azroin,

***Hanger 9 ExtraEasy *** That's a nice airplane, big too. Gas? YUP! The plane is gentle and can tolerate a newcomer to this hobby. Responsive and can do lot's of cool stuff in the hands of an expert:)

***I have 12 acres to fly it in...mostly open but some trees *** 12 acres? Man, your lucky. The price is right:)

***but a local flying club have invited me to learn with them..I have yet to buy the plane or meet with the flying club. *** Join a club or just ask around. Have someone to help you, by the looks of this airplane you wanna have a good, well equip information for your first flight. Again this airplane is not your ordinary plane. A trainer yes! mistakes can be best avoided if you have someone to coach beside you, and boost your confidence, as well.

I say you ask around, get into Fligthlines.com (I think, that's what it's called. They fly mostly glow and the forum is about glow airplanes)

Get an inst. get the plane, remember these word of advice. DO NOT RUSH... Take your TIME ... you'll be good to go. (If I were you get the plane, that's a good trainer)

100% in total agreement with 2NG if you have never flown ...get an instructor..... that would be the smart thing

glow / gas are alot faster than electrics ( means you have alot less time to react) means you got to be smarter

and when you get up for the first time.....grab alot of alttitude
(about 100 feet) Altitude = Options ( gives you time to react to a bad manuever and correct the plane's attitude)

remember fly smart....

in basic flight training and ACM (military) the first thing all pilot candidates are taught is.....

"There are two kinds of pilots....
1) Those who fly smart
2) Those who get killed "

you might not get killed flying r/c models... but you can still kill your plane ( this is already an expensive hobby even when you don't crash)

more importantly ...don't give up ..you will crash from time to time. for me the repairs are half the fun of the hobby (trying to outsmart the garbage man lol)

and there is no harm in getting a transmitter with the instructor box hook up (means he can take control of the plane if your in a bad spot)

AWBelgy has himself destroyed many a gas plane as a young lad
including my beautiful scale model p-51 that took me 6 months to build and about 200.00 spent ( in 1974) about 500 in todays dollars if not more
on its first flight elevator control horn came loose and she plummeted about 100 feet nose first, i let this ruin the hobby for me seeing nothing but splinters . it was my fault ..didn't wait for glue to dry and didn't do preflight check i was flying dumb...not smart

i was 16 at that time......and hadn't flown models again for 24 yrs
i started up with electrics again about 5 months ago and i love em (don't even wanna play with gas ...still suffering from that 51)

azroin,

My turn to agree with AirWarriorbelgy. Now that's coming from a pro:) himself. I haven't been flying that long, but all that these guys tell me, are 100% sure will get you in the right direction, that's Towards the right wind.

Good luck. I know, somehow, I know, that your going to be a good flyer. :D ... Welcome to the hobby:)
