I know it's vintage now but I know there are some people who have a sledgehammer. Just thought the electric monster truck section needed more variety, so post what you want about the sledgehammer here.:)

hey i have a sledgehammer and it is great all u have to do is go in reverse and give all the gas foward real fast and u got a long wheelie it is awsome

I had a Traxxas Sledgehammer at one time.

The Sledgehammer had turnbuckles all the way around, 2 oil shocks per wheel for a total of 8. It was a well designed truck. The truck had white nylon chassis, with white nylon suspension arms, and it had some aluminum chassis plates. The motor mount and part of the gear box was also aluminum. It had those funky spring loaded body mounts.

Far superior in design to any truck 4wd or 2wd of the time. The Sledgehammer was Traxxas's anwser to the Tamiya Blackfoot.

i've got to ask......sledgehammer or stampede? they both r about the same price but, the sledgehammer has 4 more shocks than the stampede. can either one pull a wheelie from a stand still? which can ride a wheelie better?

the sledge hammer is 5 times better than a stampede but u cant get as many parts for the sledgehammer if u could the slegehammer is way better and can ride wheeles

I recently purchased a Sledgehammer on ebay that needs some tlc. I have reassembled the gear box according to the instructions, but when I run the motor the transmission is LOUD. Nothing is slipping, it just makes this horribly loud gear meshing noise. Any obvious guesses? The diff seems smooth, the car rolls decently... just this noise.

thanks.

i had an old traxxas buggy made out of the same white nylong matierial.. it ran great but it always made that horrible gear meshing noise the whole time it was in motion.. i got used to it and it never blew up or anything, sucker was fast for what it was too!!

the tranny noises u r hearing is normal, its just because teh tranny has 32 pitch gears in it also, thats why its so noisy

well.....i should be getting a set of used titan 550's from an emaxx. i cant wait. i realy want to see how that thing performs in my sledge. i just make a posi rear for my truck over the weekend with wheel bearig greese, but i did one wheelie, and the grease broke. so i think i may use some caulking.
what else is good to used besides wheel bearing grease, jb weld, or caulking?
i'll let ya knwo how it runs if i get the motors.

I just bought a Sledgehammer off Ebay:D
As for the diff, I like to use clay with a bit of water. The clay locks up the gears pretty good, for traction, but still moves to keep it from breaking axles off jumps and whatnot.

mnster

But unfortunately it also makes the diff gears more strippable and the clay goop sometimes oozes out into the bearings at least in the Stampede anyway.

I got a card from UPS saying it'll be here tomorrow:D
I've been working on some custom axles for it. Since I'll be running BL most of the time, I need stronger axles. I trued down some E-maxx axles to fit 5X11 bearings, and I'm working on the shafts right now.

I got my Sledgehammer on Friday, been working on it all weekend. I was unsatisfied with the width of the suspension, not to mention the stiffness, so I am redoing the suspension with Stampede arms and E-maxx shocks. I got some new wheels also, I'll post some pics when it's done.

She's done! Well, mostly, I still have some steering issues to work out, but other than that, here she is:

Soya v1.1

Here's a shot of the front suspension. By flipping the arms over, I gained about 1" of wheelbase. The wheels are RPM Clawz, kinda hard to see in the pic. I'm going to buy some Mashers, too.

Soya v1.1

Here's the rear suspension. I'm going to use the E-maxx shocks here, too, I'm still working out the angles.

hey man nicee Sledge. i wanna do what you did to ur Sledge. i had thought about using t/e maxx shocks on it also. is that was is on in the pics? what modifications did u have to do to get them to fit.?just out of curiosity about how much did u spend on the suspension? now that i got a titan 550 and a 10t pinion, im trying to make the sledge a crawler, and need a way better suspension than what is on there already.

well nice work.

