Gee, I was gonna ask about what the address was Kartrun. Thanks! Can't wait! I'll have a new Touring car to test out there! I broke down and bought a Tamiya 414M2. Should get it this Friday! :D :D Anyways, I've always wanted a 414 since I got back into RC last year. Well I finally get to have one! I'm planning on goin to the TCS race up in Maryland on the 28th. So this will give Chris Cash a good lead in the points race. Maybe, if I go that is... :D Anyways, can't wait for the new track to open!!! Oh yeah, speaking of which, anyone have the phone number oh that other track in Windel or whatever it is? They were suppose to have a race this Sunday, but I wanted to know if it was for Oval only or TC's also. Take it easy guys...

Thanks Henry. I called them Ron. They are only racing Oval this Sunday. 2 weeks later at Wendell they'll have the Road Course. So that's when I'll be goin. But I'm gonna try and head out there tomorrow to see what's goin on and scout the area out for us. Was hoping to get some run time with my 414. But that'll have to wait til next weekend when I bring it up to Chapel Hill. Anyways, will call you tomorrow Ron.....

Hey, the old thread is dead!! Long live this new one!!
Anyhow,, I scoped out Jimmy's new ride today,,, man is it a really nice looking car. If that was all it took to win,,, game over. BUT,,, now we'll have to see how it works!!! Hope you got small electronics for it,, not much room on that chassis dude!!
See ya'll later,,, oh Jimmy, no Crystals!??! I dunno, go figure,,,,
JimmyMac
07-08-2002, 11:32 PM
No Crystals? What do you mean no Crystals! I said Crystals! Didn't I say Crystals! You don't need no stinking Crystals! I need stinking Crystals! Son of a Gee haawwwd! Hmmmmmmmm Hey Ron, I have room for all my electronics on the lower deck beleive it or not. But I might go ahead and toss the receiver up onto of my servo for uhh insurance, glitching insurance that is. I dunno, I'll have to decide tonight.
Anyways, I'll be racing a brand new Tamiya car at Chapel Hill this Sunday in both Mod and Stock class. I have to get used to this new car and learn to set it up. So maybe Chris can get a good lead on me in Mod. Anyways, I'll end up missing the Chapel Hill race on the 28th because I'll be up in Maryland for the TCS race. So Chris can get a good lead on me! But we'll see. This new car might turn out to be pretty good! But I'll have my modded TC3 standing by just in case... good ole reliable! (except these past couple races :D )
Anyways, got some new battery connectors. Gotta put them on! L8Rz....

Okay, I just got my parts in from Tower today for my Tamiya car. Had to order a body and some hard to find parts. I'll post pictures whenever I'm done painting my "Super" Modena Ferarri. Yeah, it's not a Stratus (but I do have one for it 2.0) But its the Tamiya Body of choice for racing in the TCS. And as you know, I have to have "almost" everything made by Tamiya in order to race in the TCS. Anyways, gotta go finish up my "kit." I'll post pictures later.

p.s. the car is beefier than my TC3 :p
and I have spare parts too. :p

It looks like we might have some rain this Sunday. I still haven't touched my car since the last race, but I'm gonna get on it tonight. I'll be there.
Gonzo-
P.S. Jimmy is this a F1 car that you are gonna run or a sedan?
JimmyMac
07-11-2002, 07:47 PM
It's a Sedan. Basically the car that won the ISTC World Championship Race. Well actually they are coming out with a World Championship edition. But it's about the same car none-the-less. Few changes here and there. But it's nice. Mine will run in both Mod and Stock. But I have my TC3 as back up. Hey Tarheel, you goin to the TCS in two weeks? Damn, forgot to get ahold of Billy! Sorry, been busy with work and my Grandfather being in the Hospitol since Saturday. I'll have to bring one of my mod motors for him to run. Hmmmm, got just the one too. Anyways, car is almost done. It's been slow. But the shocks are done. Now the body and some finalizing on my wiring. Then all set. Well, I'll see yall Sunday. Gonna go nap or something. L8Rz

-you might see 2 414M2's there.

Hey, we gotta be careful not to show up that EVO 2 to bad, it is a tamiya after all. I think a good showing would be the 3 of us placing first, second and third:D
If its not raining, I will try to make it. At the very least, I want to test drive the car at speed.

Jimmy,
As much as I would like to I doubt that I will make the tamiya race in Md. I thought that I would be free that weekend but now it looks like I will be baby sitting. Besides I only have the one Tamiya car and if I went my son would not be able to do anything but watch. I hope you do well though and I really wish I could go. Any idea how long a drive it is up there?
Interceptor I appreciate that you dont want to make the Evo look bad, unfortunately I will probaly do that well enough on my own. I hope I get there early enough to practice some because I want to try my foams out before the race and see how they do.
See yall sunday, hope it dosen't rain,

07-12-2002, 11:17 AM
lol, just joking with ya Tarheel, I am so out of practice I am afraid I'll total my car. What kind of barriers do they use there?
Hey, Maybe we can get this new track to host a TCS race next year... just a thought.
tarheelquality
07-12-2002, 01:05 PM
They are using corrugated pipe barriers.
A TCS race would be great! There is not a single one in the south region while over 50% of them are in California! I just hate that the new track will be racing Saturdays because that kills my chances of racing, I work every Sat. Oh well, this will only be my 2nd this year anyway.
BTW, does anybody that is going to be there Sunday have some extra .4 pitch pinions ? I have not had a chance to get any and I do not know if what I have now is too big, too small, or what for what I am running. So if you might be able to help me out let me know.
See ya,

I'll be using 64pitch spur and pinions in my 414. Was gonna order some .4 pinions, but haven't found any small enough that I want for my turn motor (8x2). I think that would come out to like 30 or 31 pinion with 120 spur. I think. Not sure on the spur. 414 comes with 3 different ones anyways.
PVC pipe for inner barriers one wood for outside barriers. Turns usually have foam ends on them. As for this track hosting a TCS race. I highly doubt it. Although it would be nice. You mainly see these races where they normally sell Tamiya cars and parts. I don't really see that here. AE and Losi dominate here. The place up in Maryland has classes that have Tamiya only cars. So it's a nowonder why the get to host a TCS race. Things could change though if they wanted here. I'd race! Why doesn't Florida get one? Or have they?
Anyways, I gotta go paint a body. I probably won't come out good. But it's something. I might go back to another sceme. I think Superman might be retiring. For now.
Well take it easy guys. I don't see rain in my forecast for Sunday. So things look good. Ron, ever get ahold of Chris P and Chris J and see whos gonna take Steve D? I'll be heading up alone I guess. Don't forget to bring YOUR own battery this time! :p See yall there!

Hey, if you want to try it,, find Don Hill and tell him that you'd rather run TC on Sundays. This Sat. stuff isn't written in stone yet, and I for one would rather have it on Sun. like we've been doing.

Got back from my 12 hour shift at work. Sucks. Oh well. Just more money for TCS. Yeah, bring a damn Battery Ron! I'll be using mine! :p Anyhow, I'll see you guys out there. My 414 body is done. It's the same paint job I used for my carpet races. My XXX-S paint job. I Charlie might have that body that looks like it. Metallic Green/Blue/Red. It's simple and easy. Now I just have to finish up one or two more batteries. About 3-4 motors to rebuild. And some touching up on my 414. Also to fix up my TC3 for back up. And I won't beable to clean up my "sold" TC3 as much as I would have liked to. Sorry Kartrun. But I'll bring it. Would liked to have cleaned it up really nice for the guy. But it's still good to go. Interceptor, if you go tomorrow, you should race both Mod and Stock! This way you won't be sitting around all day with nothing to do! Gonna try and make it to the track by 11. Well let me stop babbling. Gotta wash up then work on my 414. L8Rz..

