Fast is a relative term, kind of like saying "I have a big boat", someone always has one bigger! A nitro boat is faster than an electric, a big nitro is faster than a small one. the hull makes a differance too. The less hull draging in the water the faster the boat. This gives the edge to hydroplane hulls. The down side of hydros is they don't like ruff water. This is where the Vee hulls have the advantage. The "V" slices through the wave where the hydro bounces. I have a 36" tunnel hull (type of hydro) with a 7.5cc K&B outboard (.452 cu. in.) and it's FAST!!!! Around 60mph. But it does'nt like the chop. I've been blown off the Delta the last three weekends in a row! The boat your looking at has a .16 cu.in. engine (not as fast) and I don't know what kind of hull. A rule of thumb , the flater the Vee (less deadrise) the faster the boat. The bigger the Vee (more deadrise) the better it handles ruff water. A lot of choices I know, but you'll need to make a decision on what you really want , areally FAST BOAT (a outrigger hull is the fastest), or one that you can drive more often (a big heavy Vee hull) Decisions,,decisions.
Try E-bay , I got my tunnel for a little over $300.00 and I just got another hull for $56.00 As far as RC boat racing checkout namba.com Just follow the directions when you get there and they'll show you to the namba near you!

Your right, Raiderfootbal27, for some reason division 17 isn't listed! I guess the next thing to do would be ask around your local hobby shops, maybe you'll get lucky!
Kansas huh? I'm from California myself, pretty close to Yosemite National Park, in the Sierra mountains!

What kind of a boat you have?

Hey Raiderfootbal27;
I've got lots of boats and still getting more! I just got two Nikko electrics on the Buy/Sell/Trade Forum. Friday I won an auction on ebay for a 36" tunnel hull. And I'm currently looking at a couple more! That's assuming your talking about MODEL BOATS.
I've had five REAL BOATS and still looking for another one as well. (I might need some profesional help!) My first model is a 35"length, 15" beam, tunnel hull I got on ebay. It has a 7.5cc K&B outboard engine(2.5hp) and a Hytec radio. Just starting that thing (I haven't come up with a name for it yet) got me hooked on rc! The electrics were just for fun, and the tunnel hull (only) was to practice painting and finishing.
My current REAL BOAT is a 25ft Searay Sundancer named "Good Ju-Ju". It has a 7.5liter OMC King Cobra (that's 330hp!)I've been aruond boats for along time, and I have learned quite a bit as time went on. Engines, sterndrives, outboards,(I built my first boat, a 14ft Sears & Roebuck runabout, and I put a 115hp Mercurey outboard on it, that one was named "Wave Hopper One"), hull types, and proper operation. And now here comes model nitro burning radio control!!!!
This is going to be fun!

I am a biggenir, so what do you mean by tunnel hull, why does it matter how many inches it is, and then u measure it, is it length, width????

A tunnel hull is a type of hydroplane generaly associated with outboard power. A hydroplane uses air to lift the hull out of the water with the reason being the less resistance the faster it will go. It's kind of like when you stick your hand out the window of a car going down the highway. Turn your hand a little and it lifts up.
If your boats running good only the prop and a small amount of the hull will be in the water in the striaghtaways!
As far as why does it matter how big it is, this is America and size matters!!! Actually, it has to do with the horsepower of the boat. Too much power and too small of a hull and your boat won't handle very well. Ever hear the term "Blow Over", it's when the hydro gets too much air under it and it does a backwards summersault! Too much hp and the boat will literally flip over under hard exceleration!
In the measurements I used a nautical term "beam" which refers to the width of the hull.

when you first buy the boat, do u have to tune then engine and stuff?
:D IGOT A NITRO VIPER AND IT IS A BLAST! THE INSTRUCTIONS R REAL GOOD & GIVE DETAILS ABOUT MOTOR BREAK IN. IF THE WATE U RUN ON IS KINDA ROUGH FROM WIND, YOU MIGHT WANT TO PUT THE OPTIONAL TRIM TABS ON IT. THE BOAT IS QUICK FROM A DEAD START, DON'T KNOW HOW FAST [MPH] BUT IT IS FUN. IT WILL CATCH A LOT OF AIR OFF OF BOAT WAKES & WAVES.
DEFINETLY MORE FUN THAN AN ELECTRIC. THE PROP BREAKS EASY, SO IF THERE IS STUMPS ORFLOATING STUFF YOU MIGHT WANT TO ORDER EXTRA PROPS. GOOD LUCK!:D

I PAINTED THE DRIVERS W/REGULAR MODEL PAINT AND IT IS STAYING ON. THE REST I PUT THE DECALS ON--NO PROBLEM DUDE!:D

hey alf, umm, u know that little plastic thing that connect the drive shaft with the engine? well, sometimes, just for no reason, my keeps popping off, im kind of afraid that it will do it in the middle of the lake, does your do that too? thanks

i think what ur talking about is a coupling joint.
i don't have a nitro viper, so i cant be sure, but there are tons of coupling joints out there to use. just find one that has a bore diameter of ur propshaft, and u should be fine.

if u want ur viper to go faster without too much trouble, you could try getting metal racing props from octura. also there are places outthere that will take ur engine and install upgrades for u.
like alf said, extra props r always a good idea. try towerhobbies.com for cheap plastic ones.

If you feel in control, your not going fast enough --mario andretti
it will be plenty fast for a first boat.
on propellers, for my elec. catamaran, i like to run these translucent red kyosho props, 7bucks each but make a huge difference.
remember, with more pitch or diameter, you will spin less rpm's.
raider, you might not have your prop shaft tube close enough to keep the coupler in place, or the piece on the d/s might need moved closer to the motor, then u might need to place another washer behind it to keep it in place.:D
god luck, alf

that tube keeps moving back, the epoxy broke or something, and its not holding it anymore, so i tried to put some right under the fuel tank, and that broke too, i have tried everything, nothing seems to hold, i have tried liquid nails, everything, i think it keeps coming off because of the vibration when the engine works, and when the boat moved, what should i do?
