hi folks
well when i'm right i say i'm right...when i'm wrong i'll be the first to say it........ Tite Bond Isn't For everything!!!
although it seems to be phenominal in repair work and it will glue foam fuselage together better than ca .... it wouldn't bond to the pvc parts of my new gws tiger moth (i lost half a day reglueing my struts back onto my wings.
as i was cleaning off excess i noticed it just popped right off the strut regardless of my cut lines
so while i would recommend titebond on the pourous surface repairs, keep it away from new builds (except for fuselage- its lighter , and sandable than the ca u get with the kit .... u cant see a seam on my moth)

You are correct, Titebond is NOT for PVC. It was developed for the woodmaking industry. Considered it an improved version of Elmer's white glue.
It is fine on wood, paper, most foam (cellular plastic), etc. It will not bond to surfaces that are non-porous.

keep in mind too with titebond it is not water and heat resistant. Instrument makers prefer it for these reasons. guess it could have pros and cons in planes there 2. Im a newbie so im not too sure.

well i wasn't sure of that...as a project manager for a national developer we use expandable foam adhesives for alot of different things including sealing penetrations in buldings against water incursion
so i took my moth stripped it and put it in the bathtub for four hours no degradation in seams nor any incursion to the inner fuse
seems pretty water resistant and proof to me
i use it on my r/c boats on the lake (got a lake 50 feet from back door and i own part of it..lucky me) all my boats are scratch built with balsa basswood and titebond lol never had a leak.
lol and btw when 2ng gets here and sees this he will tout probond again...
here in st pete florida walmart carries it but i haven't found it anywhere else
home depot is 2 miles from my house in minimal traffic
walmart is 14 miles in heavy traffic.......lol i'll never use it cause i am a lazy driver lol <<S>> (thats a salute to combat sim pilots) 2NG
lol i'll never use it cause i am a lazy driver lol LOL..Some of us guys are not familiar with different adhesive, such luck came your way, for you at one time, had been exposed to an other kind of hobby in R/C. The application of is it balsa basswood and titebond lol have been put into one, in Probond compound, there is a good site about it and Ezone has a review as well, TM lover's such, as myself loves the Probond application, specially when lightness is the issue. Works on high winged plane as well. 480's and up. I mostly use it in the firewall and motor mount in balsa.
lol i'll never use it cause i am a lazy driver lol Once again..... Get out and get some exercise...LOL -- You could be introduced to a new wonderful, made in 19** application:D
AirWarriorBelgy,
Probond...... LOL., but "'m open to a new application though, I would love to hear about your method, that is new to me. Owned a lake, eh?! Man your a lucky gun.... Any future modifications with floats on your planes?

Okay you guys. I'm totally confused. As usual.
What kind of TiteBond are we takling about? There appear to be at least five different kinds. From an Elmers like white glue to a polyurethane glue that looks exactly the same as probond. :)
Air Warrior, maybe if you can't get to Wallymart you can find the TiteBond PU someplace? (I agree about the traffic on 19  )
Hey Genovia, ;) didn't you know everyone in Florida lives on a lake? :D I do too and can float fly 80 feet from my back door. ;) :D
(just kidding, about everyone)

Hey Genovia WHO, who? O...., hey! Sup, BC.
You found me:D Yeah you guys are still lucky... Share the lake around, Man!! hehehe (jk) That's why your into floats, ha? BC.:)
Hey Genovia, didn't you know everyone in Florida lives on a lake? I do too and can float fly 80 feet from my back door. How lucky are you guys!!? Here in Cal. it's a hide and seek with the Cop's, if their not around we float, but then their always around:) Man, the one of the Sch. that I used to fly before during the weekends is filled with new guys flying the TM and FBXL, I thought, that was cool. Man, but these guys have no discipline at all, six to seven planes in the air, and I counted three mid. air collision.
I haven't ROW before:( that would be cool, still, I think you guys sux's (jk) for having a lake in your in your backyard.:)
Wait...Air Warrior, maybe if you can't get to Wallymart you can find the TiteBond PU someplace? (I agree about the traffic on 19 ) Traffic? We eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, watch DVD and TV in the freeway, here in CA. Traffic?:D

Ya I know what you mean, it's rough on us ol' timers when all these *noobies* take over our fields. ;) I've been flying about 9 months and I'm sure the guys at my field felt the same way about me when I first showed up. :D Now they seem to trust my flying enough, a couple weeks ago we had four planes in the air at once with no problems.
On the other hand one of the new guys has a Tigermoth and it's a blast to fly around with another moth. We try to fly in formation or chase each other and have joked about full contact combat but so far haven't collided either accidentally or on purpose. It's harder to hit a dodging 'moth than you'd think. :D 'Specially when it's windy. My moth is so old and I'm not worried about the risk of a possible collison so can just have fun with it. :D

Ya I know what you mean, it's rough on us ol' timers when all these *noobies* take over our fields. Yes it is, but entertaining:) Can't wait until they can fly one by one, or 2 airplanes in the air at once....

lol wow this thread is getting longer!!!!
the titebond pu is what i use...very liteweight
i'll have to take photo of lake (lake Sylvia), its large.. about 5 acres but shaped weird (not really good room for flying boats, at least i'm not ready for it yet) and my boats are small (anymore)
every time i try to fly over it i lose site of the plane or end up in a neighbors tree lol
basketcase, since you live in the area i will tell ya that i actually live in seminole by the high school (GO WARHAWKS!!)
and fly across the street in Bauder Elementary's field or is it seminole middle school's field, well its the field between the two
schools
lol 2ng i get out quite a bit and walk about 15 miles a day at the jobsite (right on the gulf of mexico) i build million dollar luxury condos on the waterfront cozy job and i am spoiled the jobsite is 3 miles from house
i sometimes go to work early (bout 6 am) and fly on the beach
when there is no wind

So, it turns out that both you guys are talking about the same glue from different manufacturers. :D :D lol
The lake behind my yard is pretty small and both sides of my 'runway' or, maybe it's more like a carrier deck :) have tall trees. No go arounds. I'm in the Tyrone area.

Tigermoth on a nice day.

I don't think there's much difference between Probond or Titebond. I never heard about PU glue until after I built my moth and fixed it a few times with epoxy. Then I had a hard time finding it. Finally someone clued me in about super Wally and I braved the traffic and got some. ;) One of the best things about it is how you can adjust the foaming and cure time by adding differing amounts of water. It even sticks to plastic pretty good if the plastic is roughened up first.
My favorite place to fly is the north soccer fields at Walter Fuller Park off Tyrone about 75th Street. Usually there shortly after sunup any calm morning. I never fly the Switchback in my backyard. Just in case. :p