Just letting everyone know that High Speed R/C in Chapel Hill has been cancelled for July 14th due to rain. It is dry now but more rain is on the way and we would be fighting a losing battle all day long. Check the web site at chapelhillrc.com for info on the next race.

Okay, Kartrun got some questions for ya if you know or can get the info. Is the next race gonna be at Durham like the Durham website say?(Chapel Hill site doesn't mention this.) Since Durham says they want to follow ROAR rules(somewhat), should we run the 10turn limit for Mod Class along with NO FOAM tires for Asphalt? IS Don the main man for making these decisions? Or am I just gonna get a shrug of the shoulders? I'd just like to see a set rule on these things (if he or whoever wants to follow Roar Rules somewhat ) Yeah, I know we voted. But running 8x2 motors and Foam tires is no way to get you ready for a ROAR race. That and running Trucks with Sedans. They should have a separate class. Sedan Mod. Sedan Stock. Stock Electric (trucks/buggies). Micro. Pan. I guess I'll have to ask Don if there is a race in Wendell this coming Sunday.
I guess it's gonna be Touring Cars this Sunday at Wendell. So I'll be there to test out my 414. Ron you goin? I'll have to find a place to practice this week. I'll be using an older ESC until I get a new one to replace my GM V12xc. Can't deside yet on LRP Quantum Competition (nice and small and programmable!) or Novak TC2 (since I can program it with my Mil Pro charger.) I don't know!!!!!????? Decisions decisions!
Hey Kartrun, that guy still interested in my TC3? When can you or him pick it up? I'll be at Wendell Sunday so how about then? I would have brought it up today to Hungates. But no-one has been online since the rain out. Hmmmmmm Anyways, let me know the deal so I can have it ready. I might can bring it up sometime this week just so that I can check out the Durham place. Let me know.

Kilruf- I think I am just going to go practive at rock hill this weekend. I see from the pics on their website that they changed there track to the exact same lay out as Mooresville had. Not sure if I am happy about that, they had a faster track layout before, and I'm not so sure about these one ways. Guess I'll just have to drive easy. You think that the one ways will be a hinderance in MD?

I stopped by the site for the new Highspeed R/C track on Sunday. I think it's gonna be nice. The pix on the website doesn't do it justice... it's gonna be big. But as usual, I have some issues and questions. Let's discuss them, shall we?
It's not hard to find. You can see it from 70 bypass and they have basically built an exit right up to it. I hope trucker's CB radios will not cause glitching problems. The nearby neighborhood leaves something to be desired, but I don't foresee this as a problem.
If anyone has every been to Wheels Family Fun Park it is just like you would imagine it. A huge chunk of land with a couple of large buildings on it with Putt-Putt, batting cages, go cart track, and a roller rink. It is a little run-down. At least from what I could see from the outside. The first thing I noticed is there are no posted hours... anywhere... period. We walked around Sunday morning and REALLY couldn't tell if the place has been open for a year. It has an abandoned look to it and there wasn't any sign to tell us different.
The main building has video games, snack bar, indoor batting cages, and a huge gerbil cage for the kiddies. Right behind that is a outdoor Putt-Putt course and right behind that will be the track. Right now it is just like the picture on the website, a large concrete area that is about as big as the current track. Off to one side is the funkiest basketball court you've ever seen. It's call The Pepsi Bankshot Challenge. You have to see it to understand. The outdoor batting cage is off to the side of same building.
As you walk up the hill and through the parking lot is the go cart track. There is a covered "pit area" for the carts. This track would be GREAT for the Nitro Onroad cars to run on if there could be a driver's tower built on top of the pits. Wow, now THAT would be a race.
Further up the hill is the other building with the roller rink inside and in the middle of the parking lot is an abandoned carwash.
Between the main building and in front of the go cart track is a huge picnic shed. This will be our pit area. There are a few table under there now, but I think they plan on building some more. I forgot to look and see if there was A/C power there. I sure hope so. I don't see them letting us pull our vehicles under there so we'll either need A/C power or it's gonna be a BYOB (bring your own battery). Those of you who have trailers may have issues, but the parking lot seems large enough. However, you'll be pretty far from the action.
The actual race area has an interesting slope to it. It's kinda like a sloped bowl. I'm sure it's for water control, but it may make for some strange off-camber turns if it's not leveled out during the paving process.
I hope they will bring some bleachers over to sit and watch the racing. I didn't see any real good place to spectate from and I like to watch after I destroy my car for the day.
Some issues:
1) No nearby hobby shop. Not a REAL big deal, Stoney Point doesn't have one either. We'll deal with it.
2) Saturday races. I don't think so. This is what keep Chapel Hill UNIQUE. Other tracks are doing the Saturday thing... don't make us choose. (see my long post on the Rosewood forum for MUCH more on this issue)
3) Kids. If they aren't going to race, they shouldn't be around. Don't try to bring them and expect them to stay happy all day at Wheels. Sure, bring them for a while, but plan to have your wife/husband pick them up after a few hours. They could get hurt or I'll kill them if they are in my face every five seconds. I don't mind showing them a few things if they are trying to get into racing, but I have other things to do and don't want them hanging around asking alot of dumb questions all day. Sorry about the rant... don't string me up for it.
4) CB radios on the highway. May be an issue or it may not we'll see, but I've had some powerful CBs in my time and I'm sure I could cause a R/C car to slam to it's death.
5) Starting with a new electric-one-week-nitro-another-week format from the get go. I have no plans to start that format this season because I race BOTH nitro and electric. Let's keep the format we have, or end the season and start new. I'm working hard to stay in the top-ten in points and refuse to let one goal go to sacrifice the other and have to race every week at the same track to do it.
I think many of the positives will out-weigh these little flaws. I also hope that all of the local track owners will have the smarts to not try and pull the rug out from under each other and work together. We have all the makings for a rip-roaring year of R/C racing, let's not screw it up by not looking at the big picture and notice that we can be loyal to many different tracks, but not all at the same time.
I'm going to stop by there on Wed. to see how the paving is going. Don had said it was scheduled for then. As for how long it will take to get up and running? Who knows, but I don't see it being ready in two weeks and I don't see it taking two months either. Prove me wrong.
Later dooooooods,
G-
JR in NC
07-16-2002, 11:04 AM
Having just checked out Don"s web site he now has racing scheduled for Sunday the 28th for electrics and the following Sunday for Nitros.
I like the rest of you would like to race on the alternate weekends, but I'm not exactly sure where to go. Something else that occurs to me that except for a few weeks the winters in NC are not exactly the coldest.
Now the rookie will show in me. Outside temp wise when does it become ill advised to run an electric TC.
Sandhills is only a little over an hour from the house and if they change to an indoor TC track I'll try to support them. I don't know where Rosewood is exactly, but Goldsboro not that far away either.
Gonzo, your right the track owners need to get together and form some kind of loose alliance or else everyone will lose.
I also have had security issues with the the location of Wheels and have voiced them to Don. I'm not sure if he read what I wrote or chose to ignore it, having worked in that area some years ago it is not like the Mall parking lot on Sunday afternoon.
Stay cool JR

What is going on with the schedule? You have r/c speedway site saying the next race is at wheels on the 28th with practice on the 25th& 26th then Chapel Hill's site is showing the next race at University Mall on the 28th. Plus now the points season is ending in Sept instead of Oct. Does that mean they plan on racing in Chapel Hill till Sept. ? Or are they going to go head and switch to Wheels? If anyone knows the straight answer please let us know.
P.S. Have yall seen the new race cost? $12 first class $6 each additional class and no mention of discounts for kids.:(

