Hi everyone,

My youngest son has wanted the Beaver ever since he saw a picture of it. He is transitioning up from a Pico Stik and Merlin. Placed his order with the LHS 2 months ago. We have it in our hands today.

The fuselage is huge, I can fit my whole hand and part of my wrist in the electronics compartment. It is all white and has stickers for the windows and stripes, which is nice for all of you that like to paint you own colors. The extra weight should not be a problem with the supplied 370 motor.

I will let you know how it is after we get it together.

Hi Dale,

I was looking at the Beaver as well. Looks like a neat airplane. I have the cub which is a bit slower and I can fly in the front yard. Have you thought about putting ailerons on it? What about cargo drop like little men with parachutes? I wonder how fast it will be with the 370 on there. I just put the Zero up and it's pretty darn quick for it's size. You mean you don't let your son fly Mister Bones? And why not? I don't have any kids so my wife does the crashing for me. Prefect reason for me to buy a new plane! Let me know how she flys.

Hey Aobid,

I did not expect the Beaver to show up until later this month. I am trying to get Bones configured right and of course the boy wants to get Beaver going. I don't think either of them are ready for Bones just yet, but they are always welcome to fly anything I have. Their job schedules kept them from being able to go with me during the first test flights.

I believe that the Beaver is going to be very popular for aerial photography, parachuting men, and floats, just because it is overpowered and has such a large cargo area. I am going out on a limb saying that, since I have not even flown it yet, but going by experience I think that will be the case. Also, those that were selected as test pilots have stated that they could not fly level at full throttle without the wings starting to flutter. One guy is already using it with floats. The Beaver would probably fly just fine with a 280.

I am excited because he is. He waited quite a while for it.

PS...Just noticed that Horizon has published a fix for the wing flutter using tape...Hmmm. They are also recommending swapping the 10x8 prop for a 11x4.7 for more realistic flight performance. Of course, you don't purchase this aircraft for speed, but you have a zero, same motor and prop so you know what that combo will do.

Regards,
Dale

My Beaver flies just fine a full throttle with out the wings fluttering. The Beaver is very similar to the Cub but it has a lot more power. Yes it would fly fine on the 280 but the 370 is a perfect match. Keep in mind that the Beaver has a thin foam high lift, undercambered wing. It is designed for scale like flying not for wringing it out with high speed dives or loops. Granted I have done loops and rudder rolls with mine and the wing fluttered a little bit. It was not until I flew it inverted that the wing started to really shake alot. As I mentioned before, it was not made to fly inverted or to be aerobatic and I will never try to fly it inverted again. I have other planes for that type of flying.

As far as the floats go....... FUN!!!!!!! If you are near water you need to get some! I have been hand launching mine in my yard and landing in my pool. It's only a 24 foot above ground pool with a 6-8 inch lip that I need to fly over, so ROW has yet to be achieved. In the lake however ROW is a different story. Sweet :D

Will Shep has floats for the Tigermoth, and Beaver for a $15 introprice. He also has larger ones. The Floats are not seen on his web site yet but they should be there after the weekend. See mine below Call him at the # listed at the web site to order them. BTW the Floats come with CF rod spreaders and hardware.

Anyway don't worry about the wing flutter bit unless you really plan on beating on the plane and in that case get an nice aerobatic model. Enjoy JT http://www.*************/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=390216

If you place " ************* " in place of the astericks you may see the photo.

This is so funny in an annoying sort of way. If there are no provisions at this site for storing a photo why not let someone else host it?
I will try it again
Place " rc groups . com " but all together in place of the astricks.

Is that one of those "can't take the competition" lines? This forum *used* to allow links to E-Zone and such.

It's really a shame, Dave. There isn't much activity here as is, and consequently getting help and advice isn't easy (especially for beginner pilots). I'm surprised RCZone isn't doing everything possible to help flyers, particularly newbies, find as much advice and info as they can, regardless of which site hosts it. I really can't think of any good excuse for that.

And just in case the theory is that members will be lost... I've seen many a post of former participants in this forum who stopped visiting simply because of these "politics". As a newbie, I sought advice both here and at E-Zone and got help from both (admittedly far more from the latter site, though). Now, I do my best to pass along advice to newbies here, but I'm one of a relative few.

I'm sorry to see it's come to this. My apologies to anyone offended by my statements, but it's about time someone speak up. This hobby needs its members to stick together, not block each other out. Apparently we've forgotten that...
