Im in the market for a new RC right now and have a few questions. Well right now i have a traxxas tmaxx and want something new. I thought about a terra crusher but its kinda the same thing that i have. Right now im thinking about a ofna 1/8 scale buggy and have some questions.
- How well do they go through grass and just back yard and park bashing??
- about how fast?

well it depends on which ofna buggy you are talking about.... OFNA makes around 6 1/8 scale buggies (ball park estimate) and there are bashing style buggies like the GT LX and the MBX. if you plan on racing look at the hyper 7 or the 9.5... the hyper 7 has a pro version as well... as far as performance goes, 1/8 scale buggies are known as the formula 1 cars of R/C.... they go up to 50mph and get there the fastest out of any other nitro vehicle... check out www.ofna.com for more info...

And as for your bashing question.. Any car is gonna run better on a smoother surface
I race my Inferno on a hard packed dirt track, and it runs real well (when it ain`t busted). Out side in the yard, it doesn`t run *AS* well, but still runs good.

It should do just fine for that. My friends Nitro Demon (1/8 buggy based ST) hasn't gotten stuck anywhere we've run it including some rather thick grass and weeds that were taller than the truck in some places. I want a RTR GT LX or MBX. :) I'd say 1/8 on road is closer to the F1 of rc, but 1/8 buggies seem much cooler to me.

My question is why in the heck are 1/8 scale buggies so damn expensive. I mean, 1/10th scale is bad enough, but I was looking into getting a nice 1/8th scale buggy, and as soon as I priced a few, I quickly changed my mind.
All I could say was "YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING!"
Some 1/8th scale buggies even rival my R/C Helicopter addication in cost. Thats just wrong if you ask me. I can sort of understand why Heli's are so expensive, but off road buggies? Come on people.

There is always the Duratrax Axis. I have one and its AWSOME. I have no clue whats so ever why some people refer to duratrax as "duracrap" I have runy buggy sooooo very hard and it still runs smooth. Its fast, durable, fun factor is off the charts. The only complaint i have is the steering, takes plenty room to steer but if ur like me i just wip it around in a dohnut action (hit the throttle spin the tires so it get the way i want it to ponit lol:) Anyways its RTR for like $380 and you dont have to worry about breaking to much. Its not a race buggy but it is fast and really fun. I have never run the stock engine so i cant comment on that but i use a .21 hyper which is awsome. hope u look into that. Cya

1/10 to 1/8 cost increases I think can be mainly attributed to the complexity, and the just brute heavey duty everythinhg on them..
Sit both of them together and you`ll see the 1/8th is just built alot heavier..
tht and the setup costs are alot higher, with fuel, glowplugs, starter box...
but then, looking at it that way, if you go pro on electric, you`ll probably spend just as much on chargers, batteries, dischargers, lil black boxes, motors, esc`s...

Yeah, everything in 1/8 is physically bigger. It makes sense than more manufacturing materials=bigger price I suppose but that still does not explain why a Kanai Edition costs 750 bucks. I do think that some of the cheaper race oriented buggies are priced quite reasonably though. Heh, yeah TC3Racer, I'm not saying you were wrong or anything. :)

they charge what the market will bear, they couldn't charge $750 if nobody would pay that much...basic supply and demand....add that to the fact the us dolla is worth half what it used to be relative to the yen (= prices doubled) and that there are a lot of people between here and tokyo that need their cut (the great hobbico/great planes empire)...
with that said, i paid less than $150 shipped for my inferno, and i think it could hang with anything out there with the right engine and driver...the parts are cheaper too...if you want a laugh, take a look at the 7.5 kanai 2 parts list sometime and tell me how many parts start with a "BS" (burns, R.I.P.)...

Thats funny, because I find things on ebay more and more expensive everyday. Its like people are willing to pay more for things, just to raise there buyer / seller rating.
Just by going to tower hobbies, or other on line hobby shops, I more than often find things cheaper than they are on ebay.
This isnt always the case, but about 75% of the time it is.

yeah i made it sound easy...you will have to sift through 20 pages of freshly listed "TMAXXX ALL ALUMENIEM NIRTO HPI SERPANT" crap every day, but there are some deals out there if you look hard enough (and are fast enough)...

just don't forget the Golden Rule:
NEVER PAY MORE THAN RETAIL
i paid less for that 959 than i did for my rc10gt, hell i paid less for it than my old TL01 with am radio and bearing kit...not bad for a toy i have wanted for 10 years
