I have a Huntsman 31 offshore racer with an all wood hull. I cant get the skins at the very front to stay glued to the frames. Ne one got ne idea how to do this? Also im running an electric motor with nicads. What is the max/min number i can use bearing in mind that it is a stock 540 motor. Also what type of speed controller is best, mechanical or electric?

Cheers

Have you tried thick CA glue? CA glue is neat in that it likes water, and if the area is slightly damp, this trick might fix it. Also, What type finish do you have on the planks, as this might cure the problem as well.

As for the batteries-what size prop is on the boat and are you looking for runtime or all-out speed from the motor?

CA= superglue? If it is i tried that and it pinged off again. The skins are 3 ply and about 3 mm thick. The prop has two blades and the pitch is quite steep.

Im looking for the boat to have quite a high top speed with a reasonable run time. Can u recommend a suitable motor + battery combo?

If superglue didn't work, a slow-set epoxy (one-hour or more) might be the next thing to try, or one of the waterproof glues used on full-sized sailboats. West Systems epoxy is claimed by many to be the best for boats of all sizes, but I've also had good luck with Bob Smith's line of epoxies as well.

Without seeing your boat/prop setup and that you've mentioned a 540 motor, Midwest sells a mech. speed control/wiring setup that works with a sealed-can 540 motor and two six-cell 7.2 volt battery packs. This unit uses a regular servo to control the motor and give a small scale boat tons of runtime.

Success i found something that will stick da skins at the bow. I use something that is kinda like liquid nails glue but acts as a filler as well. Its not waterproof but the hull will be sealed with yatch varnish so it doesnt matter. I figure that twin 2000 milliamp packs will be big enough. I made up a custom wiring harness that enables me to charge each pack seperatly without taking them out of the hull. I did this via 2 double pole double throw switches and charging jacks! (it was a nightmare to solder!) I just gotta bend da frigging transom to fit now!

Ne 1 else have a kit like this and find that most of the parts dont fit?

Thanks for the help people.