Yes,i know the answers but i'm not quick to say without permission from Chris,Will,Tom or Don about whats going on but let me say everyone take a deep breathe cause EVERYTHING is going to work out just fine i promise. The new track will be very awesome and yes,we'll get to finish our season at chapel hill a little early but look at it like this...we'll get our trophies now PLUS have a brand new incredible track to run on the rest of the season. If you guys keep looking for the negative in this you will find it and you WILL sink this new track.Lets all be grateful someone cares about r/c racing so much(and us for that matter)that he has put ALOT of time AND money into this to make it all happen.I watched the best track and hobby shop this area has ever had go bust and i be damned if i'm going to sit by and watch this one go bust. There WILL be an onsite hobby shop and the pavers are going to make sure the track is smooth....this has already been worked out.I don't know about you guys but i am so damn excited about this track i can't stand it......the possibilities are endless i promise.I love you guys to death..you're such an awesome group to race with but lets all take a step back and realize everything will work out for the best. The owner of the track wants it to be everything you guys want and is not going to stop till it is that. And you guys can take that to the bank ;)

Hey,
I wasn't being negative, I am happy either way. I just want to know where to show up at on the 28th. I am definitely looking forward to the new track and I really think there are nothing but positives here including the location. People will always find little things to nitpic that is just how things are, I think this will be great though. It is not as if Wheels is a fly by night sort of place they have been in buisness about 20 years that I know of. I am definitely looking forward to being able to practice on other days besides race day because I do not have anywhere else to run my on road car. Also my coment on the price was before I relized that we were going to 3 heats and a main that is a good deal compared to now.
Having fun,

Hey... don't get me wrong, I'm just as excited (maybe more) than you are, Kartrun! I look forward to it. However , these are issues that have not been brought up and I'm just looking for confirmation that we all get started on the right foot. First impressions are everything and a looney-tunes first race will send some racers packing. Just look at how many racers were at the first Chapel Hill race. Nearly 100 I believe, now we are lucky to have 60. Where did they all go? They got tired of sitting around watching grass grow while many heats and mains run either only ONE driver or we had 20-ish minutes between races/heats. We all know the club is busting their asses for us... don't remind us of that... and things sometimes are not within their control. BUT, and I say this with alot of reserve, we are also laughing our heads off at the way a typical Sunday runs. A nine hour day to run ONE qualifier and the main for 60-ish people. Gimmie a friggin' break.
Look--- before you think I'm hating you guys for the way you run a race, DON'T. You've got growing pains. We all can see that. Just let us worry and voice our concerns about it and you keep us informed to the goings-on about progress. Maybe pass some of this on to the club members like Tom and Don. They NEED to hear this. We may cover ground that y'all have already thought of, but we don't know that so I'm gonna bring them up. Why? Because nobody is telling us what's happening.
Now with all that said let me say this. And this goes back to my original issues: I'd like to see the format stay the same (ie: one race day for all events) until some early end of the season date can be established and agreed on by the orginizers AND racers. Why, you ask? MONEY! for starters. Running on two weekends will mean that if I'm going to stay in the hunt for points champ (which I don't think I can get) It will now cost me $12/week ($48/month) to stay in. Now that's up from the new season starting higher rate from last year (which I admit was a little low last year) of $15 every two weeks or $30/month. That, my friends is a 62% increase that I'm not willing to shell out. Let's add that to the 150% increase for a two-class run from last season and you get a 212% increase in MY COST just to race (well break really) from the cost less than one year ago. Sorry, but no thanks. Not unless you are going to do better than a $5 GC for beating 10-15 other racers OR can at least run it like a real race. I can also say that secondly you have now committed me to the entire rest of the summer racing every weekend and I won't let you do that. I am going to want to race at other tracks or sometimes not at all, but you have alot of us tied up in a points race and in mid-season going to change all the rules.
Let's end the points race now or in the next race or two. Make the first race at the new track a Dash-For-The-Cash (not Chris Cash) and THEN setup a new points format for the remainder of the season. I feel y'all are leaving drivers out of some of the deceisions that may well be better for us to decide or at least give some input to. Best I can remember we have talked only briefly about this at two driver's meetings and one of those was Father's Day where there were only about 30 drivers there. How can you get a feel for what WE want that way?
This is a hobby... it's supposed to be fun, right? I'm just asking questions that need to be adressed in order to see that I stay in this hobby to keep it fun and not to just see people walk away with my money and give me very little in return. I don't MIND losing it, I just don't want to GIVE it away.

O.K. Gonzo. I heard that crack about the dash for Chris Cash. You are a funny guy. Almost as funny as the post on the old Chapel Hill board. You guys will enjoy the new track. I think Don will try to do what is right for all the racers. We have just 2 more races with the old schedule to finish out the points and then he will go to the split format. With a little patience, we will have a great place to race. See you guys there.

Damnnn this sucks... haha. I will miss the race on the 28th, and will make it for the last points race. I guess Chris can have the trophy now! LoL:D Man.. missing this last race will kill me!! Oh well, it was fun. Gotta run that TCS race though. Sounds like good news to me! Practice sounds cool also. I guess practice might open up before the race. Might just head up there for Friday practice next week to get some runtime in and check it out. Well let me head out. I'll post more later. Maybe a pic of my car. I dunno yet. OH yeah.... RON, there will be a Trophy Race up at Virginia Beach on August 3rd. Trophies might be tiny. But it'll be fun. Try and see if you can get that Saturday off. Then you can whoop up on some kids again. :p >stab stab poke poke< ;) Anyways, chat with all L8Rz.....

Gonzo you knothead,, a few posts above your last one says that there will be 2 more races at the Mall, and after the second one is over,, it's trophy time,, like that day. Then the move to the new track and the new schedule of electrics one week, and nitro the next.
I for one predict right here and now that when the move occures, the nitro guys will still have less runs during the day than the electric guys. Why? 'cause they never seem to get to the line when they're supposed to!!! LOLOL Hell, the electric classes might even be able to go 4 heats and a main without all the time consuming nitro guys warming up their engines for 10 minutes before a race,,, Every heat race, every main, every different class, every single week!!!
Anyhow, Jimmy, there's a crytal in there too. Go figure!!!AND don't forget,,, your going to drop your 2 worset weeks for the points, so if you don't run, you'll drop zero points while someone who was there every week will drop points.
Remember, it ain't over til it's over.:D

Har har, I dunno, I think Chris lost alot of points due to motor problems. Springs breaking. tabs breaking. Backwards endbells. I think you take motor tweaking alittle too far! :p hehe, just playing with ya Kartrun. Can't wait til you get your stuff up and running. Wouldn't mind trying them out. Maybe I can get a Factory tuned one eh? Can you do 19turn motors? I have a trophy race coming up August 3rd. Hmmmm that or a very mind mod... like 14 or 15 turn.... hmmmmm do they even make those in hand wound versions??? Hmmm I'll have to research that. About the car, if they have practice next Friday at Durham, I can bring it then. Of if someone will be at Wendell this Sunday, I can pass it along.
Oh yeah, who is this Pro Driver(s) that will be doin this "Clinic" deal? Just curious. Anyways, uhh I guess I'll get goin. I'm thinking of goin to Roar rules and running 10 turn limit. You gonna chip in on that or gonna run lower mods? Looking at how "tight" this track will be (due to it's narrowness.) A 10 single may be a good choice for this track. That is if it's not tooo tight for it. I dunno... find that out later... Take care.....

Brad, Don't you ever sleep?! Your worse than me but I have a 20 month old, what's your excuse?
I think the 10 turn limit is a good idea. This is supposed to be getting you ready for other races and you sure won't run 8 and 9 turn at a regional or national. Besides, I have a really hot 10t to try!:D
Kartrun, you might want to look at getting roar certified because as of right now your Ti/D4 combo is illegal for roar comp. You can not mix and match arms, endbells, and cans according to the rules, But as a oem if you certify with roar then you will be legal to run your combo at Roar events.
Hey are the new fees going to start with the last two races on the old schedule? Or are they going to wait for the new schedule? $12 for 3 heats and a main is not bad but for one heat and a main that is kind of steep. Are under 12 still free?
I am going to try to go out to Wheels today at lunch to see how the paving is going and check out the skate park for my son (and for my stampede!). I will let yall know how it is going.

