you whould have to be more spacific about "mini-monster trucks"
like who makes them so that we all know what your talking about and anyone else that comes
all that is needed is a link:cool:

well i would think that a person would be smart enough to realize that if i didn't have a link to some, either;
A) None Exist.
B) Some Exist and i have not yet found them.
This thread is also for people who did build a micro monster(i know people who have)or for people who are building micro monsters(i know people who are). This is for them to show their creations, and if i find a mass produced miro monster i'll immediately tell yall.

:ö: when i read this post, i said to myself, "this things are cool!", lucky enough, my kid have a 1/24 Mini 4wd Monster truck (by Tamiya) collecting dust on the shelf, with my 5yr old son go signal, we started to do some surgery with the kit, we used an old Futaba 2channel AM reciever, an old 148servo, and a quantum reverse powered by 6pcs. AAA 1500 batteries, and an old Tamiya Plasma Dash Motor. what we did was, remove the stock battery holder, and remove all the excess plastic to smoothen the chassis, i cut a piece of thick plastic into a fat "T" shape to be used as a front suspension arms, and we shaped a thick plastic into something like a hub carrier to hold the front wheels (front wheel axle was cut in half) , and some tamiya mini-4wd FRP plates as a steering link with some ballcups and allum. ball studs(?) to connect it to the steering servo (whew!..i wish my camera is working now) we also used a 1/24 size Isuzu MU to cover up all the electronics!, oh, all the electronics sits on top of the chassis and fits perfectly ;) , as of now, the mini-truck doesn't have any spring or shock damping system, it relied mostly on it's soft tire to absorb small :D bumps, accelaration was great, thanks to stock low gear ratio on the kit, but top speed was a bit slow for my taste, but for a 5yr old kid, it's more than enough!!, great thing about this kit is it's sealed gears, no worries of breaking gear teeth while having fun on the dirt ;) how does it handles?.. great!, with proportional steering and speed what more can we ask for?.. a shock damping!, that would be first on the list, but i'm working on a simple damping system where servo would be mounted on the axle, and still on the drawing board is a 1/24 4WD twin motor Mini-Monster Truck, a small version of the Tamiya wild dagger. -æ
I built on of those also based on the article in RCCA. Here are the pics of my truck.

:ö: hey that thing looks sooooo cool, but isn't that Auldey race tin doesn't have proportional steering and single speed only?, that's the reason why i chose to use the Tamiya wild monster as a base chassis, so i could use my old Rx/Tx , servo and esc, i'll post some pics too soon, but my truck is not as good looking as yours :(! happy mini-off-roading! :D -æ

I'm going to order one of these this week to see what it is like...
http://www.rodkrapong.com/car-bigfoot.htm
I think I remember reading somewhere that they use two motors... not sure. Either way, they look cool, and use the electronics from the Tyco Canned Heat, or Audley as know elsewhere. I'll post results in this or some other forum.

it works like tank.it has no "stearing".it uses a motor on each side if the truck.

:ö: check out the pics of my mini-monster truck, it's at mini-zracing.com under mini-z science!, it works really cool, co'z i used an old 1/10 R/C scale electronics, so controlling the truck is not much of a difference from a 1/10 scale, except it's size that is!, a small rock the same size of a golf ball is too big for a 1/32scale! :D -æ

I've been told that it does have steering. It utilises the original Race Tin magnetic turning system. There are a few pictures here and there from Thailand where they are extremely popular (both the regular Race Tin and the Bigfoot versions). There are some pictures on www.rodkrapong.com. That's the main page that's in Thai. I think they are in the Gallery. You have to hold your mouse over the links to find the one that says gallery. It shows some pictures of guys going through a small tabletop obstacle course and they have to have steering to be able to navigate it.
For what it's worth, I know the owner of rodkrapong/carmoworld and I'm helping him with translation of more pages into English. I also am working on a deal to start importing a number of products that he sells, including the Race Tins (regular and Bigfoot), the Bensu cars (aka OEM Bullets), possibly a few other types of cars and most likely hop-up parts/kits, tires, wheels, bodies, etc for the Race Tins. I probably will be selling them through one of the computer parts web sites that I work for.

:ö: kitty, that's cool!, but the most important thing "for me", is a porportional steering, i mean you can control the steering on how much angle your tires to turn, which varies the car turn radius, so you can negotiate well on corners or turns, i believe that magnetic steering function is like an electric motor but the difference is, that instead of the usual electric motor, you have placed something(a turn limiter) to prevent it from revolving such a usual e-motor does and keeping it from a fixed angle, and to make it possible to turn from left to right, is you just reverse the polarity (similar to reverse funtion on an ESC) to make the motor, in your case, a steering magnet to move from left to right!, one more thing, i understand that Auldey race tin have single speed only?!.. not good for off-road IMO, may result for loss of traction or wheel spin that is!, i didn't mean to insult or offend you kitty, actually that is just my own opinion or that's just how i see an Auldey race tin, please correct me if i'm wrong, but your web site is really cool;) plus the feature that can translate it to English?! nice job! ;) , have you heard of Mini-z by Kyosho?.. they function like a 1/10R/C but it's a 1/24scale cars! that thing was my first choice for my Mini-Monster Truck project but there are certain a problems encountered, so as to achieve a 1/10rc functionality/driveabilty, i've installed a.. what else? a 1/10 electronics on a 1/32scale Monster Truck by Tamiya!:D -æ

