Rudder size

I'm building a 48" Deep V nitro boat. It is 12" wide at the rear, and 5" deep at the deepest point. I'm running a .40 engine in it. Does anyone have information on how to get the size of the rudder right? I've been told there is a formula, but I can't find it.

Checkout the Warehouse Hobbies/Enforcer Boats website-they carry a rudder normally used on a gasboat that might fit the bill for your hull. If you not sure about, give them a call at: 863-699-1231-they're very helpfull people.