Buddy and I just got back from the new site. We went about 1:30 Wed. afternoon. They didn't do much today, but did get the two planters/islands with the trees torn out. I'm guessing it just got too damn hot to work. Maybe I had asperations of seeing it near completion, I think I'm fooling myself to think a big job like that can get done in one afternoon. I'm an idiot.
Anyway, I didn't see any A/C power outlets under the shed sooooooo if we don't have power by the first race I'm going to bring my 'panel disconnect' and be able to tie-in to the breaker panel that IS there for the florescent light that are under there. No big deal- I used to have to do it all the time with my sound business. That would be enough to power just about everyone there. About 60 Amps or so.
What's the plan for the P.A. stsyem? I talked briefly with Don about it at the last race and made him promise to not buy anything without first consulting me. It's just that THAT'S what I do... I do sound! It would be a waste to have a resource like me not get exploited so that it can be done right the first time and everyone can hear what they need to hear... clearly. I offer my services and will work for cheap... or for entry fee waivers to make damn sure it gets done properly. Help me to help you.\

Oh, e-mail on the way Jimmy.
By the way,, if this place is gonna have new ashphalt,,, does anyone have any idea as to what we need for tires?? And I think we should be running by the ROAR rules and NO foams on ashphalt, and the 10 turn limit.

I agree on Roar rules too. I would make it more even for those less fortunate than me. :p LoL Just kidding. But some people can't afford to use an 8x2 or 7x2 motor. Afford as in maintance, care, and runtime! You have to change brushes on these motors every 2-4 runs!
Hey, Ron, they are suppose to have practice the Friday before the race. I plan on goin up to get some last minute runtime with my 414M2. If they are done by then. So I'll be heading up there straight after work.
TarheelQ, that's a good deal you found there!
Gonzo, yeah, I hate Saddle packs!! Even though the 414M2 has the adaptors for running stick packs, my side-by-side cells won't fit because of how they were setup. This now means that I can't run my good batteries on my T3 or my TC3 with stock/graphite chassis!! Only if I direct Solder will it work on them. Don't fret though, I have my IRS chassis for my TC3 that they work on. :D
But anyways, I love the car. I've always wanted a 414 (before my Yokomo, XXX-S, or TC3) but couldn't find one for a descent price or find one period! Now they just came out with the 414 M2 (blue anodizing) and it just won the worlds. So they are now cheap and readily available. Awesome car and easy to build! No need for hopups except a spring kit!
Oh, on a side note before I head offline.... Wendell is run on Saturday and Not Sunday this weekend???? Anyone know what's up with that? This was according to Durham site. Dunno if it's wrong. Wow, I guess I have my own personal forum! Haha. Anyways, went to Wendell today. Had a small turnout. I guess everyone was at Sandhills or Stoney Point. Well I ran my 414. It was pretty smooth out there and alot quieter than my TC3. I liked the way it handled. I guess my first quess at a setup was pretty good. Could use alittle more fine tuning, but it worked better than my TC3 out there. Well we only got one run in. Actually I only got one run in and the track only got 3 runs in before they called off the race. Thunderstorms and Rain were threatening in like 20 minutes. And it was a good call! It DOWN POURED!!!! So the race has been post poned. Too bad too. They had trophies and gift certificates for prizes. The race will be RErun on August 18th. This time it'll be a Sunday.
Track temp was 115°. So hard compound tires were choice. Took off my B compound Orions and when to my A compound. Could have used my Takeoff CS27's but CS32's would have been the better choice at that temp. Maybe even CS36's. Saving my Takeoffs though for a trophy race in VA or the Roar Region 3 in Alabama.
Track layout needed work. Seemed kinda too tight in some sections. But they took out some pipes to make it "much" less technical. You went to the back straight. Then a nice tight section. Then you just played like you were doin a slalom. Or just do a straight shot. I'll suggest if I can lay it out next time. :D
The class was Modified Sedan. I ran a stock motor (P2K2). Which was plenty for this track. Anything more than a stock motor would have been insane. 19turn might have worked. Gearing was a tooth or two under factory suggestions. All motors ran hot!
I did lap the field once or two in the 4 minutes that we got to run, but I slowed down near the end of the race to pace behind some of the other cars for fun. I noticed alot of them spun out alot. I'd suggest a larger rear wing or tilt it upwards. I'll try and setup my TC3 out there next time and give my setup for that track. Should help them gain better control out there.
Of course I'll still be running my 414 in the races! The Modena body handled quite well. Though not a Touring body by Roar Standards, it's a Super Touring by Tamiyas. Seems to offer high speed rear down force but less front down force at speed. Would like to have run my Stratus body. But it still needs to be painted. I'll compare it next time.
Anyways, I'm off. I know it's late. But I just woke up from my nap. It was hot and humid out there! Must have worn me out! Take care and I hope to see some of yall out for Friday Practice at the Durham track!

Hey JIMMY ; what size pinion would have been good on a TC3 with stock spur. Had a 29 on and that was too much;motor ran hot like you said. Was running stock racer setup and car had way too much understeer for turn after long straight. Any ideas on that. Had CS-32's on for tires.GM-3 motor. Would have liked to have gotten there earlier but had things with work I had to take care of. Ran my super nitro with a little success.I've had it about 3 years so it's nice to run it in organized racing. Had only run it on a small oval until I started going to Chapel Hill. Have yet to finish a whole race there due to various problem,s. Would like to switch to all electric eventually,so if anyone's interested in a good used super let me know. I'm the guy with the 9 year old that won novice class at CH 1'st time out. Not too bad for our 1'st TC race. Anyway THANK,S JIMMY for all the help so far; and good luck at TCS race.Well gotta go.

Hey Whats up Hank and Joseph! How did those CS32's handle? Hmmm for that track, any motor would get hot on that day. Hope you had heat sinks galore on it! If not, invest in some! 29/72 is Chapel Hill Gearing. I'd suggest 26 or 27 pinion. With GM3, maybe 26.... possibly even a 25 since GM3's are high rpm motors.
I noticed some push on my Tamiya car at the end of the straight, but had very good steering in the "technical" part. But I also found that if I took the end of the Straight a certain way, I can make it with ease. I think it would come down to drivers style. You can't come into the turn close and tight and expect to whip around it. Not gonna happen. So best not to setup the whole car just for that one turn. Take the turn from the outside (6 or more feet) slowing down several feet from the turn and make a nice wide arch goin in the turn (off throttle) and out the turn (on throttle). If you don't and try taking it tight, you'll push out 10 feet past the turn. Also if you are running a diff up front, tap the brakes just before the turn. Still more push you can try Blue springs up front like what I use with Silvers Rear. Also stand the shocks up more for a technical track.
As for the rest of the setup for that track on a TC3, not sure yet. My Chapel Hill setup wasn't too good on that track. I'll have to see next time. I believe they will run Wendell again in 2 weeks. But it'll be the "oval" course. You can still bring your TC3 out there and race. Everyone else does. Bob one Mod class with his TC3 and a stock motor!
Well let me head out. Gotta work on my "real" car. Have to get it inspected this week. Hey Chris, being that the track is moving... I take it that it won't be High Speed R/C anymore? Just curious.... A racing team huh? hmmmmmmmmm

High Speed Inc. will no longer exist. We can form some kind of loose knit bunch of R/C addicts that used to run at the same place.(Chapel Hill) The only thing that will bind us is a sticker. I don't ever see anything like shirts or anything. Cost too much. I keep the web space up for news about how our drivers are doing. Just a thought. After the points are over, I won't be able to race as much anyway. Later R/C Dudes.