killer_d76, I remember reading about a mod someone did to get around the proportional steering problem. I don't know how well it worked but he installed some sort of switching relay on the controller and a knob. So small knob turns sent short quick signals to the car to make it only steer a little bit, and large turns made it turn more. I think it might end up being easier to install micro servos and such though! :)
killer_d76
07-30-2002, 07:58 PM
:ö: yup! your right, it would be much easier (as for me) to install a servo rather than placing a switching relay ( i'm not that good when it comes to electronics ;) ), hey guess what? yesterday i was walking around the Mall to do some shopping and to my surprise, Auldey race tin (cars) and those little monster truck(rodkapong) are available here and it's everywhere!!! do you think it's cheap for $2.oo for the truck, and $4.50 for the race tin cars?!, isn't that, those little truck are supposed to be radio controlled?, i mean, no wires should be sticking out of at the back of the truck to your controller? and the truck should have it's own power supply, rather than having it powered by your controller thru wires?.. i am just confused  -æ

You could have pulled two rear end assemblies from another mini car. Setup some sort of aluminum chassis and attached it with rods, ala Clodbuster.
Or even made some sort of belt driven setup like the HPI car. That would have been strange.
www.carmoworld.com has a small bigfoot truck, not too fast but it is 4wd. Could be modified pretty well.

I'm so happy I found this forum, I am 95% done with my mini mt, it is 18 scale, it is 4wd and has 4 wheel steering, it uses dual motors (mounted at each axel) and it has 4 touring car shocks (I need to find some softer springs in the future). The truck is mostly made out of 1/8 inch thick lexan, the chasis is made like a ladder chasis with two vertical sheets of lexan, the whole thing is stiffend by 1/8 inch thick fiberglass. The car also has dual ball diffs (I used brp diffs) and on them I mounted some tamyia tires, for now I am using 2 small (probably 180 sized) electric motors, from old toy cars, if I'm happy with the performance I will get a mini z or micro rs4 motor. Now all I have to do is solder the motor wires and do some radio checks. Btw I am using a six cell AA 1650mah batt, I have no digi camera but I will try to scan some pictures of the finished product.

:ö: wow that's cool histuff II!, can i ask how do you make the steering work?, being 4wd that is!, do you make it steer like those big earth movers?, like it has a joint in the middle and bend the whole body to left to make it steer towards left?,.. i have another project but it's still on the drawing board, a 4wd Trophy Truck ( a 1/32 copy and inspired by Ivan Stewart most Exotic Trophy Truck!) and to steer the front wheels, i have copied and modified the universal joint used on a 1/82 4wd Hummer!! i'm not kidding man, and you read it right it's 1/82 and it's 4WD!!! the motor he used is the same size as the electric motor used on pagers and cellphone as a vibrator, check it out at this site, http://www.micmo.de .. and you'll see lots of off-road "micro" trucks and submarine even, which is just slightly bigger than your finger! this German guys are great! and the controls are amazing! they are using a protional /standard size stick type FM radio transmitter! ( i seem to sound like the Guy on a Home TV shopping?! :D ) , but on my project trophy truck, i'll use a handmade 20trurn 130size motor, an Futaba MC330CR,a Futaba Mini-servo and 6pcs. batteries, same size as the batts used on a wireless phone!, and a shredder AM micro RX!, man i'm so excited with this project, and give it a test on the track i made for my first truck!, well if you'll ask about my first truck, it's great!, i've just upgraded my old electronics to a Futaba MC230CR (hehehe looks better than the old one :D) and a 6 pcs. wireless phone batteries, and a homemade 30turn 130size motor on a ballbearing can, with neodydium magnets(?) and boy with that motor! this thing is fast! though not as fast as Mini-Z or the Micro RS4, but compared with the speed (of the truck)using stock motor, this thing is 20x faster! but greatly reduced my runtime to 10 minutes only!, but i always have another freshly charged battery as back-up to continue terrorizing our backyard!! :D !! hey good luck on your project too! ;) -æ

Oops. I forgot that I'd posted in this thread and just stumbled across it again.
killer_d76: If those prices are in US dollars, that's a really good price! Check out the bulletin board at rodkrapong/CarMoWorld (same place). There are tons of pinoy guys on there and talk about a lot of mods. There's also an Auldey BBS on Yahoo that's mostly in Tagalog.
No offense taken by your first post, bro. Lack of propo sucks but the mod I mentioned is more for looks and fun and not racing or real bashing. You can take parts off the 1:10 Auldey to use on them and make them fully proportional, though. And they're pretty inexpensive where you are. There should be a few hops in Manila that sell Auldey stuff. Oh yeah, also check out 9turbo.com (http://www.9turbo.com) and Talingchan Circuit (http://www.geocities.com/talingchan_circuit/Html/taling01.html) for even more stuff. They're both in east Asia and are great guys. You guys over there can get lots of really cool stuff cheap!

Hey I saw that truck on the wild hobbies website.

It looks like PTI Racing will be producing Dave's truck as a kit. Dave must have hooked up with them. Apparently the news was released at the Visions Hobby show in vegas this past weekend.
I have that issue of XRC it was in and it is awsome. Major articulation. B3 buggy shocks and cantilever suspension. Wayyyyyyy coooool!

iam working on making a 1/18th MT like in that RC racer mag. But iam using aluminum for the chassis and probably will use dual motors and oil filled micro shocks if they dont cost to much. So far i have spent 8 bucks on it since i had the TC3 stuff already. I got the wheels, need tires. Iam gona use a Dakota body. I really just need to get a micro ESC and figure out how i wana set up the steering.
