656KY rims and it was the local distribuor's last 2 sets!! In addition, they told me that 92655W also works just that the pattern's different. I managed to get the TR17 tyres, I know its not the same pattern but they are also the last 4 pieces remaining! :D

I have been doing some research :teacher: on Kyosho 1/8 4wd buggies, and finally came across this thread. I want to see if what I have is right....

Is this the order these came out....

1. Landjump
2. Vanning*Presto (Vanning was rollcage, Presto was bodied)
3. Burns*Burns DX
4. Turbo Burns
5. MP5
6. MP6
7. MP7.5*Kanai 1*Kanai 2*Kanai 3
8. MP777*SP1*SP2*WC
9. MP9 (2008)

Are there different variations of each of these? Only interested in 4wd for now.

1. Landjump (version ONE and TWO) Sometimes referred to as Integra
2. Vanning/Presto/Mint Las Vegas/Impacta Baja)
3. Burns/Burns DX/Turbo Burns
4. Inferno/Inferno DX/Turbo Inferno
5. MP5
6. MP6
7. MP7.5/Kanai 1/Kanai 2/Kanai 3
8. MP 7.5 sport/MP777/SP1/SP2/WC
9. MP9 (2008) WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to expensive :)

If you want to see all these kits I have them all BUT the MP9 :)