Hey Chris,, how about Ex-Chapell Hiller?? Can't really say ex high speeder seeing as we'll all still be doing that, just at another place. And, if High Speed R/C /Chapell Hill R/C is no longer, is the website going to continue, or will it go too??
Also, Steve wants me to tell you that there are some points listed for him in novice that for that week should be listed in stock electric. That week he was listed in novice but ran the stock b main, they just didn't setup the mains with him listed in the b-main. Chris Pinto was driving for him as he had to leave early. Chris P won that race which caused him to go and buy his own FT TC3.
Also, on another note,,,, I won the Mod Electric A-main last race ,, got my picture taken,,, but didn't get a gift thingy. Mostly becase of after the picture was taken,, I ran off to turn marshall the nextrace. Forgot all about it until the other day when I went looking for it and ,,,,, couldn't find it. Ron, That was when I broke during qualifying and ended up in the B-main. I won that main and lapped Chris 1 or 2 times. But he loved the way the TC3 handled better better than his RS4. Actually sometimes when I look at the points, I don't see Steve Davis's name at all! I dunno. I think its the jumbled up like where you can't read the points or anything.
Anyways, I saw the picture of the paved track.... that was quick! It rained up there? Hmmm I don't recall it raining down here. Oh well..... Kinda like how Wendell rained out, but no rain was down here.
Hey, I got my Tamiya confirmation letter for the TCS race! Sweet! Times a ticking! Now I just have to decide full diffs or oneways? I'm thinking with a 10turn mod... tight course.... Hey Jimmy, seeing as he wants it,, can I drop it a few times?? LOL
No man that bugger works great. I've been doing a few motors on it but using my race batteries instead of a car battery. I got 9 full runs out of a 2000 pack, and when I discharged it the rest of the way, it still went 290 seconds at 20 amps before it kicked off. I also hooked it up to the car battery, and the readings were pretty close. So,,, it's a lot easier than lugging around a 12 volt car battery in the house,,, or bringing the laptop out side,,,,

Well got my new Quantum Competition ESC in today! Yipee!! If yall don't aready know, I fried my GM V12xc. Loved that speedo, but I didn't feel like waiting for it to get fixed. So I went and got another great speedo. Although the Quantum is not as programable as my GM, it's smaller than it. Too bad it's not as small as my Quantum Sport though! :D Right now the Sport is in my TC3... but it might go back into the micro. Anyways, took the bearing out of my 414. It had a snot load of packing grease!! All that friction! Now my car will be even smoother and quicker with all that grease out. Well I too hope the weather holds up for tomorrow. Speaking of which, I'd better start prepping up for it! L8Rz

Yeah, I was gonna head up today. But it was raining after I got off work. This give me more time to get my stuff ready for the TCS this Sunday. I still have motors to build for the race. The guy said it's a tight smallish parking lot track. So I'm thinking if not my 10turn, then my 19turn will do the trick. I dunno, we'll see. I'll rebuild them both just incase. Anyways, I'll try and make it out tomorrow if it's not raining. If it is, have fun racing Sunday! I'll catch yall next race!

Well, in between the rain drops I took my car out again,,,, same story, different battery. Went like a bat-outta-hell for 3.5 minutes,,,, then the battery started dieing. Now, I just cycled all my packs, and the one I used was a 368 at 20 amp discharge,,, 1.13's or so,, a pretty good 2000 pack no?? So,,, is it the new MVP overgeared, or the ESC going, wrong motor for me?? WHAT???? Maybe its time to buy a few batteries,,, anyone wanna buy a Jugg??

Try the batteries in another car. Try the motor in another car... try try try.... Anywho, just found out that there are 101 people signed up as of Monday for the TCS race. Gonna be fun! They also have practice on Saturday. So I'll at least get some time with my car there! Well let me go do those motors.

So... did anyone go to the practice session? How's the track looking? What kind of tires will a TC3 need for that black-top? Not like it's gonna matter to me all I have are slicks. Maybe for once I won't have to run out and buy something the day before the race.
I want to be perfectly clear... Are we racing in Durham this Sunday?

Yes, the race is in Durham this Sunday. I was at the track yesterday and everything is coming together. A couple people tried to get some laps in but the track was just too wet. One receiver was lost to the water but he knew what he was getting in to. See ya at the track.

The race will be in Durham on Sunday. Practice starts at 10 am. The asphault has not had time to cure and with all the rain we have had may still be quite tacky. No idea if they were going to seal it or not, doubt they have had time to. Withall the rain we have had, I'm not complaining my well was acting supesious. According to the weather man Sunday will be mid 90's and drinks are expensive at the concession stand.

Well I was at the track today. I Love it! Drove my 414. First turn I ran into a "soft" wall that was hangin out! hahaha.. yeah yeah... Anyways, I ran there with my 8x2 and some batteries I charged up Wednesday night. Did pretty good! No problem Billy with low turn motors! You just need good brakes and/or an excellent setup. I was trying to quickly tune my 414. But I have a slight problem with rear traction on exit. So I have some research to do to correct it. Once that's solved, the car will be on rails! Of course today I was using a Front diff. Next time I'd like to try dual oneways. Might be what I'm looking for. I tried center oneway with front diff. Seems to be alittle better. But we'll see. I'll also test out my TC3 next week and get it setup.
Anyways, I like the track. Traction is very good. Tire wear is excellent! Not that it's less, but it didn't tear up my tires. It was pretty even. Even seemed to "clean" them. Very little rocks or debris. I did have a couple glitches though. But nothing major. Hmmm track layout is very nice. I like it alot and it'll provide some good racing!
Well let me head out. Gotta get up early and head out to Maryland in the morn. Have fun this Sunday! I hope I do! I'll take some pictures as well. L8Rz

Hey guys,
Hate that I missed practice but I will definitely be there Sunday. My .4 tamiya pinions just came in $11 for each 2 pack and they are steel!! Yall know that the tires that worked Fri night probally wont on Sun due to the 96 deg temps on Sun dont you?:D At least we will have some shade. Anyone have any short shocks extra? I have to get the front of the rally weapon down closer to the pavement because I am going to try to run it in stock.

Only complaint I have with the 414 is that the rear dif get grit in it very easily. No more running in the parking lot. Track only.

Tom,i'm suprised at you buddy :D Just use the fuel tubing trick.Measure how much you want to lower the car and cut that length of tubing and slide it on the shock shaft and then reassemble....its that simple. And ALOT cheaper ;) Should work nice for you.See ya sunday!

