Well if you just have a backyard basher, I personally wouldn't spend a lot on one. If you are actually planning to race people who spend hundreds on after stock parts, you may want a better performance ESC. I trust Futuba, so I would get that one if I had extra cash to burn.

I would also say get the Futaba. The XL1 is waaaaaay too bulky, the Runner doesn't have an on/off switch and I don't know anything about the Airtronics.

I had the Futaba MC230CR not long ago in my Tamiya. It's a pretty good value for that price-range.. Rated at 20+ turns, you can probably safely use a Peak Jaguar 21turn found at Tower... so there's SOME room to grow with it.

At the very least, it's a real small ESC and worthy of racing in stock class.

If your 2nd-basher car doesn't have a radio, then it'd be a good opportunity to get the Pistol-Grip/MC230CR bundle from Futaba.. $79 for both, which IMO is a nice savings.

If just getting the MC230CR alone, I occasionally see someone on eBay selling it for $45 + $5 US shipping. The guy's padding his shipping costs (he actually sends it out cheaply first class - 80cents) and the ESC is new, but not a boxed retail version. Probably pulled from the bundle kit.

I agree, get the Futaba MC230CR. It has forward, reverse plus brakes, you can also lock out reverse and just use the brakes when racing. Plus its tiny and stays cool. I have 2 of these and think there a good value for the features you get.

i have the futaba. be careful about the load and motor or it will burn up. it happened twice to me and was replaced but now that i run it in my micro rs4 no problems. beware of cheap rtr electrics. its well worth it to buy a good rtr or a kit.
