Hi MB17, If you're used to building cars an easy kit would be no problem for you. A perfect trainer airplane would be a DuskStik from www.MountainModels.com . It's similar to a Litestik but with all the stik mods designed in.

If you don't want to build, and depending on how much you care that it looks like an airplane some others you might check out are the Tigermoth, MiniMax, PicoCub, or if you have more room a Soarstar or SkyScooter.

A lot depends on where you plan to fly and where you plan to go in the hobby. :)

Do a Search for any of these planes and you'll find plenty of information.

Another thing if you're not already practicing on a R/C flight sim get one and start. :D FMS is a really good one and is free. There are a couple hundred extra planes available for it and you can make or buy a cable to use your transmitter with your PC (if you have a tx with trainer port)

Best of luck,

get a tiger moth from gws

takes about 4 hours to build and flies great for 1st timers

very forgiving when ya make a mistake

and it''ll loop...(whoopee)

i have seen the mini max (guy i share a field with on sundays) and it does fly good but it also is not very aerobatic till modified

tiger moth is about 50 bucks
control gear w/out transmitter will run about 70 to 80 bucks (2 servo's, receiver, crystal (which you probably have from cars but they may be to heavy) and speed controller

i have two hi-tec 55 serv. gws 100 5amp esc and jr 610 receiver
rolls off the ground in about 2 to 4 feet and once trimmed right climbs almost on its own

check out the other postings on the moth and go to the site that somebody posted with the video's of 3 moths flying together

The Fun is in the SwithBack:) I love my Moth, but the SB, from what I have heard is the BEST:) (Well, ..... Second to the Piper J-3 Cub of course:) )

Just to clarify...

The SwitchBack is not a good trainer! It's a sport model for acrobatic performance.

The Dusk Stik is an excellent trainer if you aren't intimidated by the thought of building and covering a model. I hear it's as easy a kit as they come and designed with the beginner in mind, so there's nothing to worry about really. It's just the thought that can be irritating.

There are a handful of threads actively discussing trainers. Check those out too for other options.