So how did it go today? I got out there at about 10:30 and ran a few tests with the car and truck, but I just couldn't stand the heat. The covered pits were nice and shady, but the tin roof made it feel like we were in an oven. WHEW!
I was in a really bad car crash on Tuesday and my neck and back are still very sore, so I wasn't physically up to spending all day on my feet. I also was a little hung-over from a graduation party last night and felt bad from that too. So I called it a day before the races even started and went home and slept, wishing the whole time that I was there.
I liked the track enough, but boy it gets tight in some of the turns. It looked like a couple of them weren't even two or three cars wide. I noticed some glitching issues too. I warned y'all that might happen so close to Hwy 70. However, I do like the track.
There seems to be some standing water issues that need to be addressed RIGHT AWAY. Not on the track surface but right next to it. Be careful because that water will DESTROY y'alls brand new track very quickly. It will seep between the new tar and the concrete and ruin the bond between them and the tar will crack and break off in a matter of days.
Again I'm sorry I couldn't stay to race today and I hope everyone stayed in one piece. If I'm feeling better by next week I'll come out to test some before nitro day next Sunday and get ready for the last points race of the season the week after.
Later doooooooods,
G-

So how did Durham go? Maryland TCS sucked hard for me! I didn't finish not one race! Receiver trouble. Why did it have to happen now! I show up Saturday. It's a regular parking lot track with fire hose and plow disks. Anyways, I didn't get any practice Saturday. It started to rain before I could get my car out. Then I had to find a hotel/motel room. I forgot how expensive rooms are up north! $80 a night! I settled for a cheapo Motel 6 for around $60. Tons of stores up there. Ton's of foreigners too! Typical of the Yankee territory.
Anyways, got my Papa John pizza, sat in my room and tore the car down. Tossed back in my dual oneways. Readjusted my rear camber and camber links. Changed rear shock oil. Took all the sway bars off. Tossed in my 19t for mod class (GT1). And glued my Tamiya tires. Then passed out after 2am.
Got up around 6:30am and headed to the track. Setup my pit table and went out for a practice run. My problems were solved with my rear end coming around on exit. Seemed to be a pretty good setup for that track as well. Just some quick adjustments to driving style and I was getting hooked in. Had a few radio "glitches", but thought nothing of it. Tossed in another battery pack and zoom. Went out again, this time with a rear sway bar. Did this to give me a tad more steering. Seemed to work too. Then my ESC shut down due to motor overheating.
Went to pits and recut my comm and geared down a tooth. (First run motor was just warm. Second run was super hot!) Then I over tightend the pinion down and stripped the set screw! Now it's stuck in there! So I was stuck with that pinion on that motor for the rest of the day!
Go out for my first heat. Set the car down on the track.... and nothing! Car was dead! DNF......... Went to pits. ESC lights were on. Thought I either fried my "new" ESC or had bad crystals. So I put in my old trusty Tekin G-10 ESC and swapped out crystals. Went out for my second and final qualifying run. Car ran for a bit then cut off! DNF...... Went to pits. Wiggled around my wires and car would cut on and off. Took apart Rx and cleaned out the tiny rocks. Now the car worked. Took it out for practice and it ran with some glitches. Went to pits again and car died. Took Rx out of casing and taped it up to my antenna. Went out for my Bmain run and it ran good for a bit with glitches but then died. There goes my day and a waste for my points run for Mod at Durham!!!
Well the only thing I got out of this was a free T-Shirt and the problem to all my glitching at Chapel Hill and Durham. Gotta replace the damn Receiver! At least it wasn't my new ESC. Well there goes my worst race ever! :( hehe... oh well, there's a chance to redeem myself at Virgina Beach Saturday for the Trophy Race.
Now about the race. It was run rather well. Something that Durham needs to do if they haven't already. The TCS race was run on a tight schedule. Only 2 minutes between heats or they started without you! You needed to be at tech during the race before yours to be teched and receive your transponder. Once the other race was over you tossed your car on the track. Did one lap to count your car/transponder. Then did IFMAR starts. Once the first round of qualifying went by, the second round immediately started! After that round was over, they took a 15-20 minute break to get the mains posted with a short practice. Then off to the mains.
After racing was over, "Everybody" torn down the track. Then prizes and awards were given out. Race was run rather well with hardly any (if any) radio conflicts (radios in pits). Radios weren't even impounded! Quite good huh! There were about 15 heats. Races started at around 10:30-11am. Ended around 5pm. Not bad for 2 qualifying rounds and the mains!
Anyways, would have been an excellent day if it had not been for my Radio problems. It was hot as well too! Perhaps next year though... I'll be heading back! Well I'm off to bed now. I'm pooped! I'll post a few pics from the race tomorrow (Monday). Take it easy! L8R

Well, the wet spots (more like damp spots) on the spectator end of the track definatly messed with me,, it wasn't as bad as me driving overthose damn plow disks. And don't forget Billy, we ran that lap after the race was over,,, 1 more lap and I woulda won. dam disks,,,,,
Anbyhow, Steve says now I gotta pay big bucks for his motor if I want it,,, and the one he's keeping is better than the one I used!!! Like about 10 power points higher!!!
AS for tires out there Jimmy, I used brand new belted X-patterns,, seemed to be hooked up everywhere,,,except in the water,,,, Ok, not really water,,, just damp,,,,
The Street Weapon though,,,, that buggers another story,, It seems that I coulda used old banana peels on it for tires and it woulda been dailed!!! Everywhere I put it, it stuck,, inside, outside, full speed then cut the power and the wheel, it stuck. Hard to belive something that old can still hang,,,,, not to mention i placed 2nd with the SAME 13 dble thats been in it since the begining of the season,,, hasn't been turned but one time,, running the same gears as it did in C.H., and Billy,,, it's a Speed Gems 2,,, sorry, had to say it,,:D :D
Anthow, sorry about the glitches,,, now do you want one of the crystalless receivers like mine?? You know how I drive,,, and it still works!!! LOLOL

Jimmy,
Sounds like you had the same type of day I did. I had my car hooked and super fast, running with the nitro guys, but as the day heated up my speed control started shutting down after 2-3 minutes. So I went to plan B and swapped esc's and to a stock motor. Then I started having glitches. Well one of my caps was missing on the motor. So I switched to a different motor. After 1min 30 secs in the heat my battery dumped, didn't get a good charge due to the heat. So I charged my battery for the main in a cooler full of ice, should be good to go right? Wrong, my transmitter fell on its back and seemed ok so I went out to the main ready to go and my throttle didn't work. Had steering but no throttle responce at all. So after checking everything seems I broke my transmitter and have to send it off to get repaired!!
Tell me again, why do we love this hobby!!?
Oh well, I will probally skip the last club race and get a new ESC, transmitter, batteries, and stock motor.
Had a great time anyway, to paraphrase the fishermen, A bad day racing is better than the best day working!
See yall soon,
Tom:D

Hey guys! Good to hear you liked the Durham track. I think it's just awesome. Hopefully my setup will work out there as well with a few tweaks due to the smoothness of the track.
Hey Ron, that new Quantum Comp that I just got... well not that it's a waste, but I think my GM V12 did not fry... it might have been just my receiver!!!! So this may leave me with 2 high end ESC's! One for my TC3 and one for my 414! Speaking of TC3's... Barry Baker won the Roar Nats with this TC3!!! He's been fast all year with that car!!
Sorry to hear about your troubles Tom. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be my Transmitter as well! Brad, I'll be waiting for my ice cream in 2 weeks!! Good to hear that Rod (thats him right) loves my car. What changes were made to it? If any? The oil in it is I believe either 30wt all around or 40wt front/30wt rear. I can't remember... but one of my cars has one of those combo's. Just curious if my Chapel Hill setup worked out there.
Billy, I'll be heading to Virginia Beach bright and early Saturday morning... like 6am early! I take a different route there. Takes me like 3 hours. For you it might be the same. Not sure on what road you'd take... Which ever is quickest way to get onto US or Route 58 East in Virginia. Anyways, no website for them. They are a Hobbytown USA store. Parking lot track. 2 heats and then the mains. Trophies might be tiny. I dunno. Turnouts are generally good. For stock class you can use either a GM3 or P2K2. Mod class depends on track setup... usually a 19t beleive it or not. (Speaking of which, I still have that pinion stuck on mine on my 414.)
Anywho.... here are a few boring pics from the TCS race. The actual ones are alot larger and more detailed. But this forum only allows up to a certain size... Enjoy!

Oh yeah, the first 3 F-1 cars on the top pic are the F201 cars! Racing with them was all driving skills. Best racing was with the GT2(stock) class. First and second were battle it out with them bumper to bumper at times! A slight bobble and 2nd went down several lengths. Last lap he turned on the heat to ride right up to 1st's bumper again... only to slip and loose by a couple car lengths. Good racing. GT1 1st place led by a lap on 2nd. Hmmmmmmm could have been me? hehehe... wishful thinking.... :p Enjoy.. Mini's Amain start...