Soya v1.1
02-16-2003, 10:06 PM
How much did I spend on the suspension? Nothing, I already had all the parts. The only things I had to buy were longer turnbuckles and stampede axles. I'm gonna buy a E-maxx body, also. I test fitted mine, it fits good, but mine is all torn up. I mounted the long shocks on the back, but it's not important enough to post another pic.

what mods did you hve to do to make the pede arms fit?

aaron

Soya v1.1
02-16-2003, 10:53 PM
Up front I had to make some spacers because the arms are wider (adjustable caster:D). I had to lightly file the inside of the arms so the C-hubs fit smoothly. I also used longer turnbuckles and steering rods. The rear arms bolted right in, no mods at all. Longer turnbuckles and axles, of course. And I drilled new holes in the arms for the shocks.

ok sweet, you think i could to this project for less than 50.00?
now my big thing is the shocks.the stock ones on there now ( 4years old) finally took a dump on me ( just like my xl1 did but i got it fixed). how many shocks are you running on the sledge now? adn how do they feel, pretty good? would i e able to put the t/e maxx shocks on it and have a soft suspension?

sorry for all teh questions, i really wanna do this project.
right now im trying todraw up some plans for a cutome chassis w/ a 4 link set up on it, on autocad.

Easily.
I have 4 shocks right now.
The suspension is kinda stiff, because of the angle of the shocks and E-maxx springs, but if you could find some really soft springs and light oil, it might be soft enough.
The suspension has a very progressive feel, should jump very well
:D

It's a Hacker B508S and a Shulze 18/61. I didn't think I could run the BL because of the counter gear, but it held up just fine:D

Soya v1.1
02-20-2003, 08:48 PM
I was jumping it at mnster's the other day, held up just fine. The suspension was a little low, IMO, So I did some cutting and raised the GC about an inch and raised the travel about a half inch. Not noteworthy enough for a pic, though. I'm also working on squeezing in another stick pack. 12 cells, baby:D

Soya v1.1
02-24-2003, 04:20 PM
I was just outside, running it on 13 cells. The motor had so much power, it was breaking the tires loose at 20-25. I had my ginormous ramp set up, also. It jumped quite a bit shorter than expected, but it did fly about 20 ft. Apparently, it's a bit tail heavy:p

ssclone

that is soo awesome...after i get a job (only 15) im not only going to get my 1:1 car done but im getting a BL setup.

have you done any smokey burnouts with it yet?

ssclone

awesome! i bet traction is a problem just like my buddies 70 chevelle 327 600hp adn no traction and only running 245's on the rear. but this summer 10point roll cage and a full tub.

It's kinda weird, but it works. I put big zipties under the first pack, put that pack in, and then tightened down the second pack on top of it.

ssclone
03-06-2003, 05:30 PM
hey man thanks...i had one ziptied to the rear skidplate, but it kept on rubbing the tires. so i tyed to rig it up on top like that but i didnt think about ziptieing them together.

I just won a Sledge roller and a Stampede roller on ebay, $61 bucks for both. For the Sledge what are the needed items for this beast in order to get it to jump and wheelie. I want it to be tough from the start. Sling your ideas this way.

ok i have a Q? i have a tranny from a sledge, and one of the output yokes was tore off....and i noticed it doesnt have pinned outdrives for use with the steel u-joints....so what can i do??the tranny is getting mounted to an old gold tub rc10 for some bashing, but mostly trying to make a cheap puller with spare parts lying around...any suggestions are welcomed!!!!

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJH42&P=7 -these are the stock replacements but they are a real pain to install and i heard somewhere that it was possible to put a nitro stampede differential into the sledge and if you were to do that it would have the pinned outdrives should you need to replace them again....if you you just go with stock i would reccomend replacing both while you have the tranny apart so you wouldnt have to go into it for a while.

OK everyone here is a question for anyone who can answer -- I have a hammer that my wife purchased for me new many years ago, but I have long since trashed the body with ruff play can anyone suggest where I can get a hard type body for it or just a replacement?? I am an over the road truck driver and I like to take my toys with me and this one really needs some help--thanks waterbucket.

You could look to the toy RC market for hard bodies...

Anyway, I thought I'd share some pictures. I took these last weekend up at our cottage. There are a lot of them, so I put them on Yahoo Photos. The slide show is the best way to view them! There is a lot of woods driving, some jumping, some leaf bashing, some bluff climbing, and some rock crawling!

That truck was bought by me new sealed in box this past June. I was running a 17-turn Orion at the time.

Enjoy...