Jimmy Mac, tough luck but you had the guts to go up and try so way to go and we will see you later. Know how you feel with new cars they run great until you get them in a race and like they sense something and just crap out.
Gonzo, man sorry you feel so bad, but take care of your back and neck that stuff can be real serious if you don't take care of yourself. Missed you Sunday.
Got to brag on my son, even if he runs in Novice for the first time since we finished that XXX-S he ran the complete time trial ,with only one wreck and qualified for the A main. In the A main he completed more laps had a faster average speed and finished the race with no breakage, first time. All he could talk about all the way home was how much fun he had and how he was ready for practice on Thursday.
Thanks guys for all of your help and patience with us this first year. Tom, Gonzo, Barry, Brad and Don thanks.

Billy, they have tons of stuff in Virginia Beach. The main "good" hobby shop has "tons" of stuff. Maybe a tad on the expensive side when buying certain items like car kits. It's Debbies RC. It's about ohhhh 20 minutes from Hobbytown USA. But they have all the motors and batteries and everything you'll ever need there. Even the batteries I run. Plus that's where I bought my Reedy Ti 8x2. Of course I bought the arm for it else where...... :D Oh yeah uhhh I think racing starts at noon there. I usually "try" to get there around 10am for some practice. If you have a personal transponder then great. If not, then plan on spending an extra $5 per person for a transponder rental fee. As far as novice.. hmmmm I honestly can't remember! I mean they did before I thought. I think it'll depend on if any show up. But I'm sure they will.... I'll ask them on Trinity Board to make sure. There are some fast drivers out there! I have yet to actually win a 1/10 sedan race there! Actually as in one guy forfeit his win because he cut the corner to take the win at the last corner of the track. It was that close between us!
Mini Class at the TCS was fun. Surprisingly though, those cars were dialed! I mean they were on rails! It's a very competitive class.. and it's a fun class as well. I think next time though, I'll race GT1 (mod) and F-1. As for the pictures, I'll do that later tonight. I don't really have any good ones. Just the main 3 that you see... and a few other ones. It was a very hot day and I was like a zombie! So picture taking wasn't on the top of my list. Are you sure you want those pictures? They are about 500k each! 1600x1200.
Anyways, the Mole is coming on... gotta go... be back L8R

Well, I gotta work Sat. but Billy, Tiff needs to run X-ray out there in Va beach. So far, that truck has won every race it's been entered in. Of course, that's the truck class,, but they did have a novice class last time we went there Jimmy. Pretty much like Chapel Hills,, bring it, they'll run it!!!
Billy, if you do go there PLEASE remember to go NO FASTER than 60 on Hwy 58. Those Va State Troopers park on that road more than they do on Interstate 95!!! I've gotten a ticket on that road, along with my brother, and brother-in-law. Ask Jimmy, he's seen 'em,,,,
Also Billy, like Jimmy has said before,,, the mod class there,,,, more is better. As in, a 19 turn spec type motor will go faster than anything with less winds on it. TIGHT track. More torque than revs are needed on that track.
Anyhow,, had a blast at the new track,,,, and it's no wonder why my knee got so hot when they were taking the group picture,,,, dam track temp was over 140*!!!

Debbies open? Hmmmm I dunno, but I'm sure when you get there, they'll be open. They DO have a website as well. Though they have tons tons more stuff than their uhhh "cheap" website has to offer. Getting there from Hobbytown USA is easy. Hobbytown is on Independence Blvd. If you take Independence to Virginia Ave... go down a few miles to uhhhh Great Neck somthing, it's just off that. Blah blah blah... Debbies website has the Address. Could find it in RC Car directory. They even advert in some of the RC mags. As far as batteries go, I've done it before. They'll be nice and ready for the mains!
Well let me go work on my 414 and find a way somehow to get that motor out of there! Oh yeah, did I mention, I tried my other Receiver and everything works! I knew I should have brought my TC3 with me!!! Oh well, looks like I'll only be running one car for stock and mod..... 414 baby!!!!

Anyone practicing tomorrow? I might show up. Depends if I get out of work on time. If I did show up, it won't be til 7. So I'll get a very short practice time.... But it'll be well needed to get my 414 up and running again. Anyways... L8R

I feel okay... I guess. Still pretty stiff after being off work for a week now. Ya' know, all I want to do is feel better so I can race again. **** work. Yea I feel bad that I can't goto work, but not nearly as bad as having to leave the race early last week. I'm going to see an Orthopedic doctor on Monday and hopefully get an MRI so we can "see" what the problem might be. I hope the "time heals all wounds" is true. I'm also afraid that I might have to get lawyers involved in this whole mess. It doesn't seem the least bit fair that some pregnant moo-mother can take 8 weeks of 1/2 pay time off to spit out a crotch trophy that is a lifestyle choice and I get injured doing my job and they want to cut me loose. Wish me luck. All I want to do is be treated fairly.
I hope to see ya'll soon.

Sorry I didn't get to show up today Billy. Today is the 1st of the month and we have.... .INVENTORY!!! Sucks! Underman'd and they want this $#!+ done! Oh well took my time doin it. But I'm gonna get my arse off intime tomorrow to make sure my stuff is working for Saturday. Might beable to do some tuning too while I'm there. Hmmm as for power, they have some if you can get it from someone (usually have to bum an empty spot off of someones power strip.) I just use my car battery. Gonna need some shade though!!! Got any rubber tires? I don't know if you can run foams out there. Everyone there runs Takeoffs. In this hot weather, CS32s or CS37s will be the ticket. I might try my CS27s. But I might have to go back to my Orion A compound. Unless if Debbies has any CS32s in stock. I dunno we'll see. More info tomorrow... L8Rz.... on yeah, got the motor out of my car... now just need to get the pinion off my 19t... gonna need that for Saturday!!

jimmy-no problem with the shade.got an e-z-up big enough for the both of us to pit under.don't have any rubber tires.was planning on getting some new foams at debbies, but think ill get the tires you suggested if they have any in stock.are you using the same setup as chapel hill there?when you were running the tc3 that is.what about a oneway?good or bad for that track.also going to pick up some sway bars.never tried them before.let me know if you need anything from debbies and ill pick it up for you.well, back to rebuilding diffs and all that good stuff:D talk to ya later......................billy

Hey, Debbies opens up at 9am... so best go there first. I might go there, but naawwww. Bring your foams just incase. If it rains, they'll race indoors on the carpet track(if it's still there). Hmmmmm makes me wonder now.... Anyways pick me up a set of prebuilt/glued Takeoffs CS32. They come in a pack of 4 and cost about $32. Setups, I used Chapel Hills with a oneway in stock and diff for mod. But a oneway might work if you use a 19t. You might can stand up the shocks alittle more. Hmmm just depends what they do to the track. It's different every weekend! (usually). I still have that oneway for you. Good luck on the swaybars! If they have them that is! hehe. Got my celphone number? Hmmm well I have yours.. Does yours reach VA on your network?
Hmmm springs, I use Blue Front, Silver Rear. But the stock Gold/Silver works just as good. Might want to pick up a pair of Blue and Red springs. If you want for yourself. I'm gonna bring mine. Just too bad I don't have an extra Receiver to drive it or let you drive it. Well talk to you tomorrow. Gotta get that pinion off my 19t still!! Bring a low turn motor just in case, or I might have one that you can use. Gonna bring my 8x2 Reedy Ti, 8x2arm from Reedy Ti, 10x1 CoreTouring, Phantom 19t, GM3, and Fantom P2K2.
Well let me goooooooo Gotta get up early!!!

had an awsome time yesterday.:D jimmy had that track tuned in with his 414. man that car was on rails.heck his car won a trophy before we even started racing.:)(best engineered car)
i had my share of bad luck.bough a brand new ionic charger for debbies, got out to the track and pluged it up to the battery.would not work. was running out of time to practice so i bought a super brain from hobby town.ran back to charge a battery and it would false peak every battery i tried to charge in 20 min....couldn't figure it out.so just started charging my batteries with my trusty dynamite vision peak plus charger.with jimmy helping me out with his charger i made every race but one:) had a very interesting stock b-main..had first place by over half a lap and started to smell someone's engine burning.sure enough it was mine.made it 4 more laps with smoke spewing from the rear of the car.managed to still some how get third:) finished 4th in the mod a-main.tif finished 3rd in the stock d-main.jimmy took 1st in stock a-main and 1st in mod b-main.was alot of fun and for the rest of the day i had pepole coming up to me saying they say my car smoking down the track,or was that a nitro car or an electric car.:) well gotta go back to yard work..talk to ya'll later................billy

Well, I'm interested in hearing how everything went today. Hopefully buy next month I will be able to come and race. Kilruf, Can you help me set up my 414?
JimmyMac
08-04-2002, 08:42 PM
Interceptor, not gonna make it up next Sunday for the final Points Race/Banquet? I know you're not in the points, but it'll be good practice with the 414! Today was just Nitro class. I guess everyone is till out there or left already. Would also like to know how that ran.
What do you need to know about the 414? I ran mine with basic stock setup except these changes.....
-1° Camber Front
-2° Camber Rear
0.5-1° Toe out
4mm (2x2mm) spacer(s) under rear camber links on bulkhead
5mm F/R ride height
5 Droop Front (TC3 guage)
4 Droop Rear
Yellow F/R springs
Yellow F/R swaybars
700wt Front
600wt Rear
Takeoff CS32 tires
This setup gets me around the track good enough. But I would like a tad more steering entering the turns. Dual oneways requires very special attention on how you take a turn/corner. You have to set it up properly or you'll push on through it or spin out. I take mine from the outside and cut right in. So you have to swing wide to take the turn. Luckily my car had very ballanced braking. So I was able to get on full brakes under certain situations without my car spinning out. Anyways, this was my parking lot setup for Virginia Beach. Of course most important, this was done with a Stratus 2.0 body with a FULL wing. Any other body and/or wing and this setup may not work. Either way, you must have a full wing or your car will spin out toooo much. My car tends to push some because of my rear wing.
Anyways, I have to reload my old Photoshop to resize and edit some pictures. I have Billy's TC3 with smoke coming out of it. But the smoke is hard to see. Will post that up later on. I guess I'll go for now. Oh yeah, I think Ron and I will show up for Thursday Practice around 4pm I guess. I would like to have done it on Friday, but knuckle head has to work Friday but has Thursday off. So maybe I'll see some of yall out there! L8Rz

Kilruf- sorry, I thought this weekend was the last race. I just might try to come up sunday. I need a new motor, I'm thinking of the Core stock motor. I love the GM3, but I am scared to death of smoking another one. Thanks for the set up info. You think my Tamiya type As with the soft insert will work? I will only run in stock if I come. thanks.
JimmyMac
08-04-2002, 11:12 PM
I think I'm gonna run my P2K2 for stock class. But I don't know if I'll run my TC3 or 414 in stock. Definately 414 for mod. As for your Tamiya Type A's... nope, not gonna work. Didn't work up in Virginia Beach in this hot weather. It ain't gonna work down here. Once I tossed on the Takeoff CS32's.... it was a major difference! Tire temp ratings are very important. Type A's won't be good til October or November. Or on a cool, cloudy day. And hearing how hot the track temp was last weekend... 140°... Takeoff CS37s would have been the best bet. Now if you had Orion Type A's or D's... that would work. D's being your best bet. I'd go with Takeoffs since you can get a set of 4 prebuild (glued and mounted) for $35. Hmmmm.
Anyhow, come on down! You'll have fun! OR you can wait til the points racing is over (This Sunday) and wait for the regular races (August 18th) to start so that you can run 3 heats and a main. This points race will only be 1 heat and a main. This way you can save up and get your stuff ready. Plus get some tires. This way I can give you a better setup for the track. Do you have the optional spring kit for the 414? As smooth as this track is, I might go with Blue springs all around. Hmmmmmmm I'll let you know Thursday night.......

interceptor-i ran foams last weekend..treadz 40's on the back and 42's on the front.they worked well, even for as hot the track was.don't know what the track is going to be like once the track seals.chances are it will get slick.

Hey everybody. Yeah I have an IONIC too; works great on ac power, but will only charge at 0.5 amps on dc. Had it hooked up to a semi battery too. Might try something with some race car batteries that are rated at 14 VOLTS. I'll let you know how that turns out;although could be expensive, those batteries ain't cheap.
Went to the track Sunday; had a small turn out though. Don just called it a practice and let us run for a while. Took my supernitro car out; ran good 1'st practice, but went out later and the car would just snap around as soon as I lifted and turned the wheel a little. Took all the steering out but still was very hard to drive. Joseph ran pretty good with his MT truck, but the wall finally got him two times. Fixed it after first crash, but after second one I told him he was done. Ran our TC-3's some; we both were doing ok after a few laps with them. Had the track by ourselve's one time and had a race; I gave him half the front stretch a couple times and could chase him down and get by. He kept telling me to wait up, so the last time I did he ran right into my right rear and tore it completely off. Even broke shock tower. :(
Was looking for rear tire and it was laying up under front window of car. Oh well. that ended the day for my electric car. He felt worse than I did though, He came over and handed his radio to me; I told him not to worry we were having fun.
Gonna go all electric now though. Bought a PRO-3 here on RCCA; has a graphite chassis. al. motor plate. and a few other goodie,s. Might go modified with it after I run it some and build up my battery collection. Won,t make it this Sunday, got a ball tournament for my daughter to go to. Hope to make it to the first all electric race. Well enough babbling. Hey congrat's to Jimmy; Billy; and Tif. Great run up in Va. Ya'll take it easy now. Later.......

Foam this, foam that, I'm getting sick of foams again!! :p Anyhow I ran my 414 and P2K2 with 120/38. I'd try that. If it gets too hot then back down to 36. I did 120/35 with my GM3. But it was slow. I think I was off like 10 or so seconds at the end of my race than with my P2K2. I ruined my 37 pinion. That's the one that got stuck on my 19t. I had to dremel it off! Anyways, the mole is coming on soon. So gotta go! Talk to you more Ron about Thursday practice!

Well, ROAR did finally go wishy-washy on the rubber/foam thing so you can use either on your car. The point is though, use what works for you. Don't let people TELLyou what to use. You need to try different things out for yourself to see what works or not for you.
As for me,,, I was running HPI X-pattern tires on my TC3 last race,, Billy was using foams. Yes he won, but mostly because I kept running over those dam plow disks. Infact, I was leading until my first incident then fell back futher due to the same turn, BUT, I was gaining on him at the end and if there had been enough time for one more lap, I woulda caught him again and passed him for the win. Only thing that really keeps me from winning more is me.:(
Anyhow, Next race if you want to try them out, let me know Gonzo, that way, you'll know how they work for you instead of buying them without knowing.

Practice was great. My TC3 has a very very very very good setup. Not gonna change it at all. So stock class is not a problem. Now for my 414, still needs work. Not hooking up like my TC3, but then again we are talking about Mod where it'll push more. If I ran my 414 in stock, I'm sure it'll be the other way around. Hmmmmm, anyways it was fun goofying off with everyone at the track today. Can't wait til Sunday! Oh yeah, I now have a 1/12 scale car.
